Celebrities / TTT - "Nothing Happened Between Bisola And I Under The Covers" (Video) by ceometromedia: 7:54pm On Mar 21, 2017
Big Brother Evictee, Thin Tall Tony has said he had a conversation with his wife before going into the #BBNaija house.

TTT as he is popularly called said this on Tuesday in an interview with Beat FM.

Responding to a question on whether he had such discussion with his wife, TTT said, “Yes, before I went into the house, myself and my wife, we did speak. We are very private people so we like to keep our private lives private, she’s my backbone and I can’t make any decision without her asking or directing me. So, she made it clear before I went into the House that you keep my family out of it. I want the world to know you for who you are, your talent, which is what I have been hustling with.”

As he answered, Maria Okan, one of the On-Air-Personalities interjected him, saying, “Save your breath… Hold on… So how do we know that you are not lying? Where is the proof? So because of the N25 million you and your wife decided that you’ll just rubbish your whole marriage, so that you can go and collect money inside the house? There’s the difference between lying and keeping it private?”

Responding to a question from Osi Suave on what happened between him and Bisola under the covers, TTT, said, “Nothing actually went down.”

Politics / We Have 7.8m Permanent Voter Cards Unclaim-inec by ceometromedia: 10:00pm On Mar 16, 2017
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has disclosed that 7.8 million Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) produced prior to the 2015 general elections were still uncollected.

The Chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who disclosed the number of uncollected PVCs on Thursday at a meeting with Civil Society Organisations in Abuja, explained that of the uncollected PVCs, Lagos had the highest with 1.4 million, followed by Oyo with 700,000 and Edo, 540,000.

Yakubu stated that Ogun State has the least of uncollected PVCs while Bauchi and Zamfara have the highest rate in collection.

According to him, there are some we have not printed from the last general elections; so, we are meeting some stakeholders next week in this regard to settle it.

“The commission is still reiterating its advice that collection of PVCs by proxy is not allowed. So we are working out ways to ensure that people collect their PVCs before the next elections and those who are of age now can also come for their registration from April.”

He noted that some of the measures the commission was weighing were to either to collaborate with the National Lottery Commission to attach an incentive to the collection of the PVCs.

Yakubu said that one million cards were distributed after the 2015 elections and was looking at better ways to make the distribution more effective.

He disclosed that during the nationwide registration slated for April, people who wished to transfer their voting points to other states or places could do so.

Ahead of the Anambra State governorship He, however, said that the commission would conduct a continuous voter registration in Anambra to enable new voters to participate in the November governorship poll in the state.

The chairman said that 2019 will be a challenging year for the commission because there would be many elections, ranging from presidential to governorship, which would involve 29 seats.

He added that there would be 109 senatorial constituencies’ elections, 360 federal consistencies and 991 state assembly polls.

Yakubu said that INEC would also conduct the FCT Area Council elections for 68 positions and end the year with the Kogi and Bayelsa elections involving 1, 560 constituencies.

He, therefore, explained that fixing of the election dates ahead was to help the commission to plan and to also give the nation a sense of certainty in elections dates.

“People need to know because it allows us to plan; it is consistent with the Constitution and the Electoral Act. It is consistent with what we should do based on common sense and the enormous planning for the elections.”

Earlier, Convener of the meeting, Clement Nwankwo, commended INEC for the early release of the 2019 elections dates, adding that it would make for proper planning, saying, the step would help to breed a “no excuse political atmosphere’’ for free and transparent election in the country.

Politics / Ambode To Remove Yellow Buses (danfo) From Lagos Roads by ceometromedia: 7:36pm On Feb 06, 2017
Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday insisted plans are afoot to remove yellow buses popularly known as Danfo from Lagos roads for a more efficient, well-structured and world class mass transportation system that would facilitate ease of movement within the city.

The Governor also said that his administration would soon roll out a comprehensive environmental sanitation policy that would make the city to be clean without much burden on the people in terms of taxes.

