Politics / Amosun Snubs Tinubu’s 67th Birthday Colloquium-statereporter News by chinwe1960: 6:05pm On Mar 28, 2019
@ StateReporter News

Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, failed to attend the 11th Bola Tinubu Colloquium, which held in Abuja on Thursday.

Amosun was the only governor from the South-West that failed to attend the colloquium, which is held yearly in commemoration of Tinubu’s birthday.

The Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who represented President Muhammadu Buhari, called out the names of all the governors present, as protocol demands.

They are: Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State; Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State; Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State; his Ekiti State counterpart, Dr. Kayode Fayemi; and Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola.

Others present include: Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu; Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State; his Bauchi State counterpart Mohammed Abubakar; Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shuaibu; former Governor Rauf Aregbesola; and Lagos State Governor-elect, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The presence of the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu; service chiefs and several monarchs were also acknowledged.

However, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, who has been suspended by the APC, was not acknowledged by the Vice-President despite being present. Ditto for Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State.

Amosun, who had attended the last three Bola Tinubu colloquiums, was absent on Thursday.

The Ogun governor, who has been suspended by the APC, has been at loggerheads with Tinubu and other party stalwarts after he was denied the opportunity of hand-picking his successor.

Amosun, who is now a senator-elect, had described Tinubu as a Capo di tutti of Lagos at the height of the crisis.

The Capo di tutti is a term of Italian origin often used to describe the overall boss within a mafia family or group.

The tension reached a climax when Tinubu and others were humiliated at the APC Presidential rally in Abeokuta last month.

A crowd comprising Amosun’s loyalists, shouted ‘thief, thief’ at Tinubu.

Tinubu’s preferred candidate, Abiodun, eventually won the election; but his victory is being challenged by Amosun’s candidate, Adekunle Akinlade, at the election petition tribunal.

Efforts to get comments from Rotimi Durojaiye, the Special Assistant on media to Governor Amosun; or his Special Adviser on Media, Eshiomhomo Imoudu, were not successful.

Both of them did not answer the several calls made to them through their mobile phones.

They also did not reply to the text messages sent to their individual mobile phones.

Politics / Enugu Elections Exceptional, One Of The Best In Country, Says INEC by chinwe1960: 4:46pm On Mar 27, 2019

Enugu elections exceptional, one of the best in country, says INEC

…As Gov. Ugwuanyi, his deputy, assembly members-elect receive Certificates of Return

The national leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commended the peaceful and successful conduct of the just concluded general election in Enugu State, describing it as exceptional, one of the best in the country and a demonstration of “good electoral behavior”.

The electoral umpire added that the exercise in Enugu State, unlike in some states, witnessed no case of “violence, snatching of ballot boxes or all sorts of electoral malpractices”.

The INEC commendation was made by the National Commissioner in charge of Information and Voter Education, Barr. Festus Okoye, during the presentation of Certificates of Return to Gov. Ugwuanyi and Governor-elect, his deputy and the Deputy Governor-elect, Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo and the elected members of the State Assembly led by the present Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Edward Ubosi.

Barr. Okoye, who congratulated the recipients, on behalf of the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, for their victory at the polls, explained that the exercise “is a formal statutory and confirmatory process that you have won an election in accordance with the constitution and electoral dictates”.

He also congratulated “in a very big way, the people of Enugu State for taking ownership of the electoral process and driving it in a very peaceful and conducive atmosphere that fused power and sovereignty back to them”.

Offering advice to the recipients, he said: “The sealed Certificate of Return that will be presented to you is not a trophy that marks the conclusion of your service. Rather it marks the beginning of your service to the people. The validity of the certificate rests with the people of Enugu State. It is within their constitutional mandate to renew, withdraw and or elevate it. The key word is service to the people”.

Earlier in his opening speech, the INEC State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Emeka Ononamadu, who rated the peaceful conduct of the elections in Enugu State high, “with all the promises of fairness, openness and neutrality intact”, maintained that the exercise “was a tortuous journey that did not come at zero cost, but it is also a journey that the entire nation is poised to learn from Enugu”.

