Politics / ‘Forgive Buhari On Certificate': Lai Mohammed Blames PDP, Says Video "Doctored" by CGMedia: 10:21am On Sep 08, 2019
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said that the video of him begging Nigerians to forgive President Buhari over his WAEC results was "doctored", Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Mohammed came under attack on Friday, after a video where he was pleading with Nigerians to forgive the President over his controversial documents, surfaced online.

“Nigerians should please, pardon President Buhari over his (WAEC) certificate, he doesn’t know where he kept it, it's been over 53 years now since he finished secondary education”, Minister Lai said in the video sighted by Igbere TV, weekend.

But reacting to the trends in a statement obtained by Igbere TV on Saturday, the minister said "the video was doctored making it look like" he was "begging Nigerians to forgive the president."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttcI28iOhok

Full Statement,

”A pattern is emerging of the antics of the desperate opposition to latch on to the use of fake news and disinformation as a strategy to trigger chaos in the country.

“On Friday (6 Sept 2019), they doctored and circulated the video of my appearance on Channels Television on January 2015 (when I was the spokesman of the APC) to make it look like I was begging Nigerians to forgive President Buhari for not having a school certificate.

“Worse still, they posted the video afresh, giving the impression it happened last Thursday and that I acted in my capacity as Minister of Information and Culture.

”Unfortunately for them, this doctored video came out on the same day a report emerged that the PDP had sent lawyers and party agents to the University of Cambridge to confirm the authenticity of the President’s West African school certificate, only to be stunned to discover that not only did the President write the examination, he also passed.

“One would have expected a party that trumpets its belief in the rule of law, a party that challenged the result of the last presidential election in court, to wait patiently for the impending judgment on the issue instead of engaging in underhand tactics and resorting to self-help.

”This is just the beginning. Nigerians should expect an explosion of fake news and disinformation in the days and weeks ahead. This is because the desperation of this opposition is alarming. But their strategy will fail, just like every other dubious strategy that they have been employing in their desperate bid to grab power.”

Politics / Delta South: Uduaghan Reacts To Tribunal Judgment Sacking Manager As Senator by CGMedia: 10:33pm On Sep 07, 2019
Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the 2019 Delta South senatorial election, has reacted to the judgement of the Election Tribunal which sacked his rival, James Manager.

Reporters had earlier reported that the Tribunal, on Saturday, nullified the election of Manager of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as Senator representing Delta South in the National Assembly.

The Tribunal said the election was marred by irregularities and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return issued Senator James Manager immediately.

The three man panel presided over by Justice C. O. Onyaebo, in Asaba, the Delta State capital, equally ordered INEC to conduct a fresh election into the Delta South senatorial district within the period of 90 days.

But reacting in a statement obtained by reporters on Saturday, the former Governor of Delta State said the Tribunal should have declared him winner of the February 23 poll.

“While we are happy with the tribunal’s judgement which affirmed my party’s position that the election was rigged and characterized with electoral over voting, we are not entirely satisfied with the judgement as the tribunal ought to have deducted the excess illegal votes and declared me and my party rightful winner of the election.

“In view of this, we shall be challenging the tribunal’s judgement at the Appeal Court to declare us as the outright winner of the February 23rd, 2019 National Assembly Election for Delta South Senatorial District”, the statement partly read.

You may recall that Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan had dragged Senator James Manager to the Tribunal, arguing that the election was marred by fraud and irregularities.

Politics / Xenophobia: Oshiomhole Urges Nigerians to Boycott S’African Businesses by CGMedia: 6:25am On Sep 06, 2019
National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has called on Nigerians to boycott South African businesses in the country, Igbere TV reports.

This comes days after the deadly xenophobic attack on Nigerians and other foreigners in South Africa by the locals, in which five persons reportedly lost their lives.

Igbere TV had previously reported that properties worth millions of naira, belonging to Nigerians in South Africa, were set ablaze with many others looted by South Africans.

President of the Nigeria Union in South Africa, Comrade Adetola Olubajo, said the attacks began on Sunday morning in Jeppestown area of Johannesburg.

Olubajo said in a statement that the mob “looted several shops owned by foreign nationals”, “but the police later dispersed them and made some arrest”.

