Politics / Wike Places Children Of Kenneth Eze Elemele On Scholarship by CGMedia: 8:52pm On Jul 20, 2019
Rivers State Governor, Barr. Nyesom Wike has established an Educational Trust Fund to train the four children of late Colonel Ken Elemele, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Col. Elemele, from Rivers, is among the soldiers who fell in a Boko Haram ambush between Yobe and Borno last Wednesday.

The fallen hero, Igbere TV gathered, was the Chief of Staff to 29 Task Force Brigade until his demise.

Governor Wike, while expressing sadness over the incident, said the Education Trust Fund will take off with an initial seed money of N30million.

He described the death of Late Colonel Elemele as a sad loss to Rivers State and the country in general.

Speaking during a condolence visit to the Family on Saturday in Port Harcourt, Governor Wike who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo said that the Rivers State Government will stand with the family.

“This is a sad loss of an illustrious son of Rivers State. We were expecting the emergence of another General before this unfortunate incident”, Governor Wike said.

“Please accept my personal condolence and that of the good people of Rivers State. The Rivers State Government shares this grief with the family. We will stand with you through this period.”

The Governor prayed God to console the widow and her children, saying that only God can fill the gap created by the sudden death of Late Ken Elemele.

“We urge you to put your trust in God. Be strong for your children. God will always support you at this time”, he said.

He said the Rivers State Government will be in touch with the family to ensure that their immediate needs are taken care of.

Politics / NNPC Flowstation Shut Down In Delta By Angry Indigenes (Photo) by CGMedia: 3:58pm On Jul 20, 2019
Batan flow station in OML 42, has been shut down by angry indigenes of Diebiri and Batan Communities in Delta State, Igbere TV reports.

Batan is operated by the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, a subsidiary of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

Igbere TV gathered that the residents shut down the flow station to protest Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s “lopsided appointment” into the Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC.

Speaking with our correspondent, the protesters accused the state Deputy Governor, Kingsley Otuaro of ‘cornering’ the DESOPADEC’s appointment slot for his cronies in Gbaramatu Kingdom.

This, they said, is an “outright disregard to production quantum and the people of Diebiri Kingdom”, who claims it is their turn to produce the next member representing Ijaw nation in the oil commission.

Politics / Abia Assembly Slams Ikpeazu’s Govt Over ‘Environmental Decay’, Summons ASEPA by CGMedia: 1:27pm On Jul 10, 2019
In what could be described as a move against the Okezie Ikpeazu led Abia State Government, the Abia State House of Assembly has summoned Hon. Victor Apugo, the General Manager of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, ASEPA and Chief Rowland Nwakanma, the Deputy General Manager, Aba zone to appear before it on Wednesday.

This followed a motion raised by member representing Umuahia North State Constituency, Hon. Kelechi Onuzuruike during Tuesday's plenary on alleged poor waste management in Umuahia and Aba by the agency.

Supporting the motion, member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Jerry Uzosike said the agency had been generating much revenue for the state government but hadn't done “the needful.”

But some members of the State Assembly have disagreed with the House, alleging that the Speaker plan on using the agency to settle “scores” with the state government.

Igbere TV reports that the Abia Assembly is headed by Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji (Ikuku) as Speaker. Orji is son of former governor of the state, Senator T. A. Orji.

A lawmaker of the Abia Assembly, who craved anonymity, said that the speaker is believed to have governorship ambition in 2023.

“Mr. Speaker has a personal interest in this issue. From what we have observed so far, it's not just about the said refuse but some personal issues with the governor.

“I think the issue started right from when he declared intentions to contest the Speakership position.”

On his part, a lawmaker from Abia Central, said his colleagues from the said Aba Constituency refused to contribute to the motion when it was brought to the House because they are also aware of the issues.

“You see, when my colleague raised the motion and made mention of Aba, our colleagues from the zone never contributed to it because they too are aware of the politics they are trying to play.”

He alleged that lawmakers from Umuahia had cause to contribute to the motion because they had been ’sorted out' by sponsors of the motion.

