THE CORRUPTION CALLED APGA While we may agree that Willie Obiano may be clean because he is a new comer to politics, the same cannot be said of his running mate, Nkem OKEKE who was a former commissioner of works in the first term of office of Gov. Peter Obi. Nkem Okeke was alleged to be the master mind of the squandering of about 50 Billion Naira during three months reign of Gov Virgy Etiaba, following the impeachment of Gov Obi. Note that Nkem Okeke was subsequently sacked by Gov. Obi upon reinstatement by court. His reason for sacking Nkem Okeke as alleged bordered on embezzlement, misappropriation and abuse of public trust and office. Following Gov Obi's desperate move to mend fences with Victor Umeh, APGA chairman in order to secure a platform to foist his god son on Anambrarian, Umeh like Obi insisted on foisting his own god son as a running mate to Obi's god son, thus the emergence of Obiano/Okeke candidacy. Like a gang of looters, the offices have been shared, so also will our common wealth be shared among these men. The moral question is, how come Commissioner Okeke who was sacked by Gov Obi for culpability in mismanagement and/ or embezzlement be suddenly found worthy for the post of deputy governor? |

let forget sentiments, adaobi is a tribalist.the Road that passes Agulu till date was constructed by Ngige. What has Obi done to the Alor community since he became gov.he only boast of distributing desktop computers in billboards where there is no electricity to power them and structures to house them.IF OBI TRULY LOVES ANAMBRA PEOPLE,WHY WILL HE IMPOSE a MD OF A BANK HE LITERALLY OWNS AND BEING THE CHAIRMAN OF FIDELITY (''former'') BANK.IS IT NOT TO CONTINUE His PLUNDERING OF ANAMBRA STATE RESOURCE WHILE THE PEOPLE WALLOW IN ABJECT POVERTY. |

Govt. should always weigh their decisions.nobody can assume the summary intelligent of the people.you dont just sit down and make laws without it going through public debate, well thats d flaws of not having oppositions in d house of assembly which leads to automatic signing of bills into laws. What has the Govt. Provide to cushion the effect of those such decision will retrench. You dont take a mans bike(okada),his only source of livelihood and expect him to take it with equanimity. The Govt. Should be ready for the consequences. |

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will Saturday host the Nigeria Paralympics Team to a special reception at the Banquet Hall of the State House Villa in Abuja. The team drew encomiums from sports enthusiasts across the nation for their impressive outing at the London 2012 Paralympics in contrast to the woeful outing of the able bodied Olympic contingent to the 2012 London Olympics. Also to be given the special treat, are the Falconets, the country’s Under 20 football team to the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Japan. The Paralympic team, which returned to the country on Tuesday, placed 22nd out of 164 countries which took part at the Games having won six gold, five silver and two bronze medals. They were third in Africa. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr Labaran Maku told State House correspondent that the president in appreciation of the effort the teams made decided to give them a befitting welcome. According to him, the entire Federal Executive Council (FEC) will be at hand to also support the president in receiving the Falconets, who he described as ‘scintillating performers’ who are number two in Africa and did well on the global pitch defeating the best in the world. Maku said of the Paralympics team: “Their performance wiped away our tears of the lacklustre performance of the able- bodied Nigerian Olympic team.” He commended the passion exhibited by the Paralympics team, observing that what their achievement has shown is that “no matter your physical challenge you can give your country lots of honour.” http://thisdaylive.com/articles/jonathan-to-host-paralympic-team-falconets-saturday/124795/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter |
Real Madrid would be willing to sell Cristiano Ronaldo for a €200 million fee if they cannot resolve his current situation at the club, Goal.com can confirm. The Portuguese superstar refused to celebrate his two goals during the 3-0 win over Granada on September 2, and claimed in the wake of the match that he was unhappy. The former Manchester United man is one of 17 players returning to training on Wednesday after international duty and there has been a wave of speculation regarding his future at the club. However, Los Blancos are determined to tackle the crisis and will hold talks between the player, coach Jose Mourinho and president Florentino Perez. Although Ronaldo himself was quick to deny that a desire for a pay rise was the reason for his current state of melancholy, rumours have persisted that the Portuguese is eyeing an improved contract. The Real Madrid No.7 earns nearly €10m annually on his current contract, a significantly lower sum than players such as Samuel Eto’o (€20m) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (€14.5m). Spain’s tax laws have undergone a recent change, and Madrid would now have to pay a 52 per cent tax on the player’s wages compared to the current 24%. This means that if they offer Ronaldo a contract in the region of €15m annually, they will be forced to pay over €23m each year after tax. Perez has voiced his confidence that the winger will not leave the Bernabeu, but ABC news reports that two mystery clubs, believed to be Paris Saint-Germain and Anzhi Makhachkala, would be prepared to offer him a €20m annual salary. The capital club paid an unprecedented €100m fee for his services in 2009, and he could be set for another world-record transfer if the talks prove to be fruitless. http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/09/12/clubs-interested-buying-cristiano-ronaldo-pay-e200-million/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=clubs-interested-buying-cristiano-ronaldo-pay-e200-million |
Indications emerged last night that the Federal Government may create two new states, and one of the beneficiaries of the additional state will be the Southeast region.http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/09/12/creation-new-states-south-east-get-one-jonathan-pushes-two/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=creation-new-states-south-east-get-one-jonathan-pushes-two |

