Alternative singer, Simi, was one of the biggest winners at the recently concluded Headies award. https://newshelm.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_0049-2.jpg Ibrahim Magu, Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, stressed the need to adopt multiple measures including sports in order to effectively fight corruption. “Football as a sport is not new and we take delight in various sporting activities, this is the reason why we want to inculcate football as a strategy to fight corruption”, he said. Magu made this assertion on Thursday, May 3, 2018 while unveiling the official jersey of the EFCC FC (Football Club), Abuja, at the Commission’s permanent site, Jabi, Airport Road, Abuja, where he was joined by senior management staff of the Commission as well as officials of the EFCC FC. The EFCC boss, while appreciating the Commission’s management and staff for their support for the success recorded so far particularly in making the EFCC permanent site a reality said “this was a huge milestone and it is possible because of such dedication from all the staff”. In his remarks, Mohammed Bako, Patron, EFCC FC, said, “Football is a social way of networking and EFCC is using this platform for dual purpose of enjoying a good game and mobilizing people while creating awareness about the fight against corruption”. He noted that the fight against corruption was indeed for everyone to tackle individually and collectively. Also speaking, Usman Haruna Ilerike, Secretary, FCT Football Association, commended the EFCC’s initiative noting that “the future is bright for all the Nigerian youths as football is an engaging sport that will redirect the youths from being used for corrupt practices to something purposeful”. He recalled that, “in 2016 in the FCT FA Annual General Assembly an integrity committee consisting of 2 Desk Officers in each club including FCT was set up to check the menace of corruption and this measure is currently being developed and will be sustained worldwide”. The EFCC FC, which was founded in 2007 with robust management and technical team and players, won the FCT FA Cup in 2017. The EFCC FC jersey come in red and whilte colours for home and away games. According to Punchng, the committee members met with Osagie and another lecturer, who the female student claimed she reported the matter to for his intervention, at the Pro- Chancellor’s Lodge on the campus on Tuesday. One of her lawyers, the Executive Director of WARD-C, Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, while narrating what happened during the meeting to journalists, said Osagie scored 45 in the course which Akindele taught her and not 33 that the lecturer claimed that she scored. Her words: “The committee members asked her ( Osagie) to narrate her ordeal with the professor which she did . She affirmed that the recording took place and she justified why she resorted to self -help because there was no effective support coming from the university. The incident happened towards the end of last year (2017 ). . She has completed her programme . She passed the course that we are talking about. She didn ’t fail. The school reaffirmed that she passed and that she scored 45 and not 33 ; and the man (prof .) did not give her mark . Apparently the man was using the 33 as a bait to get her. She talked about the fact that she is a good student and that she passed all her courses. That she shouldn’t have failed the course and that she checked and found out that she passed and that the 33 the man talked about must have been his (lecturer) imagination . It must also have been a way of negotiating with her to get her to bow to his wish , which was the reason she recorded the conversation. He was arraigned on one-count charge of sexual assault before Mrs O.J. Oghere. Prosecuting Sergeant Modupe Olaluwoye told the court that Shamaki committed the offence at about 6:30pm on March 14, at 9, Adebisi Tolani Street, Medina Estate, Gbagada, Lagos. Olaluwoye said the defendant assaulted the complainant (name withheld) by forcing himself on her and penetrating her with his fingers. The offence contravened Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Shamaki pleaded not guilty. Magistrate Oghere remanded him in prison and ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice. A police report indicated that the women were arrested in the Ijebu Ode, Sagamu, and Abeokuta areas of Ogun State during sting operations jointly carried out by operatives of the command and officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria on Thursday, April 12, and Friday, April 13, 2018. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the operations were in line with the provisions of Section 21(1) of the CBN Act 2007, which made hawking, selling and abuse of the naira a punishable offence. He said, “Various denominations of naira notes totalling N1,560,000 were recovered from the suspects who were publicly exhibiting their illicit trade.” Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Aminu Alhassan, to commence a full scale investigation into the activities of the currency hawkers. The suspects, he said, would be charged to court at the end of investigation. During Liverpool's trashing of Manchester City yesterday night, The Liverpool forward, Mohammed Sallah limped off with what looks like a strain in his left leg and the medical team, probably didn't want seem to want to risk him, withdrew him from the game. I just hope we all know on judgement day, the wisdom which God has given us will be used against us; Cos somethings we twist with our own hands will end up putting us in trouble...