Another lawmaker, who did not want his name mentioned, lamented what he described as witch-hunting on the part of the Assembly, saying, “the governor had assured the House, last week, of maximum cooperation and support when he also promised to procure new trucks for the agency.”

“The issue of refuse is not the main thing, I have asked my colleagues not to hide under ‘oversight function’, in fighting the state government.

“Remember we (the House) had passed a bill which permits ASEPA to generate funds for the state government. The House leadership is angry that the agency had not regarded them since the bill was successfully passed.”

Contacted by Igbere TV, an official of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, ASEPA, dismissed the notion that the agency had not lived up to its responsibilities.

He accused the Abia State Assembly of being insincere, alleging that the House leadership had wanted some “favours” from the agency.

“That is not true. You can see things for yourself, I believe you are a journalist and know what is right.

“We know what is going on, at the right time, we all we speak. But I assure you, we will never succumb to their threats and pressures.”

He assured that ASEPA led by Hon. Victor Apugo, would always stand by the people and do what is right, insisting that “the agency has always lived up to its responsibilities.”

Foreign Affairs / Minister Of Education Resigns Over Corruption Verdict by CGMedia: 8:34pm On Jul 09, 2019
Namibia’s Minister of Education Arts and Culture, Mrs Katrina Hanse-Himarwa, has resigned, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV gathered that her resignation followed a guilty verdict delivered by the country's High Court against her.

Shee tendered her letter of resignation on Tuesday.

The High Court on Monday found Mrs Hanse-Himarwa guilty of corruption and corruptly using her office to enrich herself.

She reportedly used her position to unlawfully place some of her relatives on a list of housing beneficiaries under the country’s mass housing initiative.

President of Namibia, Hage Geingob, has since accepted her resignation.

A source in the presidency said she would have been sacked, “in line with the country's stance against corruption”, assuming she hadn't resigned.

“I understand the seriousness of the conviction and I am mindful of the president’s strong views on transparency and accountability,” part of the letter read.

Politics / CAN Reacts As FG Suspends RUGA Programme by CGMedia: 10:03pm On Jul 07, 2019
The Southern States’ chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has reacted to the suspension of the controversial RUGA settlement plan by the Federal Government, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that the Federal Government had over the week, suspended the programme following public outcry.

Reacting in a statement made available to Igbere TV Sunday night, CAN cautioned Southern Nigerians to “remain vigilant even with the suspension of the controversial RUGA settlement for Fulani herdsmen.”

The statement was signed and issued by Secretary of CAN in the 17 Southern States, Dr. Joseph Ajujungwa.

Ajujungwa, who said the suspension of the programme by President Muhammadu Buhari may not be its end, said “though it (FG) claimed that it has been suspended the programme, the underground work is still going on.”

He called on every Southerner “to be watchful”, stressing that “even as we pray, we don’t need to keep quiet; they are experts in underground work.”

Speaking on giving out lands to herders, the CAN scribe said, “We do not have land to give to anybody as a grazing field or colony and we call on the South East governors to maintain their stand that they do not have such a place. Do you know what it means to give 10 hectares of land to herdsmen? We say no to that.”

“As CAN, we will preach it from our pulpit, every Imam should peach from the mosque and the traditionalists should stand against it; nobody should relent; no land should be given; any traditional ruler that does that should be dethroned.

“In the North, we have largest hectares of land, very vast that nobody is occupying. Why are they not building the ranches, Ruga of whatever there? They can come here, take grass and go, and we buy cow in exchange, just like the governors said. We do not have such mass land required.”

“We are also calling on the Federal Government to be mindful of what they are doing because cattle rearing is a private farming business. Why should the government support individual cattle farmers against other farmers?”

Politics / AFCON 2019: Sanwo-Olu Speaks On Funding FG’s Delegation To Egypt With $450m by CGMedia: 9:22pm On Jul 07, 2019
Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has denied withdrawing $470 million from the state treasury to sponsor Federal Government's AFCON delegation to Egypt, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Sanwo-Olu, Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and a host of others, had on Saturday stormed Egypt to watch the Super Eagles play Cameroon at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The match, which was monitored closely by Igbere TV, ended with a 3:2 win, with Nigeria qualifying for the next round.