Speaking to newsmen after a meeting of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, Oshiomhole said the party was in support of any measures taken by the Presidency against the crisis.

He said Nigerians must boycott all South African goods and businesses, accusing the African National Congress (ANC) led administration in South Africa of backing the killings of Nigerians.

The APC national chairman wondered why it has been so difficult for the authorities to arrest and sentence perpetrators of the xenophobic attacks in the country.

Oshiomhole said, “Over the past few years and virtually every other week, Nigerians are being wasted in one part of South Africa or the other.

“We know that the federal government has had conversations with the South African authorities drawing their attention to these abuses but the escalation of the attacks on foreigners many of who are Nigerians have reached a level that is no longer tolerable.

“South African companies are making billions of dollars from the Nigerian economy year in year out and repatriate same out of Nigeria.

“MTN was recently in the stock market and some Nigerians bought shares but in a moment like this and in order to send a very strong message to South African authorities and the South African people, we call on Nigerians to boycott South African businesses.

“The federal government must also take urgent steps to take over the remaining shares of MTN that are owned by South Africa so that MTN becomes fully Nigeria owned”, he said.

The two-time Governor of Edo State also listed Shoprite, DSTV (Multi choice), Stanbic IBTC bank, Standard Chartered Bank, as well as South African airlines as few other South African businesses that must be boycotted by Nigerians in the coming days.

Politics / Sanwo-olu Commissions 492-flat Housing Estate, Named After Ex Governor (photos) by CGMedia: 6:00am On Sep 06, 2019
Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday commissioned a housing estate built and named after Alhaji Lateef Jakande, former governor of the state, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that the governor led members of the State Executive Council (SEC) to Igando, in Alimosho area of Lagos, to formally open the 492-flat project named after the first civilian governor.

Igbere TV gathered that the project started in 2012 under the administration of Babatunde Fashola, but was abandoned for four years until Sanwo-Olu took it up, upon assumption office.

At the event, which marked the commemoration of the Governor’s 100 days in office, Sanwo-Olu said his government’s move to complete the project was a testimony to his campaign pledge to complete and deliver all projects inherited from the last administration.

His words: “Today, history is being made as we commission a housing estate named after an icon, a role model and the first Executive Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande. Among his many sterling achievements, Alhaji Jakande’s indelible legacy in the provision of mass housing in Lagos still remains our guiding light.

“It is instructive to note that the completion and the official commissioning of Lateef Kayode Jakande Garden Estate in Igando today is a testimony to our resolve to deliver on the pledge to complete all critical projects inherited from the last administration.

“I am excited today because, within 100 days, this is the third time I am coming to this facility to ensure it is delivered and put into use. With the completion of the Estate, we have prevented government’s resources from being wasted.”

The governor noted that the deficit faced by the state in housing was real, stressing that there was a need for his administration to adopt a housing model that would harness limited space for delivery of safe home for the population.

“One of the key strategies we will embrace is a global housing policy in which people can become home owners through an inclusive and convenient financing system based on their incomes. This policy, along with outright purchase of houses built by government, will support a sustainable system in which homes are consistently made available to a larger number of our people”, he said.

For Lagos to turn around its deficit and attain 21st century economy, the governor said there was an urgent need to explore innovation and partnership with private investors to bridge the housing deficit.

He, therefore, urged the beneficiaries of the housing scheme to protect the facility and maintain its environmental aesthetics, always.

In his speech, Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, said the state government would deliver additional 1,250 home in different parts of the state within the next six months.

Fatai said: “Today’s inauguration of Jakande Garden Estate is the beginning of other housing projects coming. With sense of determination and unequivocal commitment to serve the public cause, we will like to assure Lagosians that, in the next six months, we shall work hard through proper planning and judicious execution to conclude the ongoing housing schemes in Igbogbo, Sangotedo, Iponri, Gbagada and Omole. This will add a total of 1250 homes to the existing figure.”

He said the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was poised to deliver livable accommodation with modern infrastructure, “in line with smart city programme of the state.”

The Commissioner, therefore, reiterated that the Lagos state government would continue to promote urban harmony and set new standards for property development.

