PoliticsInsurgents Return To Kukawa, Kill 3 Soldiers, 7 Civilians by chat2deen(op): 11:16am On Jul 13, 2015
Suspected Boko Haram fighters on Friday returned to the ancient town of Kukawa in Borno State where they killed three soldiers and seven old men, witnesses and local officials said.
The terrorist had on Wednesday, July 1st attacked Kukawa shortly after the breaking of Ramadan fast killing 118 people.
They also destroyed many houses even though some of the residents that fled their homes returned after the deployment of troops.
The insurgents reportedly returned to the town on Friday when the residents were preparing to break their fast.
Alhaji Kole, an opinion leader from Kukawa told our correspondent that dozens of  Boko Haram terrorists stormed Kukawa around 5.30 pm, chanting Allahu Akbar (Allah is great).
“They kept their vehicles in the outskirt of the town and went straight to the army formation where they engaged troops in fierce fight.
“After long fighting, the terrorists killed 3 soldiers, forcing the remaining forces to retreat after exhausting their ammunition,” he said.
Another resident of Kukawa, Kolo Modu, said the insurgents proceeded to the town and set some houses ablaze.
“While they (terrorists) were engaging soldiers, most of our people fled their homes while some of us, the youths hid on trees. The terrorists then burnt some houses and after they left, we discovered the bodies of seven old men who died because of wounds from fire,” he said.
In a related development, soldiers on routine operations on Friday ‘mistakenly’ killed a driver of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and injured others.
The incident happened around Benisheikh, 70 kilometers away from Maiduguri, along Damaturu road.
Series of attacks had taken place on Friday, leading to the death of many people.
Witness Kamilu Tela said the tragic incident happened when the company’s engineers were coming back from repairs of some faulty installations.
“The soldier mistook the TCN workers as Boko Haram terrorists because they saw them coming out from the bush that leads to Damboa town, they opened fire on the Hilux vehicle and the driver died instantly,” he said.
An official of TCN, who confirmed the incident said apart from the driver that died, some occupants of the vehicle sustained gunshot wounds, including their leader who was shot in the womb.

PoliticsLamido's Popularity Increases In Kurmawa Prison by chat2deen(op): 10:44am On Jul 13, 2015
The popularity of the former governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has soared barely three days after he was thrown behind bars at the Kano Central Prison, Kurmawa, over money laundering charges.
The number of visitors who come daily to pay him solidarity visits has made him the focal point in Kurmawa.
Lamido, along with his two sons, and one Alhaji Aminu Wada Abubakar, were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday, July 9, over a 28-count charge of money diversion totalling N1.3 billion.
Justice Evylene Anyadeke of the Federal High Court in Kano, remanded him in prison, pending consideration of his bail application and suspended the hearing till September 28.
Sources revealed on Sunday, July 12, that the former governor played host to various friends, well-wishers and political associates who crowded the prison.
Blueprint learnt from reliable sources that several nationally renowned political figures went to his detention facility to pay him homage. His visitors described him as, “politically gallant and one who has never been easily rattled in the face of his political travails.”
Several former commissioners, special advisers, special assistants and Peoples Democratic Party stalwarts were seen at the prison as they went to sympathise with the man they described as “a genuine political mentor.”
It was also revealed that Lamido adopted a simple procedure of meeting with the people after seeking permission from prison officials, who painstakingly screened his visitors by compiling a list of names and giving it to him for proper identification.
Lamido’s visitors prayed for him, telling him that with constant prayers he would overcome his travails.
It is believed in some political quarters that Lamido’s bail application will be approved this week.
Earlier, Lamido said he is being persecuted by those who are threatened by his political profile because they are worried that they won’t actualise their presidential ambition with him around the political terrain.