The Lagos State chapter of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, had alleged that Governor Sanwo-Olu personally sponsored the trip with Lagos government money, on behalf of the federal government.

Reacting, however, the governor in a statement issued to Igbere TV by his Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, described the story as “fake news.”

He said the governor only flew to Egypt as a delegate of the federal government, while calling on the PDP’s spokesman to “always fact-check before putting pen on paper.”

Full Statement,

“Out attention has been drawn to a press statement by Lagos State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) claiming that the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu withdrew the sum of $470m to take himself and some persons including APC Chieftains to watch the Nigeria-Cameroon match at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

“There is nothing farther to the truth than this statement, which follows the same pattern of falsehoods usually dished out to the public by the PDP and its mouthpiece.

“For the avoidance of doubt, His Excellency Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu did not make any withrawal for the purpose of attending the AFCON in Egypt.

“It is a public knowledge that Mr. Sanwo-Olu was named among some other dignitaries to attend the ongoing African football fiesta in Egypt.

“Members of the Federal Government delegation to AFCON 2019 are Dr. Ahmed Lawan, as leader of the delegation, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha.

“Governors nominated and approved by President Muhammadu Buhari are His Excellency Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State.

“Also on the list are Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Mr. Habu Gumel, and a Representative of the Presidency; Captain Hosa Okunbo.

“The Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, Olusade Adesola, and Muhammad Gambo, the ministry’s Director of Facilities, are also members of the delegation, which include a former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, to complete the 11-man list.

“Is it not laughable therefore that PDP will resort to issuing press statements based on fake news on social media? Does it not stand logic on its head to allege that Governor Sanwo-Olu spent $470m to fund a trip that he was nominated as a delegate?

“As we have always stated, we will again suggest to the Lagos state PDP and her spokesman to always fact check before putting pen on paper. Opposition politics is not built on lies and fake news.”

Crime / 400 Level AAU Medical Student Shot Dead (Disturbing Photos) by CGMedia: 6:04pm On Jul 07, 2019
A 400 level medical student of the Edo State owned Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has been shot dead, Igbere TV reports.

The victim identified simply as Timothy, was said to have been killed at his off campus residence in Ekpoma.

Though details of the incident was still sketchy as at press time, our source, however, hinted that it may not be unconnected with cult related clash.

According to our source, who is also an AAU student, Timothy was murdered today, July 7, “a day dreaded by all.”

“7/7 (July 7) of every year is very popular amongst students, being a day set aside by members of secret groups to celebrate ...

“I believe his death may have something to do with today's event. As we speak, there are parties everywhere in town. Shop owners are already shutting down and students staying away from town due to fear that there may be reprisal attacks tonight.”

But a course mate of the deceased, who pleaded anonymity, argued that the victim is a lover of peace who ‘cannot even kill a fly.’

“All I know is that he (the victim) was all loving, very respectful and nice person.

“He was one of the nicest persons I have ever met. He is in my department (medicine). He doesn't look for trouble and he runs away from any negativity. He doesn't even have time for irregularities..

“He was that good and his death still remains a misery to us all and I pray he is accepted into God’s kingdom,” he added.

Similarly, a former hostel mate of the murdered student, insisted that the deceased could not have harmed anyone.

“I don't think so, Timothy is very responsible, funny and relate with everyone well when we lived in the same hostel. He moved over a year ago so we only talk on WhatsApp once a while.

“I only heard he was shot in his hostel this morning, my friend who is his colleague says tomorrow he will find out out what actually happened.”

He, however, directed us to a female student simply identified as Liliet, whom he described as the late student's “bestie.”

She, however, declined comments when our correspondent reached out to her for reactions.

“Please leave me alone, he (Timothy) doesn't deserve all this. So please leave me alone, I can't say anything. No one deserves to be talked about this way,” she declared.

Efforts to reach the University's Dean of Students, Prof Don Akhilomen, for comments were unsuccessful.

