FoodNigerian Bottling Company Allays Fears Over Benzoic Acid In Soft Drinks by CeoNewshelm(op): 9:13am On Mar 16, 2017
The Nigerian Bottling Company Limited (NBC) has described as false, the media reports that Fanta and Sprite beverages are unsafe, simply because their levels of Benzoic acid were not within the United Kingdom standards.

NBC’s Legal, Public Affairs and Communications Director, Mrs. Sade Morgan, said in a statement on Wednesday.

In the judgement delivered on February 15, 2017 in a suit involving Fijabi Adebo Holdings Limited & Dr. Emmanuel Fijabi Adebo v. Nigerian Bottling Company Limited (NBC) & National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), the Lagos High Court dismissed all claims against NBC and held that the company had not breached its duty of care to consumers and that there was no proven case of negligence against it.

In the same judgement, the court directed NAFDAC to mandate NBC to include a warning on its bottles of Fanta and Sprite that its contents cannot be taken with Vitamin C as same become poisonous if taken with Vitamin C. This order was premised on the fact that the products contain the preservative, benzoic acid.

NBC has since appealed this order.

Here's a release by the Coca-Cola company.
"Both Benzoic Acid and Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) are ingredients approved by international food safety regulators and used in many food and beverage products around the world. These ingredients are also used in combination in some products within levels which may differ from one country to another as approved by the respective national food and drug regulators in line with the range prescribed by CODEX, the joint intergovernmental body responsible for harmonizing international food standards.

All Coca-Cola products, including Fanta and Sprite, produced and sold in Nigeria contain quantities and combinations of various ingredients in line with the CODEX standards and the national levels approved by NAFDAC. While Fanta contains a combination of Benzoic and Ascorbic Acids, Sprite does not contain Ascorbic Acid (only Benzoic Acid). The recent court order relating to this matter has been appealed by NAFDAC and the Nigerian Bottling Company Limited respectively.

We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to product quality, safety and consumer satisfaction.”

PoliticsMo Ibrahim Award 2016: No African Leaders Worthy by CeoNewshelm(op): 3:43pm On Feb 28, 2017
For the second year running, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation has announced that there is no winner of the 2016 Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership.

In a statement on Tuesday, the foundation said it made the decision following a meeting of the independent prize committee chaired by Salim Ahmed Salim, a renowned diplomat.

The statement quoted Salim to have said, “As I emphasise each year, a very high bar was deliberately set when the prize was launched in 2006.

“We recognise and applaud the important contributions that many African leaders have made to change their countries for the better. But the prize is intended to highlight and celebrate truly exceptional leadership, which is uncommon by its very definition.

“After careful consideration, the committee has decided not to award the prize in 2016.”
The Ibrahim Prize honours former African heads of state or government who developed their countries and strengthened democracy and human rights for the shared benefit of their people, paving the way for sustainable and equitable prosperity.

PoliticsIt Is Wrong To Call Nigeria ‘naija’ - NOA by CeoNewshelm(op): 8:41am On Feb 22, 2017
The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Garba Abari, has appealed to Nigerians to stop calling Nigeria as ‘Naija’, in order to keep its originality.

He stated this while speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, stressing that making the country’s name funky, was not in its best interest.

“We try in all our advocacy visits to insist that Nigeria must be referred to as Nigeria and not Naija.

“So, our schools have a role to play in this; the media itself has also got a very fundamental role to play because it is the media that helps in the propagation of this kind of misnomer.

“All of us, as individuals, as corporate organisations, as media, whether broadcast, print or online, must wake up to the reality.

“That the more we use these misnomers referring to our country, the fallout of it is that, a significant percentage of our younger ones will not even remember that Nigeria is the original name of our country.

“I want to appeal to all Nigerians, young and old to always refer to our country as Nigeria,” he said.

Abari also urged parents to discourage their children and wards from using the name `Naija’.

Politics"Fake News More Dangerous Than Insurgency, Can Break Nigeria" – Lai Mohammed by CeoNewshelm(op): 4:14pm On Feb 21, 2017
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, says the phenomenon of fake news, if left unchecked, poses more threat to the nation than insurgency and militancy.

The minister reiterated this position on Tuesday in Abuja at the seventh edition of the National Security Seminar with the theme “Consolidating on the Gains of Counter-Terrorism Operations in Nigeria’’.

The seminar was jointly organised by the National Defence College of Nigeria, the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Alumni Association of National Defence College.

Mohammed said that the phenomenon of fake news propagated majorly by the social media “is so serious that it threatened to break the country rapidly even more than insurgency’’.