According to him, “we set out for 2019 general election with clear vision which resulted in one of the best elections in Nigeria. On behalf of INEC, I wish to thank stakeholders, particularly the political parties, security agencies, traditional rulers, civil society organizations, media, voters and my colleagues in INEC, for their painstaking support in conducting an election which today is being evaluated as one of the best and most peaceful of our time”.

In his brief remark after receiving the certificate, Gov. Ugwuanyi, who appreciated God, thanked INEC and the security agencies for their

Politics / Election Violence: INEC Workers Seek Transfer From Rivers by chinwe1960: 7:25pm On Mar 25, 2019
Some employees of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Rivers State are considering applying for transfer to neighbouring states as a result of election violence that has always characterised every poll in the South-South state.

The INEC workers told our correspondent on Saturday that they were always afraid each time elections approached in Rivers, adding that they were tired of the situation.

One of them, who simply identified herself as Cordelia, said though no local government was safe during election periods in the state, places like Emohua and some riverine areas were more volatile than the others during election time.

She recalled that the fear among INEC workers had increased after an ad hoc worker, Ibisaki Amachree, was allegedly shot dead while she was moving election materials to a registration area centre.

She said, “Majority of us are considering applying for transfer from Rivers State to any other state close to it. This is because of violence. For the past four to five years now, every election in the state has been marred by violence.

“It is not like that in other neighbouring states. Remember that an INEC ad hoc worker lost her life. We learnt that she was shot by a soldier. We are afraid and that is why some of us may begin to seek transfer soon.”

Another employee of the commission, who does not want her name mentioned, said she had agreed with her family to seek a transfer after the supplementary elections in the state.

“I don’t think some of us can be part of the conduct of another election in 2023. The level of violence in the state during the election is disturbing.

“We are INEC staff, but politicians, security agents and thugs intimidate us during the election period,” she added.

Recall that some workers of the commission in the state had sought to be transferred to other local government areas within the state after violence erupted in some areas during the presidential and National Assembly elections.

Some of those who covered Abonnema in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area were said to have asked to be posted to other areas that were less volatile for the governorship and House of Assembly elections.

A two star NSCDC officer, Superintendent Ogah Jumbo Ochigbo was allegedly beaten to death by police men at a check point along Nyanja-Abuja road for alleged traffic offence in front of his wife and two kids. He described as cruel and barbaric the murder of Jumbo Ochigbo and wondered why police men who ordinarily should protect lives and property are now the harbingers of death.
The former Senate boss stated: “No matter what the issue or disagreement was, Jumbo Ochigbo’s death would have been avoided if the police officers on duty applied wisdom and caution in the discharge of their duties”.

Politics / Atiku, PDP Hacked INEC Server – APC Alleges by chinwe1960: 8:37pm On Mar 20, 2019
Yekini Nabena, a spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate in the just concluded general election, Atiku Abubakar, of hacking into the server of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Nabena made the allegation on Wednesday in reaction to the claim by the PDP that Atiku Abubakar actually won the 2019 election from what the INEC server showed.

He wondered how the opposition political party could have gotten the figure without hacking into it.

Nabena wrote on his Twitter handle: “Just tell me how Atiku and the PDP would bring out figures from INEC server without having access to it.

“Atiku recruited RUSSIAN HACKERS for #NigeriaDecides2019. But, GOD pass them.”

Recall that the PDP national legal adviser, Emmanuel Enoidem, had in a petition to the election tribunal requested that Atiku be declared the winner of last month’s presidential poll.

He stated in the party’s 139-page petition that, “

Politics / Rivers Guber: Amaechi Backs AAC’S Candidate-StateReporter News by chinwe1960: 4:45am On Mar 07, 2019
@ StateReporter News
Ahead of the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections slated for Saturday 9th March, 2019, Minister of Transportation and leader of the All Progressive Congress Party in Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has said that the APC will throw its weight behind the candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Engr. Awara Biokpomabo.