When contacted by Igbere TV, Spokesman for the Edo State Police Command, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, said he was not aware of such incident.

He, however, promised to get in touch with the police in Ekpoma, but was yet to get in touch with us as at the time of filing this report.

Politics / FG Launches Register For Rapists, Sex Offenders (see How It Works) by CGMedia: 12:39pm On Jul 07, 2019
The Federal Government has concluded plans to launch a Sex Offender Register to keep record of rapists and perpetrators of other forms of vices in the country, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV gathered that the initiative is aimed at naming and shaming such persons, no matter how placed they are in the society.

According to the Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Mrs. Julie Okah, she said the implementation of the register is aimed at putting an end to all forms of violence against persons in private and public life.

In a statement made available to Igbere TV by the NAPTIP boss, she added that the initiative, once implemented, would provide maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishment of offenders.

She intimated of plans to share information gathered through the register to embassies, companies and the general public, in a bid to pass a strong message to potential offenders.

“The spate of this mindless abuse of children, rape and other forms of violence against persons has assumed an alarming dimension and concerted efforts must be made to minimise the development.

“By the end of this month (July), we are going to be launching the sex offenders register. This register is going to name and shame all the rapist in Nigeria.

“We are also going to share the information with all the embassies, offices where people are likely to apply for jobs, sensitive offices where rapists and paedophiles should never be seen working.

“At the time we begin to name and shame them, I believe that it will send a strong message to those who are planning to rape and they will desist from that heinous crime,” the statement read in part.

Mrs Okah concluded by adding that “these crimes can be prosecuted irrespective of the time”; and urged rape victims to speak up and get their offenders punished.

Politics / Assault: Police To Arraign Senator Abbo On Criminal Charges by CGMedia: 11:29am On Jul 07, 2019
Following his invitation and subsequent release by police authorities a few days ago, Senator Elisha Abbo is set to be arraigned in court on criminal charges this week, Igbere TV has learnt.

Igbere TV reports that Senator Abbo had come under fire following his assault on a nursing woman at an adult toy shop in Abuja.

Sources within the force headquarters, Abuja, while confirming the development said the Senator’s woes were already compounded after admitting he committed the offence.

Igbere TV recalls that Abbo had last week admitted to the offence, while apologizing to the assault victim in a press conference.

Igbere TV gathered that the police would have arraigned him on Friday but for an attempt to retrieve the original footage of the video from the intimacy gadget shop where the incident occurred.

According to our source, a high ranking officer, the shop owner was outside Abuja attending a wedding when the police invitation got to her.

It was, however, learnt that police detectives had been able to establish a prima facie case against the lawmaker, as at press time.

Apart from the evidence deduced from the video, which showed Abbo repeatedly slapping his victim for intervening in an argument between him and the shop owner, other evidence has been established against him.

A source within the police confirmed that the Senator would be in court to show that police does not tolerate gender violence in any form regardless of the social status of the perpetrator.

The police further issued a statement saying, “Our preliminary investigation has indicted the senator and the plan was to arraign him on Friday for assault but the detectives were not able to obtain the original video from the CCTV which we needed to vet to ensure that it had not been manipulated. So, the arraignment would hold this week.”

Igbere TV recalls that the Senate had last Wednesday, condemned the Senator for allegedly assaulting the woman in the Wuse area of Abuja on May 11.

The red chamber subsequently set up an ad hoc committee headed by a former governor of Ebonyi State, Sam Egwu, to probe the action of the Peoples Democratic Party Senator.

The embattled senator, who represents Adamawa North in the Senate, allegedly slapped the woman following a brief argument.

The viral video footage had generated outrage among Nigerians with activists marching to the Force Headquarters and the National Assembly to demand Abbo’s prosecution for assault.

In a post obtained by Igbere TV, the Vice-Principal, Mr. Adeniji Emmanuel Sunday, described the student as a ‘good-for-nothing’ boy.

We identified the student as one Marley Kesh via his Facebook profile.

Mr. Sunday had threaten to block all his “underaged followers” on the platform over the disrespectful chat.

