UPDATE: Nzukora Nnewi, the most powerful organ of Ndị Nnewi has condemned the invasion of the town by hoodlums under the umbrella of the outlawed IPOB. The apex organization of Ndị Nnewi also confirmed that those miscreants are not Nnewi indigenes. While urging the police to bring perpetrators to book, Nzukora also sympathized with the force over their loss and warned Igbos to stay clear of Nnewi.
Recall that some hoodlums under the umbrella of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) stormed Nnewi from Abia State and disturbed the peace of marketers going about their lawful businesses in name of protest. The hoodlums also attacked police men in duty, destroyed and burnt police vehicles. The armed IPOB members were later dispersed by a team of mobile policemen and other security agencies but unfortunately one of the police men was killed in the process.
The timely intervention of security agencies prevented what would have been a black Friday in Nnewi. The prompt condemnation of the invasion of Nnewi by Igbos by Nzukora Nnewi is commendable because ndị Nnewi are diligent and wise people, and CANNOT involve themselves in unlawful activities.
IPOB: NOTE WELL, NNEWI IS SACRED
We the people of NNEWI condemned the infiltration of NNEWI by some misguided youths disguised as IPOB.
The Igbo culture upholds the sanctity of human life and preserves same against all odds.
In Nnewi the shedding of human blood for whatsoever reason is not an option from time immemorial; to underscore this point even the Nigerian troop during the dreaded Biafran awakening crises did not get to NNEWI and no record of single massacre in NNEWI.
We wish to let the general public note that killing for whatsoever reason; especially, under the umbrella of Biafra agitation is alien to Ndi Nnewi and is totally unacceptable to us.
Nnewi culture is purely Hellenistic and we believe in dialogue as the most superior tool for any adventure. Thus, we uphold the principle of superior reason and do not condon violence for whatsoever reason under the mother earth and on Anaedo territory.
Therefore, we charge the security agencies to use all available resources to bring the perpetrators of this unprovoked attack/demonstration to book.
We have invested so much energy in training our youths and engaging them meaningfully and wish to state with every degree of certitude that the perpetrators of this act are not indigens of our prestigious cum sacred town.
We empathise with the Nigerian Police Force over their lost and the family of those who lost their life as a result of this rascality. May their souls rest in peace.
Finally, Nnewi is predominantly industrial area and the peace of Nnewi is not negotiable as a growing economy in Africa. When next you wish to protest direct it to appropriate quarters/locations.

Desperate Ugwuanyi urges Enugu journalists to black out VP visit .

Spokesman of Ayogu Eze Compaign Organisation. Ezirigwe Eze has accused the PDP- led government of Enugu State of desperate move to blackout the coming of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to Enugu State.

Eze alleged that reporters of some news organisations were ordered by Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, to play down on the visit of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to the state.
The VP is in Enugu to commission the campaign office of the All Progressives Congress Governorship Candidate, Senator Ayogu Eze.
He will also attend the book presentation former Governor Sullivan Chime, who is APC leader in the state.
While condemning the alleged gagging of the media in Enugu state, the APC campaign spokesman said
"reporters confirmed this morning that a text message from the government House, Enugu directed the affected journalists to assembled for an urgent briefing by 8 am". "Reporters of the state government owned media were directly ordered to stay off the visit".
According to him, " at the breakfast meeting Ugwuanyi directed the reporters not to make the visit a big issue.
"In the last one week, the governor had adopted a provocative approach to handling the activities of the opposition APC in the state to the consternation of the federal government".

"Early in the week, thugs believed to be from the PDP brought down bill boards put in place by the APC and its candidates, the governor denied the owner of Rocana advertising permission to display the APC governorship welcome advert on the billboard along the Akanu Ibiam International airport, Enugu.
This according to him, is in spite of the payment of about 2 million already made to Rocana limited, the statement added.

Tragedy struck today in the IMSU community as fight leaves girlfriend dead and boyfriend hospitalized, our correspondent confirms.

The ugly incident which happened at Joe Tony Hostel, IMSU backgate reportedly took place this evening. Reports had it that a boyfriend and a girlfriend allegedly called it quits on their relationship and the boyfriend finding no reason why the properties/items he bought his girlfriend should remain with her stormed her lodge to retrieve the objects when he was stabbed by the deceased.

The deceased on seeing the outcome of the hasty stab reportedly drank poison. They were both rushed to Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri were the female was pronounced dead on arrival while the boyfriend was placed on oxygen support.

Reports from other quarters have it that, the girlfriend, Agomuo Jennifer -a 400 level student of Computer Science – had an heated exchange of words with her boyfriend – a student of Engineering department- which led to physical fight and then use of weapons, wherein they both stabbed each other. And while the boyfriend sustained injuries, the girlfriend gave up the ghost.

The All Progressive Congress in Enugu State has cried out over what it called “threat to democracy” as it accused the ruling People’s Democratic Party of destroying billboards and other campaign materials of candidates of the APC.

