But being honest, Owerri is in every aspect finer than Áwka and Onitsha combined, is that one up for argument too? Awka is just Expressway and 3 Flyover, Roban and Everyday, single lanes, and one dual lane that leads to nowhere. Zero nightlife aside Abakeleke Street. But as a state generally, Anambra is very much far ahead of Imo State. Orlu can only compete with Otuocha, Ekwulobia and Ihiala. Okigwe can compare to Agulu or Okija.
When was last time we had this kind of massiveroad constructionin Anambra? That shows and tells how terrible our roads are before today. May Soludo succeed..
NwekereNdoki: DOn't mind the mediocree. We call out bad governance so that the standard will be high but people like him will lower the bar because of peanuts. Given the resources Obiano inherited, he should be stoned for leaving Awka and Onitsha the way it is without any standard signature road..
At one point in their life, they will be fine. Until then, they are free to call people names because that is what they will do in 3, 2, 1....
ANSMEDIA: Please stop embarrassing yourself here. Though I am not here to measure dick with you but it is an insult to compare your mediocre incompetent governor Ikpeazu who failed woefully as a governor of Abia state to a progressive minded governor like Obiano who didn't just build urban and rural roads but equally bequeathed Anambra with a spanking brand new international airport, International convention centre, stadium, flyovers, bridges, hospitals, schools, and equally meeting up the monthly dues of civil servants, etc. No government can finish all the road projects in eight years. The last I checked your governor Ikpeazu is owing civil servants over 30months salary arrears not to talking of fixing Abia roads which is adjudged the worst in Nigeria. But you always appear to feel that all is well with your state. You have been the one derailing this thread from time, and now you have a willing partner that you constantly quote in your mischievous attempts to derail this thread. If you had put in this type of effort on issues concerning Abia, I don't think your governor would turn to a PA to Gov Wike. Respect yourself and focus more on your state than constantly coming here to deceive yourself.
Anambra has 4 major cities, Áwka, Nnewi, Onitsha, and Ekwulobia. Ihiala can be added to the mix. In 8yrs, mention 2 roads each, done by Obiano in the 4 cities, just 2 roads per city. We will wait.
In as much as this is 2014, it says a lot. For those hear shouting Obi and Obiano upandan. Victor Umeh, we all know how far. I wo der what Obi and Obiano haters will do when the two reconcile, and move on, not that they are quarrelling though. Keep spewing Obi and Obiano matter to increase page numbers, not that it matters.
There are one or two people here, who are patiently waiting for Peter Obi to lose the elections, so they will bare their fangs and continue their Obiano and Obi comparison. They rather Obi lose, instead of him to outshine their paymaster. We still have a long way to go as a tribe and people. God knows..
globemoney01: Stop quoting me this scammer. tell us the story of your supernatural estate martinelect.
Go and verify if it is under lock and key from the day of commissioning till date. I will ignore you afterwards, unless you start asking me out again. Oji amụ eji ego.
globemoney01: It’s not by this one say, that one say. Where is the evidence. Go and pick any caretaker committee chairman that worked with Obiano and compare with Obi stop embarrassing yourself
This particular project commissioned by Osinbajo has been under lock and key the moment after the commissioning till date. That warehouse behind shoe site, Osile, Ogbunike. Tell us another story.
This is just what they want, to and fro with no meaningful or reasonable engagement. They say things that will force you to reply, then they brag their thread has over a thousand pages. They will use it to lobby Soludo to be his Media assistants, nothing else. We created a page in Nairaland that has thousands of engagements. We all should learn to ignore them, give everything time, we will know between Mbadinuju, Ngige, Obi and Obiano who actually did well for Ndị Anambra. If truly it is outnof love for Anambra, when was the last time they posted stuffs about progress in Anambra if not to bring Willie and Obi debate, Airport and ICC, what else? Take away that content, okwu agwụ. Let us all focus on Soludo, and they will die a natural death, and forgotten. May Soludo Succeed, and may Peter Obi win the Presidency..
May Peter Obi, one of the best things to have ever happened to Anambra State win the President, and May Soludo succeed.. Anambra will be the light of the nation yet again..
NwekereNdoki: SE and Ndi Igbi have the money and intelligence. What we lack is government coordination via policies and frameworks/blueprints. That's what we need to get right.
Personally, I don't rate any governor that builds urban roads without underground drainage, pedestrian sidewalk and bicycle lane in this 21st century.
My earnest prayer is for Soludo to build better roads that have been built in Anambra. I was born and raised in PH. PH stopped building roads without underground 12 years ago. Wike has not awarded any road without an underground drainage system and pedestrian way.