He wrote;

“It is very easy to know a child from a bad home. Such a child has no respect for his parents at home and his teachers at school. If the opportunity is available, he beats them up. But the end of such a child is a total disaster.

“As a teacher, I relate well with my students. The responsible ones know this and they respect me for it. It is very true that out of every 12 there must be one Judas. The boy you are looking at here is one of such good-for-nothing boys.

“This evening I got his message: ‘dis man how far?’ I thought it wa a message sent by mistake to me. He replied in the affirmative: ‘yes o wetin happen we no dey for school ooo.’ You can see the attached message. He goes by the name Marley Kesh. All underaged friends on my friends list shall be blocked. How will you describe him?.”

Religion / Pastor Adeboye Reacts To Coza’s Rape Saga by CGMedia: 7:40am On Jul 06, 2019
General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has reacted to the rape allegations levelled against the Senior Pastor of the CommonWealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that wife of singer Timi Dakolo, Busola, had in an interview with YNaija, accused Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of raping her when she was 17.

Although, the clergyman has since denied the allegation and also stepped aside as senior pastor of his church following public outcry.

Speaking at the RCCG’s monthly all night service which held at the camp ground along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, yeterday, Pastor Adeboye said;

“We have a President in PFN as well as in CAN. Whatever they say is what I have said. But I feel compelled to say somethings to those of us who are young and upcoming Ministers of God. Everything I will say is from the bible so if you wnat to criticise what I have said, you have to criticise the bible.

“Number 1, it is written, there is hidden that shall not come to the open, Mark 4:22. It doesn’t matter how long you think you have done something and that it is covered and it will never come to the open, then you can go and throw away your bible because the one who said there is nothing hidden that will not come to the open is the truth himself. Jesus Christ. Nothing hidden that will not be made manifest.

“Number 2: Sooner or later, according to Number 32verses 23, your sin will find you out. It is sure. If you have given your life to Jesus Christ, the blood of Jesus will wash away all your sins but after you gave your life to Jesus, you continue in sin, under the guise of grace, as the Lord lives, your sin will find you out.

“Number 3: The bible says you must abstain from every appearance of evil, 1st Thess 5 verses 22. The elders say what you are not going to eat, don’t smell. Avoid every appearance of evil. Avoid it.

“Number 4: The bible says if the devil comes to you face to face, it says resist the devil and he will flee from you. 2nd Tim 2: 22, when you find yourself facing useful lust, the bible says Flee which means run as a terror. When you see a sister smiling at you in a funny way, run. Run! Don’t say I am a great man of God and I am highly anointed. They will say I am old fashion. I agree. That is what they called me when I said I will never have a private secretary who is a woman. No! My private secretary has to be a man. Listen to me my brothers, when a woman accuses you of something, nobody is going to listen to you. Nobody! They will listen to the woman. When you demand for a witness, the lady will reply ‘do they invite people to such things?’. When you say how can it be me, everybody will say how come it is you that she has mentioned? of all the men?. I am old fashioned. I was ordained in 1975. It is better to be old fashioned and live than to be modern and die.”

Meanwhile, Igbere TV reports that the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have both distanced themselves from Fatoyinbo, saying he is not their member.

This was contained in a statement made available to Igbere TV by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, on Friday, in Abuja.

Issa-Onilu said “the approval was given after a meeting of the NWC on Friday where a formal request from the Kogi State executive and stakeholders in preference for the Indirect Primary was considered and deliberated on.”

He said “the APC Constitution which was reemphasized by a decision of National Executive Committee (NEC) provides for three mode of primary election to elect Party candidates – Indirect, Direct Primaries and Consensus – depending on the peculiarities of the state and preferences of the stakeholders in respective elections.”

Meanwhile, the APC Spokesman told Igbere TV that “the Party's timetable for the sales of forms and conduct of primaries will be announced in due course.”

The Kogi State Governorship election has been fixed for November this year, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Igbere TV reports.

The incumbent Governor, Yahaya Bello is seeking to return on the APC platform, while Senator Dino Melaye of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is his major challenger.