Amaechi made this disclosure in Eleme, Rivers State on Wednesday where he addressed party supporters ahead of the Saturday’s elections.

Amaechi said, although the APC was still in Court over the non inclusion of the APC’s flagg- bearer in the governorship election, it was pertinent to adopt the candidate of AAC considering the closeness of the elections.

The AAC candidate Engr.Awara Biokpomabo hails from Kula community in the Riverine area of the Kalabari Kingdom.

Amaechi said, “This morning, the leadership of the party met and agreed that we’ll work with a party called African Action Congress, while we are still in Court to reclaim our mandate. So, on Saturday, we will vote for AAC. You must go home and vote for AAC. There should be no excuse not to vote because there will be security for everybody. You must prepare and make sure you win the governorship election”, he said.

Amaechi enjoined the people to vote for the candidate of the AAC as there were numerous benefits they would derive from government.

“The moment you win the governorship election this Saturday and the Governor is sworn-in in May, by June there will be Local Government elections. So, you should all go out and vote and make sure that you are not rigged out”, he said.

Crime / EFCC Seizes Atiku’s Son-in-law’s Passport-statereporter News by chinwe1960: 3:33am On Mar 06, 2019

EFCC seizes Atiku’s son-in-law’s passport

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s son-in-law’s Abdullahi Babalele’s passport has been seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He is under investigation for alleged laundering of 150million Euro.

Babalele was released on bail yesterday after undergoing interrogation for about 72 hours.

He is being investigated alongside Mr. Uyi Giwa-Osagie (an associate of Atiku) who had earlier been arrested by detectives.

But the anti-graft agency held on to Uyi as at press time because “investigation is still in progress”.

About €67, 950,000 of the 150m Euro has been traced to the accounts of Osagie, Babalele, two slush firms and two Bureau De Change operators.

Of the € 67.9m, Uyi’s account received 26,050,00million Euro between January 9th and 28th, 2019. Babalele is expected to account for 41,900,000 Euro.

An EFCC source, who spoke in confidence, said: “Atiku’s son-in-law has been granted bail but with some conditions, including the seizure of his international passport. The high-level investigation on cash-for-poll allegation requires that we should restrict his movement to the country.

“These conditions will subsist until the ongoing probe is completed.”

Responding to a question, the source added: “Mr. Uyi Giwa-Osagie, who is an associate of Atiku, is still being detained in Lagos. I cannot tell you when he will be released.

“But we have granted bail to a former Minister of Special Duties, Alh. Tanimu Turaki.”

The EFCC released more details of transactions involving Osagie.

A document said: ”On receipt of this intelligence the team booked to Lagos Island market and arrested two BDC operators namely: Abdullahi Shehu who works with Abdullahi Munaciki of Hasbunallahu BDC, Abuja and Lawal A. Politics / Okorocha Can Only Be Suspended At Ward Level, Imo APC Replies Oshiomhole by chinwe1960: 5:26pm On Mar 02, 2019
@ StateReporter News

The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Saturday called on the National Chairman of the party , Adams Oshiomhole , to tender his resignation letter for suspending the governors of Imo and Ogun states.

At a press conference in Owerri , the APC chairman in the state, Daniel Nwafor, said that the suspension of Governors Rochas Okorocha and Ibikunle Amosun was null and void.

Nwafor said that since Oshiomhole emerged the national chairman of the ruling party , he had been disregarding the constitution of the ruling party.

Saying that the state chapter of the APC would not honour the “purported suspension ” of Okorocha from APC, Nwafor said that the former governor of Edo state had outlived his usefulness in APC.

Describing Oshiomhole as a man who had no respect for the rule of law , Nwafor said that the APC national chairman was known for not obeying court orders and judgments .
According to Nwafor, the suspension of Okorocha did not follow due process.

He said that according to the APC constitution , the suspension of any member starts from the ward level and not from the National working committee.

Nwafor said “I am here with the APC chairman from Ogboko ward where the governor hails from . There was no letter from the NWC to him to query the governor for any offence . The truth is that Oshiomhole is a man who has no respect for rule of law . He has a penchant for disobeying valid court judgments and orders.

