These words of the sage best captured the leadership prowess displayed by the APC governorship candidate Enugu State, Senator Ayogu Eze, when he gathered all the waring factions in the party at Doom event centre, New Haven Enugu to forge a common front going into the general elections.

Having joined the party in August of 2018 and having secured the party’s gubernatorial ticket in reflection of his enduring acceptability across political divides and popularity in the state, he met a divided party confronted by issues arising from the state congress elections prior to his joining the party.

As a peace loving man, an astute communicationist, fine conciliator and a devoted christian, he has explored all peaceful means of resolving all contentious issues in the party judiciously.

These peace efforts by the Distinguished senator culminated in the gathering under the same roof at the Doom event centre on Saturday, the various party members and factional leaders to the disappointment and amazement of the other political party believed to be sponsoring and benefiting from the lingering crisis in Enugu State APC.

As the coordinator of President Muhammad Buhari campaign in Enugu State, Senator Ayogu Eze conveyed a well publicized meeting of the party faithful in the state to deliberate on the President’s visit and to find lasting peace within the party. Excited party members who attended the peace parley all agreed to work hard for the election of the PMB, the governorship candidate Sen Ayogu Eze and all APC candidates in the upcoming elections.

Speaking at the event, Senator Ayogu said the energy exhibited by all factions is clear testimony that APC is a great and very vibrant party in the state. He charged all members to work together henceforth as the energy if positively harnessed would spell doom for their opponents in the coming election.

The Enugu East Senatorial Candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Engineer Lawrence Ezeh escaped assassination on Friday 18th January, when hoodlums attacked his campaign train in Enugu, setting one of his branded Sienna buses on fire.

The incident took place at Iva Valley Primary school, Enugu.

According to an eye witness, a team of hoodlums trailed the campaign train of Prince Ezeh, probably with the intention to attack the group.

Speaking with journalists, a member of the campaign train said “We noticed that an unmarked bus was following us all the way from Coal Camp when we went to campaign. After a while, it disappeared. We didn’t know they followed us to Iva Valley, not until one of our Sienna buses went into flames”.

A resident of Valley Road 2, who spoke on the condition of anonymity said he saw the incident while walking home

He said “They came in a small bus. One of them stepped down from the car and threw something at the campaign Sienna while the bus drove slowly. Then he jumped into their bus as it caught flames and they drove off fast.

” I was the one who started shouting but it was dark and there was a lot of noise coming from the files where they were campaigning. Luckily, people ran up quickly and we used sand to quench the fire”, he added

Further speaking, he revealed that the men had been arguing on whether to attack the crowd gathered at the campaigns or not but gave up the idea when one warned that the crowd would over power them. “That was when they settled for burning the bus”.

The APC candidate rose to popularity in Enugu State for his philanthropy, which includes the repair of 3 government bridges, construction of a 4.5 kilometer asphalt road with ditches and street lights.

Ezeh has also placed over 50 kids on life scholarship in Nkanu East Local Government where he hails from.

Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) as a “mafia organisation”, vowing to privatise it if elected.

Speaking in Lagos during an interactive session with the business community on Wednesday, Atiku said he would take the step even if doing so would cost him his life.

He explained that he sold the idea to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo whom he deputised between 1999 and 2007 but that the former president did not approve of it.

Atiku said he is convinced that NNPC would run better if not managed by the government.



“Let me go back to my experience. When we got into office, I walked up to my boss and said “Sir, there are two mafia organisations in government: one is the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) while the other one is the National Electricity Power Authority (NEPA),” he said.

“I said unless we dismantle these mafia organisations, we cannot make progress. Let’s privatise them… the long and short of this is that I am committed to privitaisation as I have said. I swear even if they are going to kill me, I will do it (privatise NNPC).”

Atiku also spoke on how an expert in the petroleum sector influenced his stance on privatisation of NNPC.

“I asked a Nigerian professor based in America; I said ‘Prof, do you have ministry of petroleum in America?’ He said no,” he said.

“I said, ‘Do you have an organisation like NNPC over there?’ He said no. And America produces oil more than any country? He said yes.

