Nairaland GeneralDon't Make New Year Resolutions! Here's How To Have A Stupendously Great Year. by Chineydum(op): 9:48pm On Jan 01, 2018
So you want a great year, huh? These tips will revolutionise your life. Plus what success gurus fail to tell you.

Let’s cut to the chase. 2018 is in full gear already. Everyone is starting something new, habits, businesses, goals, relationships, plans etc. We all want to accomplish something. We are in a rush.

The social media is trending with novel ideas and infant start-ups. The energy is intense and electrifying, you can feel it in the atmosphere. It’s the start of something new.

The year is here and it just got started.
This post is not about the statistics of people that start the year with resolutions and fail to follow through even past the first month- sad.

This is a practical no nonsense guide to how you can make this year your year of accomplishment and a memorable one for a long time.

You can attest to the verity of the fact if you’ve ever set resolutions. They don’t last long and the period you try to stick with it is always a struggle. Before long you summon the courage to call it quits and you happily do because you couldn’t see yourself going through the motions.

So you want to have a great year? Do these things.

1.Commit To Excellence

Most people want the good stuff but they don’t want to put in the work required. But that is not how it works in life.
It might just be true in Hollywood movies but when it comes to the game of life, you’ve got to play well if you want to win the trophy.

A true and life long commitment to excellence transcends every area of your life from your relationships with others, your attitude towards life and a consistent to growth and the little things that matter.

You’ll become just what you want to be and more plus you also get to have a great year. It’s a win-win situation for you.

2.Get Serious
Ask 10 folks who set New Year resolutions what they really want and 9 of them would have a great deal of difficulty telling you what they really want.

They lack burning passion and they quit at life’s booby traps on the road to becoming successful.

This is the year for you to get serious about your goals, passions and strengths. Quit the dilly dallying. You either quit or commit.
You have to burn your boats if you want victory. You’ve come to far making resolutions and joking with them. It’s time to get serious. How about you start now?

3.Renew Everyday
You won’t find this advice everywhere. It may seem far fetched or weird but it’s absolutely true whether you believe it or not.
It’s the missing information motivational speakers and success coaches do not tell you.

Everyday you wake you have to draw strength, inspiration and spend time in communication with a Higher power.
For me it is my quiet time with God. It is when I get confidence that I can face anything that comes my way in the day because I know I have the backing of an All Powerful God.

This is the most important secret to have a stupendously great year in my opinion. Never miss your time with God everyday.

4. Delete
A fish can never survive outside water no matter how many personal development books it has read or who it’s success coach is. I like the graphic illustration.

You want a great year, I know. You have to quit hanging out with the wrong people and be unapologetic about it. This is your life.
Anyone that is not adding value to your life has got to go. I know it will be hard but, damn it. You have to do it.

PS
Hi there, thanks for reading. I believe this year has the best in store for you and I. But the onus is on us to work to get all that we can have and be. From me to you this is wishing you a Happy New Year.

Top-Three Bad Habits Among Youths And How To Overcome Them

Good day friends.

This thread is a 'commendable' and proven panacea (remedy) to the common bad habits most young people are struggling with, day to day, unknown to parents, friends or guardians.

I'm gonna be sharp and precise.

1. Masturbation (Self-Service)-
Does the name scare you? Lol. Even if it's still controlling you, look it in the face and call it by its name and say, 'I'll overcome you someday'. I pray that day comes soon.

2. Online Betting (Nairabet, Bet9ja etc)

3. Taking toxic substances (Smoking, drinking, partying etc.)

Important Question:

How did it all begin? This will help you understand the nature of that "unholy attachment" and how to "RESET the factory settings", so to speak.

- Through family/ friends?
- Through idleness?
- Via the media/internet?

OBVIOUSLY YOU FEEL IT DOESN'T KEEP ITS PROMISES OF 'pleasure extraordinaire' otherwise you won't be reading this and looking for a way to break up with it.

Masturbation

People who are today addicted went in with a good intention; "I want to abstain from sex so lemmie stick here with, self pleasure." Same for others.
They later found that out to be deceptive and addictive.
They want out.

