Crime / Re: Fraud: Another Nigerian Man, Temitayo, Bags 46 Months Jail Term In U.S. by CGMedia: 9:39pm On Aug 23, 2019

That was the first time the case was called in Court.

He was finally convicted this week.
Crime / Fraud: Another Nigerian Man, Temitayo, Bags 46 Months Jail Term In U.S. by CGMedia: 7:24pm On Aug 23, 2019
A 47-year-old Nigerian living in the United States, Mr Ayodeji Fatunmbi Temitayo, has been sentenced to 46 months in prison by the U.S government, Igbere TV reports.

This comes weeks after Mr Obinwanne Okeke, popularly known as Invictus Obi, was convicted for fraud by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Igbere TV learned that Temitayo was jailed for his role in a durable medical equipment (DME) scam in which $8 million was said to have been fraudulently made in the process.

Assistant Attorney General, Brian A. Benczkowski of the FBI Criminal Division, made this known in a statement obtained by Igbere TV on Friday from U.S. Justice Department’s website.

Igbere TV gathered that Temitayo was sentenced to 46 months in prison by U.S. District Judge, Christina A. Snyder of the Central District of California, who also ordered him to pay $1,076,893.15 in restitution.

The accused had pleaded guilty on May 8, 2019 to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Temitayo was charged along with 47-year-old Olufunke Ibiyemi Fadojutimi, living in California, and Maritza Elizabeth Velasquez, 44, of Las Vegas, Nevada.

As part of his guilty plea, Temitayo admitted that he and others paid cash kickbacks to patient recruiters and physicians for fraudulent prescriptions for DME, such as power wheelchairs.

“The 47-year-old and co-conspirators caused Lutemi Medical Supply (Lutemi), a DME supply company that he co-ran, to submit approximately $8.3 million in claims to Medicare, which resulted in the company being paid over $3.5 million.

“He further admitted that he was responsible for $2,090,434 in false and fraudulent claims for medically unnecessary DME and that as a result of his conduct, Medicare paid Lutemi a total of $1,076,893.

“In furtherance of this scheme, Temitayo and a co-conspirator wrote cheques from Lutemi’s bank account to Lutemi employees and others, and he instructed that those monies be returned to him to pay the illegal cash kickbacks to the patient recruiters and doctors, he admitted.

“He admittedly directed others at Lutemi to engage in these transactions to conceal the nature and source of the proceeds of the health care fraud conspiracy.” the statement partly read.

Similarly, Velasquez pleaded guilty on July 24 to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud, and was sentenced to 15 months in prison and restitution in the amount of $3,411,428.

Fadojutimi was found guilty after a jury trial on July 31 of one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud, seven counts of health care fraud and one count of money laundering, and was sentenced to four years in prison and restitution in the amount of $4,372,466.

“This case was investigated by the HHS-OIG, the FBI and IRS-CI. Trial Attorneys Claire Yan, Emily Z. Culbertson and Justin P. Givens of the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section are prosecuting the case.

“The Asset Forfeiture Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California is handling the asset forfeiture aspects of the case”, the statement added.

Politics / Dino Melaye Mocked By Nigerians Over Sack As Senator (photos) by CGMedia: 6:46pm On Aug 23, 2019
Nigerians have continued to mock Senator Dino Melaye over the news of his sack by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that Melaye representing Kogi West Senatorial District, was sacked by the Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Friday, August 23.

The Tribunal in an unanimous decision by a five-man panel, had accepted Smart Adeyemi’s petition and ordered for fresh election in the senatorial district.

Adeyemi, candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Feb. 23 election, had approached the tribunal challenging Melaye’s victory, citing irregularities, over-voting and non-compliance with the electoral acts.

The Kogi West Senator had reacted to the news earlier in a tweet sighted by Igbere TV on his handle @dino_melaye;

“On Tribunal judgement. No cause 4 alarm at all. Even if it went my way they will still go to the Appeal Court. Our mandate can not be taken. We will get judgment at the Appeal Court. There will be fresh election in Kogi West bc I will be Governor. For my Senate mandate no shaking”, he wrote.

But Nigerians have taking a swipe at the tweet, mocking the Senator who is currently seeking to govern his state under the Peoples Democratic Party.

Enugu State Governor, Mr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has inspected the ongoing demolition of caves and clearing of bushes used as hideouts by criminals, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that the governor gave an order for the immediate demolition of caves in Agwu forests and bush clearing around Umuogbua Ihe tunnel in the state.