He noted that to consolidate on the defeat of the Boko Haram insurgent, the armed forces should give special attention to its communication and information dissemination strategy.

“We must pay adequate attention to communication strategy and have our people who will be very active also on the social media.

“It is a front that has been largely neglected which we must now pay special and adequate attention to,’’ he said.

According to him, fake news phenomenon is a situation where someone or some persons will fabricate stories capable of setting one group or religion against the other and send them out through the social media.

PoliticsNigeria's Power Output Climbs 4,000 MW – Fashola by CeoNewshelm(op): 12:41pm On Feb 20, 2017
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has disclosed that power generation in Nigeria has stepped up to 4,000 megawatts in the last two weeks.

Fashola made the disclosure on Saturday in Benin while inspecting ongoing work at the Aduwawa axis of the Benin-Lokoja highway.

He said the major challenge facing the power sector was shortage of gas to power gas turbines, and that power generation could be increased to 7000 mw if vandalisation of gas pipelines did not take place .

“3000 mw of power is not available because of vandalisation of gas pipelines, which is not helpful to the country. If we can recover the 3000 mw lost to vandalism and add to the 4000 mw, we will have 7,000 mw,” he said.

CelebritiesJide Kosoko - I Regret Being A Polygamist by CeoNewshelm(op): 4:31pm On Feb 18, 2017
Veteran Nollywood actor, Prince Jide Kosoko has regretted venturing into polygamy.

Explaining how he became a polygamist, the actor told Saturday beats, “If I have to be frank, I regret being a polygamist. I must confess. I did not really plan it and it was designed beyond my power because I never planned to marry so many wives. I first married one wife but she was not part of the job I was doing and in those days, you needed a very trustworthy assistant. That pushed me to marrying the second wife. I stayed with them until I lost them both eleven months apart in the same scenario – childbirth.”

He added that he initially thought he wouldn’t marry again but, “A doctor of mine advised against it. He said I was still young and needed to take a wife. I looked at the situation critically and realised that a lot of my friends were coming to my apartment with their girlfriends and I saw myself as becoming irresponsible and my house was a free house. Some of those of my friends were married yet they still brought their girlfriends to my house. I felt if I had a wife, all that would not happen so I tried to get another wife. I was romancing two women with the mind of settling down with one. But eventually, the two entered. That was how I became a polygamist.

PoliticsNigerian Army Warns Rumour Mongers by CeoNewshelm(op): 3:16pm On Feb 18, 2017
The Nigerian army has issued a stern warning to 'mischief makers' spreading false stories about the allowances paid to soldiers.

See statement below:

The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a campaign of calumny on social media platforms by some individuals or group of persons. The faceless persons have been making spurious and unfounded allegations bordering on payment of troops operations allowances, rotation in the North East and comparing troops' pay to what obtains in neighbouring countries. The fabricators are most probably being sponsored by the categories of people that frustrated themselves out of the Army and political self-defeatists. They are clearly sentimental and lack knowledge of the Nigerian Army of today.

However, investigation is ongoing to determine the full identity and source of this mischief and all those found connected with it will be dealt with in accordance with the extant provisions of the military justice system. We wish to reiterate that the Nigerian Army is a voluntary Service. We are not running a conscript Army, all those not satisfied are at liberty to apply for voluntary retirement or discharge as the case may be. We cannot afford to have disloyal or disgruntled elements in the system. Anybody caught to be involved in this ignominious campaign would have himself or herself to blame.

The Nigerian Army of today cannot be compared with that of any other period. So much has been done in the areas of operations, training, general administration, logistics and general welfare of troops and their families. The families of our fallen colleagues are being given adequate attention commensurate with the established terms and conditions of service. Additionally, the concern on troops welfare has been extended to their families through the creation of the Barracks Investment Initiative Programme (BIIP) in which officers and soldiers families and dependents actively participate.

The Nigerian Army has an elaborate exit plan for all officers and soldiers involved in the fight against Boko Haram terrorists in the North East this year, subject to operational exigencies. That is why all efforts must be geared towards mopping up the remnants of the desperate terrorists still bent on causing mayhem wherever they can. Any soldier who is not satisfied with the professional drive of the Nigerian Army and that of the government can do himself a world of good by voluntarily discharging from the Nigerian Army.