SOLUTION FOR POINT 1

Masturbation is like a BABY (Call it Boss Baby) that feeds on three meals:

- Lusting after Curvy, busty girls OR well-built guys.

- Porn

- Idleness

You can kill the baby if you CUT THE SUPPLY of food and attention given to it.

No prayer can do that for you. Just cut it.

Most youths; Believers or Unbelievers have this as their 'soft spot'.

Speaking of 'soft spot', Man is made from the earth, clay. When water touches a part of clay, that part becomes slippery, soft. That's called SOFT SPOT. But if you shut the tap. The clay becomes hard, until whenever you put on the tap again. So put off the tap! Stop telling people your weakness. Work dirty on it until it's no more!

REAL ENGLISH: If you are a Christian, surround yourself with Godly materials. For me, I bought an MP3 tape messages of my spiritual leader and played it constantly. A day, 3 to 5 hours go to messages; while cooking, walking, working etc. Minus sleeping time. I didn't know when those teachings started driving me to BLOCK those WhatsApp girlfriends who adds no value to me other than lusty chats. obscene sites became disgusting. Looking at girls' behind reduced drastically; What's the point?

That's what I call SHUTTING THE TAP or STARVING THE BABY.
It works all the time!

I even discovered that when I spent so much time playing video games on my laptop, the urge for self-servicing comes: What's the Link, I thought? (You've got to be smarter.)

IDLENESS of hands invites Satan, I found out.

I deleted all my laptop games (PS 4). Cut my pads and dumped them.
That even kept 'useless' friends away.
I now use my time wisely to pursue my goals.
Talk about ruthless self-discipline.

Of course, I had enough time for Prayer and Hard, Profitable work too.

Solution For Point 2

Betting (Bet9ja, Nairabet etc.)

If I was told I was ever going be involved in this, I would have hissed.
However, some friends came for a holiday in my place. Few month later after they were gone, I dabbled into it BUT Online.
It lingered for like 4 months until I SHUT THE TAP and CUT THE SUPPLY by HIS grace.
I've tried that several times as most of these Online Betting sites makes it tough or impossible to delete your account.
One day, I got really infuriated and wanted out and lo, an IDEA struck my mind.
Get a new password. Just type in random alphabets without knowing what you typed. That worked.
Even if my flesh wants to make free extra cash, which never really come by easily, I won't know the password.
That's how I became free till date.

JUST CUT THE SUPPLY. SHUT THE TAP. STARVE THE BABY TO DEATH.

3. SOLUTION FOR POINT 3

Never tasted any but I know the way out is same.
CUT THE TAP!
You don't have to amputate your hands.

A part of you is getting or has gotten acclimatized to that habit. If you starve that part of you of enjoying that habit (No Compromise), Soon enough, that part of you will get used to living without that habit, harmful substances in this case.

In Conclusion:
I understand Different Strokes For Different Folks but I strongly believe this is one sure deal.

A sex addict don't have to detach his egg plant even as that is not the main trouble.
Stop feeding on things that causes erection. Stay far from them. Don't hang around them. Don't toy with them. That's defensive. To be offensive, begin to feed on spiritual things. Addictions are not chemical reaction problems. I believe they are spiritual otherwise you could have easily put them away. So try out what you've read.

YOU ALSO CAN BE FREE!

Have a blessed day.
Thanks op. This is candid, practical and straight to the point tips to kill these habits. These are the things that bedevils our youth today.

Nairaland GeneralHow Far Can You Go For Love by Chineydum(op): 7:17am On Sep 24, 2017
How Far Can You Go For Love?

Love indeed is beautiful and blissful but it goes way beyond the feeling it engenders in our hearts. Everyone out there who has been in love one time or the other must have done some extremely sacrificial act for his lover.

I know I have a witness among the guys reading this now and even some ladies have gone out of their way to show the extent of their love with their partners.

The truth is this, we all have gone all out in love to do something extra special for our lover and most times it cost us something.

