Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by chris81964(m): 11:05pm On Aug 17, 2014
obimind: I am still expecting a reply. Pls help ur brother. I don't want to make a silly mistake when going for a solar system. Thanks!
What is your consumption? I can help you calculate what your needs are if you can tell me what your consumption is. Is your system 12 or 24 Volts? This will limit the size of the panels you get. Give more details and we can advise

samflexxy: Nice, briliant buh does it work well?
Yes it does. Better than any product we have installed thus far. More solid and it compensates for the variation in voltage that is common in Nigeria

From 1 to 12 KW. They have 3 X surge ratings. So a 1 KW can surge to 3 KW. A 3 KW can power your 1.5 KW AC. A 12 KW unit has a surge rating of 36 KW, That is equivalent to an over 40 KVA generator. We are very excited about this offering. The reception has been impressive.
We sold out of the first 10 Units that we had manufactured for us. Stay tuned for more

Science/TechnologyImportance Of Inverter Cables: Minimize fires And Improve Battery Performance !! by chris81964(op):
A lot of you reading this note, have Inverters installed in your homes. These inverters store energy from the grid in the batteries and when the power from the grid goes out they power your appliances and lights.

They are a worthy solution if you get up to 6 hours of power everyday. It takes that long with full current to fully charge your batteries. If you get less than 6 hours a day your batteries will suffer because you never fully charge them and this significantly reduces the life of that battery. Batteries are happiest fully charged.

I had an experience with a system we installed in Nigeria that highlighted the importance of cabling. I had plugged in an iron and it ran the batteries down almost immediately. Most people assume that is because of the power draw from the iron. That is partially correct. The losses from thin cables account for more than 60% of the losses you suffer from a system. A typical battery is 200 AH. To calculate the watts you multiply by your system voltage. If you have a 12 V system that represents 2400 Watts, 4800 Watts on a 24 Volt system and 9600 watts on a 48 Volt system. Your iron draws between 1000 and 1500 watts. The battery has more than enough energy stored in them to allow you to use an iron. That is a lot of energy going through your cables.
If you have had this experience check your cables. If they get hot while your inverter is on, they are too small. The smallest cable you should use is 1 AWG (42.4mm sq) or 0 AWG (53.5mm sq) anything smaller is asking for trouble. In addition to poor system and a rapidly draining battery you can have fires. Inverter fires in Nigeria have become very common. Thicker cables reduce resistance. The thicker the cable the lower the resistance. The better the performance and the lower your chances of fires.

Conclusion; if the wiring on your system is too small, get it fixed. I have enclosed a picture of wire sizes for you to use as a reference. The red is 4 AWG, the black and red is 1/0 AWG and the black is about 0000AWG or 4/0. If the wires are not as thick or thicker than your finger, you are inviting trouble. (if you have super big fingers, it might no apply to you. But if you have cables that are that thick it is a good thing).

I have visited the website. We have to give anyone props for setting up a manufacturing facility in Nigeria. They are creating jobs and helping grow the economy.
My biggest complaint is why can't they take high quality pictures of the cars? The resolution on the images on the website is below what is expected in this day and age.
I agree with people who say that they need to do a better PR job. Nigerians will patronize them if they know about them. The images of the vehicles in the alps or wherever the snow is, appeals to our sense of something foreign. Oyibo man does his in the desert or jungle to appeal to the adventurer in him. We do ours in Oyibo land to appeal to the Oyibo in us.

Thank you for introducing your products to the Nairaland crowd. It tell us that you believe in the forum and its power to reach a large audience.

We have 200 Watt 34 v panels. We don't sell the panels or inverter / control system separately. We are OEM so we sell our own brand

hunda: Does it carry deep freezers too, am looking at it keeping my food always intact, by the way how much is it and what is the span
If you watched the video, you would have seen a big refrigerator, a deep freezer and a water cooler all running at the same time. The panels are good for 25 years or more. The batteries can last up to 5 years if we size them right from the get go. The control system which has the inverter and charge controller has no moving parts except the cooling fans. It is a computer. They can last a very long time or a very short time. It really depends on how you care for them. Expect up to 10 years from them.

You did not hear a generator. The home in the video was powered 100% by solar during the time the video was made. The beeping noise was from me pushing buttons to get readings from the system. The other sound you heard was from a cooling fan just like you have in your desktop computers. I have no experience with what you call Inverters. I have experience with with Solar and Computers. The cooling fans make noise when they draw heat out of the systems. My laptop makes noise when the cooling fan comes on.

dailydolla4u: Was the home powered on Generator or solar power? Because from your video there was a noise of generator.

And I understand that solar power is noise less just like inverter battery backup power.

A system we installed in Magodo. Initially ran with two batteries and the homeowner agreed to double the capacity. He should have 8 batteries to get the a day and half with no sun and NEPA / PHCN.

slap1: And you, too.
.
Yes Mr. Slap 1. Which is why we are telling you about alternatives. The generators in use in Nigeria were not designed to be used for extended periods. There were not designed for use in congested areas either. The noise, the smoke (increased incidences of sinus infections, lung cancer), the fire hazards, electrocution and aspyhixiation can all be avoided when we look at alternatives that don't pollute.

Generators: The Silent Killer

Happy New Year to all of you. We were told about problems people have had with generators in Nigeria and we decided to do a search in the Nigerian papers to confirm if these problems were common. This is what we found. A disturbing trend that we hope to help our readers avoid.

Read some excerpts below.

“RECENTLY, a new-wed couple choked to death from generator fumes in their new home on the outskirt of Calabar, Cross River State. Around the same time, in Ibadan, Oyo State, a 69-year-old man passed away along with seven other members of his family after they were overcome by fumes from a portable generator that was running on the first floor of their home. Reports indicated that the level of fumes inside the home was three times the danger limit.

Prior to this incident, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, two teenagers died from generator fumes poisoning because the generator they were using to power ceiling fans was too close to the room in which they slept. Much later, in Agege area of Lagos State, a middle aged man who was running a generator in his basement died in his sleep when the generator fumes infiltrated his bedroom.

In yet another incidence somewhere on the Lagos mainland, a 30-year-old man who went to bed with his family while a generator was running in his garage, also died along with them as a result of the close proximity of the device. In Abuja, between June 2012 and March 2013, four people died in separate incidents as a result of poisoning from generator fumes.” Vanguard October 9,2013.

This was what happened on May 28, when Mrs. Chinyere Celestine, and four of her children were found dead in their home off Goodnews Street, in Azikoro suburb, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

They were said to have died in their sleep that night, while the generator was still on.

The father of the children and husband of Chinyere, identified as Celestine, who was said to be in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, when the tragedy occurred, had called a neighbour when he could not reach his wife on telephone the next day. After several attempts to wake the victims, the neighbour raised the alarm that compelled other neighbours to force the door open. They found the victims’ lifeless bodies.

A similar incident happened on January 3, when death shattered the usual early morning quietude of Robiyan, a sleepy town near Ijoko in Ifo Local Government, Ogun State.

On that fateful day, residents discovered the lifeless bodies of an 80 year-old woman, identified as Madam Kuburat, and her four grandchildren, including a toddler, in a newly completed house. The generator, which was placed in the veranda of the house, was left running all night while the doors and windows were locked.
