Oga stop saying rubbish, make ur research. What USA used to sell one dollar in 1960 Is sold dsame one dollar today. It is only in Nigeria that we have economy crisis, that is why everyone is leaving Nigeria. You are the problem of this country because u always support corrupt and failure people as leaders Richtaiwo: Well, not by any chance supporting the current situation of the country, but this comparison no follow at all. If you go backward to let's say 1980, the cost of a bag of cement may even be less than N20. Minimum wage now is 30k, which is being reviewed. What was the average earnings in 1992? Even in the US, where you all take as model, prices of commodities in the nineties are not the same today. Global inflation is the word. As I said, I'm not by any chance supporting the current harsh situation in Nigeria but that comparison is off track. |

This is what Mr. Peter Obi has been pointing out since, but they said na statistics we go chop. The current president is dull, old and corrupt, him and his teams has no solution to our problems. malali: The Past Nigerian administration lack revenue generating ideas, they have been running the pocket money economy system. Instead of taking revenue generated from the oil boom since late 70's till date. They have just looted the money and used the rest to subsidize lifestyle of Nigerians (fuel subsidy). Now they can barely afford the subsidy and also pay salaries, pension and also politicians. So they are transferring the subsidy to the common man, this will free up cash for them to loot, and run the government. Eventually even without paying subsidy there still wont be enough cash to run the government (We are already in this stage, thats why they keep borrowing money up and down, which devalues our currency). See some countries that have also used the same oil to prosper their nation as a whole. Norway: Norway has built a sovereign wealth fund, known as the Government Pension Fund Global, which invests proceeds from oil and gas production. The fund is one of the largest in the world and has investments in various sectors globally, providing a stable source of income for the country.
United Arab Emirates (UAE): The UAE, particularly Dubai and Abu Dhabi, has diversified its economy beyond oil by investing heavily in sectors such as tourism, real estate, finance, and technology. Dubai, in particular, has become a global hub for trade, finance, and tourism.
Qatar: Qatar has leveraged its natural gas reserves to become one of the world's leading exporters of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Additionally, Qatar has invested in various sectors, including finance, real estate, and sports, to diversify its economy.
Singapore: Although Singapore does not produce oil itself, it has established itself as a major trading and refining hub for oil and petroleum products in the Asia-Pacific region. Singapore has also diversified its economy into sectors such as finance, shipping, biotechnology, and tourism.
Malaysia: Malaysia has developed a diverse economy, with thriving manufacturing, services, and tourism sectors alongside its oil and gas industry. The country has also invested in infrastructure projects and technology to support economic growth.
Netherlands: The Netherlands, home to one of Europe's largest natural gas reserves, has invested oil and gas revenues into developing a highly advanced economy with strong industries in agriculture, manufacturing, trade, and services.
These countries serve as examples of how strategic planning, prudent investment, and diversification efforts can help mitigate the economic risks associated with dependence on oil revenues. By investing in other sectors and fostering innovation, these nations have been able to thrive beyond their oil wealth. |

You have a point there, production in every aspects of our life is the key to our failing economy. The reason why we buy many products from China is because we don't produce anything that we use, not because of China currencies . China currencies to naira is high, so production is the key as u said early Kukutenla: That's one way to look at it. It depends on how the handlers of the economy react to this news. You can easily afford Chinese goods due to their low currency. What we need to do is ramp up production of those goods in high demands thus gaining more forex from the sale. This will in turn help our currency and our farmers as well. As for the local economy, an increase in production will also help crash the price of those goods. So it's about how govt responds to this heads up. If they sit idly by instead of stepping up availability of farm inputs, then your fears might become reality |

I don't know why some people are so draft, see this is bad. The prices of this products are too high for the citizens of Nigeria to buy, which made other countries with high currencies to change their currencies to naira that had no value. They made much gain from the business while we loss, so it is a big win for them and a big loss for us. Kukutenla: Toh It's good news and should be encouraged Our farmers should also be encouraged and supported to produce more Larger market is never a bad thing |
