Obj can choose to go against his party, that his his business, but to move our democracy forward there must be party discipline.

It is shameful that OBJ is in PDP and he is entertaining opposition candidates, that is anti-party activity anywhere in the world, our constitution, with the many ambiguities in it, make it very difficult to enforce party discipline currently, OBJ might be getting away with it his indiscipline today but it will be remembered someday. PDP will use it against him in future and APC will not trust him to be loyal.

Please, if the pdp has had enough of obj, let them expel him. Doesn't anyone in the pdp have a spine? Even to sack the embarrassing Stella Oduah the president was equivocating. The cluelessness of Jonathan has infected his party. Every state party behaves as the garrison commander desires, and the peoples frustrations mount. Now is the time for the citizens to execute their judgement on all the bs they have seen over the last four years. Please keep quiet. Yorubas rejected Obasanjo the first time because their other son-Olu Falae was in the race. The second time, they clearly rejected Buhari and went for the same Obasanjo who they rejected earlier simply because he is Yoruba and their son. We are not kids here, everything you guys do is laced and coloured with tribalism. Out of unnecessary bitterness and frustration the same Buhari that you rejected for your son Obasanjo, is now the best man for Nigeria. SMH.

Let me help you understand. The dominant yoruba political grouping in 1999 was afenifere to which falae belonged, but not obasanjo. So the yoruba supported the man who was in line with their political thinking, quite unlike the situation in the East where APGA has disintegrated into insignificance, dealing ojukwu serial election defeats, a leader the chose but refused to follow. Afenifere /Alliance for Democracy (AD) transformed under Tinubu into the action Congress, and now the APC and it has largely remained united in philosophy and ambition. The yoruba are now in alliance with the powerhouse of North Western Nigeria from a position of strength. If there was a similar authority or political structure in the East, they would gladly talk with them, but all most Nigerians can see there is defensiveness, weakness, divisions, no strategy, no direction. So please fix your own issues, and stop throwing brickbats out of envy. One does not have to love Buhari to support him, this is not a beauty contest. It is about changing the direction the country is going in, and making government more accountable to the citizens and the law. Jonathan has messed up, and is being rejected even within his party, and it is depressing to see that many like you think his performance so far gives cause to reward him with four more years, because your ethnicist bile and jaded propaganda has atrophied cerebral activity into a flat line.

@change2015, I think you have a point there. I have never been involved in politics in my ward partly because I have spent all of my lifetime living outside my home state. I recently got a bit drawn into thoughts of it when a close friend contested for reps in the last election. This must be the case for several other elite and well meaning people in our society who probably feel the game is too dirty for them. I must admit I feel that way too considering when I see the people who crowd the venues of political events. We need to change our attitude towards politics for real.

My brother, I understand what you say, but I still go to ward meetings in lagos, indigene or not. It is where I live. We have had an igbo councillor, and there are regulars from at least 4 other states some who have held positions as youth leader, women's leader etc. If you show constructive interest, you will accepted. Of course many times they may chose to speak the local language, something I consider archaic. Wherever you live take an interest, the quality of people who dedicate their time to politics must rise. How else can we get real structural change of the polity, if people think politics is beneath them.

Pray tell, are these yorubas saying that Obasanjo is a better choice to Buhari? If they see Obasanjo as better than Buhari how is it that Buhari has suddenly become the best man to rule Nigeria? If Obasanjo is considered better than Buhari then Buhari is not worth it.

We all know they voted massively for Obasanjo because he is their son and nothing more. That is how our self-acclaimed sophisticated yorubas reason and behave. These yorubas are highly unreliable people and very unstable; they are a treacherous group of people who mistake back-stabbing and treachery for sophistication and wisdom.

You are simply wrong. In his first election the entire West rejected obasanjo and the pdp and voted AD. In his second election, obasanjo had to beg for support, and then rigged out most of the AD governors. That situation has been remedied. Obasanjo is not a popular man even in his state. And the West has a political structure that is now merged with the northern allies to contest for power. If only the West and the North take federal politics seriously don't blame them. No one is stopping you from doing the same, instead of just swallowing whatever you are presented with.

Sorry to say but most Nigerians are lazy when it comes to politics. Do you attend any ward meetings? Do you visit or write letters to your elected representatives? Do you follow up on the activities of your local government? I started out as an AD member and the attendance and quality of those who dedicate their time and resources to local politics still surprises me. But if they were not there, would you be there? Pointing fingers is pointless when we don't take any interest in our civic responsibilities. There is more to democracy than just voting in elections! Get involved.