“So I asked him, ‘How do they do it in America?’ and he said taxation and I decided that I will go by taxation too.”

Joined by Peter Obi, his running mate, Atiku fielded questions that ranged from the economy to security, health and unemployment.”

He also criticised the current administration for the delay in passing the petroleum industry governance bill (PIGB).

Atiku, who said the level of unemployment in the country is worrying, narrated his encounter with idle youth during his campaign rallies.

He said if left unchecked the lack of adequate jobs could create a bigger problem.

President Muhammadu Buhari, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is absent at the BIG presidential debate.

The debate, which is ongoing at Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, had representatives from all the other political parties invited, except the APC.

The debate, which focuses on “Corruption and Accountability” is hosted by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), and sponsored by MacArthur Foundation.

Present at the debate are the presidential candidates of African Action Congress, and Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party, Omoyele Sowore and Tope Fasua.

Kazeem Afegbua, a spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign and spokesperson to Ibrahim Babangida, former head of state, represented the party at the debate.

Paul Isamadi, national secretary of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), is currently representing Oby Ezekwesili, the ACPN presidential candidate.

Buhari, the incumbent, and has not attended any presidential debate since the election season kicked off for the February 16 elections.

Atiku Abubakar of the PDP has also been absent from all debates — but has delegated proxies to the debates.

Senator Ayogu Eze, The All Progressive Congress, APC, Guber candidate for Enugu State today visited Parklane General Hospital, Enugu to empathize with the party members that were involved in an accident yesterday.

The affected party members were returning from Owerri yesterday after attending the Women and Youths Zonal rally for President Buhari and Osinbanjo reelection held at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, Imo State before the ugly incident occurred at Awgu axis.

The APC governorship candidate who was at the Accident and Emergency department of the hospital to get a first hand information on the degree of injury sustained by the party members thanked God that no live was lost. He also offered cash gift to the state Chairman of the Party, Barr Ben Nwoye to aid in settling the hospital bills of the victims.

He enjoined them to have absolute faith in God, stay strong and be of high spirit as nothing will happen to them .

Senator Eze also thanked the health workers, Nurses and Doctors on duty for their efforts in attending to the victims promptly.

The State party Chairman, Barr Ben Nwoye thanked the party’s flagbearer for his magnanimity and show of love.
He said that his action today has once again shown that indeed, Enugu State will be in safe hands when he takes over Lion Building as his humility and selflessness is second to know.

The State Women Leader of the APC, Chief Mrs. Oby Nwofor who couldn’t hide her joy for what Senator Ayogu did for the women who are the victims of the accident said the action of Senator Ayogu Eze has lifted their spirit to continue working for the party as it is evident that they are dealing with a leader that will always stand with them in good times and most importantly, in difficult times as he has shown today.

Some of the relatives of the victims who couldn’t hide their joy thanked Senator Ayogu Eze for his concern as this has once more restored their faith in the party as a family of brothers and sisters that doesn’t discriminate no matter your status.

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was reunited with the Abdulaziz Yari, Governor of Zamfara State, on Friday, as the duo shook hands at an airport in Abuja.

Yari had threatened fire and brimstone when he told the members of National Working Committee (NWC) of the party who were sent to Zamfara State to conduct the primaries that he could not guarantee their safety.

In October, he had called on his supporters to protest against the primaries, stating that: “Our issue is with the national secretariat of APC where Adams Oshiomhole continues to be a dictator to party members; he acts as a mini-god”.

The event took place at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, as they prepared to embark on different journeys.

It was gathered that while Oshiomhole was waiting at the VIP lounge for his flight, the Governor heard that the National Chairman was around, and quickly rushed to meet him.

They were said to have had a brief chat, before parting ways. People in the vicinity of the airport were said to have been surprised by the development.

Senator Ayogu Eze, the APC candidate for Enugu State gubernatorial election was today given the highest honour in Amuri, Nkanu West LGA by the paramount ruler of Amuri Kingdom, HRM, Igwe Charles E. Nwoye, The OBIOHA II of Amuri Kingdom.

Upon his Arrival, Senator Ayogu Eze visited the ancestorial seat of power of the community before proceeding to the palace.

