Crime / Calculated: Total Amounts Of Money Onnoghen Will Forfeit In 5 Bank Accounts by chinwe1960: 3:58am On Apr 26, 2019
StateReporter News

The suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen, was finally on Thursday, April 18, convicted of false and non-declaration of assets.

The embattled ex-CJN had been arraigned by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), following a petition brought against him by a group, the Anti-Corruption and Research Based Data Initiative.

Onnoghen was charged on six counts, for allegedly failing to declare some of his accounts in the asset declaration form submitted to the CCB in December, 2016.

According to the charge, Onnoghen also failed to declare his assets after the expiration of his declaration form filled in 2005. But Onnoghen, who had noted that he forgot to update the form, told the tribunal that he was not guilty of the charges brought against him.

During the proceedings, the defence, in their final arguments, maintained that the prosecution failed to prove the six counts beyond reasonable doubt as required by law and urged the tribunal to dismiss the case.

It added that the charges against Onnoghen were incompetent and unconstitutional as they were based on the provisions of the Code of Conduct Tribunal and Bureau Act which were in conflict with the relevant provisions of the Constitution.

However, Danladi Umar, CCT chairman, found him guilty of the six counts preferred against him by the federal government.

Umar held that the federal government had proved beyond reasonable doubt that Onnoghen breached the code of conduct for public officers.

“The defendant has clearly contravened the code for public officers,” he said.

“The prosecution has discharged the onus placed on it and it has proved its case beyond doubt.

The defence has failed to prove that the chairman is biased.” Thus, he ruled that Onnoghen be removed as CJN and chairman of the NJC and banned from holding public office for 10 years.

The tribunal further ruled that “all monies in the five accounts which were not declared by the defendant be confiscated, seized and forfeited to the federal government as they were all acquired illegally by the defendant.”

He said the defence could not prove how Onnoghen legitimately owned the funds found in the five accounts.

Politics / Yahaya Bello: The Travails Of A Wasted Political Patronage by chinwe1960: 3:11am On Apr 26, 2019
StateReporter News

Home Opinion Yahaya Bello: The travails of a wasted political patronage

It is no longer news that Nigeria’s youngest governor today, the governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, is floating in the murkiest political waters of his career or dancing a dance that a superstitious African man will unashamedly refer to as ‘SURUGEDE’.
The election in his state is scheduled for November and Mr Bello is engaged in an unforeseen political tussle from right within his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). Many of the influential decision-makers in the party including its national leader, Asiwaju Tinubu are said to have vowed that Bello, the ‘unelected’ governor of Kogi will never be handed the ticket of the ruling party for what they described as a woeful performance.
It was in Chinua Achebe’s world record book (THINGS FALL APART) that an elder warned Okonkwo who was becoming too boisterous and disrespectful that “if a benevolent spirit cracks a palm-kernel for anybody, he or she should not forget to be humble”. Bello must have been loathsome of books not to come across this most celebrated book. He would have behaved differently.

