This is 2013 and some people are still eager to get a contract bank job where you're most likely stuck with the marketing dept or other dept Stop talking like a farmer. Who told you it's a contract position or do you just assume anything? GT remains one of the best organisations to work with in terms of training, experience and pay. The position advertised is for graduate trainees where you are paid over 200k per month after tax after the training of 4 months. How many organisations pay that to entry level staffs? @op, just pray very very hard to get into GTbank and then build your career from there. Moreso, GTbank doesn't really sack staffs unlike other banks because they spend alot of money and resources training, motivating and empowering their staff. In most cases staffs are sacked on extreme situations. Gdluck |

It's been a very busy 6 months for me, having moved into another industry after my postgrad. The training i am currently undergoing in the new office is quite strenuous but invaluable. Hoping to round-off soon and get my normal life rolling once again. I hardly make post nowadays and my social life has been drastically reduced. It's refreshing to be part of this thread being a one time standby onlooker. ![]() 1 Like |

whizkidy: @ all expecting training school invite, a batch had their medicals between monday and yesterday. The TS invite should be sent before the end of today and that's if a class would be resuming next week else expect the invite next week. Medicals again! hmmmm..... well, by my calculations and on the fact that some had their medicals yesterday, i feel TS invites will start flying on thursday or friday. But how come some people are doing medicals this week when others did theirs last week? Is it that people failed medicals or that some didn't attend so they want to make-up the number? Do people fail gtb medicals and on what note? Justasking!!! |

^^^ Congrats man! Did you just get the invite or was it sent yesterday? We are still expecting TS invite ohhh. |

This Okija Juju will never fail to disgrace himself! Imagine a sensible human, living in a third world country where access to BASIC things of life is non-existent, approving such frivolous spending by a mere governor of a state, just because to him Amaechi is ''trying''. He is trying because he constructed roads, built bridges and shared money to his fellow political thieves! This is the height of mediocrity. This same Okija Juju will be quick to condemn Gov. Rochas Okorocha who built a new University, offered free education, free feeding for school pupils, constructed new roads, offered free medical facilities etc just within one year in office. So, Amaechi wants to turn bird while the people of Rivers state live on flood? This is irresponsibility of the highest order! Spending $45.7 million to acquire an aircraft built in another man's country, through deep commitment of funds to research and development by their leaders. If the leaders of Canada had squandered the wealth of their country on frivolities would the likes of Amaechi had seen ''birds'' to fly on? Nigeria will remain like this if we keep celebrating mediocrity! 3 Likes |

okesammie: Are you reading this peeps? It is two months on a normal day and when it gets abnormal, it goes beyond two months. Lexo4real and chamber.1st week in November is very sure 4 u guys. All the best. Please don't forget to keep us posted just like whizkidy is doing. Meanwhile, we are gonna appreciate if you could help us post questions from your interview that we are not familiar with here. Let me give a breakdown of the interview questions. The Mistake most people make is to bundle alot of irrelevant things in their CV, thereby making it difficult for the interviewer to quickly scan through their Cv. It also makes the interviewer ask you numerous questions which may throw you off-balance. I mean, this is an entry level/graduate trainee job where you are assumed to haven't done really much, why then suffocate the interviewer with a 2-3 paged CV and thereby making your interview questions complex? My CV was just one paged and the panel commended me for that. Just include ONLY the important things and say others in the course of the interview. Secondly, be confident, eloquent and friendly. Smile when necessary and DO NOT argue with the panel. If they disagree with you on any point just smile and inform them you have noted their points. DO NOT ARGUE. Also, try to ask questions. In my case i asked; what is a typical day at GT like? What are the opportunities for career advancement at GT? Questions help to show you are actually interested in knowing more about them. Try also to gesticulate. Do not just sit like dummy without moving your hands. It shows lack of confidence. Do not mumble. Be clear and concise. Your dressing must reflect your personality and carriage. Dress appropriately. I will advise you wear a black suit, black tie or orange colour with a white shirt. Thats very suitable for the interview. Know your course of study, why you chose the course during jamb and how it relates to banking. Also, when asked which dept of the bank you feel you can fit in, tell the panel that you are quite versatile and flexible and would fit in any dept of the bank. On the one-on-one interview, know things about the bank, its financials and the Nigerian banking sector. Know why you feel you are suitable for the job and why you should be employed against others. In the bank's financials, know its current share price, capital base, shareholders' equity, profit, dividend etc. In summary, the questions are: 1. Tell me about yourself. Here advise you say things beyong your cv 2.where do you see yourself in 5yrs? 3.what do you know about gt? 4.what are about financials? 5.Tell me about the banking sector 6.Why do you consider yourself fit for this job? 7.why did you choose your course of study? 8. How does your course relate to banking? etc Also, pray for God's favour and guidance. If you pass the panel stage the personal interview is almost a walk-over. 4 Likes |