Senator Ayogu Eze who was in the palace of Igwe Charles for a familiarization visit was taken unawares by the Igwe and his cabinet when they brought out the paraphernalia for Chieftancy conferment on the APC governorship candidate.

Surprised Senator Eze was conferred with a Chieftancy title; “High Chief Odum N’egbu Agu” meaning the Lion that kills the Tiger. The title according to the traditional ruler automatically makes him member of Igwe’s cabinet.

Conferring the title, Igwe Charles said the unplanned Chieftancy coronation is befitting of the character of Senator Ayogu Eze as a fearless, honest and transparent leader and a man worthy to be the governor of Enugu State.

“I didn’t plan today’s event with anyone and never informed anybody as I wanted it to be a surprise to all.

“In our land, Chieftancy title of this magnitude is earned and can never be bought nor paid for by anyone.

“We are convinced that Senator Ayogu Eze is eminently qualified for the title and he has the blessing and support of our community in the coming election” Igwe Charles said.

Igwe Charles Nwoye went a step further to offer a piece of land to Senator Eze to build a house as a bona-fide son of the community.

Shehu Sani, senator representing Kaduna central, has asked Nasir el-Rufai, governor of the state, to caution his wife over her comments on his hair.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, the senator said Hadiza el-Rufai, the governor’s wife, always talks about his hair whenever she is out campaigning.

Hadiza, who is a published author, has been actively involved in the re-election campaign of her husband ahead of the March governorship election.

“I appeal to Mr Governor to caution his wife to stop talking about my hair everywhere she goes on campaigns. Everywhere she goes its all about my hair. Its not my fault if her man is not blessed with hair. I consider it as hate speech. I will report her to Dr Gummi or Council of Imams if she doesn’t stop. Haba Jammaa,” the post read.

The Buhari Media Organisation says the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has hired an American lobbyist for $90,000 monthly to be releasing fake news capable of threatening national security.

It alleged that the slew of fake news, especially on social media, targeted at the Nigerian military was the handiwork of Atiku and his media organisation.

The group stated that recent untrue claims of terrorists’ attacks on the military, desertion by police personnel, allegations of corruption scandals in the military hierarchy and the resurfacing of a 2014 claim by soldiers of lack of weaponry were sponsored fake news by the former vice president.

In a statement signed by Chairman, Niyi Akinsiju and the Secretary, Cassidy Madueke, BMO stated that the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation resorted to sponsoring fake news when it had no campaign issues to bring forward.

The statement said, “Atiku Abubakar’s desperation knows no bounds; his recent move to sponsor narrative through fake news that paint Nigeria’s security personnel as weak and incapable of carrying out their duties is an example of the PDP candidate’s
desperation and lack of patriotism.
The group stated that a recent report by an American firm making unbacked claims that the recently slain former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Vice Marshal Alex Badeh, was killed to hide corruption under the current Defence leadership was fake news and the handiwork of Mr Brian Ballard, the United States lobbyist Atiku procured at $90,000 a month.

“It is shameful that a former vice president of Nigeria would procure the service of an American lobby firm to sponsor fake news aimed at attacking the morale and credibility of Nigeria’s armed forces.

“In addition to this is the hiring of foreign trolls to man their online handles in a way that is against national interest. The aim is to destroy national institutions, including the INEC and cause confusion after realising that they had lost the contest even before the votes are cast.

“This goes to emphasise the fact that Mr Abubakar does not have Nigeria’s interest at heart and must be kept far away from the seat of power. The PDP has nothing to sell to Nigerians. It has a candidate who is notorious for corruption allegations and is distrusted across the globe; aside being the candidate of a party responsible for the pillage of Nigeria’s treasury.”

BMO also accused the PDP presidential candidate’s media handlers of lying when they claimed that President Buhari had a record of trafficking illicit funds.
It is a blatant lie that Atiku Abubakar, as head of Customs at the Lagos airport in 1984 stopped the ADC of the then Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, from smuggling in 53 suitcases of looted money.