The above is the very case that is about bringing a supposedly thriving political career to a shameful and abrupt end. Bello forgot his roots. He never looked back to his humble beginning. He forgot one very important fact, that he inherited the mandate of an enigma, a leader par excellence who the people adore and dread like a god. Hee ignored the glaring unconstitutionality in his emergence. He also forgot that his party would demand prudence and quality governance from him just like the people would do.
He forgot that workers need salaries too. How do they cope with 22 months of unpaid salary? He skipped that the youths, buoyed by the emergence of a 42-year-old as governor would demand excellent performance to prove their abilities and further challenge non-inclusion in Nigeria’s mainstream politics. He forgot that to whom much is given much is expected of.
My elders would have reminded him now that he whom the gods want to kill they first make mad if he were from my ancestral home. Bello in a clear case of a recalcitrant animal being led to the slaughter became a law unto himself. He ruled Kogi with the kind of tyrannic fists that Pinochet would be scared today to wield against the soviet union. He singlehandedly banned the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU).
As if that was not enough, he went on to build a mansion that stands tall in the midst of very lowly houses belonging to his poverty-stricken Okene kinsmen. His spending spree and extravagance can only draw us back to the very gory and ignoble days of Jean Bodden Bokassa who spent hundreds of millions of dollars in a ceremony to install himself as the life president of the Central African Republic (CAR) in the 1970-80s. He even in a despotic move to control all lives and tiers of government moved against the Judiciary. He forgot he is from a minority tribe and that only good governance and extraordinary performance would endear him to the people. Now that money and thuggery have become far-fetched, what next?
The tears Bello shed on national television during his inauguration and his recent behaviour are in conspicuous contrast and it goes a long way to tell the stories and personalities of Nigerian politicians. He is a locus classic of their lies, deception and irresponsibility.
He built people’s hopes for a letdown and brought Kogi state to a pariah region. We thank APC for not reinforcing failure. Like the story of Olawele’s God’s are not to blame, he brought this Waterloo upon himself by wasting the unsual political patronage he got on a platter of gold.

Politics / Speakership: Nkeiruka Onyejeocha Asks Gbajabiamila To Step Down For Her by chinwe1960: 3:47am On Apr 24, 2019
Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, a member of the house of representatives, has urged Femi Gbajabiamila, majority leader of the house, to step down for her in the race for speakership.

The Abia lawmaker appealed to Gbajabiamila to “make due sacrifice” by giving up on his ambition to become speaker “for Nigeria to move forward.”

Onyejeocha and Gbajabiamila are both of the All Progressives Congress (APC) which is expected to produce the next crop of national assembly leaders having emerged the majority party in the two chambers.

Gbajabiamila has, however, been endorsed by the leadership of the party.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Onyejeocha urged the party to have a rethink and zone the speakership to the south-east.

The fourth-term lawmaker said while she respects the party’s decision, Gbajabiamila should “as a leader pay the sacrifice” for Nigeria to get to the next level.

“I respect my party chairman and what the party has said it intends to do but I am appealing to them, it is not yet late to withdraw their decision and include a woman from the two geo-political zones left out in 2015,” she said.

Politics / Saraki Fires Back At Tinubu Over Budget Padding Allegation by chinwe1960: 9:56pm On Apr 22, 2019
Senate President Bukola Saraki has challenged the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, to substantiate his allegation that he and other lawmakers have the habit of padding budgets.
Mr Saraki, in a statement by his media aide, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said Mr Tinubu’s attack was unfounded and not predicated on facts.

The Senate President was reacting to a statement credited to Mr Tinubu, where he alleged that Mr Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, have been padding Nigeria’s budget since 2015.

“Just look at the way Saraki, Dogara and their ilk hijacked the budget process these past four years,” Mr Tinubu had said in a statement released by Tunde Rahman, his spokesman.

“National budgets were delayed and distorted as these actors repeatedly sought to pad budgets with pet projects that would profit them. Even worse, they cut funds intended to prosper projects that would have benefitted the average person. After four years of their antics halting the progress of government, we should do all we can to prevent a repeat of their malign control of the National Assembly,” Mr Tinubu was quoted as saying in a statement by his spokesperson.

Mr Saraki said the APC leader is ignorant of the legislative process that leads to budget passage. He also released a statement, part of which is reproduced below.

“First, he (Tinubu) alleged that national budgets were delayed, distorted, padded, new projects introduced, funds for projects reduced, “to halt the progress of government”. It is unfortunate that a man like Tinubu who had been in the Senate (though for 22 months and under a military regime) should have a better understanding of how the legislature works.

Sack of 12 council Chairmen: Wike exposes INEC as his corruption tool – Eze

…Rewards Abe for his loyalty and inputs

….Targets Commissioners that failed to win their Areas

In what might be a post-elections reappraisal of his dismay and awful performance in the last governorship and House of Assembly elections in Rivers state, Governor Nyesom Wike has sacked 12 council Chairmen and 15 party council Chairmen, in whose domains the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had woefully performed.

