My Oga, am learning from you guy oo, these are things you people taught me. Am only concerned about why people no longer attend as a matter of urgency to people's question on this forum the way it used to be in the past.

I must admit your resilience in continue to forge ahead after some loses and i must tell you that winners dont quit, but you need to know where and what make you to fail so as not to repeat the same mistakes.

There could be many things wrong with your production sessions since you did not give detail of your farm system and management i would suggest you reconsider the following areas of management in fish farming

Pond Construction: What is the capacity of your concrete pond. How do you construct the water inlet and outlet?. This singular system could determine the level of stress your fish experience each time you change water. For example i have discovered that the lesser time it takes to change water determine the level of stress your fish encountered. For me, my pond model enable me to change water in 12X8X4 capacity within 30minutes thereby taking less of my time and as well reducing the stress of my fish.

Water: What is the source of your water? The quality of water in your pond will determine the health of your fish. You can read a lot on pond water management

Seed: What is the source of your seed, fingerling, juvenile?. It is important to get your fingerling from reputable hatchery so as to ensure good start from the onset. The first two month in production cycle will determine whether your fish will grow well or not. During these period, your water management and feeding must be in top gear. You will experience changes in their growth and eating habit. Also, you may need to treat your fish for common sickness at that tender age but must not over treat them as this may affect their growth. Just ensure your water management is perfect.

Feed: How quality and quantity of feed your fish consume?. The quality of your feed cannot be over emphasised. What they eat will to a large extent determine their growth. It is ideal to feed your fish at the first 2-3month with quality foreign feed like coppens, multifeed, Zeigler etc. But you can as well supplement especially at the first month with grounded tilapia or clupeid, this is to ensure maximum intake of required amino acid to kick start their growth and once they are on that part you are already on your way to success. Be reminded that this required additional cost which some farmers sees as not necessary but it worth spending. Another secret which work for me is starting with 0.8mm coppens for fingerling or juvenile. For fingerling i ensure they eat enough 0.8 before changing to 1.5mm. These two starter feed contain high percentage of protein which aid their growth and by the time they started eating 2mm they would have outgrown the initial stage of sickeness associate with fingerling and juvenile.

The next stage of feeding is where to play your fish farm economy, you make a choice whether to continue buying imported, local extruded or locally pelletise feed. In order to increase profit many settle for locally rich pelletise feed with high protein and reduce the protein content as your fish grow. You can save up to 100,000 to 150,000 in feed cost for 1000kg of feed used if you know what you are doing at the same time gain additional weight compare to when you use imported feed.

Sorting: This is very important especially when you are using concrete pond. The best sorting is when you sort to four categories for optimum growth but you can still sort to two pond if you have limited ponds.

On a general note, pay attention and give your fish quality treatment and you will reap quality harvest. Endervour to visit successful farm in your area and ask question on how they go about their business. Also read research about related topic to boost your knowledge about the business and the sky will be your starting point.

I believe experts in the house will give more info about what you need to do to enhance your performance

There are so many research on the import of garlic as it act as attractant, help in growth and serves as antibiotic the inclusion for best performance should be in the range of 3g for 100kg

You can replace the imported fish meal 100% with clupeid fish (I think it's Yoruba call it yoyo)

I read a scientific research comparing 72% imported fish meal from Holland to local clupeid, conclusion, no difference.

So don't waste your money please. Will find a link to the research and post.

I used to believe solely in imported 72%,but the high cost and research changed my mind

My fingerlings are about to the introduced to the pond (earthen pond). Please I have some questions;
1) How often should I change the water?
2) How often should I treat them (e.g Multivitamins and tetracycline)?
3) What will the feeding look like for 2000. fingerlings? Like how much would one spend onan average to feed them adequately to maturity?
4) Do I still need to sort? Since its a big earten pond.

I just asked a friend the price of imported fish meal 72% protein and he said 50kg goes for 41,000 meaning 820naira per kg. What is your take in the use of foreign fishmeal in feed composition. Ab1x, excellesoir, Soft777, Nuvembarz, Robonski, Ayosat and my respected gurus please come and do justice to this pressing question

Before it can work, you need to get borehole expert to determine the formation of the land. You don't need submersible pump machine before it works. After drilling, the water will come out naturally from the borehole, you only need pipe to channel the water into the pond. # that's d best for farmers.