“This is a matter that was settled back then. The suitcases were the personal belongings of the then Nigerian ambassador to Libya who was returning to the country after his tour of duty with his three wives and sixteen children.

“The late ambassador was coming into the country at the same time as the Emir of Gwandu whose son was General Buhari’s ADC and his suitcases were falsely presented to the public as those of the Emir.

“So from all indications, the suitcases which were cleared through Customs by soldiers had nothing to do with Buhari and there was nothing to suggest that illicit funds were being brought into the country.”

Chief Chriscent Nganga (Agunecheibe 1 of Egede) who stated that he has never been partisan in his life, remarked that he has changed his mind with entrance of Sen. Ayogu Eze and Mrs. Juliet Ibekaku into his compound and assured that Egede land will vote massively for the APC.

Lending credence to this, Paul Agubuzo promised to go any length humanly possible in bringing victory for the party during the general pools.

Responding, Sen. Eze thanked the elders for the trust reposed on him and promised that with the “ofo”, dividends of democracy will get to the people of Egede and all parts of Enugu State.

He further assured that the fallow lands in Egede just like in other parts of the state shall be put to judicious use as there are practical plans to kick off agricultural revolution in the state.

Addressing the crowd of APC supporters who stormed the house of the “Isi Ani” Senator Ayogu Eze assured that Egede would be the first place to visit when he must have been sworn in as the governor, as a further demonstration of his gratitude for what they did today and also to cement this friendship with the people of Egede.

He admonished the people to come out enmass and vote all APC candidates starting from President Muhammad Buhari, the National Assembly Candidates including Mrs. Juliet Ibekaku on February 16th and March 2nd for the Governorship down to all the state house of assembly candidates of the party.

The unscheduled visit attracted hundreds of APC loyalists.

The Enugu State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Ben Nwoye has challenged one of the leaders of the party in the state, Sen. Ken Nnamani to clarify a statement he made while commissioning a four-room building with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Dr. Nwoye asked Sen. Nnamani to explain why he could not campaign openly for his party’s governorship candidate but was telling the PDP governorship candidate that “a good product markets itself” and promised that when the time comes he will say where his “people belong”.

“This is very misleading. Could it be that Sen. Nnamani is so ashamed of his political party that he could not canvass openly for the party?”, Dr. Nwoye wondered.

The party chairman said the APC in Enugu State had observed Sen. Nnamani’s double standard for far too long, adding that the party can no longer fold its arms and watch him de-market the APC in Enugu State.

“We deplore this attitude of being APC in Abuja and PDP in Enugu State “, the Chairman said, asking: “How can the Vice Chairman South APC Presidential Campaign Council feel more comfortable in the midst of candidates of the PDP than amongst APC candidates almost on the even of an election?”

Dr. Nwoye said that Sen. Nnamani was surrounded at that event by candidates of the opposition PDP for various offices, and wondered what signal he was sending to APC teaming supporters in Enugu State.

“This is a man who has just been unveiled as the Vice Chairman of the APC Presidential Campaign Council romancing and hobnobbing with the opposition party and making insinuations that his people would vote for the opposition “, the party chieftain noted, adding: “It is these same people that go to Abuja to mislead the authorities that the PDP governor in Enugu State is working for Buhari. Nothing can be farther from the truth. How can the PDP Governor work for Buhari when he is still busy campaigning for PDP Presidential and National Assembly candidates?”

He said that APC is very strong in Enugu state and the South East zone and urged the authorities in Abuja to ignore the self-serving misinformation being propagated by PDP apologists like Sen. Nnamani who market the story that the APC needs some help from PDP in the South East in order to reelect Buhari.

“How can people who are so scared of their impending loss of election be the same people being touted to help the APC? We want to say it loud and clear that the APC will sweep the polls in Enugu State. We don’t need anybody to help us. Buhari will score over 90% of the votes that will be cast in the South East”, he said.

He warned Sen. Nnamani that the party will not hesitate to commence disciplinary action against him should he persist in his anti-party utterances and activities, urging him to retrace his steps forthwith.

“Sen. Nnamani has a choice to make: to remain in the APC or to return to the PDP where it seems he feels more comfortable. He can’t belong to both parties at the same time”, Dr. Nwoye noted.