Governor Ugwuanyi gave the directive when he visited the tunnel along Enugu-PortHarcourt Expressway by Awgu Local Government Area of the state, recently.

Igbere TV gathered that the affected tunnel and caves serves as a hideout and escape route for kidnappers and criminals operating in the area.

Ugwuanyi also visited the Ihe-Agbogugu-Ogbaku-Amurri and Isu-Awaa-Agbudu forests in the same local government area, ordering the immediate demolition of Agbogugu and Isu-Awaa-Agbudu caves to enhance the security of the areas.

While inspecting the ongoing construction of a military base along Enugu-PortHarcourt Expressway, the governor disclosed that a joint security patrol team will commence an extensive surveillance of the affected areas to ensure maximum security.

Speaking with Igbere TV, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, Secretary to Enugu State government, said the development was in line with the governor's commitment to expose all criminal elements in the state.

Prof. Ortuanya added that the clearing of forests from Four Corner-Ozalla-Udi road through Nvene River up to Obinagu junction in Udi Local Government Area of the state, had commenced.

“This exercise is consistent with the state government’s firm commitment to expose all hideouts of kidnappers and other criminal elements in the state”, he said.

“Residents of these areas and road users are advised to be cautious while plying the road”, the SSG added.

He revealed that the governor paid unscheduled visits to Agbudu Community in Awgu LGA and security checkpoints along Four Corner-Ozalla-Udi road, as well as Udi Forest, where he had interactions with the policemen on duty and some villagers.

A resident in the area, Okechukwu Nnamdi, while praising the state government for the steps taking so far to end criminal activities, called on the governor to extend the exercise to other parts of the state.

“Our governor is doing well so far, we are happy with him seeing what he is doing currently on issues concerning insecurity in the state.

“I enjoin him to please, extend these activities and exercise to other criminal hideouts in the state to rid Enugu of kidnapping and robbery”, he said.

Another resident who gave her name simply as Ife, hailed the governor for the various initiatives and proactive stance of the state government, and other stakeholders who ensure peaceful co-existence in the state.

On his part, Emeka Ezechi, while speaking with our correspondent, commended Governor Ugwuanyi for transforming different parts of the state, noting that the governor is working to make Enugu habitable for all.

“I am pleased and happy as the state has great prospects with 'Gburu-Gburu' on the saddle of leadership”, he added.

A yet-to-be identified little girl was allegedly beaten to death by her father in Akure, Ondo State capital, on Wednesday, Igbere TV has learnt.

Igbere TV gathered that the child was rushed to the children emergency ward of the Ondo State hospital, Akure, where she was confirmed dead.

A resident and social activist who shared the story with our correspondent, said he received a distress call about the ugly incident in his area.

He, however, disclosed that the suspect had ran away with the corpse before his arrival at the hospital, even without documentation.

“I was just called that a little child was allegedly beaten to death by the father. Unfortunately the corpse was taken away immediately from state hospital Akure children emergency room. I am going to make further enquires. This is so disheartening.

“I have reached out to the doctor on duty, he said the woman who brought the child to the hospital grabbed the corpse and ran out of the hospital immediately the child was certified dead. She was not documented before she left. If anyone knows the baby, please call my attention”, he said.

Efforts to reach the Ondo State Police Spokesman, DSP Femi Joseph, for comments were unsuccessful. He was yet to reply text messages sent to his phone as at press time.

“The raid is part of an on-going investigation into the activities of the former governor while in office,” Orilade said.

“The residence of the former governor’s chief of staff in the same Epe neighbourhood was also searched.

“Both the former governor and his chief of staff are currently under corruption probe”, the EFCC Spokesman added.

The raid is coming a few months after Ambode left office. The former governor had fallen out with his godfather, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ahead of the party’s primaries which saw Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu succeeding him.

Billions of naira were allegedly misappropriated in the four years of Mr Ambode’s reign, and detectives have been busy trying to untangle all webs around the alleged corruption.

Igbere TV recalls that about two weeks ago, multiple bank accounts holding billions and linked to Mr Ambode were frozen by the EFCC as part of the probe.

Also, the Lagos State House of Assembly had in January during the end of its tenure threatened to impeach Ambode for allegedly spending funds which were not appropriated.

The former governor is currently outside the country as at the time the EFCC stormed his residence on Tuesday.

Igbere TV had reported that staff of the Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, Monday, took to the streets to protest the non-payment of their salaries and leave allowances.