Igbere TV reports that the event was attended by ex-Gov. Jakande, his wife, emissaries of Oba of Lagos, leaders of the APC led by Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) members; Prince Tajudeen Olusi, and Alhaji Mutiu Are.

Foreign Affairs / BREAKING: British PM, Boris Johnson’s Brother Resigns (pixs) by CGMedia: 3:17pm On Sep 05, 2019
Mr Jo Johnson, the younger brother of Prime Minister Boris Johnson, has resigned as an MP and minister, saying he is “torn between family loyalty and national interest”, Igbere TV reports.

The minister of State for Universities and Science, and MP for Orpington, Southeast London, cited an “unresolvable tension” in his role as reason behind his decision, in a tweet sighted by Igbere TV on Thursday.

“It’s been an honour to represent Orpington for 9 years & to serve as a minister under three PMs. In recent weeks I’ve been torn between family loyalty and the national interest - it’s an unresolvable tension & time for others to take on my roles as MP & Minister. #overandout”, he wrote.

A spokesman for Downing Street (Office of Boris Johnson), said the prime minister would like to thank Jo Johnson for his service. “He has been a brilliant, talented minister and a fantastic MP”, he said.

“The PM, as both a politician and brother, understands this will not have been an easy matter for Jo. The constituents of Orpington could not have asked for a better representative”, the spokesman added.

A former cabinet minister, David Gauke, who once lost to the MP, quoted the tweet and wrote; “Lots of MPs have had to wrestle with conflicting loyalties in recent weeks. None more so than Jo. This is a big loss to Parliament, the government and the Conservative Party.”

On her part, Labour’s shadow education secretary, Angela Rayner wrote: “Boris Johnson poses such a threat that even his own brother doesn’t trust him.”

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage said the resignation showed that the “centre of gravity in the Conservative party is shifting rapidly”.

But, in a tweet sighted by Igbere TV, Rachel Johnson, the sister of Boris and Jo Johnson, said “the family avoids the topic of Brexit, especially at meals, as we don’t want to gang up on the PM”.

Politics / Great Joshua Maclver Decamps To APC In Bayelsa by CGMedia: 11:59am On Sep 05, 2019
Bayelsa 2019: PDP Guber Aspirant Decamps To APC

An aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Bayelsa 2019 governorship election, Great Joshua Maclver, has decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Igbere TV reports.

This comes barely 24 hours after the PDP primaries, in which Mr Maclver lost to Senator Douye Diri, who emerged as the flag bearer of the party in the November 16 gubernatorial election.

According to Maclver, he is to join hands and form “great” alliance with Chief David Lyon, candidate of the APC in the Nov. 16 gubernatorial election, to “flush” the PDP out of Bayelsa.

In a letter obtained by Igbere TV and addressed to the ward chairman, Olodiama Ward 4, Yenogoa, the governorship aspirant described the reason for his decision as “strictly personal.”

He thanked the PDP for giving him the opportunity to be part of “a building process” from the Ward, Local Government level and the State at large.

Igbere TV reports that Maclver has since been received by ward chairman of the APC where he fulfilled all necessary requirements to register his membership with the party.

Politics / Sanwo-Olu Commissions School, Health Centre Built By RCCG (Photos) by CGMedia: 11:22pm On Sep 03, 2019
Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday commissioned a School Building and rehabilitated Health Centre built by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that the structures were donated to the Lagos state government by the RCCG Tabernacle of David, Lagos Province 46, as part of the church’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Speaking at the unveiling of the buildings, Sanwo-Olu said: “My administration is not going to walk away from its responsibility of catering for the educational needs of every child that is of school age. We will give our children the opportunity to attend quality schools that will not be too far away from them.”

Igbere TV reports that the governor said the state government would be hiring trained teachers to strengthen quality education all state-owned schools in Lagos.

He said his administration would spare no effort to expand quality teaching to pupils, disclosing that he had issued a directive to the Ministry of Education to recruit trained teaching personnel and provide vital resources that would strengthen quality education across all government’s schools.

“This morning, I gave a directive to the Commissioner for Education that all schools owned by the state government be equipped with well-trained teachers that will help us to deliver quality training to our children in line with development agenda of my administration.