A group based in Enugu, the Enugu Development Forum (EDF), has condemned former Senate President Ken Nnamani for what it termed his “double standard” over his claims of membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the national level, while working for the People’s Democratic Party at the grassroots level.

The group was reacting to reports that emerged in the media on the former number three citizen in Nigeria attending a function with the governor of the state where he made certain statements that appeared to show support for the second term ambition of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Speaking to journalists during a press conference in Enugu, President of the group Emeka Ezema stated that “The true character of former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, has always been known to those of us who are conversant with his rise.

While claiming to be a member of the APC and attending party functions with the President and other senior members of the party at federal level he dines and wines with the PDP at the state level with the ease of changing pieces of clothing.”

Ezema wondered why Senator Nnamani chose “the opportune time when an attempt to buy the votes of Enugu people was in full swing, to call the governor, who has been rejected by the people of Enugu due to his neglect of the people in the last three years of his administration, ‘a good product’?”.

He however said that it came as no surprise to close observers of affairs in the state, as “those in touch with the grassroots have always known his duplicitous nature, so his attending a public function with PDP National Assembly candidates surrounding him and fawning over him like love birds, was just a confirmation of his undying love for PDP to the whole world”.

The group accused Nnamani of “serially engaging in anti party activities, working against the momentum President Muhammadu Buhari who is gaining momentum in the South East and Enugu in particular, even to the point of sponsoring the current executive chairman of his local government in addition to members of Governor Ugwuanyi’s cabinet nominated by him”.

Questioning the governor’s motive he argued that “It is indeed a shame that the governor chose a few months to elections to pledge to release N10million, for ‘community development projects’ without the input of communities as funds were released to so called leaders of the communities. It is even more curious that only N5million was released to Nnamani’s community and he started singing like a bird and declaring that ‘when the time comes, I will say where our people belong’.”

“Seeing that the APC’s stock is on the rise, Governor Ugwuanyi has become ever more desperate hence the last minute quest to buy over the people of Enugu and the deployment of his not-so-secret weapon in Nnamani, who had been on his payroll all along. It is an open secret that Nnamani is a closet PDP member who has been on the payroll of the sitting governor, working overtime against President Buhari for his friends in the PDP”.

He concluded by saying that “the days of the corrupt PDP in Enugu are long gone as the people have taken a stance for integrity and progress the APC espouses as seen in the unprecedented mass numbers that trooped out to receive President Buhari on his recent visit to the state.

Nnamani’s antics notwithstanding the ride of Senator Ayogu Eze of the APC to government house is a sure one as his candidature is based on pure grassroots support of the people of Enugu who have had enough of the directionless 19 year rule of the PDP.”

The Mortuary section of Enugwu-Ukwu general hospital has been gutted by fire and all the corpses burnt beyond recognition.
It was said that the fire started at about three o’clock this afternoon and before they could get the fire service, the three -room-morgue had been raised down.
The mortician on duty couldn’t stop the fire as he was the only person on duty and they couldn’t ascertain the cause of the fire though according to the eye witneses, the fire may have come from bush burning as the surrounding is over grown with dry grasses

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has expressed deep condolence to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over the death of it’s members that died in an auto-crash in Benue state recently

The PDP died in an accident on the Otukpo-Agatu Rd in Benue State while travelling for the campaign flag off of a Senate candidate on Friday.

In a statement by the APC on Friday, it expressed its condolence to the families of victims, while urging all and sundry to be safety cautious, during this period of electioneering campaigns.

We condole with the PDP over the death of some of its members who died in an accident on the Otukpo-Agatu Rd in Benue State while travelling for the campaign flagoff Senate candidate on Friday.

The APC is anguished and deeply saddened by the tragic accident. While we share the pains of the bereaved families, we also pray that those injured in the accident make a speedy and full recovery.

As we mourn, the Party prays that the Almighty God give the bereaved families and other loved ones the strength to withstand the tragic loss and also grant the dead eternal rest.

Political activities have expectedly heightened in the leadup to the #2019Elections. The APC urges all to ensure safety as we go about our respective campaign activities.

