What vital role my friend? If he did then the Govs of Bayelsa, Delta and Akwa Ibom all played vital roles and not just Amaechi...!!!

If my memory serves me right, i thought it was the FG's amnesty program that reduced militancy in the ND which also included RS. Why is Gov. Amaechi saying he dealt with Militancy in two months? What RS experienced prior to his Supreme Court victory were politically motivated cult wars btw him and his cousin Omehia.
PoliticsRe: Does Nyesom Wike Has An Admirable Leadership Quality To Govern Rivers? by CharlesPhc: 8:21pm On Aug 18, 2014
Considering the kind of personality of Gov. Amaechi, PDP in Rivers State would have long been dead and buried after the decamping to APC from PDP by the Gov. Nyesom Wike's doggedness was what kept and still keeps the voice of PDP in Rivers State. Morally speaking (which i also believe may be the game plan of PDP in RS) Wike may eventually not contest the gubernatorial election but the leadership of the party in the state will always remain under his control...!!! Gov. Amaechi knowing who Wike is, knows very well that if he can buy everyone to his side, Wike is one rugged man in politics that believes in a course and stakes his life for it. Even though we don't like the idea of Wike contesting, lets give him the kudos for not keeping quiet when everyone else kept quiet.

RomanceThe Surprising Key Element In Happy Couples by CharlesPhc(op): 11:51am On Aug 09, 2014
Have you ever wondered if you and the guy you just started dating will make it long term? Or are you about to get married, and wish you could really predict if it will last? Do you ever wonder if you and your wife's relationship is as happy as it can be? What do you think accounts for those who seem madly in love, versus couples who don't make it or seem miserable together?

Most of us can think of all sorts of elements that might make a happy couple. But there's one key factor that almost everyone overlooks: Emotional Intelligence (EI). In fact, a new research meta-analysis shows a significant association between Emotional Intelligence and relationship satisfaction. This means that couples with high Emotional Intelligence tend to be happier in their love life together. This finding was true for both men and women.

What is Emotional Intelligence, exactly? Your level of EI is defined by how effectively you perceive and relate to your emotions. With high EI, there are four main components at play:

Emotional Awareness: You're consciously aware of your own emotions, and are able to monitor and understand your own feelings. Rather than push your emotions away, you experience and examine them.

Regulating Emotions: You have the ability to manage your emotions, such as being able to calm down quickly or self soothe when you're upset. Emotions don't overwhelm you, even the more difficult emotions such as fear, sadness, anxiety or anger.

Harnessing Emotions: You're able to harness your emotions in a helpful way: to achieve goals, solve problems or generally better your situation.

Highly Perceptive: You're sensitive to the feelings of others. You're able to tune into how others are feeling, and are engaged in the process of listening, showing empathy, and attending to other's emotional states.

We know that couples where both people have high levels of Emotional Intelligence are closer, are more committed to one another, and are more satisfied in their relationships. But what is it about EI that is so helpful? The study authors suggest that being able to manage your own emotions, understand your partners' emotions and behave in emotionally competent ways, all contribute to a happy love life. They also suggest that you likely model good emotional skills when you're high in EI, and these skills may rub off on you partner, benefiting you both.

Increasing Emotional Intelligence

What if you have a feeling that your Emotion Intelligence is slightly lacking in refinement? Worry not. Like any skill, emotional intelligence is something you can learn, practice and improve. Couples counseling with a focus on emotional intelligence is an excellent way to develop these abilities together.

Another simple way to increase your emotional intelligence right away is to begin emotion labeling. To do this, simply pick three times a day (possibly at mealtimes, to make it easier to remember) and take stock of your emotional state. Label your emotions right in that moment. "I'm feeling frustrated." Then label why you might feel that way. "I'm feeling frustrated because I'd wanted to leave work by 5PM but there's no way I'm leaving here until 7PM with this workload." Lastly, label the intensity of your emotion on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being high intensity and 1 being low intensity. "I'm frustrated at about a level 6." As you begin to practice this type of emotional mindfulness, you'll find that you can more easily identify your own emotions and intensity throughout the day on a consistent basis.

