Religion / What Bible Says About Love And Emotions by cherry6(f): 4:44pm On Apr 27, 2022
Feeling love is OK – in fact God has apparently “hard wired” us to “feel” love.

And that “feeling” of love is rarely more prominent than it in a wedding ceremony where a young couple exchanges their vows of love. That emotion of love is part of what has drawn them to that commitment in their lives.

What is interesting is that in I Corinthians 13, there is almost no discussion of love as emotion.

Will you marry me?
I stared into his eyes and smiled. How will you ask such a question from a lady you just met? Do you even know what you want? How long has it been since you have such intention? Do you even know anything about me? All these were the questions bothering my mind as I never hesitated pouring them out.

He held my hand and spoke so convincingly, “it’s you I wanna spend the rest of my life with”. I couldn’t just believe it was the truth. All my life, I’ve known and have been made to believe men are cheats. I was lost in between my own thoughts, although I felt relaxed and so much comfortable being around him. I tried not to show it, but my incessant laughter gave me away. I was happy!
Few months before then, I lost what seemed like my virginity to the guy I was dating. Immediately it happened, my hatred toward him began and eventually grew to its peak as I never wanted to see him, hear from him or meet him ever again.

He was the one guy whom I decided to take our long friendship into relationship, considering the fact that he has been in love with me years before I eventually gave in trial whether we could make things work. Maybe he wasn’t really in love, but because he knew I was a virgin, wanted to take advantage.

Forward to months later, here I am with this new guy, fighting my negative thoughts and considering giving one more chance for love to build a new home with the pieces left inside my heart.

Shackles of Love -Episode 2

I was growing to like him. We would chat every time we're online, even when one of us is not, the free one would call the other to join. The feelings started developing in few days. Could it be because I needed consolation for my heartbreak or was I really falling this time? I felt so confused but the feelings were nice. I asked if he has a girlfriend but he said no. I wasn't trying to look like the good girl, but I was trying to save myself the stress of getting heart attack due to jealousy or sharing my man with any other lady.

Men! Men and their deceit... Don't think you know what I mean, smiles, you don't!
He might actually have a girlfriend and pretend no to, so as to get to you. Men could always hide behind the curtain or even in the wardrobe... Hahahaha

It all started bit after bit, one thing led to the other and we finally started dating. He would wait to pick me up after lectures, sometime comes to my hostel if we didn't have the opportunity to meet in school. For the first time, a male was coming to my hostel and it really made people, or do I say gossipers to have a big topic of discussion. My room mates were not left out, I introduced him to them and the little friends I have.

Wasn't that a big mistake?

Hello.. Hello… Hello.. I can’t hear you, hello, I don’t know why the network is fluctuating. He moved out side the house to receive the call while closing the door behind him. For some days now, that has been his usual way of receiving some calls. I said some, because it’s not all calls.

Food is ready, I told him as he returns from his urgent call. He sat as I set the table to eat. Dear, concentrate on your food and stop being distracted by that phone you’re punching profusely.

I must say, it’s quite alarming the way my husband surf social medias nowadays. While eating, bathing, driving, at midnight when he ought to be sleeping and even at work, that phone is automatically his companion as he no longer pays attention to me in the house.

On this certain day, his phone has just rang as usual and I decided to take it to the room, but it disconnected before I got to him.

Meanwhile, a message displayed on the screen, a love message from another woman just delivered. I was heartbroken.

JOURNEY TO THE UNKNOWN (Episode 2) - By Kolawole Victoria

The road was stagnant. Vehicles refused to leave their spots. Hmmmm… What a day!
I regretted waiting till Sunday immediately.

I stared as far as my eyes could see, to know maybe the cause of the traffic was distance ahead but I found nothing, as my eyes was nothing compared to a microscope. I saw masses trekking along the way, faster than vehicles could ever move at that moment. Some even decided to take bike despite its exorbitant prices to various destinations. I was left with just #1000, therefore left to make my decisions, whether to embark on my journey or hope that the blockage clears away.

I called a bike , told him my destination which was Ibafo and waited for him to tell me price. I was then told bike couldn’t go pass Kara which would cost me #1000.
Kara was just half way, I would need more money if I’m to get to my destination. I picked up my phone as all my thought was on how to get more money at hand. My account was in red. I called some people owing me money to tell them the urgency of sending that money immediately.

I waited for few minutes for several alerts but nothing came through. It then dawned on me to begin my journey on foot.
Hahahaha, you actually won’t know the real distance of a place if you’ve always been in your father’s car. I trekked for an hour but felt so famished as I haven’t had any meal that morning and at that point I dare not touch that money, else… You know what will happen now… Smiles.