Chairman of the party in the state Dr Ben Nwoye who made the allegation while addressing newsmen at the party secretariat accused the current administration of o stifling the media in despite littering the state with billboards.

Nwoye said all advertising space in Enugu metropolis has been hijacked and life size billboard of the incumbent Governor being eulogized by praise-singers even as no meaningful achievements has been recorded.

The APC Chairman disclosed that the billboard of the APC’s governorship candidate at Shoprite junction and that of the senatorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial zone at Enugu Stadium were destroyed using the instruments of the State.

“By our last check/count, the PDP led government has over 2294 billboards across the 17 LGA areas in the state.

“Despite having this huge number of billboards, they now want to stifle the APC in Enugu State by intimidating owners of billboards ensuring we don’t get a space to advertise Mr. President and our own gubernatorial candidate, Sen. Ayogu Eze”.

“Because they have no achievements to showcase in those LGA and round the streets of Enugu, they showcase billboards, to worsen the situation, wherever the APC finds a space, and mount their billboard, no matter how remote the area is, they ensure it is dismantled, destroyed burnt to ashes and the ashes carted away”

“It becomes very important for the public to know this, the APC paid up 2 million advance payment to Rocanna limited for an available space at the airport round about, to welcome His Excellency, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo, the Vice President of Federal Rebublic of Nigeria and to lunch his campaign in the southeast due to the strategic position of Enugu in the Southeast.

“The government of the PDP muscled Rocanna into retaining our money, the product itself that’s the print itself which costs over 600,000 and refusing to mount the billboard which is supposed to be in the paid position for 3 months. He has the materials and he’s informing us that because of the interference of the State government, he can no longer allow us to use the billboard as a way of advertising our party and the achievements of President Muhammad Buhari to the people of south East” Barr. Nwoye said.



Nwoye who promised a rousing welcome for the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo on Friday, for the book launch of the leader of the party in the state, and immediate past Governor, Sullivan Chime, said the party will deliver President Mohammadu Buhari and all APC Candidates in the state unlike the abysmal 30 % votes being promised the President in some quarters.

When contacted, the CEO of Rocanna Limited, Robert Oji, said he was not aware that billboard paid for by candidates of the APC in the state have not been mounted.

Meanwhile, the state PDP chairman, Augustine Nnamani did not respond to calls made to him to clarify claims by the APC in the state.

Hausa community in Enugu



Arewa community in Enugu state have thrown their weight behind the aspiration of the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2019 governorship election, senator Ayogu Eze.

The members drawn from different markets and zones in the state including Ogui, Asata, Artisan, Emene, Abakpa and Gariki said it is only the candidacy of Ayogu Eze that can guarantee the protection of their inalienable rights as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution.

Speaking separately at a solidarity visit to the APC governorship candidate in the state, leader of the Hausa Community in Enugu State Alhaji, Aminu Saidu, Arewa Youth leader, Hamza Buba, former Vice-Chairman, Hausa Community and leader New Artisan Market, Alhaji Umaru Saduiq, Co-ordinator Ogui, Abdulahi Musa as well as Alhaji Ume Dauda, Secretary New Artisan Market and Udegbunam Chukwu, Treasurer , lamented the forceful takeover of the new artisan market by the current administration which they said has made life unbearable for them.

While appealing to Ayogu Eze to restore the market when he enters Lion Building, they promised to mobilize all their members across the 19 Northern states living in Enugu to vote for the APC candidate.

According to them, Senator Eze have a proven track record and has the capacity to deliver dividends of democracy to the people of the state who are in dire need of inclusive and good governance.

Responding, the APC governorship candidate, Senator Eze who thanked the Arewa Community in the state for their endorsement said the party in the state will deliver 90 % of the votes for President Mohammadu Buhari.

He said Enugu state and other south east states cannot continue to play opposition politics saying “we want to carry Enugu to the federal level so that we will not be discriminated.

“APC is a party for all. Igbos are at a disadvantage and President Buhari has promised us that 2023 he will hand over power to Igbos to govern Nigeria”.

He also promised the Hausa community that when elected ,they will be integrated into his administration’s agricultural revolution programme.

“As for your market, maybe you want the old market back, but we are going to modernise your business. There are people we are discussing with in Brazil, who are going to bring machines for you to improve the way you process your meat. We will use the money from AFDP, World Bank and other agencies in Germany and in Britain. We will modernize and build a bigger place for you. All your cattle will not travel all the way from the north again. We have a big agricultural programme for all residents of Enugu who have interest in Agriculture.

On political inclusion and appointment, the APC governorship candidate, said everybody will be carried along irrespective of tribe and religion.

“You can remember that the first Mayor of Enugu Umaru Atine is an Hausa man. We are going to make sure that we return to that era, where Hausa, Yoruba and other people coming to sit with us in the state House of Assembly.

In 2015 there was an Hausa man who ran for the House of Assembly, Aminu Usman, the next one we will make sure, he will not just run but he will win.

In a remark, former governorship candidate of the APC in the 2015 election in the state, Chief Okey Ezea thanked the Arewa Community for endorsing the APC candidate, Ayogu Eze whom he said has the capcity to the fortunes of Enugu people around.