The Nigeria market is awash with numerous troubles and because work is instrumental to livelihood, people go out to work under worst human condition.
What do say of a graduate, practicing journalism with state owned institution receiving N15, 000 per month and that is less than 42 dollars per month.

Casualisation contravenes Section 7 (1) of the Labour Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. The Act provides that, “Not later than three months after the beginning of a worker’s period of employment with an employer, the employer shall give to the worker a written statement specifying the terms and conditions of employment, which include the nature of the employment and if the contract is for a fixed term, the date when the contract expires.”

Casual staffing is also at variance with provisions of section 17 (a) of the Constitution, which guarantees “equal pay for equal work”. The section frowns at discrimination on account of sex or any other ground whatsoever and so the discrimination in pay between permanent and casual employees should not exist.

While the labour unions obviously lack the powers and authority to stamp out casualisation, they often times rely on various conventions and regulations of international organisations such as the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to carry out picketing of premises of firms that engage in the practice.

A report published by the campaign for democratic workers’ rights, showed that 45 per cent of the workforce in Nigeria operates as casual workers while 50 per cent of the burden of casualisation exists in the downstream oil and gas sub sectors of the economy, telecommunication, banking, construction, mining and some other work places.

According to experts, the development is assuming a worrisome dimension because of the saturated labour market and quest to maximize profits by multinationals and other corporate entities worst still when state government indulge in this shameful and inhuman practices. To save for who and for what?

Speaking at a rally to mark the 2018 May Day in Abuja, the President of NLC, Ayuba Wabba, who spoke on outsourcing and casualisation of labour, said Nigerian workers can no longer offer their labour to slave drivers whose only interest is profit maximization and capital mobility.

He Sounded a note of warning to employers thus: “Our laws allow all workers to exercise their freedom of association to belong to unions of their choice in line with the provision of ILO convention 87 and section 40 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Now tell me why an elected government of Enugu can also connive to treat and enslave her own people in this way.

The pathetic story of casual workers at ESBS is terrible and one that should have triggered revolt from the workers but as me and you know, the poor is poor because s/he is poor and that is why they are treated the way the are treated. Who will speak for them?

The above assertion is not new in Nigeria job market but when a government elected by the people to use their resources to better their lives of the people continue to act in a such a wicked and insensitive manner, it calls for serious attention and revolt.

The majority of this casual workers at ESBS who have not received penny for months are made up of youth. The future leaders as the the elite said, still their future on daily bases is being sabotaged and lives threatened including the security of others because a hungry man they say is an angry man.

*The graduates they employed are receiving 15k per month for years now, at a time the management of ESBS connived wit DEC Microfinance bank Enugu to start cutting 1k per month on all the casual workers/guests artists in favor of this wicked merchants whose hearts as dark as charcoal. Who will protect the poor?*

The so called House Committee on information, very selfish and political merchants claimed ‘Honorable’ who is like pencil in the hand of the executive also been bought, because they gets their own share from the deduction of even the little allowance given to these poor youth. God help African youth especially the helpless fellows.

As we take over administration of Enugu state come 2019, there is will be nothing like CASUAL WORKERS in any government establishment. We have stated it before, the youth and the poor, i mean the poorest of the poor form the reason why we are coming into politics. Is a youth revolution. And As the governor of Enugu state, we will be moving hundreds of thousands of people from abject poverty in two years.

No more shall we step aside fold our arms and watch the destinies and lives of our great fellows go down the drain. And if the administration fail to look into the plight of these helpless fellows at ESBS, then watch out the mass protest from youth across the state, we will shut down ESBS till this people are well care for. They are human being with responsibilities.

*Say no to casualization of workers, say no to youth enslavement.*

Together as Youth we can build a new world in Africa soil.

A campaign car belonging to the All Progressive Congress (APC) House of Assembly candidate running for Nkanu East State Constituency in Enugu State was set ablaze yesterday by hoodlums in the city of Enugu

The candidate, Honourable Benjamin Nvute who spoke with newsmen in Enugu said the car which is a fully branded APC campaign car bore advertorial of President Muhammadu Buhari, Senator Ayogu Eze, Prince Lawrence Ezeh and himself and had been a major campaign vehicle in Nkanu East LGA of the state before the incident.