Speaking at the 14th Annual Lecture of the Centre for Values in Leadership (CVL) held at Muson Centre in Onikan with the theme: “Living Well Together, Tomorrow: The Challenge Of Africa’s Future Cities,” Governor Ambode admitted that the present connectivity mode in Lagos was not acceptable and befitting for a mega city and as such, a well-structured transportation mode would soon be put in place to address the challenge.

“When I wake up in the morning and see all these yellow buses and see Okada and all kinds of tricycles and then we claim we are a mega city, that is not true and we must first acknowledge that that is a faulty connectivity that we are running.

Having accepted that, we have to look for the solution and that is why we want to banish yellow buses this year. We must address the issue of connectivity that makes people to move around with ease and that is where we are going.

For instance, people going from Ikorodu to CMS have started leaving their cars at home because the buses are very convenient and so why can’t we do that for other places? Yes, we don’t have the money to do that but we can go to the capital market and then improve on the technology of collection of fares and that will encourage investors and then the city will change,” Governor Ambode said.

He said the government was also embarking on massive reform in waste management system, expressing optimism that the plan will fully be actualized by July this year.

He said:

“We are also embarking on massive reform in the waste and sanitation management system. I don’t like the way the city is and the Private Sector Participants (PSP) collectors are not having enough capacity to do it but again should I tax people to death, the answer is no. I don’t want to tax people and so we need this partnership with the private sector so that they can invest in the sanitation management of the city and in no time maybe by July, the city will change forever.”

The Governor, who recalled the massive infrastructures being put in place in critical sectors of the Lagos economy such as transport sector, road construction and rehabilitation, construction of lay-bys, and flyovers among others, said the main objective of his administration remained the growth of the Lagos economy from 5th to 3rd largest economy in Africa.

On power, Governor Ambode said the major issue had always been with transmission and advocated an embedded power initiative that would allow clusters of Independent Power Projects (IPP) to run the cities.

He said he had remained focused on some issues such as infrastructure, security, job creation, power, adoption of technology as an enabler and driving investment through ease of doing business.

Pat Utomi, Governor Ambode

In his opening remarks, CVL founder and renowned development expert, Professor Pat Utomi said the idea behind the formation of the group was to get young people to begin to appreciate early what leadership was all about being service to the people.

Speaking on the theme of the symposium, Utomi said Lagos remained the best governed State in Nigeria in the last 18 years and a good example of what the country should be beyond and without oil.

He commended Governor Ambode on his leadership style and particularly congratulated Lagos for being named by the Rockefeller Foundation as one of the 100 most resilient cities in the world.

Chairman of the occasion and former Governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke said the theme of the symposium was apt considering that Nigeria’s population by 2050 would have tripled and as such it was important for the country to start planning for livable cities.

He commended Governor Ambode over his achievements in office so far, saying that it was obvious that the Governor has been performing very well and he is a good example of continuity in governance.

On his part, Director of Centre for African Economies, Oxford University, Professor Paul Collier said from his over thirty years experience of coming to Nigeria, Governor Ambode has proven himself to be the third excellent Governor in a row in Lagos.

Collier, who was the keynote speaker, said judging by the population projection of Nigeria by 2050, now is the time for the country to start building its cities to conform with modern trend.

He said Nigeria’s oil had been a course which messed up the economy, and so there was a need to start proper planning for development.

As a way out, Collier suggested an alliance between the business community and political actors, saying that to build a city that works, attention must be focused on energy and connectivity.

Politics / Ambode Signs Death Penalty For Kidnappers by ceometromedia: 3:19pm On Feb 01, 2017
Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday signed into law the anti-kidnapping bill recently passed by the State House of Assembly, with a pledge to ensure its full implementation to eradicate kidnapping once and for all in the State.

The Prohibition of the Act of Kidnapping Law imposes a penalty of life imprisonment on kidnapping for ransom. The law also stipulates that where a victim dies in the course of kidnap, the suspect is liable on conviction to death.

Speaking at the signing ceremony held at Lagos House in Ikeja, Governor Ambode said the spate of kidnapping in the State had gotten to a level that required decisive action from government, hence the need for the enactment of the law to send serious message to perpetrators of such heinous crime.