PoliticsRe: How Buhari's ADC Was Selected by chat2deen(m): 1:18am On May 31, 2015
fretnot:
With the inauguration of Muhammadu Buhari as president a few hours away, it has emerged that infighting between a former Chief of Army Staff, General Abdulrahman Dambazzau and top former military officers from the north over key security appointments may threaten the cohesion of the incoming administration.PointBlankNews reports that the former military leaders, it was gathered, are unhappy that Dambazzau is already asserting himself as National Security Adviser (NSA)-designate, claiming he solely determines who gets any security and military appointment in the incoming administration. While the retired officers have reportedly aligned with Buhari’s decision to appoint key security and military aides from any part of the country outside of the core north, Dambazzau may have cladenstinely effected the appointment of a certain Lt. Col M. Lawal Abubakar as Buhari’s ADC.Abubakar like Dambazzau belongs to the military police corps and hails from the same Kano State. He is a member of the 44th Regular Course of Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA).As Lt. Col, Dambazzau was NDA’s registrar and was the anchor person on the Armed Forces selection board that admitted Abubakar and other cadets of the 44th Regular Course. 44th Regular Course was the most controversial intake into the NDA as Kano State, against the academy’s rule of admitting equal number of cadets per state, unexplicably had nearly double the number of intakes than any other state.Aside the admission blunder, military sources told Pointblanknews.com that several members of Course 44 from Kano dn’t have the required five O’Level credits and had to be writing the examinations as undergraduates of the Defence Academy.Dambazzau had reportedly attempted to foist Lt. Col. Yakassai, who was his ADC as Chief of Army Staff on Buhari, but that the president-elect flatly rejected the proposal.Like Abubakar, Yakassai was a member of the controversial 44th Regular Course, and served as ADC during Rabi’u Kwankwaso’s tenure as Minister of Defence and Dambazzau as Army Chief. On two attempts, Yakassai reportedly failed his promotion examinations and passed on the third attempt after Dambazzau’s personally intervention as Army Chief. The former military leaders from the north are reportedly worried that handing Buhari a core northern ADC would cast the president-elect in the mould of an ethnic champion.“Look at Obasanjo. The two ADCs that served him were from Edo State. The Late Yar’Adua’s ADC is from Delta State. Jonathan’s ADC is from Kogi, so why not get an ADC outside of the north west as Buhari’s ADC?” quizzed a retired two-star general. He continued, “True, there are no hard and fast rules about appointing ADCs. Howevern, the practice both in the military and for deserving political office holders is for the principal to appoint his ADC, being a personal aide, on the basis of his“In the alternative where due to the seniority gap between the principal and the officer, the practice is for the Army to avail the principal a shortlist of competent field officers between the ranks of Major and Lt. Colonel with accompanying briefs or a ‘pen picture’ of the candidate,” he added.Pointblanknews.com gathered that the Army was to send such shortlist with briefs to Buhari, and that the president was looking forward to making his preference, but that Dambazzau scuttled the process to enable his legman emerge.“Fully aware of the powers and influence of the ADC, the most important link between the president and the military, it comes as little surprise that Dambazzau so desperately wants to be responsible for appointing one for Buhari so he can effectively be in total control,” alleged a retired officer.Pointblanknews.com also gathered that Dambazzau had raised eyebrows when he sent a long list of soldiers and officers to be trained to replace the bodyguard elements in the presidential villa usually drawn from the DSS, Police and Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA), fueling concerns on his motives.Read more http://newswirengr.com/2015/05/30/dambazzau-the-infighting-ongoing-between-ex-northern-military-leaders-over-security-appointments-in-buharis-government/
Baseless write up! I wonder how some ppl come up with lies. It was the same army that posted ADC to buhari. Some one is claiming dambazau choose it for buhari.

Nice one! But the Ensign is actually Midshipman which is only applicable to regular officers which is equivalent to pilot officer in the airforce and 2Lt in army(automatically promoted to lieutenant after spending a year). These ranks are attained as a 5th termer for navy n airforce.

naptu2:
The President and Commander in Chief (C in C) of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is one of few civilians in Nigeria that is entitled to a military ADC (the Minister of Defence is also entitled to a military ADC). An ADC is a military assistant to a senior military officer. The duties of the President's ADC include managing the President's security (in conjunction with the Chief Security Officer) and acting as liaison between the President and the Brigade of Guards. The C in C's ADC is usually a colonel, but Murtala Muhammed decided to retain the ADC he had before becoming the C in C (this ADC, Akintunde Akinsehinwa, was a lieutenant). The ADCs of the Commander in Chief since the return to civilian rule in 1999 are: -

1) Colonel Solomon Giwa-Amu:

He was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General after serving as ADC to President Obasanjo and he also served as Defence Attache to the Nigerian Mission to the United Nations, Commander of the 81 Division Military Police and Director of Defence Information. He was also very active in many charitable organisations.

Brigadier General Giwa-Amu died in a car crash in February 2008.

2) Colonel Chris Jemitola: -

A group of Nigerian soldiers, called themselves as patriotic offices, write a letter to the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

The soldiers accused the president of imposition of unprofessional generals in the Nigerian military stating that money budgeted to fight terrorists was actually spent arming the terrorists.

The officers said President Jonathan could’ve stopped the Boko Haram militants from developing into a terrorist group, but he deliberately stopped efforts to snuff it out when it was still a mere menace.

It called for the removal of several officials who were imposed on the Nigerian army.

It should be noted that recently one of the teenagers rescued among others in Sambisa forest from Boko Haram revealed the terrorists were receiving the information of the movements of the military.

Asuokaa:
Nigerian troops in North-east Joint Task ForceThe Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant Kenneth Minimah has said that more troops and equipment have been deployed to Sambisa forest to enhance military operations there and flush out the terrorists from their last stronghold.

Speaking to journalists during the commissioning of the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Medical Centre in Jaji Kaduna State on Monday, General Minimah insisted that the military has neither retreated nor stopped the onslaught against the Boko Haram terrorists in Sambisa forest or other parts of the north east.

In considering the future and long term perceptions of the critical role the Nigerian Army would play in contemporary local and international peacekeeping operations and the need to carter for the well-being of its troops, the Federal Republic of Germany through its Technical Assistance Group in Nigeria, constructed and equipped the medical centre, meant to cater for the immediate health needs of the troops.

The Army Chief expressed optimism that the facility will enhance the status of the Peacekeeping Centre as a centre of excellence. He, therefore, called on the personnel to make judicious use of the medical facility.

On his part, the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Michael Zenner explained that the decision by his country to donate the medical centre to the Nigerian Army was due to the bilateral relations between Germany and Nigeria, especially in the areas of military support. He commended the Nigerian government for conducting a peaceful and credible elections which he said was the best ever in the history of the nation’s electoral process.

While calling on the incoming government of General Muhammadu Buhari to consolidate on the democratic success, the German Ambassador gave the assurance of his country’s readiness to continue to partner with Nigeria to further develop its economy and democracy.