So if you're single and looking, be sure to pay attention to your date's level of emotional awareness to see if you're on the same page. If you're about to walk down the isle, consider pre-marital counseling to asses your EI as a couple and how you can help improve it together. And if you're struggling to understand why you're having problems in your current relationship, consider Emotional Intelligence as a factor that's worth looking at more closely.

Foreign AffairsRe: Russian Nuclear Bombers Keep Roaming Closer To U.S. Airspace by CharlesPhc(op): 11:43am On Aug 09, 2014
The Russian military has admitted they have flown in that area. They told ITAR-TASS, "all flights were scheduled in advance and were made in strict compliance with the international rules of using airspace without trespassing the borders of other countries."
Foreign AffairsRussian Nuclear Bombers Keep Roaming Closer To U.S. Airspace by CharlesPhc(op): 11:13am On Aug 09, 2014
Russian nuclear bombers were spotted flying near Alaska this week. The bombers were escorted by fighter jets, floating just outside of U.S. and Canadian airspace. This is the second such sighting since June, sparking the attention of American military jets.

Major Beth Smith, of the U.S. Northern Command and the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), has said "Over the past week, NORAD has visually identified Russian aircraft operating in and around the U.S. air defense identification zones." There have been about 16 Russian forays in the Alaskan and north Canadian area in the last 10 days.

It is not entirely uncommon to see Russian planes in this airspace, however, the increased number of such planes seems to be triggering some concern amongst the aviation military community, particularly given the increased tension in Ukraine. Smith referred to this number of forays as "a spike in activity."

Smith noted that these were training missions, though a spy plane and anti-submarine plane were spotted among the bombers. However, another defense official told the Washington Free Beacon they believe this is more than just a training flight. The official stated "[Russian strategic nuclear forces appear to be] trying to test our air defense reactions, or our command and control systems. These are not just training missions."

PoliticsCourt Rejects Ngilari’s Request To Halt Adamawa Gov Election by CharlesPhc(op): 7:33pm On Aug 08, 2014
A Federal High Court, Abuja on Friday turned down the request by erstwhile Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, Bala Ngilari, to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission from conducting the governorship bye-election in the state.

Justice Adeniyi Ademola ruling on Ngilari’s ex-parte motion, however, ordered that INEC be put on notice to defend the substantive suit.

The judge after listening to the plaintiff’s counsel, Mr. Festus Keyamo, who moved two ex-parte applications, granted his prayer for substituted service through publication in the national newspaper.

The judge also granted leave to the plaintiff to serve the court processes on the defendants outside Abuja.

He then fixed Tuesday for hearing of the motion on notice containing similar prayer of injunction.

Ngilari had on Wednesday filed the suit seeking among other prayers, an order compelling his swearing in as the governor of Adamawa State following the impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako.

The former deputy governor who denied resigning from office urged the court to declare as nullity his letter of resignation dated July 14 and addressed to the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly.

In his suit, marked, FHC/ABJ/CS/545/14, the plaintiff argued that his resignation was in breach of the provisions of sections 306(1), (2) and (5) of the 1999 Constitution since it was addressed to the Speaker and not the governor as “strictly” provided for in the Constitution.

According to his lawyer, the constitution provides that a Deputy Governor who intends to resign from office is “strictly” required by the provisions of the constitution to send his resignation letter to the governor and not the Speaker of the House of Assembly as his client did.

The defendants in the suit are the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, the House itself, Ahmadu Fintiri, who was sued as an individual and as the Acting Governor of the state, Nyako and the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The plaintiff is asking the court to nullify the declaration of his office vacant on the account of his resignation letter dated July 14 and also the subsequent swearing in of Fintiri as the acting governor on July 15.

