Without Police and military guys complicity in crime especially kidnapping, such high level of insecurity we are experiencing wont exist
The real people fuelling insecurity are the security agencies
Gaddafithe2nd:
You can say that again. There are proof superiors in the military are aiding and abetting insurgency.
When TY Danjuma first made this assertion last year, some people in power accused him of being melodramatic. angry He said it clearly then, that the military was "colluding" with the insurgents and killer herdsmen. Now he has been vindicated. Are the rest of the people, not seeing the result now?

I will be paying school fees, electricity bills, hospital, water, house rents etc and still be paying for house chores? Never. Kids with the OP treatment will place price on everything when they mature.
Ah, I no know say you sef don see am. Any child that wants to be paid for doing household chores, must also be ready to pay his mum for cooking, cleaning, rent and other things they do for him. Nothing spoil. cheesy

A very wrong decision. Altruism remains the thin difference between family and commercial corporate entity, so once it's eliminated in the scheme of things, automatically what will be left is self-centeredness/selfishness/greediness.
Thank you, o! May the wisdom God put inside your mind, continue to flourish....

GeneralPula:
Nah normal thing for Yankee. I get a nigga wey him momma dey pay am for taking care of dia grandmom every morning. White women been doing this no be today!
So he cannot take care of his grandmother out of the goodness of his heart, or because they share blood ties? So the day he is not paid, does that mean he will abandon her? shocked huh

Different strokes for different folks you may say. As a kid,I took interest in always tidying the house after my mum made it a duty to always reward me with chocolates and coins for my break at school.

Before long, all my siblings tumbled over each other to be doing same so that same rewards could be extended to them .

It worked for my mum too just like this mum. Till date, without sounding boastful, my apartment is always spick and span.
Oga, na so. I know several people who are also neatness freaks, but were never paid in cash or kind to be neat, by their parents. They were simply taught the virtue of keeping their sorroundings neat, or spick and span. Children learn more, by watching and copying what they see their elders do.

Using cash to reinforce acceptable behaviour in the lives of kids, is a no-no. The sense of entitlement that it breeds, cannot be underestimated.

I sincerely respect your viewpoint but you don't necessarily have to agree with me as our perceptions of life may not be from the same angle or prism.

In Psychology, you can reinforce behavior by rewarding acceptable conducts. You can condition a child to be exactly what you want him /her to be.
There are various ways to reinforce acceptable behaviour. Paying kids in exchange for doing household chores, is NOT a method I would subscribe to....

Poverty mentality. When you've kids you naturally want to give them the world. I don't see anything wrong w| asking them to work for it. They technically cannot go out to work now, as they're underaged, but this is a neat way to preparethem
No Madam. It has absolutely nothing to do with poverty mentality. In fact, your mentality is the poor one, because you believe in paying kids to do household chores, instead of seeking more appropriate ways to teach them the value of hard work.

Let kids be kids. Teach them discipline, integrity, compassion, respect, cause-and-effect, team work, appreciation etc, and not payment for household chores ...and see if they would not imbibe the right values.

Giving your kids the world, does not mean spoiling them with stuff and fake ideology.

It may not be very apt to compare their generation to this generation.

Over permissive parenting and a sense of entitlement has done a lot of damage to the psyche of the millennials.

It doesn't necessarily mean that this is the only way that hard work could be instilled in them.

It's actually a plus.
Sir, with all due respect I disagree with you. Good values do not go out of fashion. People just like to suppress it with all this 'generational' talk. Hard work does not have to be instilled in kids, by simply paying them for doing household chores....

Over permissive parents should find better ways to correct their mistakes, instead of embarking on cosmetic moves, that would worsen the situation and upbringing of their kids.