He urged them to mobilize their friends across ethnic and religious divides living in the state to ensure that APC wins the governorship and presidential elections as well as other elective positions.

“We have no doubt that you will vote for APC. But most of the times in Enugu state, opposition parties are shortchanged. It is not as if we don’t have popular support but after voting, figures are manipulated. So I urged you to be determined agents of the party in the various units to ensure that no agent is bought over. Because that is the greatest problem we face in Enugu state.”

“We need hard work and mobilization. Tell your friends to vote APC and everybody will benefit” He added.

Olu Onemola, aide to Senate President Bukola Saraki on new media, says a trending audio recording of his principal is fake.

In the recording, Saraki was quoted as saying he spent between N200 million and N400 million in each of 30 states on the election of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

The senate president also purportedly accused Buhari of punishing the people of Kwara state by starving them of appointments.

But in a series of tweets on Saturday, Onemola said the recording was released by “online henchmen and mercenary influencers”.

He said it is a doctored audio file meant to mislead the public.


“For the record: we always restrain from responding to inconsequential issues that we can otherwise ignore. However, in order to put this issue to rest so that we can move on to real issues, these are the facts,” he tweeted,

“The audio recording that is being circulated online by known anti-Saraki henchmen is a doctored recording. It was probably part of the mix of manipulations that APC decided to employ for today’s election in four LGAs in Kwara south.

“Dr. Saraki, in his response to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in August 2018, stated emphatically that he left the APC because the minimum conditions for peace, cooperation, inclusion and a general sense of belonging did not exist”.

“Additionally, in that same response to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dr. Saraki emphasized that he “never discussed any such personal and pecuniary benefits with anybody.” Again, we still challenge that anybody who has contrary facts should come forward.

“Finally, we ask the public to understand that in their desperation to hang on to power, agents of the ruling party are stooping to new lows by doctoring and releasing such audio files. We expect more of such desperate moves. Fake news, remains fake news. Their lies remain lies.”

As campaign for Presidential and National Assembly elections commences today nationwide, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has alerted the Online media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN) that the All Progressive Congress, APC, will soon flood online tabloids with false performance indices, deception and propaganda ahead of the 2019 elections.

Spokesman of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan stated this yesterday while playing host to the association led by its National President, Mr. James Emeh ob a courtesy visit to the party’s national secretariat, Abuja.

The publicity scribe stressed that in the past three and a half years, life has been traumatising for Nigerians and Nigerians, adding that a change in government has become inevitable.

The former Governor of old Anambra State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Jim Nwobodo, has applauded Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for his commitment and contributions to the remarkable feats recorded by the Rangers International Football Club of Enugu, in lifting the 2015/2016 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) trophy and 2018 AITEO Cup after 32 years and 35 years, respectively.
Senator Nwobodo,who narrated how he became Governor of old Anambra State through his passion and support for Enugu Rangers, expressed delight that after 32 years the club did not win a trophy, “Gov. Ugwuanyi whose name is also Ifeanyi” came in and opened the door of victory for the club.

Speaking at the grand reception for the 2018 AITEO Cup Champions, the former governor described the club’s recent feat as “the miracle of Asaba” made possible because Gov. Ugwuanyi’s entrustment of Enugu State into the hands of God.

He said that football is a unifying factor for all segments of the society and stressed that Rangers’ outstanding performance under Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration has united everybody in the state, saying: “I am here because of Rangers and Gov. Ugwuanyi”.

Describing Gov. Ugwuanyi as his “junior brother”, Senator Nwobodo stated that he was happy with his style of leadership and commitment to God, maintaining that the AITEO cup won by Flying Antelopes in Asaba was a miracle and “only God performs Miracle not Satan”. He therefore congratulated the new Champions for doing the state proud.

In his address, Gov. Ugwuanyi, who dedicated the trophy to God, stated that the event was “in thanksgiving and praise to the merciful Lord for yet another prayer that He has answered and for all that He has been doing for us in Enugu State”.

According to him, “for 35 years, the club had labored in vain for victory in the National Football Challenge Cup having won its last trophy in the competition in 1983. Again, by the special grace of God, that jinx was however broken on the 24th of October, 2018 when, in what is now popularly referred to as the “Miracle of Asaba”, the club came back from a 0-3 deficit to defeat the Kano Pillars Football Club and win this year’s edition of the competition now known as the AITEO Cup”.

The governor, who disclosed that he was “profoundly grateful and humbled” that the remarkable achievements were happening under his watch as Governor of Enugu state, also expressed gratitude to the management, coaching crew and players of the club for their sacrifices, hard work and commitment.

He equally thanked all stakeholders and teeming supporters of Rangers across the country and beyond, including the people of Enugu State, for their fervent and unceasing prayers “for this day of glory as well as the overall success of our administration”.

Gov. Ugwuanyi further stated that his administration has resolved to restore the legacy of Enugu State as a centre of sports excellence and breeding ground for sporting talents in the country, noting that “as a government, we have always believed that sports offers tremendous opportunities for economic growth, empowerment, employment generation, poverty alleviation as well as progressive youth and social development”.