After about an hour of non stop movement, I decided to call another bike with the hope that the fare would have reduced. Guess what? It actually did. The bike now costs #800. I’ve been able to cover a distance worth #200. I met a lady with two guyz travelling to Ibadan, as friendly as I am, I striked a conversation with them, and in minutes, we started rolling as friends and have decided to take bike together, a lady to a guy (As Lagos babe, we no dey carry last at all). We were finally able to get bike which costs #1000 for two passengers. That felt better, because it’s just like paying #500/person.

We boarded the bike and it took us to Kara, taking every route that led to Kara including bushes. As soon as we got close to the place, we alighted from the bike and trekked further to see the cause of the traffic as nobody ever told us… There we found different Nigerian forces, controlling the vehicles to stop like 25m away.

Lo and behold! A petrol tanker has leaked fuel all over the road and vehicles were stopped at distance to prevent engine heat from igniting the fire.
To leave the vehicles side, I had no choice than walk through the petrol , past the tanker and get to the other side of the road so I can reach safety.

Don’t forget I’m still going with my new found friends, everyone stood behind as I summoned courage and decided to ask a LASTMA if I could go through. Yes, but make sure you run at your highest speed and without having a mobile phone.

I decided to give it a trial, despite the caution. I removed my from from my pocket and dropped it down the load I was carrying. I stepped my foot into the petrol and took the highest speed I could, I instantly forgot my new friends, my mind went to different things in seconds.

I remembered the just exploded tanker at Otedola bridge, burning hundreds of people, I remembered how quickly a phone could explode in ones pocket even without petrol around, how fuel has caused families everlasting pain. My heartbeat increased as I got to the side of the tanker, I started reciting psalm 23, our popular prayer.

Suddenly, I found myself at the end of the road. What actually happened?

COLD - A book series (Chapter Two)

In Yoruba land, it is customary to name a child after a remarkable event that took place during the childbirth. A boy in my class called Bankole earlier explained that he was given that name by his father owing to the fact that it was during his conception that he (the father) was able to successfully complete a building of his own.

Enitan, our neighbour’s daughter that I considered to be my friend, owing to some things that we share in common (zeal to learn and unmatchable intelligence), once narrated that her mother passed on during child birth. Thus, the name enitan (eni itan; the person with a story to be told) was seen as being appropriate.

Ever since Enitan’s mother passed on, her aunties from both paternal and maternal sides had been taking turns like they were to follow a roster just to ensure the upkeep of Enitan. There were even times that she would enjoy the cozy of both aunts as they would appear unannounced simultaneously. Though most people, most especially neighbours and church members had on several occasions suggested that she be given to either of her grandparents for proper upbringing. The father remained adamant and unyielding. His decision was irrevocable due to the experience he had as a child living with his uncle. He had the vowed to keep Enitan to himself no matter what.

Enitan’s father had also refused to remarry unless Enitan turned ten. His patience to remarry had been met with the surreal thought of his child’s welfare.

“Enitan is growing to be more inquisitive and curious”,

Enitan explain the manner at which her father soliloquized after dropping a call of a lady she envisaged to be her prospective step mother.

“The idea of getting a mother for her may never be okay with her”, she added sounding like water that had been trapped wading its way ferociously, while mimicking the raucous voice of her father.

Sholape, that’s my name but I find it difficult to link my name to any pleasant occourence at my birth. Could it be that it was intended to prod God over some unpleasant occourences at my birth? Olajumoke had secretely prayed to end happily wth Adesheye. During their private times in their eldorado, Adesheye had confessed how he found himself the most fortunate man to have met Olajumoke. He failed to deny that it was indeed sacrificial for Olajumoke to have turned down millions of offers from several suitors only to consider him.

“Your beauty would make angels want to peep at your unclothedness”,

He once joked while she blushed helplessly.

Olajumoke returned the compliment by testifying that she considers herself the most fortunate lady to have accepted Adesheye’s proposal.

“Which woman in her right state of mind will turn a good looking, well to do and God fearing men like you down” she asked rhetorically. They were these two lovebirds that would flock and perch from one branch to the other together until they seem to be clumsily jostling against each other.

Sometimes, you can pinpoint the exact moment in your life when things begin to go wrong. For Adesheye, it was the day he was laid off from work. He had toiled and was anticipating promotion only to be faced with this forlorn gloomy sky.

He had been working with a multinational courier firm as the brokerage administrative officer. There was never a time he enjoyed doing the job but he had to continue as he considered it as punches at the corner of the ring. He couldn’t throw in the towel and he knew it wasn’t going to be the end. At least, he had take-home on monthly basis.