No fewer than 200 of the workers, barricaded the gate to the council headquarters, displaying placards, some of which read, ‘We have not received our leave allowances for 2014, 2018, 2019’, ‘NFIU should come and rescue us. Our salaries not being paid by Abia govt’.

Politics / Ekweramadu: No IPOB Member Was Arrested By German Authorities - Nnamdi Kanu by CGMedia: 10:37pm On Aug 18, 2019
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has said that no member of the group was arrested by German authorities, Igbere TV reports.

Kanu stated this while addressing supporters of the group during a live broadcast on Radio Biafra monitored by Igbere TV, on Sunday.

He was reacting to a statement credited to Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, who earlier made the allegations.

Dabiri-Erewa claims comes on the heels of the attack on former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu by members of IPOB in Germany, on Saturday.

But reacting in the broadcast monitored by Igbere TV, Kanu described the report as false, maintaining that no member of the group was ever arrested.

The IPOB leader added that the German authorities were more civilized, unlike what he said was obtainable in ‘the zoo.’

“It is a pure lie ‘from the zoo’, none of our member was ever arrested by the German authorities, and none will be arrested”, Kanu said.

He described the attack on Senator Ekweremadu by the IPOB as “courageous”, while sending a note of warning to Governors in the South East region.

Politics / IPOB: Nnamdi Kanu Places N1m Bounty On All Igbo Governors by CGMedia: 8:51pm On Aug 18, 2019
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has placed a N1 million bounty on all the governors in the South East region, Igbere TV reports.

This was announced by leader of the group, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, during a worldwide broadcast on the IPOB official Facebook page, on Sunday.

Igbere TV reports that the affected governors are Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Willie Obiano (Anambra).

The announcement comes barely 24 hours after Senator Ike Ekweremadu, immediate past Deputy Senate President, was attacked by members of IPOB in Germany, on Saturday.

Kanu had earlier praised the act of his members, while sending a note of warning to the governors and Chief Nnia Nwodo, President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

This is even as the IPOB issued a directive to its members across the world to attack the South East governors anywhere they are seen.

“Any informant with useful information about the presence and whereabout of any (South East) Governor in Europe or America will be rewarded with N1 million”, Nnamdi Kanu said.

Politics / Senator Ali Ndume Reacts To Attack On Ekweremadu By IPOB by CGMedia: 12:04pm On Aug 18, 2019
A former Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, has reacted to the attack on Senator Ike Ekweremadu by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that the immediate past Deputy Senate President was attacked and disgraced by aggrieved members of the IPOB at an event in Germany, on Saturday.

Reacting in a statement made available to Igbere TV on Sunday, the former Senate President aspirant, condemned the attack on the Enugu West Senator.

He said the IPOB members attacked one of the “greatest heroes” in Nigeria, while consoling Ekweremadu.

“Ekweremadu is not the person they ought to attack and indeed they have to stop such attack on anybody for that matter,” Ndume said.

Politics / PDP Reacts To Attack On Ekweremadu By IPOB In Germany by CGMedia: 11:52am On Aug 18, 2019
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the attack on Senator Ike Ekweremadu by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that the immediate past Deputy Senate President, a member of the PDP, was petted with stones by aggrieved members of the IPOB at an event in Germany, on Saturday.

Reacting in a statement sent to Igbere TV on Sunday, the National Vice Chairman of the PDP in the South-East, Austin Umahi, squarely condemned the attack.

Umahi frowned at the action of the group against Ekweremadu who he said has been at the forefront of the struggle against the marginalisation of Ndi-Igbo.

He urged the Senator not to be discouraged by the act but to see it as one of the many sacrifices he has to pay in pursuit for justice and better treatment for Ndi-Igbo within and outside the country.

He, therefore, called for the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of the attack.

The PDP scribe, however, advised any individual or group that has any genuine reason to agitate, to do so, through the South-East Governors Forum, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other legitimate means within Nigeria; rather than resorting to self help.

Politics / Panic, As London Set To Probe Buhari’s Cambridge Certificates (pixs) by CGMedia: 11:23am On Aug 18, 2019
There is panic in Aso Rock following the move by the London Metropolitan Police Service to investigate the authenticity of the Cambridge documents tendered by President Muhammadu Buhari during the Presidential Election Tribunal hearing, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that the move follows a petition against the Police Commission by some Concerned Citizens of Nigeria in London.

In the petition obtained by Igbere TV on Saturday, Abba Kyari, the President’s Chief of Staff, was also listed for his role in obtaining the documents from the Cambridge University, London.