A friend of mine was more than willing to make his girlfriend very comfortable in the restaurant they went to and was okay with only a bottle of water. Perhaps that was his way of going over for his friend.

Love is a powerful force that controls the world we live in. It is love that makes the world go round and conducive for us humans.

Under the influence of Love we can do things we would rather not do because we are motivated and controlled by the power of love.

So here's the thing I want to bring to your notice. Christ demonstrated his love for us and died for us, in a bid to give us eternal life, a blissful life on earth and a clean slate from all our wrongs and mistakes - free Mercy.

My question is this, Do you love Him in turn, it is only wise that you do so.

Do you love Him enough to say no to frivolous activities that don't bring glory and honor to His name? Do your actions cause a smile on His face and make Him glad that He died for you?

How far will you go for Him, to do His will, can you sacrifice your desires, pleasures and comfort for Him?

As I write this I just discover that this message is speaking loudly to me. I ask myself how strong is the power of my love for the One who first loved me.

Happy Sunday.
Have a great week ahead.

10 Of The Weirdest Things You Didn’t Know Will Happen To You When You Read The Bible

The bible is the Holy Book of Christians. It serves as a guide for living and contains the mind of God concerning issues that humans face every day from love, sex, money, power, fame, social issues, life, happiness, death, marriage and many more. It is a love letter from a loving father to his children.

The bible is filled with many stories ranging from the creation story to the birth of the messiah, Jesus Christ. A story that is hard to believe in today’s world, despite its credence proven by science.

Everyone is allowed to read the bible both Christians- people living life according to the precepts of Christ, the central theme of the bible- and non Christians alike because regardless of the age of the bible, science has proven that it retains timeless truths and wisdom that everyone needs to know to live a successful and purposeful life in today’s world.

The bible is an amazing book everyone should read in their lifetime.

Here are 10 of the weirdest things you never knew about reading the bible.

1.It Inspires The Reader

The bible is a book containing detailed records and account of the lives of people that have come before us.

These people are just like us, share the same passion, emotion, desires and wants. We see their whole life spanned out in written words.
We can share their pain, learn from their mistakes and apply it in our daily lives for optimal living.

You read the account of someone passing through exactly what you are facing now and you can learn how to respond to the situation and be better equipped to live a purposeful and fulfilled life.

2.It Provides Timeless Wisdom

Every story or account in the bible is laced with wit and deep insight for the consumption of the reader.

A book called Proverbs is dedicated to the wise sayings of the wisest king that ever lived in his time. Today Proverbs as a standout book can be titled 31 Immutable Laws On Wisdom written by the foremost speaker on the issue.

You will become wiser when you read from the book of Proverbs daily, because in no time you’ll act based on what you are reading. The infallibility of the words will amaze you and you’ll make it a habit to consult it regularly.

3.It Will Read You

Many people have set out read the bible only to be startled because it read them in turn. They saw their lives clearly spelt out in scripture and mirrored back they saw their reflection in the stories of the men and women in the bible.

When you eventually open the pages of the bible to read it for yourself, you will discover that there is someone like you, something for you and an instruction to guide you.

4.It Speaks To Your Heart

There’s something about the bible that makes it different from every other book I’ve read, fiction, non-fiction, memoir etc. The others excite, inspire, entertain etc and that is about all that they do. The bible is unique in this aspect; it speaks to your soul, to your inner man.

There is a conversation between your conscience - the determiner of right or wrong- when you read the bible and this is the reason many do not read the bible. This conviction is not always pleasant and comfortable; most times it is calls for a sober reflection and a change of attitude.

5.It Provides Answers To Your Questions

Man is on a quest to find answers to the many questions that plague his mind on the daily. What are we here for? Where do we go from here? What is the purpose of this life? It there a meaning to all there is here?

The bible not only provides answers to these questions, it shows us the one who has all the answers. I have found my answers from the bible, I believe you will find yours too if you approach if with an open mind. The bible itself says ‘‘seek and you will find.”