We were speaking to wealthy Imolites about our shared ambition to ‘do something’ in our home of Imo State Nigeria.

[Small chops = young ladies]. The moment those words were uttered, I glanced at Mrs Njoku and realised I had lost.

The Land of the Small Chops. They were talking about the reason many people (read men) throughout the East and South South region come to Owerri for the weekend. Some called it ‘hospitality’, others call it ‘tourism’. The abundance of hotels is the telling fact. Euphemisms. I call it what it is. They come for the girls (aka small chops). They come for the Adas of Owerri. Strangely some were bragging about it. Like it was a good thing. I understand sex tourism may work for Thailand (they have other things, they do) or Dominican Republic. But for Owerri? Ayogu Eze has accused the Government of Enugu State of forcing civil servants in the state to submit particulars of their PVC

The Senator Ayogu Eze Campaign Organisation has accused the Government of Enugu State of forcing civil servants in the state to submit particulars of their Permanent Voter Card as prerequisite for collection of December salary.

This disclosure was made by the spokespseron of Ayogu campaign organization, Barr. Steve Oruruo at their campaign office in Enugu. Speaking to journalists during a press briefing, Barr Orurua said the act is equally extended to traders, retirees and students in the state.
“The latest in the series of the actions of the government of the day is what have been brought to our notice; which is that Enugu workers, traders, retirees and even vulnerable students are been compelled and coerced, to surrender the particulars of their voters cards through photocopies and the rest”.

The former Peoples Democratic Party Secretary in the state also accused some unscrupulous and unmindful element in the Independent National Electoral Commission of conniving with PDP-led government of Enugu state to scuttle the will of justice and also to manipulate the electoral process.

While condemning the action, Oruruo called on relevant agencies to investigate the alleged compulsion of eligible voters to divulge details of their PVCs adding that the APC in the state will not fold her arms and watch the rights of the people to vote the candidate of their choice trampled upon.

“This is condemnable and unacceptable. Their freedom should remain unimpeded; their right to make a choice should be permanent”.

“This is disheartening, It is their right; it shouldn’t be a bait for December salary that you have to submit your voters’ card”.

“To all intent and purposes, it is condemnable like I said, but I know it is being done with a mission to manipulate the system and also to hack the database of INEC and see how the electoral process can be manipulated”.

“But we are awake and we want to also confirm to our teaming supporters and the Enugu electorates who desperately want a better Enugu State that they should relax and go about their businesses without entertaining any fear” Orurua Said.

On the overall performance of the current administration in the state led by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Oruruo insisted that “the government has performed so woefully”.

“Enugu is lying in comatose. Enugu is ruined and nothing has been done”.

“The government has completely under-performed because the interest and value of the citizens have been completely ignored”.

“The people are yearning for change and the windows of change are available. So, we sustain the views in terms of availability of options. Options must be created so that our people can vote and vote into prosperity”.

“The redundancies you see today, the lack of productivity shall be a thing of the past”.

“Ayogu Eze comes with a difference. What he is bringing to Enugu people is the recovery of the state, redemption of the state. A redemption song is going on and I believe that people are attracted to this song”.

“They want a fair deal, they want a renaissance; they want a rebirth of the respect Enugu has been commanding since. They want a situation where our people will flourish, succeed and excel, courtesy of opportunities provided by government”.

“Obviously, the social contract has not been met and our people are yearning for change”.

The Ayogu Eze campaign spokesman also fingered the state government to what he described as a “rebellious” petition written by the Chairman, Enugu State Gaming Commission Harrison Ogara and an elder brother of Barrister Tagbo Ogara who was also one of the aspirants APC last governorship primaries that was roundly defeated by Sen. Ayogu Eze.

“Having said this, the next in line is the smear politics and campaign of calumny being orchestrated against the candidacy of Senator Ayogu Eze who is the candidate of APC for 2019 governorship election”.

“You can see the hand of the devil in it, you can see the connectivity, you can see the main case, it is being orchestrated by the government to create a kind of bad image about a candidate whose qualities are known and who is apparently indestructible”.

“We also want to send out a message to our true supporters and the people of Enugu to remain calm. Let investigations be carried out by the anti-graft agencies that we trust that they know their jobs”.

“We are calling on Enugu people in their thousands to remain steadfast with the love and passion they have for change”.

“The conspiracy of silence has come to an end. Enugu people are about to react and they want to do that innocently, legally. Emasculation of the polity should be totally abhorred”.

“Security agencies should carry out investigations and INEC should ensure that there are no leakages”.

Enugu Political cyberspace has been busy with the story of the legendary folklorist, Gentleman, Mike Ejeagha as the two frontline governorship aspirants in the state, Sen. Ayogu Eze of the All Progressive Congress, APC and the incumbent governor and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP turned his home in Abakpa into a political Mecca.