Indications also emerged on Friday that the governor, who was said to be apparently angry with the failure of his men to stop the All Progressives Congress (APC) backed Biokpomabo Awara of the African Action Congress (AAC) from making any major impact, is also expected to sack at least 14 of the members of his Executive Council soon.

Governor Wike and the PDP concurrently announced both the sack and suspension of the council chairmen and party chairmen respectively on Thursday, giving various reasons, Governor Wike’s own being that the axed council chairmen failed to attend state function.

The executive chairmen of local government councils reportedly ‘suspended’ by Governor Wike were those of Okrika, Emohua, Abua/Odual, Degema, Khana, Gokana, Ahoada East, Ikwerre, Eleme, Andoni, Omuma, and Ogu/Bolo.

@ StateReporter News

Mr. Peter Obi, the vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the recent election, has called on good-spirited Nigerians to support the church for meaningful development, saying his partnership with the church accounted partly to his success in office.

Obi spoke on Wednesday after participating at the Chrism Mass, a Catholic Church Holy week programme, at Awka, Adazi-Nnukwu and Nimo, Anambra State.

Noting that Chrism Mass is a time the church set aside for the blessing of different oils used in her apostolate and a time the faithful also show support to their bishops for the various work he is doing in the diocese and his numerous charities, Obi called on the people of God not to despair.

He said his partnership with the church, especially in the area of education and health, was part of the key to his success when he was the governor and advised those in government to partner with the church because they also serve the people, even with more commitment.

@ StateReporter News

Former Senate Minority leader, Godswill Obot Akpabio has denied allegations that he called the All Progressives Congress (APC) evil and was considering returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a press release on Thursday night, signed by his Special Assistant on media, Anietie Ekong, Senator Akpabio disclosed that he had no regret whatsoever for the decision he took as a nationalist to join the APC.

He maintained that he was rigged out of the race for re-election as Senator but will reclaim his mandate at the tribunal.

The statement reads: “The attention of the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, His Excellency, Senator Godswill Akpabio, CON has been drawn to a malevolent quote dripping with malice and falsehood attributed to him in the social media thus: ‘I was a Commissioner for eight years and Governor for eight years under PDP, but now I have only spent three months and I am finished politically, what type of evil party is this?’

“We wish to state without fear of contradiction that this is the concoction by whoever authored it. The assertion is factually inaccurate.

“Chief Godswill Akpabio never served as a Commissioner for eight years so he could never have so claimed nor could he have described his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) as ‘evil party.’

Mr Abdullahi Sule, Nasarawa state Governor-elect on Friday, pledged to implement the new minimum wage, after sworn in as the governor.

He made the pledge in a statement signed by his media aide, Alhaji Sanusi Aliyu in Lafia on Friday.

The governor-elect applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the New Minimum National Wage Bill into Law.

Buhari on Thursday signed the bill into law.

Sen. Ita Enang, Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to him, the signing of the new national minimum wage bill into law will usher in a ‘new dawn’ for workers.

The presidential aide also said that the signing into law of the new national minimum wage bill showed that the president was willing to take every necessary step to motivate the workers toward greater productivity and improve their welfare.

Sule also said that the action of the president was a testament to the fact that, “Our patriotic and beloved President prioritises the welfare of Nigerian workers.

“That he is always ready to ensure the right conditions are in place for them.

Ugwuanyi holds town hall meeting on adequate water supply

…Reiterates commitment to lasting solutions to challenges

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and Governor-elect, on Thursday held a town hall meeting with relevant stakeholders aimed at finding lasting solutions to the problems hindering the regular supply of water to the homes and establishments in the state.