“The charge to the Commissioner also involves the provision of basic resources that would strengthen our schools and empower them to deliver the desired results we envisage in education and manpower development.”

The Governor said his administration would remain open to corporate organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGO) and religious institutions for partnership that would be beneficial to all residents of the state.

He reiterated that the government under his leadership would not shirk its responsibility in providing necessary amenities to the citizens.

Sanwo-Olu praised RCCG for the intervention, which he described as a “progressive doctrine” from a religious institution. The Governor urged other religious bodies to take a cue from the RCCG’s intervention, stressing that government would make greater impacts with collaborations.

The Assistant Pastor in charge of Province 46 of the RCCG, Kayode Pitan, noted that the decision to embark on the projects was in response to dearth of basic education and healthcare facilities in the area.

He disclosed that the two projects gulped N180 million, pointing out that school, which has 12 blocks of classroom, was completed with N130 million; the church spent N50 million to rehabilitate and upgrade the services of the Primary Health Centre.

“The projects are part of the CSR of the Redeemed Christian Church of God to touch people’s lives by improving standard of living in our host communities, providing quality education and health in collaboration with the government. This is aimed at improving the physical and spiritual wellbeing within our host communities,” Pastor Pitan said.

Earlier, Governor Sanwo-Olu commissioned Eti-Osa Maternal and Child Centre, the eighth of its kind in the state, as residents trooped out to welcome him and members of his cabinet to the occasion.

Sanwo-Olu said the provision of the secondary health facility in Eti-Osa axis would reduce pressure on the Lagos Island General Hospital and save expectant mothers living in Ajah axis of the pain to travel a long distance for antenatal and post-natal care.

The Governor granted residents’ demand requesting the state government to build a General Hospital to complement the services of the maternity home, promising that the facility would be built close to the maternity home for efficient healthcare delivery.

Politics / Xenophobia: Ekweremadu Tells FG To Suspend Diplomatic Ties With South Africa by CGMedia: 7:56pm On Sep 03, 2019
Senator Ike Ekweremadu has condemned the attack on Nigerians in South Africa, calling on the federal government to cut ties with the South African government, Igbere TV reports.

Mr Olubajo said in a statement that the mob “looted several shops owned by foreign nationals”, adding that “the police later dispersed the mob and made some arrest.”

Reacting in a statement sighted by Igbere on his Facebook page, the former Deputy Senate President described the attack as barbaric and an act of ingratitude on the part of South Africans.

He berated the South African government for not taking a decisive step to end the attacks, which he said has led to loss of lives and properties of fellow Africans, especially Nigerians.

He said the actions of the South Africans defies the African brotherhood, while recalling the support Nigeria rendered the country during the apartheid era and independence struggle.

He, therefore, called on the African Union (AU) to immediately sanction South Africa, while calling on the federal government to cut diplomatic ties with the country until the safety of Nigerians were guaranteed.

Full Statement,

“I find the incessant xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other African nationals in South Africa very un-African, barbaric, and unparalleled acts of ingratitude. It is quite disturbing that the Government of South Africa has not taken decisive steps to end these attacks, which have led to wanton loss of lives and properties of fellow Africans, especially Nigerians.

“The attacks defy and desecrate everything African brotherhood stands for, especially for a country that gained freedom with the support, sweat, and sacrifice of fellow African nations among which Nigeria clearly stands out. The attacks have reached scary and desperate degrees and call for desperate actions on the part of Nigeria, other African nations, and the African Union.

“It will therefore not be out of place for the Federal Government to suspend diplomatic relations with SA until full assurance of safety of Nigerians and their properties in South African are secured, adequate compensation paid for the damages, and the perpetrators also brought to book.

“The African Union mist eise up to the occasion now. The AU could be reduced to an empty shell if law abiding African nationals cannot find peace and safety in a fellow African nation like South African, but are instead savaged by people who should be their brother’s keeper.

“The AU should therefore summon an emergency session to sanction South Africa; and a suspend from the Union for unprovoked acts of hostilities against fellow Africans whose countries fought for the freedom they enjoy today will not be out of place.”