He is also seeking an injunction restraining the INEC from conducting election for the office of the governor of the state.

He argued that based on his alleged illegal resignation he was the one who ought to have been rightfully sworn in as governor after Nyako was removed.

Ngilari stated in a supporting affidavit, that “I did not submit any letter of resignation to the 5th defendant (governor) or any other person other than the 1st defendant (the Speaker).

“I only submitted a purported letter of resignation (exhibit A), to the 1st defendant but I never intended to comply with the strict provisions of sections 306 (1), (2) & (5) of the 1999 Constitution by submitting it to the 5th defendant (the Governor).

“I never intended exhibit A (the letter) to be any subject of debate or resolution by the 2nd defendant (House of Assembly), but a private correspondence between myself and the 1st defendant, hence it was marked ‘secret’.

“That exhibit A was only submitted to the 1st defendant with the intention of discussing the contents with him privately at a more convenient time to alert him at a possible action I may take at a later date because of certain political developments in Adamawa State, hence I did not submit it to the 5th defendant (as Governor of Adamawa State) as strictly stipulated by section 306(1), (2) & (5) of the 1999 Constitution.

“That I was therefore shocked to see that my letter was read and acted upon by the entire members of the 2nd defendant when it was never addressed to them.”

The plaintiff’s prayers read in part, “An order of this Honorable Court directing the Chief Judge of Adamawa State (or Acting Chief Judge, as the case may be) or the President of the Customary Court of Appeal to swear in Barr. Bala James Nggilari (the Plaintiff) as the substantive Governor of Adamawa State.”

PoliticsNasarawa Lawmakers Shun Jonathan Peace Moves -minority Leader by CharlesPhc(op): 2:12pm On Aug 06, 2014
The Minority Leader, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mr. Tanko Maikatako, has said President Goodluck Jonathan’s efforts to amicably settle the dispute between the lawmakers and Governor Umaru Al-Makura were rejected.

“The President’s efforts toward peace were not successful due to selfishness among the lawmakers,” Maikatako, a member of the All Progressives Congress, who represents Lafia Central Constituency, told the News Agency of Nigeria, on Wednesday in Lafia.

According to him, Jonathan had appealed to the lawmakers to opt for dialogue rather than impeaching Al-Makura, but that the legislators insisted on removing the governor.

“The President met with us and appealed to us to go back and meet with the governor to iron out the issues, but the members refused,” he said.

Maikatako said he was very surprised at that development.

“We don’t know why it happened that way. If the President himself, the PDP leader in the country, appeals to his colleagues to return to Nasarawa, meet the governor to iron out issues, they should have come back,” he opined.

Maikatako frowned on the attitude of his 20 colleagues, declaring that their insistence on ignoring Jonathan’s peace offer snowballed into the political crisis.

“Their resolve to go ahead with the impeachment of Gov. Umaru Al-Makura was selfishly motivated,” said Maikatako, who claimed that the lawmakers did not have an iota of evidence to substantiate their claims against Al-Makura.

“They abandoned all the allegations they levelled against the governor; that means that the allegations were baseless. One can therefore conclude that the panel did its job.

“As it is, the lawmakers must come back. That was what Mr President advised them to do; they must meet the governor and iron out the issues.”

He appealed to his colleagues to return back to the state to tackle issues that were beneficial and had direct bearing on the lives of the electorate “instead of looking for ‘every trick’ to oust the governor”.

“It is not too late for us to achieve much for our people. Let the law makers come back so that we can continue our work.

“There are lots of executive bills that are of immense benefit to the electorate. We resumed yesterday (Tuesday), but they are nowhere to be found,” he said.

NAN reports that the investigative panel set up by the Chief Judge, Justice Umaru Dikko, to investigate allegations of gross misconduct levelled against Al-Makura, on Tuesday, dismissed the allegations for lack of evidence as the lawmakers refused to appear to substantiate their claims.