Just to give an overview of the entire recruitment process. Interested candidates can apply for existing vacancies or submit their CV's for consideration via the on-line registration form on the Careers portal of the Bank's website, www.gtbank.com. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to go through the Bank's five-Step recruitment process summarized below: Step 1: Computer Based Assessment If found eligible, you will be invited to complete a Computer-Based assessment comprising questions covering: Spatial Reasoning, Abstract Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, History/Current Affairs, Numerical Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation. The assessments are designed to help us determine if you possess the skills to succeed in a role with Guaranty Trust Bank. Step 2: Pre-Interview If you are successful at the Computer-Based assessment, you will be invited for an informal chat with a member of the Human Resources Team, where you will be required to provide evidence of relevant qualifications/credentials for verification. You may also be required to write an essay, details of which will be advised to you during the discussion. Step 3: Panel Interview You may then be invited to a panel interview which will be competency-based. Candidates are expected to demonstrate key capabilities and also provide evidence of the qualities and skills the Bank requires. Step 4: Final Interview This stage involves a one-on-one interview with a member of the Executive Management Team. In addition to more competency questions, candidates are expected to demonstrate industry knowledge and passion required to work in Guaranty Trust Bank. Step 5: Entry Level Training Scheme Candidates who are successful at the Final Interview will be offered a place in our four-month Entry-Level Training Programme. Here, participants are trained and tested on practical, social, and technical aspects of Banking. Participants are expected to have a minimum average specified at the beginning of the Programme. Successful candidates will then be absorbed into the Bank. http://gtbank.com/index.php/careers/why-join-gtbank#recruitment |

ballabriggs: ^^^ Your line of thinking is prevalent among govt officials, i wouldn't be surprised if you are one. Just because one policy favours you doesn't necessarily mean it will be in the best interest of the others.Sir, nobody said the CBN shouldn't engage in currency management activities. When soludo came he vigorously pursued a currency restructuring initiative; changing the wordings in the currency, introduced coins, polymer and finally printed the N1000 note. That was about 5yrs ago. Until now Nigerians are yet to feel the impact of such frivolous exercise. Why then are we in a haste to introduce a new currency? Aside the issue of convenience, and efficiency what other benefits do we stand to gain from this initiative? Remember, the cashless policy was designed to address the issue of cost, efficiency, convenience etc. So why the N5000 note, at least at this point when we can barely finance the power sector challenges? One would therefore expect the current CBN governor to pay more attention to the cashless policy initiative rather spending over N40b to introduce a new currency. After-all, the both have similar objective- which is cost reduction and efficiency. The cash policy will reduce the volume of cash transactions, reduce cost both on the part of the CBN, banks and populace. It will also encourage the use of coins through the establishment of facilities that will enhance its use. You don't put the cart before the horse. |
![]() |
ballabriggs: ^^^ If this is how Economists reason in real life then i would rather not study it. What if the same N40b was spent on maybe Agriculture, rural health facilities, education etc wouldn't it have been better? You have obviously lost touch with reality. Where is Soludo's coins after 5yrs of its introduction? Did you know how much that was spent introducing the current N1000 note by soludo and the polymer notes, of what use are they after 5yrs? |
![]() |
^^^^ you are the one talking rubbish! Yes, complete rubbish. You forgot these were still the same problem the cashless policy was designed to curtail. Why do i even need to carry cash to buy a single computer when i can conveniently order online or pay with card? Do we even need the higher denomination even when cashless policy is being canvassed? The cashless policy, if well implemented, will address almost all the problems you enumerated. It's not rocket science. |

