Christmas is a time of sharing love and giving gifts and as Christmas draws near, many people are preparing how they are going to celebrate. Some traditions involve holding huge Christmas parties, some involve giving gifts and others involve spending quality time with family.

As for Nollywood actor Desmond Elliot giving gifts to people might be his tradition.

The actor turned politician went to town dressed up in a Santa Claus outfit to give out gifts to people in Surulere area of Lagos state.

Elliot who called himself Santa Doe as he handed out gifts to people shared photos of the historic event on social media. He shared videos and photos on his Instagram page describing the gift giving process.

First lady of Nigeria Aisha Buhari,had advised women and youths in Bauchi State to work hard and acquire knowledge to enable them benefit from opportunities that will be coming their way.Mrs. Buhari made this known at the closing ceremony of the Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Training Programme initiated and sponsored by her pet project, Future Assured. the event took place on Thursday at the Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall, in Bauchi.

Citing herself as an example, Mrs. Buhari urged women and children, to acquire education as she did after her marriage that she went back to school.


“You know, when I got married, I just finished my secondary school education. I didn’t think my husband will be President again, but I still continued with my education and this is where God has brought me to today.

“I want to call on our people with a strong voice, education has become a compulsory thing that we must acquire.




“We must understand English and know how to speak it so that when any intervention comes, we will benefit from it. So, please, for God’s sake, people should continue to go to school even if you will not work in an office and earn money, but, so that, when opportunities come up tomorrow, you will not be left out.

“So, nobody should relent or give up in going to school to acquire knowledge. We should keep reading and schooling for the benefit of the society.”

Ogechi Ololo, the biological sister of Governor Rochas Okorocha has defended her appointment as Commissioner for Happiness and Couples' Fulfillment for Imo state.

Against the backdrop of recent killings which led to reprisals in some communities of Adamawa State, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has arrived Yola the state capital.

The VP who landed at yola international airport, at about noon, was received by the State Governor, Sen Mohammed Jibrilla Bindow, members of the state executive, senior security personnel and the Lamido of Adamawa, Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha.

The Nigeria Customs Service has cancelled the promotion examination recently conducted for senior officers from the rank of Assistant Comptroller to Deputy Comptroller over irregularities observed in the conduct of the examination.

According to an internal circular, dated November 22, 2017, the Comptroller General of the Service, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.), ordered the cancellation.

The circular, signed by the Deputy Comptroller General in charge of Human Resources, stated that Monday, November 27, 2017, had been fixed for a repeat of the examination at the Customs Command at Staff College, Gwagwalada, Abuja.

The circular with reference number NCS/ABJ/HRD/560/C/VOL.VIII addressed to all management staff and Customs formations nationwide read, ”The 2017 Promotion Examination (CBT) AC-DC (GD) taken on October 11, 2017, has been cancelled.

“This is consequent upon violation of the integrity of the examination process.”

Sources within the service said the examination, which was conducted on October 11, 2017, was allegedly marred by irregularities including leakage of examination questions.

They added that the promotion examination under the management of Ali was of higher integrity compared with the previous ones.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer, NCS, Mr. Joseph Attah, informed our correspondent that promotion exams were conducted for all the ranks in the service but only one paper was cancelled.

He explained that the paper that was cancelled was the promotion examination paper written by Assistant Comptrollers that was to qualify them for promotion to the Deputy Comptroller rank.

He said, “The paper was cancelled due to integrity issue and because the current NCS has zero tolerance for lack of integrity. The exam was rescheduled for Monday.

“The NCS is doing this so that the officers who would be promoted would be people of high integrity who have no question mark on their character.”

An alleged notorious armed robber and cultist has met his waterloo after he was reportedly shot dead by policemen in Imo state.



A deadly cultist and armed robber identified as Ifeanyi a.k.a Fada has been shot dead by men of the Nigeria Police in Imo state.

According to reports, the young man is alleged to be a member of the Vikings confraternity had been on police wanted list for various crimes ranging from armed robbery to cultism.

He was reportedly shot in the heart by the security operatives.

The Bus Conductors Association of Nigeria says that its members in Lagos State will start wearing uniforms from Jan. 1, 2018 for security and effective service delivery.

The National President of the association, Mr Isreal Adeshola, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeriain Lagos on Sunday.

Adeshola said the operational uniform would bring sanity to the service in the state and the country as a whole.

According to him, the association has started training its members in Lagos State and educating them on the job procedures and attitudinal change while on duty.

“The association has been able to train a reasonable number of conductors on behavioural change.

“We started the registrations and training at Lagos State Drivers Institute for attitudinal and change in orientation of the members toward passengers and traffic rules.

“By Jan.1, 2018, all our registered members will be in their operational uniforms for proper identification and effective service delivery,” he said.

The president explained that part of the reasons for training its members was to ensure adequate security of passengers and good customer relationship with the people they relate with.

He said that putting on uniforms with identification numbers would ensure accountability and brought sense of responsibility among the members.

Adeshola said that the association was working towards eradicating the menace of using under-age as bus conductors across the country.

He announced that persons from 18 years and above were qualified to join the association.

The president added that any minor found operating as a bus conductor should be arrested.

“We are coming out to tell Lagos residents that bus conducting is a respected profession like in other western countries where they are respected because they offered humanitarian services.

“In Nigeria, people see them as nobody which is not supposed to be so,” he said.

The Senate has threatened to issue arrest warrant against the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Ibrahim Idris, for failing to appear before its ad-hoc committee investigating allegations of abuse of office against him


The Chairman of the ad-hoc committee, Sen. Francis Alimikhena, issued the threat when the IGP failed to appear before the committee on Wednesday. Alimikhena, who is also the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, said the IGP was summoned on Oct. 16 to answer allegations made against him by Sen. Isah Misau (APC-Bauchi).

Alimikhena said rather than honour the invitation, his lawyer, Alex Iziyon, wrote to the committee informing it that the matter was already in court.


He said: “nobody, including court, can stop the Senate from carrying out its constitutional duties.

“The separation of powers guaranteed by law, made it explicit that the Senate cannot be prevented in carrying out its constitutional duties by any other arm of government.

“If the IGP fails to appear on Nov. 7, the committee would invoke Section 89 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to compel him to appear.

“He will be summoned again and must appear next Tuesday, 7th of November.

“We got a letter from his lawyer, Alex Iziyon that he will not appear before this committee. He said the IGP has already gone to court and appearing will be subjudice.”

The National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Ahmed Makarfi, on behalf of the Party has empathized with the National Leader of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and former Governor of Lagos state, Bola Tinubu, on the demise of his son, Jide.

This was made known in a statement by the Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Dayo Adeyeye, on Thursday.

PDP said the news of the death of Jide Tinubu was “sad, shocking and very painful.”

The statement further said the party believes, “that the Almighty God knows the best and understands the circumstances surrounding his sudden departure from us and we pray Him (God), to give his family and the government of Lagos state the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

“May the soul of Jide Tinubu rest in perfect peace. Once again, accept our condolences.”
