@ topic; depends on d situation i find my self in though, but i would always put my spouse 1st because i expect my mother 2 understand if she is really a mother she would.
Even d bible says a man would leave his family and cleave unto his wife where they would become 1 as in  . . . . " joined 2gether"  but it didnt say it d other way round like leavin your wife and cleavin unto your mother or extended families or relations. . . .  ^{my personally opinion though}