Kids of these days don't know how easy they have things today, I remember that year if u forget or ignore to do your own portion of house chores, the beating and punishment u will receive that day from mumcy will be unprecedented and if dad gets to know, then u will receive legendary beating and punishment ranging from not giving you night food and doing all the house chores alone grin
I am telling you!! Your eye go clear with the beating you get for every job left undone .... cheesy

GrabHisBalls:
SMH. Come try that rubbish with a Nigerian parent, you'll first leave their house, then you'll know what life is like.

There's absolutely nothing commendable here 'cause she's breeding entitled kids. Why pay them for doing chores? Do they pay you for paying school fees and feeding?
Thank you, o! In fact, you took the words out of my mouth....

Awesome!
That's how to instill functional values and industry in kids . They'll grow up to know that there's no free lunch, even in Freetown.
Many of our parents generation were not paid for doing household chores, yet they grew up with functional values and industry. I cannot see anywhere it was said that Dangote's parents or Tony Elumelu's parents, or Comas Maduka of Coscharis, or Subomi Balogun's parents paid them for doing household chores. Yet, they built industries oh.
FamilyRe: American Mum Pays Her Kids Salary For Doing House Chores (Photos) by CeterisXVIII: 5:07pm On Aug 20, 2019
theButterfly:
The issue is not that they don't want to do house chores for free, but that they're asking for money and different things - which is typical of children. Instead of giving them money and buying them these requests, like other American parents do, the mother's making them work for them, which I think is VERY commendable. They'll grow up knowing that you've to work for money, wants and needs [although I'm sure their basic needs are being met]. She's also teaching them about job searches, interviews, taxes and many life skills in the process. So this isn't rubbish but great parenting! smiley
As children, they would naturally ask for the moon and back. But as parents you need to deny their frivolous requests, and teach them how to be content with the little they have.

Adopting this tactic of paying them for house chores, is going to breed a set of selfish kids who will end up putting a price tag on everything, and treating every form of assistance, as a commercial transaction.

You will hear things like: "Why should I help old disabled Mrs Morris to mown her lawn for free, when my mom pays me for taking out the trash? Let Mrs Morris also pay me a fee, then I will help her out with the lawn." Na so e dey take start..
FamilyRe: American Mum Pays Her Kids Salary For Doing House Chores (Photos) by CeterisXVIII: 12:10am On Aug 20, 2019
Horlubunmmy:
Nice one.
modern parenting.
such can't happen in naija, instead the the rich ones will look for an under age girl as house maid, and be paying her parent peanut.
This is wubbish parenting. angry Any parent that does this, is just breeding self-centred kids with an entitlement mentality, who will end up putting a price, on everything.

If the children are entitled to eat good food for free, and also attend schools whose fees are paid by their parents, then they need to learn how to do house chores for free.

It is for their own good, so that they would not be a burden to others, in future. undecided

Anyway, every mistake in America like this one, can soon become a fashion statement, in Nigeria.

Any child that wants to be paid for doing house chores, had better learn how to pay his mum for making good food for him. How much is a plate of akamu and akara again, sef? shocked

Some FIRS offices e.g Awka are asking newly registered companies to pay 250K for tax clearance. Excessive taxation can actually slow down the economy and ultimately lead to low tax revenues. A more reasonable approach is to tax moderately but ensure that more people/companies pay taxes.
I concur! cool

No need for long story by Fowler. They should compare the number of businesses that collapsed under PMB's regime, with the number that failed under GEJ. sad

Next, they should compare the rate of unemployment during both regimes, as well as the number of layoffs and staff retrenched in the public and private sector, under both governments. That is where the answer lies.

The unemployed and the collapsed businesses, cannot pay tax. For every failed enterprise and every retrenched worker, that is another source of tax gone. undecided

I commend her for her courage and management skill but condemn her for lack of creativity and innovativeness.

Why condemn her?
The wheelbarrow is looking so dirty for someone who claims she made 150k in two month or averaged 75k in first two month of operation. Why not go for a bigger and neater cart, possible a electrically powered one that's rechargeable and start thinking of how to establish on outlet. once the formula for two outlets are gotten she can do really wonderful things from there.
That wheelbarrow is a limitation in a sense because it limits the volume of trade she can do.