He had vowed to add to his credentials for smooth transition to the upper cadre of the firm. All of a sudden his efforts headed for the rock. Hot tears ran through his cheek like athletes would compete for 100 metres glory as he reluctantly entered into the hospital ward. Olajumoke had been there since a a day before then. As he was about to find his seat beside the bed, he looked at Olajumoke with derision. Though, he once again looked at her but this time with pity.

The baby in the cot close to Olajumoke’s bed was a beautiful female who looked glorious and cute. Olajumoke was deeply asleep and not even her loud snore could wake her. Adesheyeye moved to the bed and dropped two pieces of papers beside the pillow that Olajumoke was resting her head. Without wasting time, he headed towards the door and slammed it behind himself.

Olajumoke woke up from sleep like a man with a bad dream and she was sweating profusely. It must have been the loud bang of the door that interrupted her sleep. Could there be something different? Could she have been dreaming? As she was still tensed, she looked beside her pillow and saw the two paperes left by Adesheye. She gently opened one and it had as its heading,

“Courier Extra PLC

RE: Termination of Contract…..”

She read it through and discovered that Adesheye left the letter there. she looked perturbed and scurried around as if looking for something that is not lost. She tried to settle down and picked up the second paper with a sudden tremor. She leaned against the wall and opened it.

“Dear Olajumoke,

It is never going to be a good way to say goodbye. i have always known this from the onset but i stayed on hoping there was going to be a twist in fate.

I am sorry that i have to leave this way. it is the best thing I can do for myself as a young man and the family. As you must have seen it, I was laid off today. I should have hearkened to the voice of Iya Sheye…”

She looked away in disappointment and shook her head and passed out.

Literature / My Choir Master - A Story By Kolawole Victoria by cherry6(f): 6:06am On Mar 31, 2019
Hello Sir, good afternoon Sir, how’s everyone over there? I’m calling to report my husband to you. For months now, he doesn’t eat at home and he doesn’t drop any money for the upkeep of the family anymore. I’ve apologized on countless times , despite not knowing what my offense is. Are you sure you of what you’re saying? He asked. Yes Sir, I responded.

Mr Adekunle happens to be my husband uncle whom he lived with till we got married since his parent died when they were younger. He has a younger sister who also lived with another member of the family in other part of the country before coming to live with my husband and I after our marriage.

Mr Adekunle was that one special man in the family, who embraces everyone , both nuclear and extended. He’s a man who sought after the progress of his family member, old and young. When my husband completed his secondary education, Mr Adekunle helped him secure job as a clerk in his office when he works as a director in a sector.

After the job, he ensured my husband bagged his bachelor degree with a part time study in one of the prestigious university in Nigeria. The man is all a man could wish of as a father. His wife, just another mother for everyone. They both have similar characteristics. Very charitable and embracing. She doesn’t push anyone who comes to her husband for help away. As a matter of fact, I’ve not seen a woman so calm and loving as her in this generation of ours.

My husband, Olamide and I got married after his graduation. We met in a church program held at a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church. He was an instrumentalist while I was a choir member. The marriage was said to have been wriiten by God and I never disagreed. I’m a kind of lady who agrees with what men of God says because I believe they are our father on earth and messengers from God.

We were told not to make the wedding a lousy one. The day came and we just went to the church to pray, the pastor performed the necessary rites and we returned home. Only few members of our family were invited. Pictures weren’t even taken on that special day that every lady would want to display the best of themselves with their lovely friends as bridesmaids.

Mine was different, because I never wanted to oppose the word of God or do my own wish to avoid any problem that might want to arise in future as a result of that.

If I was told my journey would end in that manner on that very auspicious day, I would have argued.

It was a Sunday morning in the city of Ikeja, Lagos. Activities went on as usual. The busy road, hawkers, conductors and all the road distractions weren’t left behind. I had just left my place of work.

Wondering why I was returning from work on a Sunday? Saturday had been a very busy day at work, I had so many duties to deliver, so I stayed late in the office and was unable to go home. I then decided to wait since the next morning was a Sunday. The office was conducive enough because we have some staff who even stay at the office apartment temporarily.

I woke up, had my bath, dressed up, picked up my backpack and the handbag containing some things I had purchased for home use days before and began my journey as early as possible because I couldn’t afford to miss the service at my church.

I set out on this journey. Boarded a bus going to Ojodu berger. Normally, I love to board a bus going to Berger straight so that I would alight on the other side of the road without stressing myself crossing or climbing the overhead bridge. This day, luck wasn’t on my side so I decided to board the Ojodu Berger’s bus. The journey wasn’t really stressful.

No hike in price, good road, smooth pace and a convenient bus at that. I relaxed as we drove all the way to Berger, where I then alighted.