“ We demand his immediate resignation from APC. Adams Oshiomhole has outlived his usefulness in APC . As a party , we will not honour that purported suspension . It is null and void and of no effect . Governor Rochas Okorocha remains the leader of APC in Imo state.”

The state chairman said that APC in the state had no governorship candidate , even as he maintained that the APC governorship candidate in the state , Senator Hope Uzodinma , was not known by the party.

He said that available records by the party showed that Uzodinma was not

Dynasties rise and fall. It is a natural order.
But there are factors which precipitate the declension of dynasties. For example, the rise and fall of Chinese dynasties was influenced by changes in weather conditions such as drought and famine. When the people are starving and dying of thirst they revolt against their emperors.
The eclipsing of Senate President Bukola Saraki in Kwara state reinforces the power of citizens’ revolt. Mass revolts through the ballot are still potent. It is evident the people of the state have simply grown weary of a unilateral influence and control.

According to an analysis by TheCable, many of the voters did not even know who Saraki’s challenger was. They were poignantly driven by a slogan, which resonated with them, “O to ge”.
I believe the excruciating defeat of Saraki in Kwara marks the end of a political era in the state. But is there another political dynasty of which sunset is nigh?
The voting pattern in the south-west in the presidential election shows that the Jagaban political dynasty may be seeing its last days. Unlike in the 2015 presidential election, where the south-west bloc-voted for the APC, though with the PDP winning in Ekiti state, the 2019 election voting distribution is a departure from the norm.
According to the results released by INEC so far, the PDP won in Ondo state; surprisingly made a very good show in Osun state, and it won in Oyo state as well. This shows that the south-west is conscientious about its actions and it is shaking off the fetters of unilateral influence and control.
I could imagine the Jagaban of Borgu at the height of his powers in the early 2000s, when he dictated the pace and play of politics in the south-west. Wherever he goes, the region goes.

Politics / Atiku/obi Ticket: When Competent Meet Integrity. By Chief Barr. (mrs.) Joy by chinwe1960: 10:58pm On Feb 21, 2019
Atiku/Obi Ticket: when competent meet integrity.
By
Chief Barr. (Mrs.) Joy Jideofor

Integrity and technical skills to handle challenging assignments, fiscal matters, policies, plans, projects, ideas and initiative solutions to problems is all that is needed to transform a backward society like ours. Integrity is consistency of actions, methods, measures, values, principles, expectations and outcomes. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi are best hands needed to lift Nigeria from this shackle of poverty and put the country on the map of industrialised nations.
Right leadership is doing what is right, both legally and morally at all-time even when no one is looking. These two are the best ever produced by a party in the history of Nigeria presidential race.

All business owners and executives have varying experiences and perspectives on the approach and qualities necessary for effective leadership. It is important to note that not all situations require the same type of leadership style. Great leaders adapt to their surrounding environments and empower the team to succeed together. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has proved himself as a good manager and as someone you can trust. The high level of loyalty Atiku command in Nigeria political sphere is a testament to this fact.

My philosophies on leadership have evolved over time through research, experiences as health personnel and recently as a lawyer too and from my successes and failures running my own businesses. I believe that the best leaders are leaders that are passionate about developing and empowering the emerging leaders around them, leaders that are constantly working to improve their intelligence and leaders that know that a strong team culture is the foundation for accomplishing the mission. Thousands of people on the payroll of Atiku’s investments will equally testify to this fact. What else does it require to transform a nation than men who are business and political savvy and highly exposed with strong international connections and acceptance.

With Atiku and Obi, i have no doubt that Nigeria will rise to be one of the industrialised nations with massive job opportunities and booming economy. It takes only but a successful business man like a Atiku to understands that it is the people he lead that ultimately determines the success or failure of any venture.