The “all important” meeting, which was summoned at the instance of the governor, in keeping with his administration’s renewed vigor to enhance the wellbeing of the people of the state through the sustenance of peace and good governance, extracted firm commitment from the players in the industry on better ways to improve adequate water supply in the state.

Addressing the participants at the meeting, held at Ajali Water Scheme, Ezeagu Local Government Area, Gov. Ugwuanyi stated that “the water sector in the state has over the years encountered and is still being hampered by a number of factors especially, the fragile conditions of some of the existing water projects and installations as well as daunting environmental and human factors”, in spite of several attempts his administration has made to revamp the sector.

He added that his administration recently invested in the upgrade of existing infrastructure for enhanced water production and distribution across the state, stressing that the state government was desirous of finding immediate stop-gap solutions to the challenges the sector is facing currently for residents to enjoy adequate and satisfactory water supply.

Gov. Ugwuanyi disclosed that the stop-gap solutions will provide water service to the state until the fifty million US Dollars loan the state government signed up with French Development Agency (AFD) for 3rd National Urban Water Sector Reform Project for total transformation of the state’s water infrastructure is accessed.

The governor, who further disclosed that his administration is currently on the threshold of the first draw-down of the loan for an end-to-end transformation of the water infrastructure to begin, pointed out that the project which has “a long gestation period” will involve water production, transmission, distribution, metering, revenue collection and revenue recycling.

“We have, therefore, thought it wise to invite all of you – as major stakeholders in the water sector – to brainstorm and deliberate on how we can start the journey towards confronting the challenges in the sector successfully and meet the ever-growing water needs of Ndi Enugu while waiting for the benefits of the AFD-funded Urban Water Sector Reform Project to come on stream”, the governor explained.

In their contributions, the participants, including experienced water engineers, contractors, and staff and management of Enugu State Water Corporation, identified insufficient power supply as one of the major challenges hindering production and adequate distribution of water to residents and offered valued advice on how to address the problems.

On their part, the management of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), while describing Gov. Ugwuanyi as one of their valued customers, promised to improve power supply to both Ajali and Oji River Water Schemes and also give technical support to the Corporation for the people of Enugu State to enjoy adequate water supply.

The Court in a judgement delivered by Justice Akintola Aluko held that Ogbuoji by defecting from the PDP, under whose platform he was elected to another party, flouted section 68(1)g of the 1999 constitution.
The Court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to withdraw the certificate of return issued to the Senator immediately and to conduct a fresh election immediately to fill the seat.
Furthermore, the court also ordered the lawmaker to refund all monies be it salaries, allowances or any order form of payment he may have received as benefits from the position of Senator from the date of his defection to the coffers of government.
The said section 68(1)g says that “a member of Senate or House of Representatives shall vacate his seat in the House if being a person whose election to the house was sponsored by another political party, he becomes a member of another political party before the expiration of the period for which that house was elected. Politics / I’m Tired Of Being Governor -wike by chinwe1960: 2:01am On Apr 17, 2019
@ StateReporter News
Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, says if the constitution allows for a third term, he would not contest because he is tired.

Wike spoke on Tuesday when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) issued him his certificate of return.

Commenting on the March 9 gubernatorial election in the state, Wike said the military prevented the electoral body from performing its duties.

He, however, commended INEC and the police for “standing their ground” and refusing to be intimidated.

He called for peace and cooperation in the state, asking all aggrieved parties to bury the past and forge ahead.

“Nobody can be more than the state, so, for me, I want total peace in Rivers state. All of us should come back, wherever you are, whether in the federal or local government, come and work for the interest of the state,” Wike said.

“I’ll not be governor forever. I only have for more years. After the four years, I’ve gone. The constitution does not allow for third term. Even if it does, bye bye, I’m tired. I’ll not.

I used to tell my wife every day whenever I wake up, I say thank God, you never can tell the next day, what will happen. And any day I have opportunity like this, I’ll speak my mind. I am not afraid, nobody has monopoly to take my life. I will die the day God says I will die.