I walked a bit, then climbed that bridge. I saw lots of people starring down the other side. So, as curious as I was, I decided to double my steps so I could also have a clear view of whatsoever it was going on. I got to the spot , and there it was!
I couldn’t believe my eyes…

Literature / COLD (A Book Series) - Chapter One by cherry6(f): 10:06pm On Mar 21, 2019
She came home that night looking out of place. She looked as if she had done the job that was meant to be partitioned and done by hundred people. Her look was the direct opposite of what she left home with about thirteen hours ago when she left for her office. The kerosene lantern placed in front of the 14″ coloured tubed television was slowly burning that you could barely see the the lines in the palms of your hands.

The lantern was reduced to produce such dim light just to preserve the kerosene and to enable it burn longer. Nonetheless, the forlorn darkness in the living room was sent into extinct.

I could see grimace on her face. It was just one of the uncountable nights from office. She was dog tired. The Mary K and other make up she wore in the morning were washing down that you could see lines of sweat running through her face from her forehead like the mark left behind by a score of earthworms on a rainy day. She struggled to open the sliding door made of glass and aluminum – used to frame up the fragile door. I quickly dashed down to the door and effortlessly opened it for her to come in. ” Welcome ma”, I went down on my knees to greet her. Doing this wasn’t just a custom in this house. It meant another thing that I will probably talk about if need be. She couldn’t open her mouth to give a response. Though she nodded her head in acknowledgement to my greetings.

Adebimpe, the youngest child at home was deep asleep on the three-sitter sofa that criss-crossed with other chairs in the living room. You would have probably mistook her for someone that had just participated in the swimming competition at the Olympics. She already had traces of the night lizard she ate drawn from the corner of her mouth to her jaw. The temperature in the room could poach an egg, and this was visible on ‘Bimpe as she sweat profusely even while deeply asleep.

Mama snailed towards one of the chairs in the living room as she flung her shoes from her legs, which went stray and into nowhere in particular. Finally, her feet regained the freedom her leg had been deprived of since she left home that morning. The finely knitted gray polyester jacket mixed with cotton on her was thrusted off her body and jettisoned on the three-sitter sofa that the water making factory young ‘Bimpe was lying. In my confused state, I didn’t know the next combination of lines I could make that would descend the once in a blue moon knockout punch Mama normally use on occasions like this. To be on the safe side was to remain mute till she will peradventure starts a conversation.

Literature / The Girl Called Damilola (episode 2) by cherry6(f): 7:56am On Aug 29, 2018
I couldn't sleep all through the night and darkness refused to pave way to light.
All I could remember was Damilola's voice echoeing in my head.

In the morning, I forgot to brush my teeth and didn't remember to take my bath as I ran like a mad man to my pastor.
On getting to the church, I met my pastor singing to God in different postures. The house of God was decorated with different pictures.

He looked at me in disdain, just because of what I wore to the church.
To cut the story short, I told my pastor what went wrong and he offered to pray for me.
As he was about praying for me, his phone gave a thunderous shout, ringing. He brought out the phone from his pocket but saw no number despite it ringing.
But yet, he picked up the call, then he heard the unimaginable; "Pastor, Dont try to fool yourself or else you would be dealt with" she said!

On hanging up the call, he told me not to be afraid, that the devil is a liar.
He told me to close my eyes which I did but i couldn't hear anything.
Not even "In Jesus name" did he say.

On opening my eyes, behold! the pastor was nowhere to be found,
I ran as far as my legs could carry me, out of the church when I sighted a statue winking at me with it eyes opened right inside the church where I thought would be safe.

Few hours later, I heard that the pastor was discovered at a nearby forest
being tied to a tree with marks on his body.

Literature / The Girl Called Damilola - Episode 1 by cherry6(f): 5:53pm On Aug 07, 2018
Damilola is a girl I know like the back of her yansh.
She is as beautiful as a peacock despite the fact that she never used any make up.
I wondered where she came from, which made me so confused.

Flashback to how we met;
I met Damilola down the sloppy street, moving in haste.
Hello babe, how u doing? I asked
I'm fine, thank you. She said
We had few more conversations as it wasn't hard getting along perfectly.

To cut the story short, I collected her digit without giving her my digit.
On getting home that day, I quickly had my bath and dressed up hastily like I was going to write my final exam.
I picked up my phone to call my new sweet bae, but to my surprise, I saw my phone dancing one corner.

Instead of the usual phone call light, it was total darkness. Yet, ringing so loud.
I immediately knew something was amiss.
I picked up the call and heard the strangest voice of my life saying; "I know you are surprise seeing my number but we never miss a member. We are daughters of the under world and we shall be visiting you from time to time,"

On hearing Damilola's voice, I began to shiver. I knew I was in a big trouble because I never gave her my contact.
I never knew trouble has just commenced, until it started to rain in my room but never rained outside.