My beloved Nigerians, I am strongly of opinion that a business tycoons like Atiku will definitely know how to surround himself with great achievers like himself that he can cultivate into a team of competent and confident individuals who will work well as a team to take nigeria into another level . I definitely think that this great match Atiku/Obi will have the ability to guide their chosen team towards a well-defined vision that will help this country to grow . Atiku being a business tycoon and a dynamic man that understand what a mandate is and what it takes to achieve it , I think he will have the ability to deliver. His wealth of experiences in management will help him definitely to inspire confidence and trust among the teams he will choose to work with for better nigeria . Ultimately, a great leader creates and nurtures other leaders. There are thousands of Youth that can attest to this fact. Millions of people whose daily survival lies in the hands of several investments owned and being managed by Atiku and Obi.

In my own opinion my beloved Nigerians , I will tell you that we will be making a big mistake not to elect Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. They are equal to the best hands needed to salvage this country from this economic quagmire and tension everywhere in the country. It is sad to point out that in history of this great country, there was no time Nigeria has ever witnessed tribal sentiment and ethnic jingoism like this administration. A detribalized man like Atiku is what Nigeria need now to heal from this self inflicted injury as a result of ineptitude leadership. My people , With vast experience in political and economic realities, the pair of Atiku and Obi is a big plus to Nigerian as a country . A vote for Atiku Abubakar is a vote for Nigerian economic renaissance and leading investment destination in the world.

Is time we rise from our existential slumber, do away with religious sentiments and ethnic bigotry and join hands and work for Nigeria that bring security and jobs to its people.
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is the rightc man. A vote for PDP is a vote for our collective future and prosperity. My fellow Nigerians, now your future lies in your hand and vote. Please do not sit back in your house and allow others make this decision for you and your children . Come out with your family and friends on 23rd Feb and make the wisest decision in your life, vote for Atiku Abubakar and PDP Candidates all the way .

Politics / Suit Challenging Atiku Eligibility To Be Heard On Monday, 25th February, 2018. by chinwe1960: 9:15am On Feb 20, 2019
@ StateReporter News
The suit filed by Incorporated Trustees of Egalitarian Mission for Africa before Federal High Court, Abuja to disqualify the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, from contesting the February 16 presidential election is to be heard on Monday, 25th February, 2018 by Hon. Justice I. E. Ekwo of Court 6 of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The group wants Atiku disqualified over alleged circumstances surrounding his citizenship.

The suit, which was filed on the 11th day of February, 2019 is seeking an interpretation of Sections 25 (1) & (2) and 131 (a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

The group named the PDP, the Independent National Electoral Commission, and the Attorney- General of the Federation and Minister of Justice as Defendants in the suit.

It also wants the court to determine the following questions, viz:
1. Whether Section 25 of the Constitution is the sole authority that spells out ways by which a person can become a Nigerian citizen by birth?
2. Whether by the provisions of Section 131 (a) of the Constitution, only a Nigerian citizen by birth can contest for the office of president?
3. Whether by the combined interpretation of Sections 25 (1) & (2) and 131 (a) of the Constitution and given the circumstances surrounding the birth of Alhaji Atiku, he can be cleared by PDP and INEC to contest for office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria?

The Plaintiff, in the suit, said that if the court resolves the issues in its favour, it should declare that by the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, only a Nigerian citizen by birth can contest for President.

In an affidavit deposed in support of the Plaintiff’s action, the deponent averred that Atiku was born on November 25, 1946.

“That from Atiku’s own testimony that is gazetted and published in most national dailies in circulation, he is from Jada town in Adamawa and Jada used to be in Ganye Local Government Area in Adamawa.

“That Ganye is regarded as the mother of the whole Chamba tribe and was never part of Nigeria legally as at the date of birth of Atiku.

“That none of Atiku ’s parents or grandparents was born in Nigeria and his father died a citizen of Northern Cameroon in 1957 prior to the referendum of June 1, 1961 that made Northern Cameroon a part of Nigeria.

Politics / Vote Whoever You Like, I’m Not Afraid – Buhari by chinwe1960: 1:50pm On Feb 19, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari, Monday, in Abuja asked Nigerians to vote whoever they want in the presidential election.