This fireworks by politicians in the state was ignited by a social crusader and social media influencer, Charles Ogbu, who took to his Facebook wall to narrate the current unpalatable state of the Igbo music icon.



Mr Charles who is famous for always standing with Igbo course and never failed to lend his voice in matters affecting his people visited the living legend on Thursday, 8th November, 2018.

After his visit, he narrated the condition of Gentleman Ejeagha and called on Igbo sons and daughters to come to his aid.

After 48 hours of making the post, the situation attracted politicians in the state and they wasted no time in visiting the icon.

The candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Senator Ayogu Eze was the first to enter the ring. He visited Mr. Ejeagha at about 10:45am on Saturday, 10th November, 2018. During the visit, Sen. Ayogu expressed his willingness to come to the aid of the music legend and possibly lift his living condition and that of his family.

Court Strikes out Samdaddy’s Suit, Orders him to pay Ihedioha, PDP, N.2m and N.1 respectively.
A Federal High Court in Owerri, today struck out the primary suit filed by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, first runner up at the recently conducted PDP governoship primaries.
The Court also ordered Senator Samuel Anyanwu to pay to the respondents, the sum of N300, 000 for unnecessary delay of court process, uncoordinated approach to the court processes.
While N100, 000 out of the sum will be paid to the 1st Respondent, PDP, the sum of N200, 000 will be paid to the the winner of the Imo PDP governoship primaries, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha CON, 2nd Respondent.
The trial judge scolded Samdaddy’s counsel for poor coordination and lack of seriousness in pursuit of their matter.
Meanwhile, the judge adjourned the matter to the 19th of November, 2019 for the determination of the issues of jurisdiction for the consideration of the amendment sought by Senator Anyanwu.
From look of things, the implication is that Senator Anyanwu, doesn’t even know what he wants from the court, such that even last night, his lawyers were seen withdrawing and amending processes.
Speaking to news men after the adjournment, Dr. Joseph Ukoha, frowned at attempts by Senator Samuel Anyanwu to compromise the agents who have signed the results of the primaries.
He said, “everyday attempts are being made to induce the agents of the other governoship aspirants who have congratulated Rt. Hon. Ihedioha on his transparent victory at the primaries with huge monetary offers to withdraw their signatures from the result sheet.
“But thank God, they are men of integrity who cannot be compromised, no matter the amount of offers made to them. Nothing can make them hurt their conscience and turn themselves against the deprived and impoverished people of Imo State who have seen liberation and hope in the candidature of Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha.”
Also speaking, the PDP Coordinating PDP Chairman of Chairmen in the higher institutions in Owerri, Comrade Uka Ori, said, the goodnews is that the PDP in the State is very focused. The primaries of the party have been concluded, with candidates emerged. The party is poised to winning the elections in collaboration with the electorate. Politicians must learn to bear the pain of defeat. It can happen to anybody. If you are into politics only to win, then when you loose you become a bad looser. We must learn not to be bad losers. Anybody distracting the PDP at this Gods given time is truly an enemy of the party.

*Ekweremadu, Wife, Son, Escape Assassination Attempt*

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, his wife, and son escaped an assassination attempt at about 4am on Tuesday.

The armed men discreetly evaded the security at Ekweremadu’s Apo Quarters residence, to gain entry into his house.

The attackers, who could not immediately shoot in order not to attract the attention of the security personnel on duty, took hold of his son, and commanded him to lead them the Senator’s bedroom.

It was at the Senator’s bedroom that a struggle ensued, leading to the arrest of one of the assailants with dangerous weapons and housebreaking devices, while the rest managed to escape.

The arrested member of the gang has, however, refused to divulge any information on the operation and has been handed over to the police.

Ekweremadu, his wife, and one of his sons were in the house at the time of the attack.

It could be recalled that the lawmaker narrowly escaped an attempt on his life in Abuja on November 17, 2015.

Although the 2015 incident was reported to the security agencies, nothing has been heard about the matter till date.

UNN Senior Staff Association Honors Ugwuanyi with an Award of Excellence

In a bid to encourage quality leadership in governance, the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, (SSANU), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), on Friday honored Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu with an Award of Excellence.

The Association presented the Award to the Governor at the Nsukka Campus of the University during a workshop it organized to improve the technological capabilities of staff and students in the institution.

Presenting the Award, the chairman, UNN SSANU caretaker committee, Comrade Emma Ugwuja said that the Committment showcased by Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi towards sustainable development of the State deserved a lot of commendations and encouragement.

Ugwuja described as impressive and highly encouraging the commitment of the state governor to the affairs of the institution, adding this “award is intended to celebrate and encourage the governor for his distinguished efforts in making the state the most peaceful and development oriented in Nigeria.

“Under three and half years in office, the Governor has not only given quality leadership but has made the state a safe environment for investments and businesses”.

Ugwuja who described as path- breaking the workshop organized by the Union, said that the event was geared towards sensitizing members of the union and the entire university community in the direction of greater awareness of the opportunities available for them to improve their capabilities so as to contribute to the overall organizational goals of the University through ICT.