Melaye has since obtained his nomination form, vowing to unseat Governor Bello at the polls.

Celebrities / Nollywood Actress Accusses Popular MC Of Rape (photos) by CGMedia: 12:47pm On Jul 04, 2019
Nollywood actress, Simbee Davis has accused MC Galaxy of rape, Igbere TV reports.

Davis said the controversial MC raped her far back 2010.

This comes on the heels of Busola Dakolo’s rape allegations against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of CommonWealth of Zion Assembly (COZA).

Just like Fatoyinbo, MC Galaxy has since denied the allegation.

In a post on her Instagram page which was obtained by Igbere TV, the actress described MC Galaxy as “another rapist walking free”.

The Calabar born model said she met Galaxy so he could teach her how to dance and they hooked up somewhere he claimed to be her sister’s place where he perpetrated the evil act at knife point.

She further claimed the singer forced her to use Postinor 2 after raping her.

Davis wrote,

“It was at Mount Zion road, calabar, Cross River State, 2009/2010, he was just a dancer then.

“I had earlier asked him to teach me dancing, which he obliged me, after several interactions he finally asked me to come meet him somewhere so we could begin practice, I was excited and I went, on reaching there, he said the room belonged to his sister that she permitted him to teach me there, I was thrilled.

“After rehearsals, I thanked and bade him goodbye, when I got to the exit I noticed the door was locked and the key was removed.

“I turned to ask him why he had locked and remove the key, when I looked at him, his face had changed into something else, it was as if a demon had entered him, that was the scariest look I’ve ever seen, there he was, standing with a small knife.

“He asked me to take off my clothes else he could kill me and lock me in and no one would know where I am, he was right, cos I didn’t tell anyone who he was, so I started crying and begging him but it made him more aggressive, I finally took off my clothes.

“He had his way and came inside me, when he finished he took me to a pharmacy that was on the opposite side of the road, bought postinor 2 and water and made sure I took it in front of him, then he left. I couldn’t go home cos my brother would know something was wrong and I was too frightened and embarrassed to say anything, so I went to a friend’s place. When I got there she asked what had happened to me and I stood there still for a while and after much persuading I told her the story, she immediately started making calls and said she was going to deal with him, she organized boys to go beat him up and asked me to call him and act as if I wasn’t angry at him, so I could get his location.

“I did but I think he saw through it cos he knew he had done a bad thing. That was how he escaped till today. Today I’m not afraid anymore, I have found my voice. @mcgalaxymcg did me wrong and he should pay.”

Politics / Watch The Scary Moment Power Station Went Into Flames In Edo (video) by CGMedia: 7:22am On Jul 01, 2019

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5jiQIik44o

Residents have been thrown into total darkness as a power station belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), was on Sunday, gutted by fire, Igbere TV reports.

The affected station is located in Sapele road axis of Benin City, the Edo State capital.

Igbere TV gathered that the Sapele road station is one of the major stations serving the three states.

An eyewitness and staff of the company, told Igbere TV that the fire started with a spark, when power was restored, which resulted into an inferno.

He, however, added that the fire had already spread to the substations and surrounding units, before help came by.

According to him, “efforts to put out the fire were unsuccessful, as the inferno quickly spread to the main room leaving some staff on ground helpless.”

Igbere TV gathered that it took some extra efforts of the Edo State Fire Service, who arrived late, to put the fire under control.

When contacted by Igbere TV, a Spokesman of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), described the fire incident as “unfortunate.”

He lamented the grave impact the incident would have on power distribution, but however assured that there is no cause for alarm.

A statement later sent to Igbere TV by management of the BEDC read:

“The Management of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) hereby appeals to customers in Edo State, parts of Delta and Ondo State over the present service disruption to their areas due to the fire incident which occurred at the Benin Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) station, Sapele road.

“Presently all areas connected to the Benin TCN are affected due to a partial system collapse arising from the fire incident as this TCN sub station is interconnected to other TCN locations across the country.

“Every effort is being put in place by stakeholders to restore the light as soon as the fire is contained.

“The specific locations affected by the fire are yet to be known but major parts of Edo State are affected by the outage.