Buhari expressed confidence, saying he was not afraid going into the polls.

President Buhari spoke at the All Progressives Congress, APC, emergency caucus meeting at the party’s secretariat, in Abuja on Monday.

Buhari said, “We are not going to be blamed of trying to rig the elections. I want Nigerians to be respected. Let them vote whoever they want across the parties. I am not afraid, I have gone to all 36 states and Abuja and I think I have enough support across the country.”

He urged all APC supporters to vote peacefully in the upcoming elections.

‘‘We have so much to do and I think we should again go back to our loyal, committed people in all constituencies. If anything happens we have nobody to blame.

We have to tell our constituencies that they have to be patient and act in a very responsible way by going peacefully to vote again, and they should depend on party representatives at each of the 176,000 polling units,’’ he said.

Politics / ELECTIONS POSTPONEMENT:2019 Budget,minimum Wage Bill To Be Delayed-lawmakers by chinwe1960: 12:35pm On Feb 17, 2019
The National Assembly has condemned the postponement of the general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, stating that passage of the 2019 Appropriation Bill and the New Minimum Wage Bill will suffer further delay.

Speaking with one of our correspondents on the telephone on Saturday evening, the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Mr Abdulrazak Namdas, lamented that the postponement had more implications beyond the elections.

Namdas said one of the implications was that the National Assembly, which is billed to resume plenary on Tuesday to work on the national budget and the wage bill, among others, would be forced to extend its recess.

The House’s spokesman said, “For us in the National Assembly, we are really saddened by this event. We had supported INEC to the extent that we decided to postpone some of our recess and holidays just to approve the commission’s budget for this election. And we approved N189bn for INEC (in addition to the budgets of security agencies, totalling N242bn) so that the situation today could be averted.

That is why we feel that it is not fair, after the support, both from Nigerians, the National Assembly and the executive (arm of government), for INEC to cite logistics as a reason for the postponement. This is really unfair on the part of INEC.” Namdas added, “More importantly that we are having Budget 2019 before us, this postponement will have a multiplier effect. We are supposed to resume on Tuesday, but with this, I am not sure that this will be there; but that depends on what our leaders will tell us. “However, you can understand that nobody will leave their constituency to go (to Abuja) on Tuesday for sitting and come back on Friday for election. With the terrain of this country, some people, before they can access their areas, they require close to two days. This will be a very difficult scenario. “If it happens that the resumption is postponed, it means that the deliberation on the budget is also affected. But Nigerians will be fighting us; that we are delaying the budget, not knowing that these are some of the issues. I hope it will not occur and this will be a blessing in disguise.” When reminded that the wage bill was also pending, the lawmaker said, “Yes, it is there. So, you can imagine!”

Politics / I Haven’t Fled Nigeria —obasanjo by chinwe1960: 7:02pm On Feb 15, 2019
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday said he has not fled Nigeria , contrary to a social media report that he had travelled out of the county ahead of the presidential election scheduled for Saturday .

Obasanjo spoke with newsmen at his Presidential Library, Abeokuta , describing the Social media post as “ fake news. ”

The former president was reacting to a Facebook post of one Gbenga Lawal who posted : “ Breaking: Obasanjo jets out of Nigeria. He can’ t even wait for the thief he is imposing on Nigerians . ”

In his reaction , Obasanjo said “ Why should I travel out of the country before the election?

“ If not for anything , I believe I should be here to perform my civic responsibility , which is to vote according to the dictate of my heart tomorrow and on the second of March .

“ Those who are carrying that type of rumour or fake news ; I leave them in the hands of God ; I am used to that kind of thing .

“ In Yoruba land, if your head is hard , you don ’ t have to worry yourself .