Otherwise all must desist from rumour mongering and outright falsehood which are unprofessional and have no place in today's Nigerian Army. Fifth columnists will not succeed in their mischief as they will be fished out and dealt with. You are please requested to disseminate this information to the public through your medium. Thank you for your kind cooperation. Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman Director Army Public Relations

BusinessLady Mistakenly Pays N1m Into Couple's Account In Calabar (Photos) by CeoNewshelm(op): 3:00pm On Feb 16, 2017
A couple have been called out by a client who accused them of refusing to return money that was mistakenly paid into their account.
Couple abscond with the N1m rent money mistakenly transferred to them by a struggling client

Mrs Fatima Tijjani Ahmad aka MsFancy, was accused of disappearing with money that was paid into her account in error

According to a post shared on Instagram by @chaff2chic_ltd, she had patronised a couple who deal in body and beauty products, and had set them more than the money she was supposed to make payments with, in error.

She was supposed to send N16,000, and had ended up sending N1,000,000 which she was supposed to pay her shop rent with.

Sharing her story, she wrote:

"Sometime late last year, I came across a couple, Mr Ahmad Lawal @egnr_m.I.u and Mrs Fatima Tijjani Ahmad @mssfancy, in my business place in Calabar. The husband had his hair cut and some laundry done, while the wife had her hair done, pedicure/manicure, had a face beat @fumis_makeup , and a few mssfancy t-shirts branded for her @ajeboclothings...all embodied in a single building @chaff2chic_ltd..I noticed her nice skin and complimented her and she told me she sells natural cream and soap. I patronized her and asked for her account number..my bill was 16,000 Naira.

Two days later, on the 29th of December, I asked my shop agent to send me the account number so I can pay my shop rent and for some reason, a message drops with account number and phone number. Very unlike me, I was careless and mistakenly transferred part of my shop rent (1,000,000) to Mrs Fatima Tijjani Ahmad @mssfancy .. Upon realising what happened, I called to inform them and thankfully, they swiftly acknowledged receiving an alert from me..and agreed to transfer it back the following day.

2 days passed and I didn't call to trouble them because I made the mistake in the first place and at this time the agent and lawyers were already on my neck. Then a week passed and they kept giving stories of a loved one dying and his wife having a miscarriage and kidney infection.. I still waited for them to mourn their loved one while I prayed for her quick recovery.

2 weeks passed and three weeks passed and still nothing. When i tried to reach out to people following her on IG, she suddenly blocked me and every other person that confronted her about it and sends me an epistle of how wealthy they are.

Till date I haven't heard from them concerning my money...they don't take my calls anymore or reply my messages. I have screen munches of our conversation (the wife and I) , recorded conversations (the husband and I), proof of payment e.t.c . Please help a young struggling girl reach out to them, beg them to send back my money please!!."

TravelLagos Conductors To Start Wearing Uniforms And Badges by CeoNewshelm(op): 2:48pm On Feb 16, 2017
Bus conductors in Lagos state will now start wearing uniforms, tags and badges. The National President of Bus Conductors Association of Nigeria, Mr. Israel Adeshola, says so. This will take effect from March, and it is mandatory for bus conductors in the state to wear uniforms, name tags, and badges.

Adeshola on Thursday said that the Lagos State government has approved wearing of uniforms and badges.

He said that the use of badges and wearing of uniforms by over 3,000 bonafide members got the approval of the government on Monday.

He said, “We are in collaboration with Lagos state government on the issue of badges and uniforms for commercial conductors, which was finalised on Monday.

“This is because we don’t want to start without the government’s approval. So by the first week of March, we will roll them out.”

Adeshola explained that the introduction of uniforms, name tags and badges had become necessary to enforce decorum and ensure the safety of duly registered members and members of the public.

According to him, with the vital information on the badge, any conductor involved in a crime can easily be identified and apprehended.

The national president explained that the novel idea was being experimented in Lagos state before other states can take a cue.

PhonesNokia 3310 Returns To Market This Month by CeoNewshelm(op): 10:15am On Feb 15, 2017
Nokia will re-launch the 3310, perhaps the best-loved and most resilient phone in history.

HMD Global Oy, the Finnish manufacturer with exclusive rights to market phones under the storied Nokia brand, is planning to announce four such handsets at Mobile World Congress later this month, according to a person briefed VentureBeat on the company’s plans.

The phone, originally released in 2000 and in many ways beginning the modern age of mobiles, will be sold as a way of getting lots of battery life in a nearly indestructible body.

The new incarnation of the old 3310 will be sold for just €59, and so likely be pitched as a reliable second phone to people who fondly remember it the first time around.

Although, it is still possible to buy the 3310 on Amazon, though only through its marketplace and not directly from the company itself.