We need Onitsha roads to be wide and better
When we have Governors that still see shopping malls as progress, still brag about payment of salaries, what do you expect? Soludo wants to borrow, to build a befitting Government House, we still have a long way to go. And we are not ready yet..
OreMI22: Mister, Unlike you that come here to sing praises for 10k or 20k, neither Obiano nor Peter can afford me. I even donated to Peter Obi. So all my effort is for the progress of Anambra state. If money would change hands, its likely me paying them and never the other way round. As i said, they can't afford me to even consult 1hr for them.
Obiano worked despite what you revisionists write about him. Of course it was obvious that in the last three years of his administration, he devoted every available resource to complete the airport. Which was a good strategy. Else it would have become the worst atrocious abandoned project in Anambra's history had he not completed it. Of course even during the campaign, Soludo acknowledged that the state of the roads deserve a state of emergency to be declared on roads in Anambra.
Soludo would have realized that the state's allocation could only pay salaries. Raising taxes to a level that will guarantee significant development resources would be very very unpopular. Thus the reason for suggesting developing a LASTMA style traffic agency to stem the spate of reckless driving in the state, while generating huge IGR from fining these perpetual dangerous drivers. Also using Direct Labour under professional engineers as supervisors for his roads emergency project later this year.
The only issue is whether Soludo would device a system of accepting traffic fines payments only via POS to ensure there are no leakages that will defeat the purpose.
Is that guilty conscience because I didn't remember stating anywhere that you were paid. Whatever you are is inside your house, nobody is dragging your worth with you. I live under the bridge, and I have access to internet, that's where I am writing from. I get money from men that sleep with me, but that's for me to worry about.
abuzz33: Don't mind them. That fat, lazy commissioner of works ifejiofor abandoned maintaining roads and clearing drainage to tell us the runway at anambra airport was longest in Nigeria.
From the looks of it, Soludos commissioner of works doesn't have much brain either.
I am surprised. Because, the "Massive Infrastructural Decay" sounds foreign with what we keep reading here. My major concern is Soludo, let him not end up as Obi or Obiano, that's not progress, he ought to outperform them combined. May Anambra succeed.
OreMI22: I observed in total dismay that all internal township roads in onitsha, Nnewi and Awka had totally collapsed with huge swimming pools called potholes!
Gov. Soludo must understand that N100 billion naira will scratch the surface of massive infrastructural decay in Onitsha and Nnewi. Not to mention Awka, Ekwulobia, and Aguleri. Unless he uses DIRECT LABOUR!
For Direct Labour to work, he has to plan it differently from the traditional direct labour utilizing ministry of works. He should employ qualified civil engineers from reputable construction companies to design and supervise the direct labourers. He should also invest in road construction equipment to make their work of high quality.
Also, i was shocked that Anambra government was stressing itself on how to raise taxes to generate IGR when there was ample vehicles breaking traffic laws. When Soludo could easily create a Lagos Mass transit authority (LASMA) organization using OCHA brigade. Anyone breaking traffick rule is apprehended and fined 10k or 20k on the spot. They MUST pay via POS into the state account. No cash is accepted for traffic offenses.
Also big vehicles causing obstruction by parking on the road or abandoning broken down vehicles on the road are towed and fined 100k or 200k for trucks with goods. Soludo has lived abroad and knows that many local and city governments get their entire funding through issues of tickets against traffic offenders. So this idea should be quite obvious to him.
On just sanitizing Anambra roads and enforcing traffic laws, Soludo will get enough IGR to execute any project he wants. Moreso, people will praise the sanity and law of heavy traffic from blocked road junctions. Gov. Soludo must think outside the box to increase IGR and not merely the easy option of raising taxes.
Soludo must see the abundant financial opportunity in enforcing traffic rules and fining the abundant offenders according to their offenses. Enforcing traffic rules alone can double Anambra's IGR without even raising taxes on the already impoverished citizens.
It's less than 5 months of CC swearing in, why make a claim about "Massive Infrastructural Decay? I thought Willie was the best in Anambra in terms of infrastructure, what changed?
ebufa: I have been in the east these past 2 months, I had the opportunity to visit Awka twice, and I was not impressed with what I saw............ If after 4 months Soludo has not deemed it essential to do remedial work on the manageable portions of the Onitsha/Enugu that pass through his capital city, then we may be in for one massive disappointment............stormwater from the median drains is threatening to cut off portions of that key road and I saw massive potholes in front of the flyover bridges.......................................... The visit of these European leeches will not solve these immediate problems........the Chinese are a better choice as development partners or at least he should shine his torch light in that direction too..........Lagos has a brand new port in lekki courtesy of the Chinese.I wish Soludo well sha, he has a lot of work to do on the general outlook of the physical and bio environment of Anambra.