6.It Speaks Directly To You

Not only will you discover that the bible speaks to your heart and conscience when you start reading it. You will find out that it speaks directly to you.

For instance a specific passage will pop off and it will speak contextually to you, whether it is an instruction, a warning, an advice or a comforting word.

They will speak directly to you. When you make reading the bible a habit, these weird occurrences will become frequent and then you’ll see the bible as a voice that speaks to you like a friend.

7.It Will Make You Cry

You will read stories of love, betrayal, hatred, war and peace. The recurring theme in most of the stories is the love of a God for his creation, His many acts to give this creation (you and I) a better life and build a connection for fellowship with him.

Not all the stories have a happy ending, the rebellion of this creature (you and I) against its creator will leave you stunned and the creators never ending love will shock you. If the stories don’t make you cry, then I don’t know what will.

8.It Will Make You A Better Writer

The sure way to become a writer is to read. The bible contains a lot of stories and books on poetry. As you read you will readily improve your vocabulary, your writing skills will improve.

You will be exposed to the writing techniques and stories of various writers. When you write you’ll be able to put into practice one thing or thing or two from what you’ve read thereby making you a better writer.

9.It Will Give You Hope

The bible is a book of Hope.
It provides hope for humans of a future promised by the main character Jesus Christ, the hope that all life does not end here and a hope that life is more than chasing after sex, money, power and things. It provides hope of a better tomorrow.
A hope and reality of an ideal place called Heaven.

10. It Will Boggle You
When you read stories in the bible many of them will question reality and defy the norm. Matter of fact they will boggle you. The story of a man mining faster than a chariot, the dead coming back to life, water turned to wine, a man walking on water and many more stories.

The bible is interesting and filled with uniquely strange stories that will keep you wanting for more

Happy Sunday Nairalanders.

Nairaland GeneralCharisma Is The New Sexy. (here's How To Have It) by Chineydum(op): 2:50pm On Sep 16, 2017
Charisma is the New Sexy. Here's how to have it.

You can't help but notice the command they possess when they walk in to a room. Their presence seems to change everything and they immediately become the cynosure of everyone's attention.

Yet they seem to be doing nothing. It's something in their beings. It something you can't explain. It's something about them. It's something you want to learn. And you can learn it because nobody is born with it. That something is charisma.

Practise these tips and become a person of Charisma.

Smile

To put out your charismatic side, you need to appear and portray a confident and cheerful outlook.
A simple smile which takes about 9 facial muscles brightens up your countenance and puts you on a more approachable position where people see you as confident.

A stern and pensive look on the other hand makes you look insecure and cocky eliminating any aura of charisma.

When a speaker stands in front of a crowd with a stern and overly serious look, what do you make of their personality. Charismatic? Try to picture a speaker walking up to the audience and looks at a mammoth of crowd with a warm smile on his face. What do you think of him? Charismatic!

Listen

Many people today listen with the intent of replying rather than understanding the piece of information conveyed.

Charismatic individuals are conscious of the fact that they can make a vital contribution to the issue being discussed and that only comes from a good understanding of the information passed across.

They do this from a place of respect and value for the individual and his thoughts.

Humor

Make a person laugh and you have won his or her heart. On meeting people try not to be too serious. We are humans and not robots. Slip in your sense of humor in a clever manner and the other person will grab it quickly.

Knowing when to be funny and serious is the art that people of confidence and charisma have mastered. Master it and people will think of you when they think charisma.

Relax

Never do things in a harried and hurried manner. That is a character trait devoid of one who exudes charisma. Individuals with charisma understand that they are in control, therefore they never allow situations overwhelm them.

Think of a medical doctor in an emergency situation. They are calm and composed, focused on the important thing to do. When you exercise control over situations without allowing emotions to becloud your judgement, you are on your way to becoming a person of charisma.

Charisma is a character you should strive to get. And like every other skill, it can be learnt.

Practise these skills over and over till they become second nature and you will add charismatic to the list of adjectives that well describe you.

Go ahead. Live with Charisma.