Nvute narrated how he had left the said car at a mechanic workshop around New Heaven Junction, with official documents and campaign materials inside, only for him to come to the place to discover that everything had been burnt to ashes.

“I bought my campaign vehicle for repair over the weekend and called the mechanic on 27/12/2018 at about 7am to find when he will be at the workshop only to be told that he was called at night that my campaign vehicle is on fire and all effort by fire service proved abortive. In the same workshop, a Lexus 350 with gearbox problem, no two front tyres but on support was packed with other vehicles yet the Buhari support car was singled out and set ablaze”.

The incident is one of many in Enugu, where campaign billboards of APC candidates have been torn severally by unknown people. Political commentators are worried about the development, which might make the usually peaceful city of Enugu into a volatile one as campaigns unfold in the state.

Resident Electoral Commission REC of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Oyo state Barrister Mutiu Agboke on Thursday disclosed that politicians are approaching the commission for the sales of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs), in order to rig the 2019 general elections in the state.

Barrister Mutiu Agboke while delivering his keynote address at a one-day seminar organised by Association of Online Media Practitioners in the state said 914,529 out of Over 2.9m Voter’s cards are yet to be collected.

The REC who did not reveal the identity of the political party and those who have approached the commission for the sales of PVCs said ” They are looking for what is not available because they know that these things are not available. This is the security report at my disposal.

“Tell those who are looking for PVCs to buy that there is none to buy in Oyo state. I can assure you that no INEC staff will sell PVCs to any politician. I can assure you that the process will be free in Oyo state.”

While assuring residents of the state of smooth elections devoid of crisis in 2019, Agboke added that no staff of the commission will sell PVCs to any politicians ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Agboke however urged journalists in the state to cooperate with the commission in spreading accurate information to members of the public.

“All of us are stakeholders, let us all work to enhance credible election in the state. As online journalists, let us ensure that we have our facts correct for me in Oyo state I have nothing to hide, we conducts the election in Eruwa and the people that won, and in 2019 too whoever wins election will be declared .”

He also advised media practitioners to abide by the ethics of the profession for a better society.

The South West Bureau Chief of The Nation and an Associate Editor of Nigerian Tribune newspapers, Mr. Bisi Oladele and Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre respectively in thier papers tasked journalists to be ensure credibility in their practice ans always abide by the rules and regulations guiding the profession in their day to day reportage.

The duo who said that online journalism has come to stay in Nigeria said that journalists must distinguish themselves from ordinary writers considering the fact that almost everybody is a journalist with the advent of internet and smart phones.

They agreed that one of the ways for the journalists to differentiate themselves from ordinary writers is for them to cross check their facts, investigate their stories and be conscious of the exiting laws in the land.

Oladele, an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife and Ojo- Lanre, a former Chief Press Secretary to former Governor of Ekiti State, Engineer Segun Oni added that journalists have right to seek and request for information from organisations and individuals under the Freedom of Information Act.

Comrade Wumi Faniran, Chairman Nigerian Union of Journalist, Oyo state council in his welcome remark said journalists operating online should be conscious of the need to promote media integrity and operate in accordance to ethics of the profession.

In his Welcome address, Remi Oladoye , state chairman , Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria in Oyo state said the program was organized to further educate the online media practitioners on the need the need to discharge their duties responsibly and effectively.

The command’s spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu, said that the 34-year-old woman allegedly hacked her mother to death last Sunday, following a dispute.

Mr Amaraizu said that the incident took place in Ifitte village in Mmaku community of Awgu Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, police operatives are yet to establish issue or issues leading to the unfortunate incident.

“It was gathered that the alleged tragic incident occurred on that fateful day when the daughter of the deceased, identified as Martina Anukwu, about 34 years, inflicted several matchette cut injuries all over the body of the mother, identified as Scholistica Anukwu, about 58 years.

He noted that the sad incident had thrown the entire quiet Mmaku community into mourning mood.