“ Let anybody tell lies against you , let anybody issue fake news against you , let anybody abuse you , God will deal with them rightly and appropriately . ”

Politics / Re-electing The Best Man Fit For The Job A Case Of His Excellency Ugwuan by chinwe1960: 2:48pm On Feb 15, 2019
*RE-ELECTING THE BEST MAN FIT FOR THE JOB:* _A case of HIS Excellency Rt Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi_
BY
*Chief Barr. (Mrs) Joy Jideofor*

Across the states in Nigeria, patriotic and responsible citizens will be voting in both gubernatorial and presidential elections. Hopefully, they will be making an informed choice based on the performance rather than party line or fake promises influenced by campaign advertising.

In his words, Franklin Roosevelt said, *_”Democracy cannot succeed except those who express themselves are prepared to choose wisely, any real safeguard of democracy is therefore its education”_* the above quote necessitated my writing especially as the general election is just few hours ahead of us, the need to educate the electorates becomes necessary now so that they will make an informed choice to avoid regret.

Political science is an ancient discipline that traces its lineage to the teachings of Plato and Socrates, sage philosophers who attempted to construct a rational and ethical model for people to govern themselves. Their concept of a nation-state ruled by benevolent philosopher-kings who would represent the will of its citizens expressed through a vote became the cornerstone of western liberal democracies.

I believe the performance standard for every Governor or leader should be the security of the people, followed by human empowerment. My beloved people of Enugu state , critical study of the performance standard is important for consideration when deciding who to vote for. There is no doubt that Governor Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi has done remarkably well in the area of peace, infrastructures and security in Enugu state, no wonder so many organisations both at local and international scene are jostling to confer on him an award. Human capital development and infrastructure which is scattered across the state was made possible because there is a Humble Servant at the helm of the affairs. A detribalized and compassionate man with the fear of God deserve to be voted back to power to continue the good work. And if third term is possible in Nigeria , I would have given it to him. And am sure that a lot of people like me will say the same thing because we are really passionate about him and want him to do more for us.

The massive road construction by the government had reached all parts of the state while more of such projects are on-going. The governor`s achievements in less than three years are enormous. He has done very well in all sectors and we are not surprised that he received so many awards as even the best governor in the country and commendations across the world irrespective of the party line. As a result of these achievements, the people want him back. It is important to know that I personally would not hesitate to say the bitter truth if I think he has not done anything to deserve second tenure but having taken my time to follow his achievements so far , I think the best decision for the state will be to vote him to finish his good work for his people .

In Enugu state, the people are yearning for him to come back. Villages and towns in the state have been crying for projects and sense of belonging and the governor has met their expectation and needs, and I have no doubt in me that the governor will execute more projects if re-elected because of his passion to make the people happy. In his wisdom and sensitivity, His Excellency, Rt. Honorable Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi signed for the relocation of Enugu State College of Education Technical to Ihe-Awgu, to enhance human development and economic activities of the people of Awgu and its environs.

Apart from his experience in governance, which has united and positioned Enugu State for rapid social economic development, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi deserves a second term in office for equity and fairness after the two others senatorial zones in the state have gone for 8 years each. Because the God i know is a God of Continuity and as i will always say to myself and to my family, if something is good , keep it. Children of God , you have a good product in your hand and if I have a good product in my hand, I will not change it, I will keep it and here is not just a good product in our hand but a rare one.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi brought Peace in the state . Enugu state recorded absolute peace in the last three years of his tenure. No community or individual would like crisis which is alternative to peace . We want Enugu state to continue enjoying peace brought back to the state by Governor Ugwuanyi . It is also worthy to know that there is serious reduction in crime during his tenure and we want to continue to enjoy crime free society for at least another four years after May 29th when Governor Ugwuanyi will be returned to power .

To end this pieces, i am bold to state here that it can only be Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and no one else could have done it like him. I once again laud his commitment to principle; his grace, manners, humility, gratitude, and humor; and his “strong moral and cultural compass that brought him and Enugu state to where we are today. A vote for Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is a vote for development and human empowerment including the continued existing peace in Enugu state.
My beloved people of Enugu state , if we want to continue enjoying quality life here in the state, make a wise decisions come 2nd of March as our future lies in our hand and that is our vote . Please come out in mass and vote for Rt Hon Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi for Governor Enugu state .

