Good morning great minds,

I am desperately in need of help concerning my farm.
I stocked 6300 fish in my concrete pond about two weeks ago, I put them all in a pond, hoping to sort them after four weeks into another pond. At about a week, i noticed the catfish started dying as i noticed they were hanging. The mortality is over 200 already. Please, i need an advise on what to do. I treated them with tetracyline, it only help for few days. Yesterday when i changed the water, I counted over fifty (50) mortality. Please, help save my stock.
So far, it is more than 300 mortality in two weeks.
when i contacted the seller, i was told it is as result of stress and change of environment, as the were using borehole water before. I pump water from a running stream to the pond.
This morning I notice some of them still hanging. Please what can I do?

sorry about dt. 1) check ur water parameters if the ph is not ohk it can affect them. Pumping water fro. D stream hmmm is d stream secured? Wats d size of the tank they r in? Hope u r not over feeding as well

I need answers to some pressing questions.

I have been doing market research on catfish farming in my locality. I met one of the fish sellers and asked how and where he gets supplies. To my surprise he told me he travels to another faraway town to buy fishes whereas we have fish farmers in my town. His reason was that, fishes bred in earthen pond taste better than ones bred in plastic or tarpaulin ponds. I want to know if there is any truth to that? And if so, how can one scale through farming in the city where it will be tough to get earthen ponds?

...well it depend on the size of juvenile u stock and also d quality of the parent stock use in the breeding... water management also count alot.

Thanks Chilanfarms. Okay, I will go for the option of 10,000 Juveniles. 3.5 tonnes = 212 bags of feed bah.
So with FCR of 1:1 in mind, I have to go for about 433 bags of feed to get 650g in 3 months for 10,000 juveniles?

The cost of feed is stilla concern, is N6000 per bag ok?

#6k per bag is ohk but u have no option of reducing d price has its been supplied by d anchor organization... least u should sell is #650 per kg.... we have peak and off peak period if an off taker is gonna take ur product u deal based on current market price and not any fixed price... how do u make ur profit?

put water in the tank for 7days with dried plantain leaves or any organic fertilizer such as supergro.discharge d water after 7days. Rinse off with clean water u can stock the following day but make sure u check ur water parameters too.

You need an aerator also my broda, don't play down the relief it would give you.

u don't need aerator that early rather ensure flow through @ low pressure.