“We are trying to re-focus our energies in the direction of issue based activism and we recognize as a union our roles as partners in progress in collaborating with partners and friends of the university in the arduous task of redefining our great university as a centre of excellence” he said.

He said that the workshop was also intended to improve academic and labour productivity in Nigeria noting such was highly needed to take the country to the next level.

Speaking also, the Vice- Chancellor of the University, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba said that staff and students of the institution must continue to leverage on the recent technological and project management capabilities that have become more globally available in other to enhance them to address the huge opportunities of the 21st century.

According to him, the theme of the workshop: “Strategically harnessing the Technology workspace for staff and students to improve productivity” is a topical issue in the current search for accelerated world of development

He explained that Information and communications Technology has continued to evolve globally and across sub Saharan Africa and that this great University has consistently pursued the policy of building for its staff and students the capacity that would enable them align properly with their counterparts in advanced nations

“Our university will continue to focus on any turnkey project that would avail us more the use of technology, particularly on the utilization of online education, e-learning, distant education among others in the Nigerian educational system and the advancement in scientific discoveries that would in the long run, enhance the overall development of the Nigerian economy” he said.

Reacting to the award, Ugwuanyi thanked the union for recognizing his efforts in the state, adding that it further goes to show the extent of cordial relationship that exists between the state government and the University community.

The governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uche Eze said that his administration is development driven which is why he has always made sure that those who voted him into power reap the dividends of democracy.

According to him, leadership is not about propaganda but about promises backed by action. “In the time we have spent so far, we have been able to achieve a lot in terms of infrastructural development. There are good road networks everywhere today because we know the importance of good road networks to economic development”

The governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, on Thursday announced a reward of N1 million on every illegal AK 47 rifle returned to the state government.

The governor, who announced this at a news conference in Gusau, said the gesture had become necessary following the unabated increase in crime, especially abduction in the state.

He wondered why “in 2015, with just about 250 soldiers, the crime rate was low but with over 1,600 soldiers of different categories, we cannot contain crime in the state”.

He said with the proposed engagement of 8,500 youths as civilian task force, those involved would be better equipped in the fight against armed banditry, cattle rustling and kidnapping in the state.

He said that many of the youths that would be engaged would come from the rural areas where the crime rate was higher.

“I am confident that since the locals know the people in their surroundings, they will be quick in detecting any new comer or suspicious movement.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that armed bandits have continued to storm various communities in the state, especially at the rural areas where they kill, maim, abduct people and burn houses, shops and other properties.

