True. but mind you FBN is perfect. u wont compare FBN HOLDINGs with Transcorp. Dividend from FBNh comes from all the subsidiaries in which First Bank is just a fraction. FBN capitals, First Registrars et al.

@bolded, pls do your due diligence. I have serious doubts. It should be the other way round, that is, the FBN capital, registrars, etc are fractions while First Bank is the major entity.

And that thing that is brewing can be one of two things depending on the perspective you're looking from. Seller's angle(what did he see that made him sell), Buyer's angle(what did he see that made him buy), etc

So, let's all note that breweries abound but after all the brewing, some will output goodnews while others will output bad news

Business / Re: Few Nigerian Banks May Collapse In 2016 – Report by chillykelly86(m): 1:39am On May 05, 2015
kaorama:
Under every new CBN Governor, a few Nigerian banks must close shop. This seems to be the custom in Nigeria's economy for some time now. Soludo swallowed many of them in the pretext of bank consolidation. Sanusi sanitized the banks yet further. I remember Ocean bank. Oh, it is difficult to forget Intercontinental Bank; the bank that did not charge me any monthly management fee on my IPSA account until it was submerged and things fell apart. We do not know what the new CBN Governor will do with the remaining banks. Maybe he will sell them off or maybe Nigerians will start paying subsidy for their survival. Whether what our financial managers do is prompted by economic exigencies or informed by clandestine agenda is what many Nigerians do not know.

The truth is, with the creation of AMCON, Nigerians paid a kind of subsidy for the banking sector.

The largest Sovereign Wealth Fund in the world-called Government Pension Fund Global (GPFG) is owned by Norway; (administered by Norges Bank) and is worth about $890 billion (£556 billion) . 65% of that amount is invested in equities across the world outside Norway.

Recent reports have confirmed that GPFG has invested $3.8 billion invested in the African stock markets and it is useful to know what their Nigerian portfolio looks like to enable us know where their money is flowing to.
Can you find any of them in your portfolio ?

Now you say that if the light situation improves after 6months that it is due to the current actions of the current government. I say that is hog-wash! angry
#Nigerianswakeup

You have a right to complain bro.
But I remember all our complaints when Ebola was at its peak, of the US not releasing trial drugs. Then, they explained how the drug is produced and how it is that they have just few doses.
And yes, I don't think any sizeable power project will take less than 6 months to complete. I stand to be corrected.

My point is: Nigeria's power problems will not be solved overnight.

By the way, if you're looking for improvement in power supply before you know something is happening in the power sector, you may need to understand that Nigeria's power demands are constantly growing at a fast pace, as a growing economy and with a growing population.

If you have specific cases of corruption in the power sector reforms, please bring them up. Unsubstantiated statements aren't the way to go.

No quarrels bro. We're all here to learn. And I am ready to learn and take corrections but that is when I am "schooled". I need schooling, not erroneous, sentiment-whipping write-ups.

I will email you now. I need an article for this week on the fuel scarcity.

Edit: Your email does not work!

Few facts on the fuel scarcity:-

1. Fall in crude oil price has endangered Nigeria's budget(of which 70% goes to recurrent expenditure, mainly salaries of an overbloated, ineffective govt workforce which any reasonable attempt to prune will draw the ire of organized labour). Sometimes labour comes across to me as some uneducated bunch of selfish individuals who claim to represent the workforce(who really have no credible alternative).
2. The meager approved budget for fuel subsidy cannot now cater for the "allegedly" corruption-ridden fuel subsidy regime(which by the way mainly benefit the well to do and rich).

3. Nigerians can now either see reason and let the subsidy be discontinued or follow the bidding of few cunning politicians, start protesting and crumble what is left of the shaky govt.

Note:- the opposition is not likely to oppose a removal of subsidy now because unlike in January 2012, they know they will inherit this cankerworm in less than a month.

Bros, I am not holding forth for anybody or any govt.
However, Nigerians need to understand that engineering projects don't take days to deliver.
There is
1. installed capacity,
2. current output (which is what is being generated),
3. actual consumption.
You build power plants to increase the first.
You need enough gas(for gas-fired plants), enough water(for hydroelectric plants), etc and highly efficient plants to convert as much installed capacity as possible to generated power.
Finally, you need efficient transmission and distribution infrastructure to deliver as much generated power as possible to the consumers.

At every stage, you need heavy investments and one of the best things this govt has done, I think, is the privatisation of the power sector because govt alone cannot foot the bill.

And make no mistake about it, if you see improvements in power within at least 6 months of GMB's tenure, its likely due to actions of the current govt.