“Elections have come and gone. We have no other state other than Rivers state. I owe this state a lot, if I die today, I’ll not be buried in Lagos neither will I be buried in Abuja. My house is in Rivers. I am [sic] unrepentable Rivers man. I stood on the altar of God and I said bygone is bygone. Some people do not believe it, I want to assure them I’m not like them. I cannot stand on the altar of God and make a statement and go back.

“Let us forget about whoever is angry or not. Forgive me if I have stepped on your toes and I have forgiven everyone who stepped on my toes. Let’s work for Rivers state. Anybody who knows me knows that when I say something, I’ll do it.

“We have done the little we can in the last four years and we will not wait, we will not relent, we will continue to work. There is no time for enjoyment. If there are any more awards to win in this country, I will collect all for this state.”

Politics / Buba Galadima: We Have Proof Atiku Won The Presidential Election by chinwe1960: 3:48am On Apr 09, 2019
Buba Galadima is one of the spokesmen of the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign in the general election. Though he leads the Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC) as its national chairman, he is a resolute member of the Atiku campaign on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In this interview aired on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Galadima insists that the PDP won the February 23 presidential election and that the court process would be used to prove the assertion. Group Politics Editor, TAIWO ADISA who monitored the interview, brings excerpts:

There were reports that you were arrested but the security agents denied that they had no reason to arrest you and then later on, we heard that you had written to your family members to say you were in a safe place. Were you actually arrested or just a gimmick?

It was not a gimmick. It was a reality and I just elected not to talk about it.

So, were you arrested?

I have elected not to speak about it.

You don’t want to speak about the “arrest” but you did write that letter to your family.

Of course, I did from where I was and assured them of my safety; to say that I was in safe hands so that there will be no anxiety.

The allegation was that you had tried to publish fake results of the election.

That is the lies the All Progressives Congress (APC) have tried to say. Were there any results announced by me or purported to have been released by me? All that they were afraid of is that if I’m free, I could have checkmated their rigging machine and I want to leave it at that?

You think there was rigging in the 2019 elections?

Of course, everybody across the world who followed the contemporary Nigerian election of 2019 knew that there was massive rigging and massive intimidation of voters. In fact, there was robbery by the APC, using the security agencies, especially the military, to rig the elections.

These allegations that you make…

If it is an allegation then go and ask the people from Bonima, from Bonny, from Asari Toru, from Degema and a host of other places in Benue, Plateau, Borno, Yobe and Zamfara states. Ask them whether there was military takeover during the elections, which the Supreme Court of Nigeria had clearly said in 2003, 2007 and 2011 that soldiers have no business in, even appearing during elections. They have no business and, of course, we all know that the terms of military engagement in security within the territorial integrity of Nigeria has to follow certain procedures.

You mentioned a number of states where you cite military presence as being the reason you think the results were rigged…

We are all Nigerians. You’ve been living here. You know, as of fact, that one month to the election, the military had declared what you call the Python Dance across the 36 states of the federation. That is preparatory to their engagement during the elections and they said not only before, but during and after the elections, this exercise will go on and it did go on and they used it effectively to intimidate voters, to harass voters, to kill voters and then write results for the APC.

You made these allegations…

Is that an allegation? You had not seen what had happened in Rivers?

We heard…

Oh you heard! You have not seen. I thought it was on the television that I saw where the military were entering houses and killing people.

Well, I didn’t see visuals of them killing people. What I saw….

The newspapers were awash with the number of people killed in several states. In fact, these military are good candidates for the International Criminal Court of Justice (ICC).

What we saw were military men clad in military uniforms taking over a collation centre. But when you say that you saw them writing results….

When you intimidate other people and you chase them away, you are giving those in authority the chance and the privilege to write results for themselves.

Aren’t you just looking for excuses to justify why your candidate lost in the election?