The battle over who is the authentic governorship flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Enugu state has been narrowed between Senator Ayogu Eze and Barr. George Tagbo Ogara.
Ogara a young man who joined the race with so mush vigor is not relenting and has vowed to fight till the end .
To show his resolve Ogara has picked running mate in the person of Mrs. Ginika Tor-Williams, from Awgu.
Speaking about his choice of deputy governor he described her as an exceptional woman. “Well read, a member of the fourth estate of the realm, a peace ambassador who has travelled far and wide and publisher of Accolade Magazine. She has a lot of respect, a mobilizer, crusader’ and mother of four; she is a virtuous women and the leaders of the party believe she is the best for the position. She will bring the needed impetus to the position when we get there.”
For him, “Ayogu has just invited war, I am not going to blink. I am young he is old I will run him out. I will show him how it is done. I am used to this kind of battles; I have faced something like this before.
“Ayogu Eze cannot claim to be the candidate; he is an aspirant and can’t turn himself into the National Working Committee. Everybody knows the truth of what happened. That the Minister of Foreign Affairs announced to the whole world that the APC in Enugu State will do the direct primaries. This was contained in a letter which the chairman, Okey Ogbodo sent to the party in response to the letter he received.
The party officials made all the preparations appointed all the returning officers, ward officers that will conduct the primaries, appointed collation officers at the local government level, appointed people at the state level.
“With all the arrangement put in place, just two to three days before the date for the primary, September 29, 2018, our party announced the modes of primary for all the states and surprisingly we saw that the mode of primary for Enugu, for that 29th would be indirect. We quickly communicated to members in Enugu that they say it’s going to be indirect but the problem is that the party didn’t follow the provisions of Paragraph 20 (4 a,b,c,d) of the constitution, 2014 as amended. Which says that if you must have to do indirect you have to do special congresses where you pick out delegates. No such thing as done; there are four procedures stipulated none was done so how are you going to do it?
“Well as faithful party members we all from the 260 wards arrived…before that day it was moved from 29th to 30th which was a Sunday. So everybody arrived and it was rowdy. They tried to keep people out but the upsurge, the number of people who wanted to participate was much even when they had given tags to handpicked persons. After sometime they called us out for a meeting where Prof Momoh informed us at Aaron Suites that he came here for indirect primary that he has no materials for direct primary. He said he had a list which he had not opened and didn’t know who is there but he is sure it is Enugu list. I told him it’s clear a Professor had come to do injustice in Enugu, but we will see how far it can go. We returned to the venue where they used tear gas to chase everyone out and then imported the people they wanted from their hotel rooms. I laid complaints of what Prof. Momoh and Ayogu Eze were doing. My complaint was grudgingly heard, I would say. I requested that Momoh be removed but what they did was that they cancelled the primary of September 30th and turned the mode of primary from indirect to direct. And there was jubilation everywhere in Enugu state.
The party leadership made arrangements and had appointed persons as directed by the party guideline. We were ready but they were no, they were taken by surprise.. So what they did was that held unto Prof. Momoh, and then they held unto the result of the purported result of the election because they said they were almost concluded before it was cancelled. At last the direct primary held and ward officers collated the results and sent to the local governments and then to state. The person appointed Mr. Nwatu , to work with Prof. Momoh was there at the party office and collated the results.
Ayogu knows how to ‘forge’ primary election results
You know Ayogu Eze has a knack for forging primary result. In PDP he did it with Ugwuanyi. He saw that everybody was at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium holding PDP primary he moved to Filbon Hotels, alone, to hold his own primary. Now they said go to the ward, that’s the meaning of direct, he doesn’t know it. They said go to your wards, he went to Nike Lake hotels, captured Prof. Momoh but it became difficult for them to generate 260 ward results, collate them. Did you appoint any person; did you make any arrangement? It’s not something you do in a day, it’s a process.
So he did that his normal behavior which has been judicially noticed. It was noticed at the Federal High Court, it was noticed at the Court of Appeal it was noticed at the Supreme Court, that the Filbon Hotels result is not genuine. So they have taken judicial notice of Ayogu Eze. If something happens twice the court takes judicial notice of it.
We will show him how these things work. So the result was announced there and we sent it to the DSS because we gave them notification that we were going to do direct primaries in 260 wards. So where is Ayogu coming in from? Is it that kind of result from a hotel that he will use to become APC candidate? Well if he succeeds in doing that, I know what to do. We didn’t grow up being fearful; we will slug it out. I expect the NWC to do the right thing …this man is not even qualified to contest the election. Have you seen the guideline for APC primary elections for 2019? It says, “that a person who is aspiring for any position in APC for the 2019 election must produce evidence of membership of the party for at last one year. Violation of any of these guidelines shall attract automatic disqualification.” What this mans is that Ayogu is not qualified to even stand for the election in the first place.
On the possibility of a waiver, he said; ” the constitution of our party says you can obtain waiver if you are not a member of the party so you can contest election. But this guideline said that immediately you don’t have one year evidence of membership you are disqualified; its automatic; it activates itself.
Now, assuming but not conceding it fails to activate, there is provision for waiver as well as procedures for obtaining that waiver. “It says you have to start from your ward. The application has to go to the ward, then to the local government, the state, zone and then to the National working Committee that now grants the waiver. After granting the waiver, the waiver granted will be sent to the National Executive Committee of our great party for approval. We have a similar provision in PDP constitution which was decided by the Supreme Court about three years ago. It says if you fail to follow this procedure you don’t have a waiver. And the last time NEC sat was March 7, 2018. Before that sitting it never sat for about four years. The people that make up the NEC are too many including the President and the Vice so before you call for NEC it’s a serious thing.”

Beneficiaries of the Skill Acquisition programme of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration under the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) on Wednesday paid a ‘Thank You’ visit to the governor at the Government House for transforming their lives for better.

The jubilant beneficiaries, were among the 750 trainees, who are now chief executives of their various businesses, after they were assisted with N100,000 seed money each by the state government early this year, upon attending a one-year free vocational training in focal areas such
as Tailoring, Hairdressing, Haircut and Aluminum works apprenticeship.

Converging on the Government House Enugu, the empowered residents of the state, among who are non-indigenes, said “we have come to say thank you for putting smiles on our faces”.

The self-employed beneficiaries stated that they “have shaken off the cloakof despondency and dependency” through the governor’s empowerment programme, expressing joy that “we have been transformed into the prestigious ranks of chief executives of various businesses
and viable money making establishments”.

They disclosed that prior to the programme, most of them “were merely marking time, depending dangerously on our parents, older siblings and neighbours for money to buy things as minor as soap to take our baths”, saying that today, they have not only been empowered by Gov.
Ugwuanyi’s generosity, but most of them have become employers of labour”.

Speaking, one of the beneficiaries, Tochi Aboh, disclosed that “as I speak, two formerly unemployed indigenes of Enugu State are busy attending to customers in my shop”.

According to her, “instead of begging for money to sustain myself, some of my friends who did not have the fortune of benefitting from the widely celebrated Gburugburu generosity, now pass through my shop to ask for transport money to scout for employment”.

They therefore, prayed for Gov. Ugwuanyi and unanimously pledged to rally support for the governor’s re-election in 2019 and his political ambition beyond 2023 “so as to be able to touch more lives the way you touched ours”.

Responding, Gov. Ugwuanyi, who welcomed the elated beneficiaries to the Government House, told them that “it is God that has done this favour to you”.

While expressing delight that their narrative has changed for good, the governor assured them that more people will be empowered, stressing that the visit has motivated his administration to do more.

