I don't believe substitutions would have stopped that goal - that defence was liable to leak a goal at ANY MOMENT. It has NOTHING to do with pressing or substitutions.

The goal was caused by a set piece - are you claiming that substitutions would've stopped Wigan having a corner kick till the end of the game? If that is what you are arguing then I agree with you.

Looking at the bench, I'd have taken Bendtner off since Chamakh is better at retaining possession than he is, replaced Bendtner (who was playing on the wing) with Nasri who can hold on to possession. I would NOT have played Walcott because he's taken too long to cause an impact on games from the bench this season.

Secondly, I'd switch Sagna back to his natural position and bring on Clichy, pushing Eboue up the field to provide additional protection on that wing.

What we needed was one ball holding substitution (Nasri) and one defensive one (Clichy).

Wasn't Sagna already playing in his natural position at RB . . . Eboue was playing at LB