The Federal Government has maintained its ground to support the bid by the Central Bank to introduce and print N5, 000 notes in the country. Minister of National Planning, Dr. Usman Shamsudeen who gave the hint while speaking to State House Correspondents after a meeting of the Economic Management Team (EMT) said the endorsement of the N5000 note by the EMT followed an approval of the currency by President Goodluck Jonathan. "Obviously, the discussion today was basically to endorse. Mr. President had already approved; that is the only requirement by law. The CBN is to propose and Mr. President is to approve. And since Mr. President has approved, really what is important is to just explain. I personally had some concerns about the coins but since some discussion with the CBN governor, he has actually clarified that even the media didn't get it", the minister said. Arguing that the N5000 note, unlike some people were misrepresenting it, was not going to lead to higher inflation, Samsudeen also hinted that CBN was going to communicate to Nigerians that the coins will run concurrently with the naira notes they are replacing as a form of test-run for Nigerians to accept them first. He said, "There is absolutely no link. I am an economist. I have been deputy governor operations of the Central Bank. In the last review of the introduction of N1000 note and the various coins I was deeply involved, it was my responsibility at the central bank. There is absolutely no link between inflation and the currency denomination. "The coins are being introduced on an introductory basis so that if people accept them and are using them, then gradually they will withdraw the other notes but they will run concurrently with the notes. Those were my concerns initially because you remember during my time in the CBN, we introduced the one naira and two naira coins. Unfortunately, they were not utilized at all. Part of that is really the value of one naira and two naira today. What can you buy? On the contention that there is a link between the N5000 note and corruption, he said, "It is an area that I obviously know nothing about. I think people alleged that part of that corruption is being done in dollars. A $100 bill is N16,000 and N5000 note will be $30. So, which one is bigger to carry if you are doing corruption? "So, I don't think it is necessarily going to increase the level of corruption. Those doing corruption will probably find that too small. $100 bill is still bigger than the N5,000 note", the minister added. http://www.leadership.ng/nga/articles/34161/2012/09/04/no_going_back_n5000_note_fg.html |
Patience Jonathan’s medical trip update: Illness started in Dubai. The “food poisoning” condition that landed Mrs. Patience Jonathan in a hospital in Germany reportedly started in Dubai eleven days ago where she had gone to see a doctor because her hands were twitching. Presidency sources said she had gone to Dubai after the recent African First Ladies Summit in Abuja, an event that imposed an unfamiliar and grueling schedule of meetings and late nights on Mrs. Jonathan, saying she needed some rest. Her visit to Dubai was explained as a vacation but our sources said it involved a medical procedure, while in Dubai, she reportedly had “food poisoning” alongside her medical doctor, soon after she returned to Abuja last Monday, the emergency broke and she had to be airlifted to Wiesbaden, Germany for food poisoning. Since SaharaReporters broke the news yesterday, the Presidency has officially kept mum about the First Lady’s condition. Despite a media arm recently fortified to give Mrs. Jonathan a more aggressive press presence, it has provided neither denial nor confirmation. Last night, Ayo Adewuyi, the First Lady’s media aide, told us that he had himself only just returned from vacation, and pleaded for time to respond to our inquiries. When we called him today to find out if he had found out Mrs. Jonathan’s whereabouts, he confirmed that she was in Germany and pleaded to let him send a press statement regarding the issue. Several hours later, he insisted that he was still working on a statement. There have, however, been half-hearted denials and spins in some newspapers http://www.dailypost.com.ng/2012/09/04/patience-jonathans-medical-trip-update-illness-started-dubai/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=patience-jonathans-medical-trip-update-illness-started-dubai |
The new traffic law passed by the Lagos State Government has drawn the ire of commercial motorcycle operators in the state and they have decided to drag the government to court calling for a reversal of the law. The defendants in the suit are the Lagos State Government, the Lagos State House of Assembly, and the Attorney-General of Lagos State, Mr. Ade Ipaye. According to reports, the group, operating under the aegis of the All Nigerians Autobike Commercial Owners and Workers Association (ANACOWA), is seeking an order of court restraining the state government from prohibiting them from operating on the major highways listed in Items 1-11 and other parts of Schedule II of the new traffic law. The association, through its lawyer, Mr. Bamidele Aturu, is praying the court to restrain the Lagos State Government from molesting, harassing, arresting, seizing their motorcycles or subjecting them to any treatment nor suffered by any other road users. It claims the new law is a violation of their rights to freedom of movement and it constitutes a major barrier to achieving a legitimate means of livelihood as well as adequate opportunity to secure suitable employment for themselves. Among other prayers, the ANACOWA is also asking the court to order the state government and its agencies to release motorcyles seized from their members by the defendant. http://www.ynaija.com/okada-operators-sue-lagos-state-seek-reversal-of-new-traffic-law/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |

A message in a bottle has been pulled from the ocean 98 years after it was written , and officials say it is the world’s oldest of its kind. Scottish fisherman Andrew Leaper found the letter in his nets while sailing off of Scotland’s northern coast. And on Thursday, Guinness World Records confirmed that is the old message in a bottle ever found, beating the previous record holder by five years. “As we hauled in the nets I spotted the bottle neck sticking out and I quickly grabbed it before it fell back in the sea,” Leaper, 43, told the BBC. “It was very exciting to find the bottle and I couldn’t wait to open it.” Amazingly, the previous record holder was found by the same boat, the Shetland-based “Copious.” “We are pleased to hear that the same vessel helped to break the Guinness World Record for oldest message in a bottle twice,” said a spokesperson for Guinness World Records. “This is a fascinating record, both historically and scientifically. In 1914, Scottish Captain C.H. Brown of the Glasgow School of Navigation released 1,890 bottles as part of a government experiment to map the undercurrents of the seas around Scotland. Each bottle contained a postcard asking the finder to record details of where the bottle was located. The letter also promises a reward of sixpence, which the AP notes no longer exists. “It was an amazing coincidence,” Leaper said of being on the same boat that broke both records. “It’s like winning the lottery twice.” And it’s entirely possible that the record could be broken on another voyage, as only 350 of the original bottles have been discovered.