“We appeal for customer understanding and cooperation over the situation.

“Please bear with us.”

Igbere TV reports that BEDC is the company in charge of electricities in Edo, Ondo and Delta States.

Politics / Ruga Settlement Is To Resolve Farmer/Herder Conflicts - Presidency by CGMedia: 9:06pm On Jun 30, 2019
The Presidency, on Sunday, said the proposed Ruga settlement is aimed at addressing the lingering farmer/herder clashes across the country, Igbere TV reports.

It was reacting to comments and controversies the plan had generated on social media in the past few weeks.

In a statement issued to Igbere TV by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, he said;

“The Presidency wishes to draw attention to recent unhelpful comments regarding the plan to stop roaming of cattle herders with the attendant clashes with farmers.

“Ruga Settlement” that seeks to settle migrant pastoral families simply means rural settlement in which animal farmers, not just cattle herders, will be settled in an organized place with provision of necessary and adequate basic amenities such as schools, hospitals, road networks, vet clinics, markets and manufacturing entities that will process and add value to meats and animal products.

“Beneficiaries will include all persons in animal husbandry, not only Fulani herders.

“The Federal Government is planning this in order to curb open grazing of animals that continue to pose security threats to farmers and herders.

“The overall benefit to the nation includes a drastic reduction in conflicts between herders and farmers, a boost in animal protection complete with a value chain that will increase the quality and hygiene of livestock in terms of beef and milk production, increased quality of feeding and access to animal care and private sector participation in commercial pasture production by way of investments.

“Other gains are job creation, access to credit facilities, security for pastoral families and curtailment of cattle rustling.

“Stripped of the politics and howling that has attended the recent comments, there is no government plan to seize state land, colonize territory or impose Ruga on any part of the federation. Government has made it clear time and again that the programme is voluntary.

“So far, twelve states have applied to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, making lands available for the take-off of the scheme in their states. This number is sufficient for the pilot scheme. Unfortunately, some state governments that have not signified interest in the scheme and, therefore, are not on the invitation list have been misleading people that the Federal Government is embarking on a scheme to take away their lands.

“Mostly, these are state leaders that have no explanation to offer their people for continued non-payment of workers’ salaries. It is true that government at the centre has gazetted lands in all states of the federation but because the idea is not to force this programme on anyone, the government has limited the take-off to the dozen states with valid requests.

“We urge states to join the Federal Government at the centre in encouraging all sides to these conflicts to make efforts towards finding a peaceful resolution. As we seek a permanent solution to these unwanted conflicts, efforts must be made to ensure that no innocent person faces any kind of deprivation or loss of right and freedom under our laws.”

The embattled Senior Pastor of CommonWealth Zion Assembly (COZA), Biodun Fatoyinbo, has finally bowed to pressure from aggrieved Nigerians following the rape allegations leveled against him, Igbere TV reports.

The clergyman has subsequently ‘stepped down’ as Senior Pastor of the congregation, pending when he is able to clear his name.

Igbere TV gathered that Fatoyinbo said he was stepping aside for the church elders to “take charge.”

He also announced the suspension of a seven days programme of the church, which was supposed to commence this week.

Speaking on Sunday when he mounted the altar, the embattled pastor said the “Holy Spirit” directed him to suspend the programme.

Fatoyinbo stated that he was unhappy about the scandal rocking the church.

Igbere TV reports that the pastor has been widely criticised, with some Nigerians on Twitter asking him to step aside pending investigations into the rape allegations.

Our correspondent who monitored the service reports that members of the church hailed the pastor when he took to the pulpit, with some screaming “pastor we love you.”

Recall that celebrity photographer and wife of musician Timi Dakolo, Busola, had accused Fatoyinbo of raping her.

The pastor, however, denied the allegations, saying he has not raped anyone “before” even as an unbeliever.

Protesters under the #ChurchTooMovement had on Sunday, stormed the church premises in protest against the development.