He said aside the enactment of the law, the State Government was also putting in place appropriate measures particularly in the schools and other vulnerable targets to prevent kidnapping and other security breaches.

The Governor said: “Security is of utmost importance to our administration and we are confident that this law will serve as a deterrent to anybody who may desire to engage in this wicked act within the boundaries of Lagos.

“Why we use this law to address the challenge and punish the criminals, we are also putting in place appropriate measures particularly in our schools and other vulnerable targets to prevent security breaches and it is important that we ensure that everything we do in respect of this anti-kidnapping law is in good faith and good spirit to eradicate the issue of kidnapping once and for all in the State.”

Governor Ambode assured that the justice system would be activated to execute the anti-kidnapping law to the letter to ensure that any criminal caught is subjected to the full wrath of the law.

The Governor, at the ceremony, also signed the Sports Trust Fund Bill and the Sports Commission bill into law, explaining that the laws were enacted to address key issues bordering on security and effectively harnessing the potentials in the sports sector.

Giving insight on the laws, Governor Ambode said: “The Sport Commission Law will give legal backing to the formulation and implementation of sport policies in the State while the Sport Trust Fund will enable government to raise money for the development of sporting facilities and activities.

“This fund will provide a platform where the State Government can enter into partnership with the private sector to finance sports infrastructure, tournaments and programmes which will in turn create employment and generate revenue for the State.”

He added that as provided for in the law, a Board of Trustees comprising all stakeholders in the sports community would soon be inaugurated for the Trust Fund, saying that with the law, government was restating its commitment to scale up sports development and make the State the hub of sports in Nigeria.

He also appreciated members of the Lagos State House of Assembly for their efforts in the enactment of the laws.

In his remarks, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, said the signing of the bills into law by the Governor was a clear testimony of the commitment of the State Government to the security of citizens and sports development.

Obasa, who was represented by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon Sanai Agunbiade, said it was particularly gratifying to note that the anti-kidnapping law was an all-encompassing one which prescribes punishment for the actual actors, those that collaborate, aid and abet and those who see the act of kidnapping being perpetrated and do nothing about it, as well as confiscation of properties attached to the heinous crime of kidnapping.

He said the passage and signing of the law was a direct response and responsiveness of the government to the spate of kidnapping in the State, adding that the expansive provisions in the law would, in no long distant future, ensure the eradication of the menace in the State.

On the bills on sports, the Speaker said: “We are happy that Lagos State is taking a very bold step at ensuring that sporting activities get a boost from the government and this is a clear demonstration to the people of Lagos State and Nigeria that the State Government is paying adequate attention to sporting activities.”

Politics / Buhari’s Govt Gives Loans To 23,400 Artisans by ceometromedia: 7:44pm On Jan 30, 2017
The Buhari Presidency’s Social Investment Programmes (SIPs) has been extended to artisans, with government disbursing 23,400 loans to beneficiaries in 13 states and the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja.

The micro-credit scheme styled Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), targets coverage for one million people, who are either artisans or market men and women, entrepreneurs or farmers.

They have already enrolled for the scheme and are expected to benefit this year, according to Laolu Akande, senior special assistant on media in the presidency.

The loan scheme is executed through the Bank of Industry, BOI, with the involvement of cooperatives.

Beneficiaries of the first phase are based in are Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Ekiti, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Lagos, Osun and Ogun. Others are in Oyo, Ondo, Rivers and the FCT.

The loan attracts no interest except the one-time 5% administrative fee for costs.

To facilitate the loan disbursement, four payment providers have been signed-on for the programme mostly in the urban areas. The next wave of payment providers, coming on stream by March 2017, would provide a much wider coverage in the rural areas.

Equally, about 8,436 market associations and cooperatives nationwide have been registered for this scheme through the web portal (www.boi.ng/market), as well as through paper application forms.

The loans range from N10,000, to N100,000 per applicant. While the loans would be paid directly to individuals, they are expected to belong to registered associations and/or cooperatives as the case may be, to ensure that they are peer-endorsed as credible, and to facilitate timely repayments. All beneficiaries must have BVNs and bank accounts.