75k is still above the salary some people join secret society for.
How do you know that she is not saving up to change her wheel barrow to a more dignified food cart? huh

Don't forget that she started with just 5,000 naira. Such an amount will not be enough to fabricate or manufacture a posh food cart.

She is probably planning to do the business for a while and then plough back the proceeds, into the business to expand it. Next time you see her, she might have a food cart similar to the one you can see below. cheesy

oh she married ? and her husband is letting her do that ?
And what on earth is wrong with what she is doing? shocked

Last time I checked, she was:

1). Earning a living;
2). Providing a product (i.e food) to meet the needs of the public, in return for a fee;
3). Keeping herself busy doing a legit business;
4). Putting money in her pocket and food on the table, from her earnings;
5). Not making a nuisance of herself by being a beggar;
6). Not asking you for a dime to supplement her income, because she was broke.

Now, what is your beef again? The fact that she decided to abandon her ego and pride, and settle for a business that puts food on her table, in a legit manner? huh

Story! If you know my profile outside Nairaland, you will realise she no reach where I dey, that's one. Then two! I cant be so brainless and be hawking food as a graduate. Heavens forbid. It cannot happen. Why did I go to school then? If I can't create jobs for people.

She no try at all

And her husband is even worse off!

But anyways may God bless her hustle and give her an helper.

Cause she is suffering if you don't know.

Such suffering angry
Do not despise the days of small beginnings. From that wheelbarrow, she can expand her business to a food cart or a food caravan/truck.

In my area, I have seen two couples selling food from a mobile kitchen or caravan/truck. They bring in their vehicles before 9a.m. and finish selling breakfast by 11a.m. From 12 noon to 4 p.m they sell lunch packs to workers, traders and other interested parties.

You need to see the queue of people who rush in, to buy their food.

There are some areas in Victoria Island, Ikoyi and Lagos Island with huge offices and posh restaurants. Middle level to junior workers in such establishments, cannot patronise the expensive food outlets. So their saving grace is just these food truck owners who sell good quality affordable meals, at reasonable prices.

On weekends, they take their food truck to different locations and exhibition areas, to sell food. They are planning to launch an online food catering business by end of this year. Everybody's vision is different.

We cannot all have the same approach to business. Do what works for you, and let the next person do what works for him.

What kills small businesses, is that most times the owners do not start small and learn all the intricacies of the business very well, before expanding it or taking on additional staff.

This lady selling food from a wheelbarrow will have more experience or success, running a cafeteria or restaurant, if she decides to scale up.

I bet, she already knows how many plates of cooked rice, she can get from one mudu or De Rica cup of raw rice. She knows how to source her ingredients faster, fresher and more economically than one big Madam who just opens a fancy restaurant with many cooks & waiters, because her husband funded it, in order to give her something to her name.

I respect this woman with the wheelbarrow, and I pray God changes her story to glory, one day!

2). How does one go about it?

3). On what kind of platforms can you publish your e-book or upload it for sales?

4). Where can one get training in e-book publishing and designs?

5). How does one fix the sale prices of such e-books?

I would appreciate your responses to these questions.

Ndi Igbo: Internal Slavery and the Misery of Man-made Woes.

By Dodoh Okafor

1. I have spent the last few days transversing 4 of the 5 states in Igboland and I can tell you for free: what I saw is very nasty, a sure sign of the dangers we are currently living with

2. I was stuck somewhere in Akabo- IKeduru LGA of Imo state yesterday on my way to Owerri. We spent 3 hours rooted to a particular spot. Not one car moved forward or backward, the few that attempted to had their car sunk on what has become a dead Sea in the middle of a major road.

3. This morning as I made my way to the park to go to another part of Imo, not one transport company had vehicles going through Okigwe. PMT drivers insisted that they would rather elect to be sacked than drive through Akabo enroute to Okigwe after their experiences in the last few days.