My candidate did not lose. Records available to us show that our candidate had won this election and that is why we have gone to court. This is why the APC has sponsored some highly-placed Nigerians and paid them handsomely to appeal to Atiku not to go to court. What is their business? Didn’t their candidate, in 2003, 2007 and 2011, go to court to challenge verdicts of elections? Did General Muhammadu Buhari, after the Supreme Court ruling that elections were fair and conducted satisfactorily, ever congratulate those that were declared to have won the elections? Why is it Atiku? Have you ever heard that a petitioner went to court and asked for permission to inspect election materials and the respondent himself now goes to court, because he’s not sure that what his agent did was right, to also ask for the same privilege to inspect electoral materials? They said they won and they want to inspect election materials. That has clearly showed you that the election was rigged and this election was not conducted according to the rules.

Some people would say we should speak with respect to what we know.

I’m speaking with respect to what I know. Maybe you don’t know, but I’m saying it to you.

Your allegation that some people were paid handsomely has not been substantiated by anyone.

Let them take me to court, I will substantiate it because those who came to persuade Atiku not to go to court were housed in hotels and guest houses that were paid with monies from…

Wait till they go to court.

They believed that for the sake of peace and for the safety of all Nigerians, it would have been better for him not to go to court so that violence doesn’t break out in some ways?

So, you mean that going to court and seeking for somebody’s right will trigger violence?

You know Nigeria better than I do. You have lived here longer than I have. From what you have seen and from your experience in the 2015 elections, if President Goodluck Jonathan had said he was going to court, what do you think would have been the reaction on the street then?

There wouldn’t have been any reaction. We had gone to court before. General Buhari was in court in 2003, in 2007 and 2011. The heavens didn’t fall. They wouldn’t have fallen if Jonathan had decided to go to court and he could have thrived because of what had happened eventually from the rulings of the Supreme Court in Rivers and Akwa Ibom. In fact, with the benefit of hindsight, I think Jonathan shot himself in the foot.

Some people say he (Jonathan) is a hero…

Of course, that was by choice. That is the democracy.

Do you agree with them?

I am a democrat. Everybody is entitled to his opinion. I don’t need to or not agree with them because they are entitled to their own opinion and we should respect their opinion.

I just wanted to know your opinion.

Don’t bother with my own opinion. I had expressed it at that time.

I believe you are here to express your opinion.

Of course, I do and you know that I speak my mind straight.

We spoke to Mr Segun Sowunmi and asked him what happened in his own polling unit. Were the elections rigged also in his own polling unit?

You mean one polling unit out of 129,000 polling units will determine what is right or what is wrong or what had happened or not happened across Nigeria? Are you fair to the system?

I’m only asking you a question, was it rigged as well?

If I tell you my polling unit is okay and there was no rigging, does that suggest that there wasn’t such in other polling units across the country.

You have alleged that the election was daylight robbery and totally fraudulent. The picture is that there is no polling unit in this country where free and fair elections conducted and your candidate could not have lost in any polling unit across the country.

Elections are not really what happen during queuing and voting alone. Elections could be rigged even before the Election Day and elections could be rigged even after votes were counted at the polling units. Between the polling units and the ward collation centre, elections could be rigged. The elections could be rigged between the ward collation centre and the local government collation centre; between the local government collation centre and state collation centre, and also between the state collation centre and the federal collation centre.

Let me give you an example; in Gama Ward, Kano, there was a successful election. Collations were made at the polling booth level. Collations were made at ward level. At the local government level, hoodlums led by the deputy governor of that state, came to the collation centre and tore the results. But because it suited the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the election in Kano inconclusive, they now awarded medal to the deputy governor for the brigandage and the thuggery he had done.

If you allege connivance between the Resident Electoral Commissioner and the state government, I think the onus is on you to prove that?

Do you mean the REC does not know the rules of INEC? He deliberately refuses to adhere to the rules of INEC that made him REC. What did he do?