faithin9ja: Let me tell you something. The fact that coins were used/accepted in the 80s when the purchasing power of the naira was at par with the USA dollars does not mean that people will ultimately accept it now. Times have changed, and the naira is more or less worthless. N20 can barely pay any body's fare currently. So, what are we talking about? What is the usefulness of the coins when they cannot be accepted/used? Soludo tried it and failed. Blacksmiths etc converted the coins to earrings, jewelries etc and made fortunes from there. This is because the jewelries worth more than the currency itself in real terms. This is the classical case of bad money chasing away good money in circulation. |
![]() |
ballabriggs: You seem to me like one ''obodo oyibo'' bred kid! No economy functions in isolation of the socio-psychological disposition of the people. Spending N40b just to print some piece of paper so as to create some measure of convenience is bad economics if you ask me, especially in a country riddled with poverty, inequality, corruption and unemployment. The ONLY benefit of the N5000 is the assumed convenience it creates and the reduction in currency management cost. Aside this, nothing else. Over the last few months the CBN and it's agents have been selling the ''cashless'' policy gospel to Nigerians. This policy was designed to reduce the quantum of cash in circulation, promote operational efficiency, reduce thievery and other vices, and ultimately leads to job creation through the establishment of POS and other payment infrastructures. Now, tell me where the N5000 enters into the equation? Cashless policy and new currency introduction, complete counter-policy initiative! On the issue of coins, history has shown that Nigerians dont feel comfortable carrying coins. This may be as a result of lack of facilities that will facilitate the use of coins e.g phone boots, train transportation etc. So, reducing N20 to coin will mean outright disappearance of these lower denominations thereby making N50 the lowest denomination with its attendant inflation pressure. So, couldn't the CBN wait for a while to see how successful the cashless policy will be before this new currency restructuring? Why the haste? The cashless policy would have complemented the new currency if adequate time was given for a complete introduction of the cashless regime. Now, one CBN deputy governor came up to say that the people can reject the N5000 note from the commercial banks if they deem necessary. Reject a legal tender, how possible? The problem we have as a country is that we live in a time when those in positions of authority systematically lie to its people so as to gain little personal advantage. This is the delima of the Nigerian society 2 Likes |

charlsecy4: UGHELLI—OGBOIN-Ama Community in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, has been thrown into confusion following the death of a bulldozer operator with Setraco Construction Company, Mr. Samuel Onuabuchi, who was stung to death by bees. This is the most touching part of this story. So, other workers could not help him for fear of being stung? eh, Nigerians can be very selfish at times, after all, the bees couldn't have killed all of them at the same time. Allowing him die just because of not wanting to be stung is very selfish, inhuman and unmindful. It could have been any of them. 9 Likes |

Yours is an impressive profile. However, the labour market can be very funny a times. Just few days ago i read a post here on nairaland of a young man with a Masters degree in development studies from the University of Manchester seeking advise on how to get an ''internship'' with those organisations you listed. Unless you are 99% sure of getting jobs in those organisations you listed then i will advise you tread softly.Jobs in the oil sector don't come easily, even with a masters. Then i ask, is it possible to get a study leave from your organisation? At least to have a back-up plan? If yes, then take up the study offer. But if NO and you are 99% sure of getting jobs in the listed in't agencies upon completion of your studies then also go for the study. Also, if you are not sure of getting jobs in those agencies upon completion of your studies, then know that you are only taking a risk-an uninsured one for that matter. Because you will probably be competing with young men who have or even better professional, academic and even volunteering exposures than you and the competition could be very stiff and depressing. 2 Likes |