Igbere TV recalls that the opposition PDP candidate in the February 23 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, and his party had questioned the admissibility of the certificate.

The petition, dated August 14, 2019, was forwarded to our correspondent via mail by Kalu Agu, SAN, a legal practitioner and ally of the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

In the mail, Agu questioned the authenticity of the “certifying statement” said to have been obtained from the Cambridge Assessment International Education.

“Where did Mr. Abba Kyari get the certificate which he enclosed alongside his application form for the issuance of the said certifying statement which he claimed he procured from Cambridge Assessment International Education,” the lawyer argued.

“Whether Mr Abba Kyari as an individual can apply for the said certifying statement not being an academic institution or an employer of the candidate.

“Whether the said certifying statement can be delivered to Mr Abba Kyari by hand as he claimed he signed and personally collected same by hand in the UK.

“Evidence of the said application and of the candidate’s authorisation to the Cambridge Assessment International Education for the release of the said certifying statement to Mr Abba Kyari.”

He added that “in the circumstance that the certifying statement is found to be forged, it will be of great service to both Nigeria and the United Kingdom that Mr. Abba Kyari is arrested and arraigned in a court of competent jurisdiction for forgery.”

Igbere TV gathered that the petitioner, Kalu Agu, also sent a copy of the petition to the Department of State Services (DSS) for action.

Both the PDP and the APC have closed their cases at the tribunal, waiting for the court’s decision on the actual winner of the Feb 23 presidential election of which INEC declared Buhari as winner.

Politics / How I Escaped Being Killed By Boko Haram, Got Paid N40,000 Only — Gold Medalist by CGMedia: 7:42pm On Aug 15, 2019
Gold Medalist, Onwuka Forced to Travel by Road to Represent Nigeria, Shot by B’Haram (Photos)

Nigerian gold medalist, Kalu Eke Onwuka, from Abia State, has lamented what he described as unfair treatment from the President Muhammadu Buhari led federal government, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Onwuka, a recipient of several gold medals, said he was forced to travel by land (instead of air) to represent Nigeria in an all-important game in neighboring Niger.

He also alleged that officials of the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development deleted his name from the list of contingents to represent Nigeria in the Morocco All African Games 2019.

Onwuka, who had represented the country in several competition, won a gold medal in Niger during the recently held ECOWAS senior championship in Discos.

This is even as the Nigerian champion, popularly called 'Scorpion', missed out in the shot put as a result of his late arrival after being forced to take the road.

Speaking with Igbere TV in Umuahia, on Wednesday, the gold medalist expressed regret that after risking his life from Kaduna to Niger to represent the country, where he won a medal, he was delisted for the games in Morocco.

He said he left Niger at about 5am by road, adding that he and other athletes were shot by gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists, on their way back before they finally arrived Nigeria at about 11pm.

Onwuka who has been throwing shot put since 2012 said he has won several medals for the country in many local and international sporting events, expressing dissatisfaction with the unfair treatment meted to him by his fatherland.

His words,
“On the 7th of July, 2019, I attended the National Camp Kaduna, where Nigeria played for the All African Games qualifiers.

“On the 25th (July), the Coaches brought us to represent Nigeria in far away Niger but we were not taken care of. We went through road instead of flying amid fears of Boko Haram terrorists, Herdsmen.

“Unfortunately, I missed the event. It was a sad one and annoying experience. When I returned to Nigeria, I discovered that my name was no longer among the players for the All African Games holding in Morocco.

“After I missed the (shot put) event in Niger, I switched to Discos to represent Nigeria where I won a gold medal.

“We left Niger as early as 5am by road and arrived Nigeria at about 11, 12 midnight using land transport and a rickety bus.

“On our way back, we encountered some heavily armed men who tried stopping our vehicle but the driver refused to stop. They shot at our vehicle severally but we managed to escape unhurt, with minor injuries.

“We were about nine athletes in the vehicle, no official of the Ministry (of Sports) nor Health Worker was with us, neither did we have any emergency response team.

“We were given forty thousand naira (N40,000) allowance each, which served as our transport fare to and fro Kaduna to Niger. That is the only allowance given to all athletes till date.

“I really feel bad that after risking my life to and fro Niger and despite my outing and performance, I was delisted for the All African Games 2019 holding in Morocco.

“I don't have anybody in the Ministry (of Youths and Sports Development), I have been playing and defending Nigeria since 2012.

“I have won several awards and many gold medals for the country. I just want the right thing to be done. I want the authorities to come to my aid, I really want to participate in the games and defend my country”,
he added.