We’ve seen that these allegations come as they affect each political party. Was the election also rigged in Atiku Abubakar’s polling unit?

I don’t know what you are trying to get to. Allow us to tender our evidence in court. I don’t want to pre-empt what the court will say. But I can say boldly that if there are courageous, just and Godjfearing Justices in this country, this election will be upturned and Atiku Abubakar will be declared the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as it had happened in Kenya.

I will give you an example of what had happened in Kenya. Election was conducted, Roila Odinga’s lawyer, the opposition candidate who was purported to have lost the election, went to court and approached the court to get certain documents from their electoral body in Kenya and the electoral body started playing hanky-panky and refused to release those documents to him. Unknown to them, we are living in a technological world; they had captured everything that was transmitted electronically. Foolishly, when they refused him access to the documents, even though granted by the courts, he now approached the courts and told the court that he had been refused….

The Supreme Court eventually ruled in favour of the opposition which was a courageous thing to do. But there were consequences in Kenya. Violence did break out, up to the Supreme Court judgment upturning the elections.

It was induced by those whose elections were annulled.

Did you think we will be able to take whatever consequence, be it good or bad, if the court rule in his favour?

Peace anywhere in the world is premeditated by justice and if the courts do justice, it doesn’t matter what happens after all. It is a price we have to pay.

Madonna University: Reps Threaten To Arrest Vice Chancellor

The House of Representatives has threatened to forcefully make the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Madonna University, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Edeh, comply with its summon and appear before its committee on Public Petitions, if he failed to honour its invitation on or before April 9, 2019

Others expected to appear with the VC include officials of the institution namely: Rev. Fr. Francis Nwachukwu, Rev. Fr. Francis Nginga and Mr Ogbonna Okey.

They were expected to give account on the alleged abduction and torture of two students, Stanley Okoye and Ga-Lim Aondofa, before the Uzoma Nkem-Abonta-led House Committee.

The two students were allegedly abducted and tortured by the school’s Chief Security Officer (CSO) and the Dean of Student Affairs.

However, the Committee regretted that rather than appear before it and shed light on the issue, the VC and the others ignored the invitation and sought to bar the House from investigating the issue by filling a case against the jurisdiction of the House to wade into the matter.

But an Abuja Federal High Court penultimate week struck out the suit on the ground that the parliament was constitutionally empowered by Section 88 (2) (a) and (b) to carry out investigation on such matters.

At its special public hearing in Abuja during the weekend, Deputy Chairman of the House Committee, Rep. Simon Arabo, who chaired the proceeding, said there is a need to unravel the truth of the incidence.

He lamented

Urueye, who graduated from the University of Lagos on Tuesday, was stabbed to death near LUTH on Thursday.

His assailants were said to have seized his personal belongings after inflicting him with serious injuries.

Elkana Bala, public relations officer (PRO) of the command, said two suspects identified as Gbadebo Jimoh and Malik Adeboye, were arrested on Friday.

He said men of the Itire division of the command arrested the duo and that they had been transferred to the state criminal investigation department, Yaba, for further interrogation.

Medical students of UNILAG had staged a protest on Friday, lamenting the high rate of insecurity and calling on the school authorities to act.

Meanwhile, the management of LUTH has called for calm

“Members of top management and Specialist Consultants, including the Chief Medical Director were on the ground till late this morning when he passed on,” he said in a statement.

Crime / Nnamdi Kanu Indicted By USA Court For Spreading False Information Again Dr. Iroa by chinwe1960: 2:27pm On Apr 02, 2019

Nnamdi Kanu Indicted By USA Court For Spreading False Information Again Dr. Iroanya
This is sure not the best of time for the acclaimed leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu as one of his coordinators in United States of America (USA), Candy Stallworth has indicted him before Honorable Judge J. Scott Duncan of the Circuit Court of the First Judicial Circuit for Santa Rosa County, Florida-USA. Miss Stallworth told the court that Mr. Kanu fed him with fake information which she used against Dr. Clifford Iroanya.