4. At ITC, the driver who elected to load Okigwe passengers after he learnt the nature of the road suddenly remembered that he had to "fix something in his car" and asked passengers to find another driver who can "try."

5. The road side motorists jacked the fares up by 1000% and even at that, not many were still willing to risk their vehicles at Akabo

6. I elected to go to Umuahia through the Mbaise route and suddenly, we found ourselves again stuck at Emekkuku. The story I shall complete subsequently.

7. On the Enugu - PH expressway, a truck fell yesterday at the Lokpa-Ukwu Cattle Market thereby creating another nightmarish experience for road users.

8. Aba roads are in their worst possible shapes right now and many in the city have since abandoned their cars.

9. The situation is not better in most parts of Anambra - bad roads creating hell for road users. Sadly, these are the roads our governors, senators and political and religious leaders ply on daily basis.

10. Across Igboland, there's very little going on in terms of productive economic ventures. What I find here is not hardwork but mindless suffering and misery.

From the little kids hawking all manner of consumables at every road junction to youths who have made it their business to rescue sunk vehicles at Akabo in exchange for a small amount, all I find here are a mass army ready to vent their frustrations at the slightest opportunity

11. I consider myself a humane person but I have a strong conviction that every governor that has every ruled Imo and Abia state in the last 20 years should be sent to the gallows and burnt at stake. How can a few individuals be so wicked and mean to their people?

12. I passed through the monuments of waste Rochas Okorocha built and designated general hospitals in most parts of Imo and one can't help wondering if Okorocha really had his mental faculties together when he embarked on such idiotic projects without a proper plan to make them functional.

13. Why was Okorocha so wicked to Ndi Imo? From building general hospitals no one will ever use to constructing roads that were washed away with the first flash of rain, destroying ITC to doing other despicable things to the collective patrimony of the Imo people, Okorocha showed himself to be the greatest political mistake Ndi Imo ever made

14. While Okorocha was a monumental tragedy in Imo, things were a lot worse for Ndi Abia with Okezie Ikpeazu, Theodore Orji and Uzor Kalu. The trio collectively sold Abia to their greed and turned a once vibrant state to the butt of beer parlour jokes.

15. Khaleb Ogbonna once posited that there's nothing in Emeka Ihedioha's past that points to a glorious future for Ndi Imo. He was very correct. What I saw in the few hours I spent in Imo left me in no doubt that Ihedioha may be a time waster.

16. Why are our governors not coming up with palliative measures to fix the roads- especially this rainy season? Why is flood over-running Aba even as Mr Ikpeazu's whereabouts remain shrouded in mystery? Where is Okezie Ikpeazu? Has he abandoned the office he debased himself to win?

17. For how long shall our people continue to hawk and sell "pure water" on the expressway? For how long shall we continue to suffocate under the stench that come from poor drainage systems, refuse dumps all over and other expressions of poor waste management systems?

18. Are you aware that in Imo and Abia, salaries are either paid in half (Imo) or not paid at all (Abia)? Why on earth should a governor withhold the salaries of thousands of hardworking men and women whose dependents now state became Imo and Abia have negligent and incompetent governors?

19. There's a war going on- a war that is clearly impoverishing and making Ndi Igbo slaves in their fatherland. The politicians are swallowing what belongs to you and I. Sadly, they have chained many with peanuts that no one is willing to challenge the madness going on in the name of governance.

20. I weep for Ndi Igbo. I weep for the wickedness that reigns in the heart of Igbo governors and leaders, I cry for the anguish and misery our people are passing through, I weep for the future and destinies being destroyed by the evil disposition of the men and women in influential positions in Igboland.

Will the Igbos ever rise again?

Make Buhari kee you dere
Hmmn....this is ample evidence of man's inhumanity to man. Where is the IPOB stoning crew? The former governors of Imo and Abia states, deserve to be stoned!