He therefore, urged them to continue to pray for the success of his administration for the people to enjoy more democracy dividends.

JUST IN: South East Governors, leaders meeting ends in deadlock over Obi’s nomination as Atiku’s running mate
Meeting of governor s and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in South East zone of the country ended without any resolution regarding the nomination of former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi by the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, as his running mate.
The governors including, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, David Umahi and Okezie Ikpeazu of Enugu, Ebonyi and Abia respectively, met with National Assembly members and other party leaders at the residence of Deputy Senate President (DSP), Ike Ekweremadu in Enugu for more than one hour and ended up not rejecting or accepting Obi’s nomination.
Governor Umahi who spoke to journalists at the end of the meeting said that the leaders of the zone were not consulted before the said nomination.
Umahi, who is also the chairman of the South East Governors Forum, said that the Presidential candidate of PDP, Alhaji Abubakar will meet with South East leaders over the choice of his running mate.
Umahi said the stakeholders meeting of PDP extraction in South East was to brainstorm on the various news making the rounds in the social media concerning the purported choice of the former governor of Anambra state as Atiku running mate.
He said both PDP governors in the zone and indeed other stakeholders were shocked over the news of a vice presidential slot given to Ndigbo whereas no former notice to that effect was given.
Umahi revealed that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar sent in message during their meeting informing them that he was out of the country on a short period and pleaded with them to remain calm that he will be coming down to the zone to dialogue with leaders.
“We saw news flying up and down saying that our presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has picked a running mate from the zone. We were shocked because we were not consulted. While we were meeting, Atiku sent message that he travelled out of the country for a short period. He promised to come down and meet with South East leaders”
Similarly, the vice chairman of PDP, in the South East zone, Augustine Umahi, echoed what the Ebonyi governor said, stressing that leaders of the party in the zone saw the news of Obi’s nomination as running mate in the social media.
“Our leaders are saying that we are not yet aware that such a thing (Obi’s appointment) happened.
“We have gotten in touch him (Atiku), he is traveling tonight and he promised that when comes back we shall meet in that.
“Peter Obi is our son, and is from South East, we are not rejecting or accepting him but we are saying is that we are not aware, you cannot shave a man in his absence,” he said

Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has threatened to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if the leadership of the party in Abuja removed any member of the Kwankwasiyya movement from the list of its aspirants.

Recall that Kwankwaso had held primaries for various elective offices in Kano which were allegedly won by his chosen aspirants, leaving aside other PDP members.

A source within the party confided to Reporters yesterday that the former governor sounded the warning of leaving the party during a meeting held at Legacy House, Abuja.

The meeting, which commenced at 3pm and ended around 5pm, was attended by many PDP stakeholders including Bello Hayatu Gwarzo and Ambassador Aminu Wali among others.

According to the source, the meeting was organised to review the list of aspirants from Kano State.

The Senator Mas’ud El-Jibril Doguwa-led faction of the PDP had also conducted its primaries where candidates emerged for various offices.

It was gathered that in order to have a unified house, the Prince Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee (NWC) brought together all the contending factions with a view to having a win-win situation.

The source said, “Kwankwaso told the gathering that any move to remove any member of Kwankwasiyya from the aspirants list will lead to his defection from PDP.

“However, the Doguwa-led faction also threatened to dump the party if the leadership failed to review the list of aspirants.

The meeting ended in a deadlock…Neither Kwankwaso nor Doguwa faction agreed to accept the terms offered by the leadership of the party,” the source said.

According to him, the leadership of the party in its effort to reconcile the aggrieved members, resolved that the national and state assemblies slots be shared 50-50 between the Kwankwaso and Doguwa factions of the party.

He added that when the meeting reached its peak with no sign of success, the party’s presidential flag bearer and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, sent a former minister of Aviation, Mr Osita Benjamin Chidoka, to intervene on his behalf.

He, however, said the former minister also failed to reconcile the contending factions and the meeting ended without yielding any positive result.

Asked to comment on development, the Public Relations Officer of Doguwa faction of the PDP, Alhaji Musa Danbirni, said he was not aware of the said meeting. “I am not among the people that went to Abuja because I fell sick and I am still at home. So I don’t know what exactly transpired in Abuja.”

The spokesman of Kwankwaso faction of the party, Jamilu Dambatta could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report. On her part, Kwankwaso’s spokesperson, Hajiya Binta Spikin said she was not in Abuja. “It will be wrong for me to talk about party matters; the people that should talk on this are party officials,” she said.

Contacted, a strong pillar of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Aminu Abdulsalam, said he was not aware of the meeting.

Abdulsalam said, “The party’s chairmen, secretaries and other stakeholders were taken to Abuja by a different group with the sole aim of conducting a fresh primary election but to be honest with, the National Vice Chairman (North) told them that he has no mandate to do so.

“He told them it is beyond his powers to hold a meeting with them and he asked them to go back to Kano and await further instruction from the party’s national leadership. That is all I know about this issue,” he said
