Streetinvestor2: If cbn is not being fraudulent. After collecting the gains this banks made from revaluation they are talking all this rubbish. Why didn't they tell the banks to use the gains from forex to take care of this loan and others since they didn't allow shareholders benefit from it. The man at cbn is just another mismatch for the job.He deserve to be sacked. I agree... Why not use forex one off gain and clear half of not all of the exposure.. To even recall the forex forfeiture ti FG was moved from 30% to 70% by NASS is unfortunate.. I still blame the banks a bit, they could have voiced out in unison using this forbearance skeleton in their cupboard as a legitimate excuse to cut down the 70% windfall request before surrendering. |

GeneralDae: But if we give Dangote our crude, it would still reduce our exports of crude especially when we give him in naira. Don’t forget that Dangote mostly imports WTI from the U.S which is a cheaper crude, so when you add logistics, the prices are almost the same or still even slightly cheaper than when he buys the expensive Bonny Light from NNPC or Chevron.
However, I think the major reason NNPC can’t supply Dangote as much as we would expect for now is the issue of the forward sales contracts which are estimated to be around 300k bpd currently. NNPC and the Federation together doesn’t have more than 750k bpd from the 1.45 million bpd we currently produce. This means they may only have around 450k bpd left to give Dangote and also export. Servicing Dangote alone requires 650k bpd.
Dangote can buy from IOC’s in Nigeria and the new indigenous players but I think the deal to buy some parts of the crude in naira is only possible with NNPC for now. I get sha. Just musing at the Irony . |

Mpeace: The thing now is that those advantages bestowed by size, is lost. The big and small will now play on equal advantage.
If total sell 850, enjoy sell 850 and others sell at same price the name of the station becomes only cosmetic.
It's good for consumers. We can expect further lowering of prices of petroleum products(except that war in Iran will also lead to rise in prices of products) Their MAJOR downside are not their downstream sector competitors, but other sectors of the economy.. Manufacturing/Telcos and other heavyduty PMS/Diesel dependants companies like MTN, betaglass, etc need not go to Total or Conoil to buy as 3rd party. They can now go directly to purchase from source-- DR. The Major Marketers can still play the second card..not every station can afford offtake of 500,000litres at a stretch with bank credit guarantee.. They should have the advantage of having PMS all year round unlike others.. |

Mankind2024: Early in the month of June 2025, I made a post on the allure of dividends. My opinion on the new directive that restricts the major banks from paying dividends by the CBN is tantamount to a dividend war, the sibling of a trade war. As a self-investor, I would not touch my holdings in the banks; rather, I would deploy opportunity funds and top up. I would advise fellow self-investors not to panic sell, as they may not successfully time the market. Time in the market beats timing the market. The banks have emerged stronger despite forfeiting their forex gains to the government of Nigeria. I believe the CBN has taken this no-dividend policy to fight inflation. I am of the opinion CBN wants to also prevent round tripping.. Using PAT/ retained earnings as dividends.. Bank owners and their people with billion value of received dividend will now use it for this 2nd tranche of Capitalization. |

Mpeace: you are right. He was specific on overhauling the downstream sector. Wahala for Conoil, Totalenergies and others in the sector. They can buy from him now.. He's offering free logistics. He's also offering credit guarantee of 2weeks for about 500,000litres purchase. These companies can afford it.. they are MAJOR MARKETERS. They should patronise him and reduce their Cost of sales |