Pen to paper, a message to deliver is the utmost desire of every writer. Journey with me on the roller coaster of my thoughts as we ponder on this beautiful message of self worth.

The crowd is cheering, the atmosphere is all pumped up and eclectic. You can feel the energy and everyone is in high spirits especially the wonderful ladies.

Every girl has a celebrity idol and they will scream and do awkward things when they see them in real life. They go ahead to buy autographed items for a very high price, why? Because it possesses the signature of the one they adore, admire and aspire to become.

In today’s world where many seek validation and social acceptance in wrong places such as social media, people depend on the likes and label others give them to live their life. We have become so engrossed and lost in the signature others put on us like the autograph of the celebrity.

We have accepted our lives to be the ordinary item that needs an autograph to increase its worth when in real sense it real value and worth is not increased by mere placing of ink on it by a human hand. It is time we got the change we’ve always wanted and look at things as they really are.

Ladies your value and worth don’t come from how many likes you get for posting a selfie, it comes from within and you’ve got to believe this because it is sincerely coming from an honest dude. It comes from how you see yourself, your validation comes from those words you tell yourself when you are alone.

Do you tell yourself that you are not ordinary that you are an epitome of magnificence, a masterpiece, that you are great, purposeful and invaluable in this world?

Take that selfie how you like it and don’t post it on social media. Stand in the mirror and marvel at the wonder in the real you. Do yoga. Take dance classes. Read a new book. Call someone. Live.

If anyone should put a label on an item it has got to be the rightful owner. You are not an item or an object. You are a being. You and your body belong to you and you possess the sole right to label it what you want.

On that note I will sign off as you go ahead to live a life that has your own signature inked on it.

FashionAre You Also A Lady Who Struggles With Her Imperfections? by Chineydum(op):
The Beauty of Imperfection

The mirror is green, her favorite colour. She doesn't like pink as the society says she should. It has seen her tears and has been with her through her journey of learning to embrace who she is, offering her it's candid perspective, hoping that one day she will remove the veil that blinds her to the truth screaming at her every time she looks into it.
She looks right into the mirror starring at her image with disdain and disappointment.

She pecks at the blemishes on her cheeks. She frowns because she doesn't look like the model on the cover page of the Vogue magazine lying on her bed. Download complete.

She makes a swipe on her smart phone and opens the video entitled how to carve the perfect eyebrows. She copies the instructor following every step meticulously like a zombie in an attempt to get the perfect eyebrows.

After 30minutes of mindless copying, she is frustrated and her self esteem wanes because her looks like are tangential to what the video claims she should look like.

This is not the first time she has repeated this process which ends in the very same way every time. Tears trickle down her eyes and she hates herself. She is alone in her room embracing solitude and the warmth of its sadness.

Inside her head she hears these words loudly, words that tear down her soul, her esteem and pride.

Words that bellitle, demean, and magnify her flaws. She hears these words anytime she stands in front of the mirror, the words of society, low self esteem and rejection. They contort the image she sees reflected in the mirror. The voice yells louder.

You are Ugly! You are lonely! You are single!

She whips her head back and forth in attempt to silence the voice within, to restore her sanity, to regain her peace but the method doesn't suffice because the voice is internal.

It emanates from her mind- the thoughts flashing inside - from her stereotypical definition of perfection and from the misleading voice of society.

She cries. It's the only thing she can do. A genuine way of letting out your heart.
She cries because it helps to pour out your soul and gives your heart a warm console.

She cries because it's the way the eyes speak when words won't suffice as a valid means of expression.

What she doesn't know is that she will never be perfect. She will never have the perfect eyebrows, the perfect shape, the perfect tummy, boobs, butt, lips and eyes. Because perfect is not a word that should be used to describe body parts.

She will never be perfect until she listens to the truth of the mirror and love herself for who she is.

She will never be perfect until she realizes that society is not a person and doesn't have a voice, that she can change society if she changes herself and that she can give society the voice it lacks.

She will never be perfect until she embraces the beauty of imperfection, that we all are imperfect and therein lies true beauty and perfection, when we embrace our imperfections.
