dru23: Second hand value? Better to dash person with I beg to take this motor.. U don't know naija people when it comes to cars... Very poor. And it's justified cos of the original cost of purchase. But, gets the job done. The duratec engines can last a lifetime. Sold mine @ 380,000 km. |

radautoworks: how often do both need changing though? I genuinely don't know with the mondeo? Like you said frequency matters. Let's use dru's favorite example oil. You can use the 5k oil for a lot of these cars and change every 3 months or 2-3,000 miles or you can spend 17-27k on synthetic extended mileage for 6 months or 10,000 miles. Liquid cash may make option one more appealing until you consider certain things. It's not just about the cost of the parts.
For the sake of simplicity let's use miles and assume you do your own oil changes so no labor.
In 10,000 miles on option one syn blend: 5k oil *5 1-1.5k oil filter *5 Min 2k LOST TRIPS DURING OIL CHANGES *5 25k + 5-7.5k + 10k = 40-47k on maintenance
On option two extended mileage synthetic mobil, Pennzoil, castrol, etc 17-27k oil *1 2-3.5k filter *1 Min 2k lost during oil change *1 17-27k + 2-3.5k + 2k = 21-32.5k on maintenance
Same applies to any repair you're doing. frequency of repair is a killer for you guys. there is a formula to calculate the actual cost of each repair. For Rad Auto, for every $1 we lose in warranty work or mistake correction, we have to make $5 to avoid losing money. One would have to do the math for e-hailing. Scratching my head. So many numbers |

dru23: But you will not envy them when it is time to replace the hybrid battery but the Prius rarely have issues That's the machine breakdown and maintenance we are talking about. Frequency of breakdown is the bone of contention here. Last I checked, a toks pair of corolla wheel hubs, cost over 28k naira. But a ford Mondeo's hub is a paltry 8k |

Rental car company like Aveis ,budget uses Japanese cars.. Majority of them have Japanese cars in their fleet...... The best car for ehailing. I envy the owners. |

dru23: We talking about cars for uber sir, to have a machine that will ran non-stop all day ,my brother no be beans.....
Let me ask you question sir , in the USA why type of cars do you think people use to do uber ? Nigerians are not the only people doing uber job in the USA , There's no car specifically produced for transportation. Am certain people use Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen and ford brands over there. |

Machine made in Japan will tend to last longer than most machine made in the USA or any other competing countries Those machines are good for the job and their initial purchase prices are relatively cheap. Don't forget the argument is getting a car below 900k suitable for ehailing |

dru23: Anyone that buys the following I crossed out ... You are on ur own.....those are the ones I know that importers don't bring in ...car selling business is a very challenging business to be in ..
People will not bring in cars that people will not buy... And parts can be expensive.... God help if you decide to buy naija used.. You are definitely on your own be dat ..... If everyone goes by this your analogy, who do you expect to buy your naija-used Uber cars? Or will you crush them Importers ship in cars that they will sell ASAP. Doesn't mean other cars are bad. But cos of the Nigerian terrain and demand. In Neighboring Ghana, they use lpg+ petrol cars. Not the almighty corollas or Toyota's. Does it mean those cars are not good? It's just what people have accepted and importers, being business men, roll with the flow. If you talked about landrover freelander, I will agree. Cos that car was produced by the devil. |

dru23: Anyone that buys the following I crossed out ... You are on ur own..... lol. People have used them and succeeded. A car will forever remain a machine. Guess what, every machine will breakdown and need overhauling. Even humans breakdown, talk more of their creations. Now, about frequency of breakdown, It depends on the handler of the machine. You don't expect the driver going to ikorodu, satellite town, iyana-iba, agbarange, sango-ota, e.t.c not to have frequent breakdowns. Or the driver that spends over 12hours daily operating the machine and expect it not to breakdown. Or the driver that converts his car to a boat during rainy days . |

Volkswagen Jetta 1.8L Nissan Sentra 2.0L Hyundai Accent 1.6LKia Rio 1.6LHonda city 1.3LMitsubishi Lancer 1.6LFord Focus 1.6LFord Mondeo 2.0LGelly 1.3L Tata 1.2L Hyundai xcent 1.3L Hyundai Elantra 1.6/2.0LAnd a whole lot. OmodavidoX: Good evening house,
Please I need on procedure of joining Uber and bolt
Currently have 900k. Hoping to save to 2M and get a good car to kickstart this Uber business Personally I won't invest more than 400k. 500k max. But since you have 900k, you should be able to land a good car. Ensure the motor size is less than 2.0L. Whatever you could do to save up 2M, continue with it. |

radautoworks: If I can manage a large company's bank statement I can figure it out
On a serious note it doesn't take a genius to see multiple small amounts and figure out they are trip payments. The amounts cash or not will match your dashboard earnings.
If dashboard says 100k one week, there should be corresponding payments totalling about that much is it not? Factor in a percentage of error for actual cash in hand that was never deposited and it should be close. And yes, we are factoring in that it takes a few days to get your money after the week.
I told you my teacher cap is on. Whether 800k is possible or not is beside the point. This is about learning money management. Have you ever wondered why it seems like no matter how much some people earn they are always broke? Some drivers here are living beyond their means without realizing it. Others are not maximizing their income and could have probably achieved so much more. Yet others are making what sem to be massive incomes but only actually making less than 25% of what they work for. Which one are you?
On the flip side some investors think this is a gold mine and want to jump in. It may well be under the right conditions but what are those conditions? Other investors have misconceptions about driver's earnings vs take home. This exercise will shed some light.
New year, new mindset. Well said. |
