I am thinking there is more to ZEE , the merger of UNION bank may soon be communicated

ZEE would be bigger than GT if this ultimately occure. My advice buy more of ZEE for keep. grin

Bigger depends on your yardstick.

By Assets, profits, Zenith is bigger.

By market valuation, GTB is bigger.

I decided to write this epistle this morning:

I started investing in stocks while in university, around the time of the banking sector consolidation (2004-06). There was a very helpful forum then, stockmarketnigeria.com (SMN for short) and I used to frequent it. Due to the lessons and regular updates from that forum, my major stockbroking manager then actually confessed that my account had better returns than his. That's not the crux of this post. I was only trying to point out that his perception of me as a better portfolio manager didn't have much to do with my expertise as it had to do with my association with the distinguished members of that forum.

There was one occasion I asked for clarification on an issue from one of the Ogas in the forum and his response was a surprising rebuff. I didn't remember offending anyone at all on that forum and not this Oga in particular. However, following conversations shed light on his disposition: apparently someone or some persons who followed his opinion to trade and lost came back at him. So he probably decided to refrain from airing his views or even offering any tips since no one was paying him in the first place. I think that or similar occurrences are what led to the common disclaimers that follow expository posts here. That Oga's contributions were valuable to the forum as well as those of other Ogas. If any of them chose to recoil into their shell, it may not be obvious immediately but on the long run, you would have poorer arguments and a generally narrower perspective. And who loses more? The Oga or the newbies?

I told this story to buttress my assertion and, if we read and interpret well, the assertion of many of our Ogas in this forum, that the broader the perspectives, the better for all of us.

The growing norm, here, of calling out people who are proved by the market to have been on the wrong side of arguments after every bull or bear run is, to say the least, shortsighted, ill-informed and dangerous for this forum. In fact, like in my case then, its the newbies that will still suffer it because the older folks generally know how to synthesize market-relevant information from posts and marry with the information they already have to arrive at their positions. While nobody can claim to predict market direction correctly 100% of the time, the more relevant information you factor into your decisions, the better your chances of being right. (Just to add too: the longer your timeframe, the more likely you are to make correct decisions too: this is why its agreed that long term investments are generally less risky than short-term investments).

So, we must resist the urge to criticize and talk down anyone either because their opinion does not allign with ours or we think they are not in touch with reality, especially if its with the benefit of hindsight. The ideal thing to do is to put in your submission(s) and point out why you think their submission is irrelevant or not too relevant. In the end, we are all here to learn from one another and the larger the pool of knowledge, the better for us all.

God bless you all

Do you have up to 5m?
Can you be satisfied with 7 to 10%?
Are you ready to monitor a stock from 10 am to 2.30pm?
Are you ready to study one or two stocks and trade only on them only on pullbacks and breakouts?

If your answer is yes,you are good to go.

ok clearer. I doubt that though, cos while things are still bad and seemingly getting worse, however unlike during the first panic, the outlook (mid term) seems clearer when compared to the first panic. Thanks

There is this angle to Nigeria's COVID-19: Nigerians, whether due to poverty or any other thing(s) don't usually go to hospitals except they are in critical condition. From statistics, over 80% of COVID-19 cases are mild. So, its assumed a high number of infected Nigerians will not show up in hospitals while they keep transmitting. This may not go according to established/emerging curves in other countries.

Abeg no one should come for my head oo.

On a serious note now bro, it seems you're creating unnecessary panic where there's none.

No one have died of COVID-19 yet in Nigeria.
Something is fishy.

Please Don't make it worse than it is.

Moreover every decline on fundamentally sound stocks is an opportunity for longtime investors to increase their stakes and make more money.

Like Oracle and others have rightly said, the lower it falls, the better.
Fingers crossed.

You guys should calm down; to make the best investment decisions(whether buy, sell, hold, wait, etc), you need to factor in as many views and perspectives as possible. I know the effect of such seeming negativity if one is already in the market. Yes, there are a good number of monkey hunters. But then the diverse views and perspectives actually add beauty and depth to this forum, so please resist the temptation to stifle any contrary voice; it won't help on the long run.

NB: I'm also in the market. Now about 27% invested, 73% cash.

Dividends have been approved by the management of the companies and that was why it was markdown from the share price. I believe they will pay. If you shift AGM date, will you reverse markdown?

I think there was an insurance company that shifted AGM in the past (Nem I guess) but dividend was paid on the same stated date.

AGM will be to discuss and vote other issues.

This is very reassuring. Thanks Sir

The Board and Management of United Capital wishes to announce the postponement of its Annual General Meeting slated to hold on March 24th, 2020 at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

We apologise for any inconvenience this postponement might cause. A new date for the meeting will be communicated in due course.

The words of the minister doesn't in anyway express dissatisfaction with the status quo; he is simply not foreclosing future cooperation and collaboration with OPEC. The low prices are exactly what Russia wants and their aim is to force US Shale producers out of the market/business.

The earlier we get acclimatized to this, the better. Its a long road ahead.

I will try again tomorrow.

The lowest it could go today, as per 10% rule, was 1.51. Probably you didn't get the calculation right.

Tomorrow's lowest should be 1.36
Zenith - 11.75
GTB - 18
UBA - 5.1
Fidelity - 1.46

Other continents couldn't cure this virus but Nigeria did? God of my forefathers please save us from this useless government please.

Ok. Let's get some things clear: COVID-19 does not have a cure or vaccine yet. However, the body's immune system can fight it and several infected persons have actually recovered from the viral infection. Over 30,000 out of the about 95,000 infected people have recovered and have been discharged. The recovery rate is actually high too.

So, COVID-19 infection is not a death sentence; far from it.

The major challenge with the virus is its contagion or rate of infection; it is estimated(statistically, of course) that every infected person infects an average of 2-3 other people. So the virus is highly contagious. Extrapolating this paints a gloomy picture where there is mass infection and not enough medical facilities/personnel to handle then. This is the reason why governments around the world are battling to contain it, not necessarily because its deadlier than other diseases out there.
