EducationEbola: FG Insists On September 22nd Resumption Date. by chacoonder(op): 8:19am On Sep 11, 2014
The Federal Government said yesterday,
that the September 22 resumption date for primary
and secondary schools in the country would not be
extended because there are no strong reasons for
such an extension.
Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu,
who stated this while briefing State House
correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive
Council meeting insisted that those who have
reasons to believe that the schools should not re-
open on that date should forward same to the
Federal Government.
The Nigerian Medical Association, as well as other
professional bodies have called for the extension of
the resumption date for primary and secondary
schools until the country is free of the the Ebola
Virus Disease, EVD.
But speaking yesterday after the FEC meeting,
Professor Chukwu said those calling for the
extension of the schools resumption date were
being driven by “irrational fears”.
He said unlike other countries where the disease is
transmitted through community contact, Nigeria’s
case was different and there was no cause for
worry.
He said: “The minister of education, after meeting
with the commissioners for education from the 36
states and FCT decided when public schools should
open, which is 22nd of September. In taking that
decision, they considered the information that was
given by the federal ministry of health that there is
actually no reason now, with the expert information
we have at hand, why schools cannot resume
earlier than the original date of Oct. 13. I think
people should just allow us to do the work we have
been doing very professionally.
“It was based on advice given by the ministry of
health that the minister of education took the original
decision that it was going to be in October and
nobody quarrelled with the minister. Now the
minister, based on expert advice, has come back to
say the resumption date will now be Sept 22 and
some people are now quarrelling with it. I think we
should allow the authorities to do their job. It is not
an ordinary matter to be discussed the way we
want to discuss it.
“If you have any evidence why there is need to
review it (the resumption date of schools), supply
such evidence to the minister of health and we will
look at it.

EducationSchool Resumption Controversy,what's Your View? by chacoonder(op): 5:53am On Sep 10, 2014
THE initial announcement by the Minister of
Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau that all schools
nationwide should resume on October 13th 2014
over the Ebola Viral Disease outbreak had sparked
off a wave of reactions, with stakeholders in the
private schools sector coming out heavily against it.
The Minister called a meeting of state
commissioners for education and it was agreed that
schools should be reopened on Monday, September
22nd 2014.
This decision was taken as a way of
accommodating the interests of those who would
not want the school calendar to be overly disrupted
and the other side which insists that the Ebola
outbreak must be brought to a complete halt before
schools can reopen.
As much as we understand the concerns of those
who say that no outbreak should bring human
interactions and livelihood to a halt, we insist that it
is better for us to err on the side of caution. The
authorities must uphold the safety and welfare of
the children and by extension the rest of the family
above any other narrow considerations. Schools
should be reopened when it is confirmed that the
outbreak has been effectively arrested..Just yesterday, the Association of Medical Practitioners proposed that December,2014 will be the perfect date for resumption..what's your view on this?

Jobs/VacanciesRe: The Over-hyping Of First Class Honours In Nigeria by chacoonder(m): 10:43pm On Sep 01, 2014
SamSara01: Friday 5th of September will make it exactly 3 months I passed out of service. I'm a 1st class holder and the best graduating student of my department and faculty in a reputable public university in the south-west but I'm currently unemployed. Of course, my cause of worry does not major on being currently unemployed, but majors on how the hope of getting a job soon seems so deem. More worrying is how professionals, lecturers, friends, family and everyone else alike kept and keep sif this has been the tale of people like me, then 1st class honour has truly been over-hyped in Nigeria.
@Op, your discipline also count...You dnt expect a 1.1 in guardian and counselling to land you a job that easily.

egift: Military have no place in leading Nigeria. Also many top Army officers are already stealing big in this democracy.

But it is important for Politicians and political office holders in this democratic government stop the impunity, negligence of duty and the people, anti-people policies, massive corruption, killings and negativity that are now rampant in this administration.
..from history, most of the coup d'etat that happened in Nigeria were being carried out by the junior officers and not the generals except one. It is true that our generals have now become political stooges but i believe there are still some junior officers that are seriously aggrieved by these shenanigans. A typical case study was the mutiny that happened in maiduguri not too long ago.
PoliticsIs It Possible For The Military To Take Over The Govt In Nigeria? by chacoonder(op): 4:17am On Jul 25, 2014
Me and my friends were having our usual discussion on the current activities of boko haram sect in the country and majority of them thinks the military could take over the present government any time soon. Though some of us opposed to this,as we believe the era of military rule has gone into extinction all over the world but i have been pondering over its possibility since yesterday, because, i am beginning to realise that the military have long been pushed to the wall enough . So,i would like to have your own opinion on this.
