Gov. Okorocha of Imo state has called on Jesus to protect his state from monkey pox. He also dismissed what he termed wicked rumours about the state being part of those affected. Statement: The Attention of the Imo State government has been drawn to the wicked and unfounded rumor being spread by the wicked ones over the monkey pox virus which created undue anxiety in Owerri, the state capital especially among some parents, on Wednesday, October 11, 2017. The State government wants to inform Imo people in particular and the general public that the monkey pox virus is not in Imo and will never be in Imo in Jesus Name. The federal Government has named few states that have had one or two cases and the states that should be monitored closely and Imo State is not among any of the groups. So these wicked rumor mongers in the state will surely reap the ugly fruits of their ugly acts. Again, no child or pupil or student has been immunized or is being immunized as part of the rumour had carried, because there is no need for such action. However, the government is on the alert and will take the necessary action if the need arises and Imo people will duly be informed. But for now, there is no cause for any alarm. Imo is in the hand of God. Sam Onwuemeodo Chief Press Secretary to the Governor http://www.newshelmng.com/2017/10/monkey-pox-gov-okorocha-calls-on-jesus.html cc lalasticlala mynd44 |

Former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashid Ladoja, has said that no one in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should stop Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, from contesting for Presidency in 2019, saying it is the governor’s fundamental human rights. Ladoja, who visited the governor Fayose at the governor’s office in Ado- Ekiti yesterday, said is eminently qualified to contest for the presidency in 2019 and no one should stop him. “Governor Fayose is my own brother and he is a go-getter. Whatever he sets his mind to achieve, he goes for it and he gets it. He is eminently qualified and possesses all the leadership capabilities to rule Nigeria and take us out of the woods. “Some people in the PDP have said that they have zoned the presidency to the North, but it is left for Fayose to convince the members in the PDP to support him for his presidential ambition. He is fit for it, judging from his antecedents as a quintessential leader in the country. I also want to advise the party leadership to use zoning of the presidency in a way that would guarantee the PDP winning the election in 2019, and not as a way of favouring some individuals who may not be ready for the job.” http://www.newshelmng.com/2017/10/fayose-is-qualified-to-contest-2019.html cc lalasticlala mynd44 |

Super Eagles got a big boost ahead of their crucial World Cup cracker against the Chipolopolo of Zambia as Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom State redeemed his pledge of 10,000 dollars per goal for the matches against Cameroon to the team, according to a statement from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Thursday in Abuja. Governor Udom had promised the players 10,000 dollars for every goal, two days before their clash with the reigning African champions, whom the Super Eagles walloped 4-0 in Uyo on Sept.1. They went on to earn a 1-1 draw with the Lions in Yaounde on Sept. 4. “Governor Udom has redeemed the pledge on Wednesday, while calling on the Super Eagles to go for the broke on Saturday and expect ‘a handsome reward’ from him. “There will be more incentives for the Super Eagles if the team could earn a sixth FIFA World Cup appearance by winning on Saturday,’’ NFF’s spokesman, Ademola Olajire said in a statement. “I know you have the quality to overcome in this important match, but I don’t want you to underrate your opponents. “I love the professionalism and dedication to cause that you have shown since the beginning of this qualifying campaign. Those efforts have put Nigeria at the top of the table. “I want to commend the NFF, your coaches and the support staff for the great job they have all done in support of your efforts to get to this position. “You are just one win away from achieving your goal. The Zambians are taking this game as a do-or-die affair, so we need to be totally focused and play like soldiers,’’ it quoted the governor as saying. The statement said Super Eagles’ Captain, Mikel John Obi, thanked the governor and pledged to him and indeed Nigerians everywhere that the team would not disappoint on Saturday. “We very much appreciate the role Your Excellency, the Government and good people of Akwa Ibom State, the NFF and Nigerians from all walks of life have played to get us to this position in this campaign. “We know how much this match means and we will go out there and do the job.’’ http://www.newshelmng.com/2017/10/gov-emmanuel-redeems-50000-pledge-nff.html cc lalasticlala |

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar III, is not happy that Nigerian youths are always on social media. According to him, Facebook, Instagram and other social apps are diverting the attention of students in the country. There is a disturbing development where the attention of students is being diverted from their studies. “This is through the use of various social media like Facebook, Twitter,Whatsapp, 2Go and Instagram, among others,’’ he said. "The rate at which girls are spending time on social network is worrisome and this poses imminent danger to our society. “Girls are the nerve centre of our moral and societal development and if they derail, the whole society will be in danger because they are our mothers and care givers.” Instead, parents should ensure that their daughters spend more time on meaningful things, like reciting the Holy Qur’an, he said. http://www.newshelmng.com/2017/07/nigerian-girls-should-reduce-time-they.html