BREAKING: ATTEMPT TO STOP ALL APC CANDIDATES IN ENUGU STATE FAILS.

The attempt to stop all the candidates of the All Progressive Congress, APC from fielding Candidates in Enugu State suffered a fatal blow as an Enugu High Court has thrown away the appeal.

The case filled by one Mr Kingsley Uduji (whom sources close to him said was sponsored by another party) was today dismissed by Justice K.I. Okpe of High Court 7 Enugu.

The plaintiff had prayed the court to cancel all the state congress by the party in the state for “violation of fundamental human rights.”

The counsel to the APC, Barr Ugo F. Ukwueze argued that the case has no locus and prayed the court to dismiss it.

In his ruling, justice Okpe ruled that;
1. The case was filed out of time
2. The matter was lacking in merit and
3. A waste of the time of the court.

Politics / Kano Police Command Say Arrested Ballot Papers ‘specimen’ Not Original by chinwe1960: 6:06pm On Feb 14, 2019
The Kano State Police Command on Thursday said that the 14 sacks of ballot papers it arrested are not original, but a specimen.

Reports went viral that 17 sacks of thumb-printed ballot papers with the All Progressives Congress, APC, box ticked were nabbed by the police in the state.

But, in a swift reaction on Thursday, the command, through its spokesman, Haruna Abdullahi, said the ballot papers impounded were not genuine but ‘specimen’ and were not thumb-printed as claimed by other reports.

Mr Abdullahi revealed that during interrogation, the command discovered that the ballot papers were Jigawa State bound to be used for voters’ enlightenment.

“Let me categorically state that the ballot papers are not thumb-printed and not real. They are just specimen to enlighten voters in Jigawa State,” he said

Politics / OPINION: Corrupt Nigerians Are Rooting For APC And PDP by chinwe1960: 11:39am On Feb 14, 2019
Editor’s note: Kabir Mustapha, native of Katsina state resident in Lagos, writes on the forthcoming 2019 presidential elections , with focus on three major candidates in the election that many has predicted as a two-horse race.

Read below:

There is a wise saying that goes thus, “only foolish people take the same action that has consistently failed them and expect positive outcome.”

Nigeria today is at a crossroad, no thanks to the incompetent and failed leadership of the political elites that have been taking turns among themselves to enslave Nigerians since 1999, I mean both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressive Congress (PDP).

These two parties and their candidates, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and President Muhammadu Buhari respectively, have been going about spending public funds to convince Nigerians to vote them in the February 16 presidential election even though they both have damaged antecedents and they naturally should be begging a judge to reduce their jail terms if it were in saner climes.

Atiku Abubakar was vice president for 8 years and was notorious for looting everything he came in contact with, including funds for Petroleum Development Trust Fund. His colleague in looting and American Congressman Jefferson was jailed on account of bribery he did with Atiku.

Atiku Abubakar shamelessly used money to pay his way during PDP primaries in an open show of shame just to outwit his opponents. This man is completely damaged and a far cry of what a sane society needs. The only credit he has to his name is endemic corruption.

The incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari is even worse than his colleague flying the PDP flag. He is a discredited bigot, ethic jingoist, clueless leader and one that has divided the country even further. This man has destroyed whatever is left of Nigeria and has elevated mediocrity. He has no single legacy project to his credit.

Sadly, the association of corrupt Nigerians are rooting for either of them. Thank God for Middle-Belt leaders that stood their ground and endorsed the candidacy of Mr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, the candidate of Peoples Trust, a proven entrepreneur, grassroots mobilizer and businessman.

A man with legitimate business to his name, among them are; Transnational Energy Nigeria Limited, where he serves as chairman, Transnational Energy Corporate United States, where be serves as president. Mr Olawepo-Hashim is also the president of Bresson Power, the promoters of Magboro Power Plant in Obafemi-Owode local government, Ogun state.

I urge Nigerian youths and other young people to say a big NO to failed experiments and embrace the true candidate that will not represent the interest of the corrupt class but those of the poor masses for a better Nigeria.