Between the months of April and June 2017, Ms. Candy Stallworth personally and intentionally made several accusations against Dr. Iroanya which included belonging to terrorist groups within and outside Nigeria. These accusations were made on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter and was also published by an online media platform: https://www.naij.com/1106751-ipob-member-boko-haram-terrorist.html.

Not pleased with that, Ms. Candy went further to send twitter messages to President Donald Trump’s Twitter handle informing the President that Dr. Iroanya is a deadly terrorist who has planned to assassinate President Donald Trump. She also accused Dr. Iroanya of plotting with terrorist groups in India to attack the Jewish nation of Israel.

This nefarious action of Ms. Stallworth triggered a lot of other chain reactions. First, because Dr. Iroanya was among the signatories to the documents used for official registration of Biafrans in Israel, the Israeli secret service immediately invited the Biafran Representative in Israel and grilled him for several days because of Dr. Iroanya’s alleged involvement with terrorist groups.

Second, Dr. Iroanya was inundated with calls from all over the world from concerned friends and family members after reading the widely-circulated online publications. In addition, Dr. Iroanya was covertly monitored and put on high-level watch-list by all intelligence agencies and especially by the US-based intelligence agencies. Above all, Dr. Iroanya being an oil and gas engineer in a highly-regulated Industry, his activities and movements were closely monitored because of these spurious allegations by Ms. Stallworth.

In a swift reaction, on July 11th, 2017, Dr. Iroanya instituted a lawsuit against Ms. Stallworth through his Attorney, Hunter R. Higdon, Esq. of James L. Chase & Associates, PLC (Attorneys and Counselors at Law) based in Pensacola-Florida.

After failing to prove the allegations against Dr. Iloanya and to evade going to jail, on the 27th of September 2018 and in the presence of the Court Reporter, Deborah G. Kharuf, Ms. Stallworth voluntarily and under oath of the Court entered into a plea bargain in lieu of going into full court trial. In her plea bargain, Ms. Candy Stallworth affirmed the following;
1) That all the allegations she made against Dr. Iroanya were false.

2) That she made those allegations based on false information she received from the following persons;
i) NNAMDI KANU (same person as Nwannekaenyi Kenny Okwu-Kanu)
ii) UCHE MEFOR
iii) CAROL MUNDAY
iv) OBIDI OBIENU
v) JOSEPHINE EREWA
vi) CHINASA NWORU
Stallworth’s plea bargain was generated and signed by her and Dr. Iroanya and the Honorable Judge J. Scott Duncan signed the Final Stipulated Judgment which includes Ms. Candy Stallworth’s payment of one Dollar as damages to Dr. Iroanya (see attached supporting documents).

Speaking about the outcome of the case, Dr. iroanya said “the lessons-learned here are that individuals should be more circumspect and measured in their utterances and writings. Also, those who receive information from their organizational leaders and associates must verify and critically analyze that information before making use of them because it could cause an embarrassing backlash as is the case of Ms. Candy Stallworth.
“Lastly, those who go to social media to freely pour venoms and acidic words and making threats on others must desist because the consequences may be too damning on them.

“For Ms. Candy Stallworth, she has learnt her lessons and will never make such mistakes again in her life and if she does, then she will live with the consequences. For the six indicted accomplices named in the judgment and their cohorts who are still defaming Dr. Iroanya and other innocent people, they are hereby urged to stop now or they will regret their actions sooner than later.

“Let these indicted accomplices and their cohorts take a little bit of their time to go through Section-373 to Section-375 of CAP. C38 L.F.N. 2004 (The extant Criminal Code Act/Law in Nigeria) for which culpability is independent of location, time, and media/platform upon which the defamatory actions were made.
“They must understand that Dr. Iroanya will not hesitate to invoke and deploy this Law to send them to jail, should they continue with their defamatory activities” Dr. Iroanya concluded.