The protesters were seen with placards which read: ‘We are watching you,’ ‘Your Pastor is not your God,’ ‘Thou shall not rape’ and ‘No to sexual abuse in my church’ ‘God can forgive you in jail’ among others with the hash tag ‘#ChurchToo.’

The protesters, including one of the leaders of the Bring Back Our Girls movement, Aisha Yesufu, were seen wearing white in solidarity with other victims of rape.

Igbere TV reports that the NYSC DG gave the warning while addressing Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members undergoing orientation at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Sagamu, Ogun State.

Politics / Goodluck Jonathan Denies Granting Amosun Approval To Stock Arms In Govt House by CGMedia: 11:35am On Jun 29, 2019
Former President Goodluck Jonathan, says he did not grant Senator Ibikunle Amosun, immediate past governor of Ogun State, approval to purchase and stockpile arms and ammunition, Igbere TV reports.

Amsoun had come under heavy criticism following Premium Times’ report that he built an armoury in government house during his time as governor.

Igbere TV reports that the former governor had accused Goodluck Jonathan of granting him approval to purchase and stockpile such weapons in government house.

Speaking on Thursday through Premium Times, an associate of the former president was quoted as saying: “I am not aware of any approval (to build an armoury to stockpile weapons).”

Similarly, a former Director at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), who reportedly worked closely with Sambo Dasuki during Jonathan’s era, said no such approval was given during Dasuki’s tenure.

He said: “Oga (NSA Dasuki) did not grant anyone approval to build an armoury,” the former official said. He asked not to be named so as not to be victimised by the current administration.

“Maintaining an armoury in Government House is an illegal activity, and we did not approve any such request during our time. We did not permit any governor to store arms and ammunition.

“If he is insisting there was an approval granted him for his armoury, we challenge him to make the documentation public.”

Igbere TV had previously reported that Senator Amosun said his administration legitimately purchased the 13 units of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), 1000 units of AK 47 rifles, two million rounds of ammunition, 1000 units of bullet proof vests and 500 bullet proof helmets and other security communication gadgets.

Amosun made the disclosure in a statement released by his Spokesperson, Rotimi Durojaiye, a copy of which was made available to Igbere TV on Thursday, June 27.

Igbere TV reports that the former governor said his administration had received approval from the Office of the National Security Adviser (Dasuki Sambo) to former president Goodluck Jonathan.

He recalled that in 2012, his administration had committed “substantial funds” for the procurement of hard and software to combat the myriad of security challenges being faced by the state.

Amosun pointed out that in April 2012, the security gadgets were publicly handed over to the then Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar.

He said it was the remainder of gadgets that had been handed over to the Ogun State Commissioner of Police on May 28, but clarified that “not a single AK 47 rifle was handed over at the event.”

Amosun added that Prince Dapo Abiodun, his successor and present governor of Ogun State, was the main supplier of some of the security assets, including the Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) which he reportedly handed over to the police at the end of his tenure.

Politics / Wike Revokes Licenses Of Schools In Rivers by CGMedia: 9:39am On Jun 29, 2019
Rivers State Governor, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has revoked the operational licenses of all private schools in the state, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that the governor had directed all the affected schools to seek fresh approval.

In a statement made available to Igbere TV on Saturday by Dr Tammy Danagogo, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), he said the decision was reached at a meeting with all private school owners at the Government House in Port Harcourt, on Friday.

Danagogo said the application for fresh approval must be done by all affected schools within the next two weeks.

“All the schools must apply for operational approval within the next two weeks.

“We will set up committees that will recommend the approval of schools. All the schools in the state must be up to the required standard,” the statement read in part.

The SSG said the second term of Wike’s administration is committed to improving the right standards in the education sector for the good of Rivers people.

“The governor’s office will review all the approval of schools. All the existing approvals by the Ministry of Education have been cancelled. For this process, there will be no room for bribery and corruption,” he said.

On the issue of revenue paid by schools, Danagogo said all levies must be paid through approved designated bank accounts.

He said that anyone who demands for cash payment should be reported to security agencies via designated phone lines.

The SSG said that his office will soon publish the telephone lines that school proprietors could contact in case they are pressured to pay illegal levies.