One suggestion is to construct dedicated trailer and bus parks for the thousands of heavy industrial and commercial vehicles blocking road access every minute of the day. I am sure the per capita ratio of such vehicles to residents in Anambra is the highest in Africa. It makes driving in Anambra a nightmare.......a situation made worse by massive markets encroaching on the roads............................Anambra needs "robust infrastructural development" backed with the requisite "political will". On political will, I will score soludo very high! but he has to start implementing his plans before he is overwhelmed!
What Willie Obiano no do for 8yrs you expect Soludo to do in 4 months, nawa for you..
HE HAS INVITED VAMPIRES AND BLOOD SUCKERS TO ANAMBRA STATE.
THEIR MISSION IS HOW TO EXPLIOT ANAMBRA GAS NEXT, AFTER USING OKOROCHA TO GAIN ACCESS TO IMO STATE GAS.
WHEN WILL YOU UNDERSTAND THAT ANYTHING INVOLVING BRITAIN WILL ALWAYS ONLY BENEFIT BRITAIN.
BRITAIN IS LEADING EU OUT OF RUSSIA TO COME AND TAKE THE GAS THEY KEPT IN IGBOLAND.
MAY GOD PUNISH ALL THOSE IN IGBO LAND THAT ARE PART OF GIVING AWAY OUR GOD GIVEN RESOURCES TO PEOPLE THAT WILL DEPORT YOU TO RWANDA AFTER ENTERING BRITAIN.
IT WILL NEVER BE WELL WITH THOSE THAT KEEP HOSTING EUROPEAN CRIMINALS IN IGBO LAND OVER THE DEAD BODIES OF OVER 3 MILLION THAT DIED, SO BRITAIN CAN DRINK CRUDE OIL.
I AM IN DEEP PAIN TO SEE ALL THIS GOING ON AND EVER MORE COMMITTED TO BIAFRA EXIT.
IF WE DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THE GAS IN IGBO LAND, LEAVE IT INSIDE THE GROUND, AND LET IT REMAIN THEIR FOR FUTURE GENERATION THAT MIGHT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT.
RUSSIA GAS IS FOR EUROPE AND BIAFRA GAS IS FOR AFRICA.
Ụ̀na see a retarded fellow, shouting in a thread, with Caps Lock, ụnụ́ na enye ya attention. Na this thread I knew na ụmụ nwoke dị jobless, nad gossip more than women. Tueh. SMH..
hammer567: Y IS IT DAT ALL THE SABO THAT FULANI HAVE PAID TO INVADE THIS THREAD ARE ALWAYS QUIET, EVERYTIME FULANI MURDER OUR PEOPLE, BOTH WOMEN, ELDERLY AND CHILDREN?
Chai.. You guys didn't tell and show us that the entrance ceiling of our International Conference Centre has collapsed and parked one side.? The best International Conference Centre in the world nwanụ̀? Less than 2 months after commissioning? The landscapes are looking horrible and terrible, the other entrance gate abandoned. Make water no carry am go one day. The road leading to it from Enugu/Onitsha Old Road should be the worst road in Africa. Globemoney01 and Chino, what went wrong?
Plenty of deaths in Anambra today; from Toll Gate to Slaughter, to Odumodu, to Afọ Igwe, to Abatete, to Adazi Nnukwu. It's really getting out of hand...
gordonbarrett: When Obi left 75B, did it mean our debt burden was zero Obiano did not grow the depth from zero to 120B. Governance expenditure was not only for airport and likes, neither is governance as simple as ABC.
Am an Obi fan, however you cannot litter uncompleted projects, and still be talking about savings.
From your response, Obi's debt were not serviced. I never said nor suggested that governance is easy, and how many of the uncompleted projects did Obiano complete? Nnewi Mall? Onitsha Hotel? Awka Mall? Let's not go to roads.
As for you being an Obi fan, I wonder when that one started, Chino?
Just thinking; Prof said Anambra is owing 120b.. The entire Obiano projects, Airport, ICC, Stadium, Áwka Flyover, add yours if you remember, are they upto 120b? We were told, we completed the ICC, Airport and Stadium without borrowing one kobo, how come the humongous terrible debt?
investnow2013: Latest on OBI CUBANA MALL IN ANAMBRA STATE. It will be on 3 Hecrates of Land. It will employ over1000 people directly and indirectly. It will be the Best in Nigeria!
