Good afternoon folks. Update. I notice a slight slip in my transmission. Most people would not notice it. I did.
I drained the transmission and put 4 liters in. I will drain and fill again in one week and one week later I will repeat. Remove the drain plug let it drain. I am getting a transmission filter and gasket sometime later this month. I will replace the filter then.
Check your fluid it should be bright pink.
The spill was accidental.

I think so too

The ripped boot has been changed. I had a guy do it. I insisted he wash the old grease away with gasoline. He did not have any cleaners. I had told them to count the turns as they loosened but they did not count. I have to do the alignment today.

What country specs the car from?
Is it GCC or Asia, EU or brand new purchase here?
The owners manual is in French. I was told that Schneider Electric owned it prior. The documentation seems to support that. I will guess it was purchased in Nigeria

Nice.
Any reason why it wasn't going past 120?
There might be a speed limiter. Good for me when I decide to get a driver. Even when it down shifted it would not go past 120 kph.

Where do you get this from?

And I agree with the last part. Ehailing can be very harsh on cars.
Do an engine flush. I used the Liqui Molly. There are many options up to and including using diesel or ATF. Mycarparts supplied the Rotella T6. They are on Jiji

Yes they were imported Mobil 1.

Infact, when the first incidence happened, I thought the first seller sold fake oil to me so I stopped buying from him and switched to the usual 20w 50.

When I imported the second vehicle, it came in with less than 110,000 miles. I started buying oil and filter from the second seller. Oil was changed every 5000 miles. To my surprise, same sludge issues after a couple of months.

Now I just use 20w50 and change every 2500 miles.

Funny thing is, same oil from the same seller in two other vehicles (a J32 engine and a VQ37 ) with oil changes every 5000 miles do not have any sludge issues. These ones are privately driven and not used for ehaling.

Apparently, it's not the seller. It's either from the IZZ Fe engine as others have said or something to do with what the vehicle is being used for(ehailing)
I normally do an engine flush on any car that I purchase. This gives me a baseline. You might need to change your oil more frequently. I use Shell Rotella T6. It has more detergents in it. It should help with your sludge issues too. Bolt is a more punishing duty cycle than your privately driven car.

can you pls possibly provide a review on the following;
1. cost of maintenance?
2. cost of parts
3. ease of getting replacement parts
4. reliability
5. how the suspension performs considering naija roads.

thanks
1. I am handy and I will do the basics myself. So that reduces that cost
2. They are not cheap by any stretch. But then I spent 40 years in the US. So if I compare it to the US it is fair.
3. I answered
4. They are relatively simple, it does not have overly complex systems. So they should be reliable. I have joined owners forums and they swear by them.
5. I have had two weeks so I can answer. I was driving a Chevy S10 pickup an old Mercedes E class and I get driven in a Corolla or Matrix. This is in a league of its own. I have driven a Lincoln Navigator on smooth roads in Nigeria and the Pajero comes close. The others are cars so not fair and one is over 35 years old. So it is good

would be really nice to enjoy this as a Pajero owners/enthusiast thread rather than a comparison thread. i have enjoyed the thread so far because it speaks of a different brand and product to what we see everywhere on NL. pls lets keep it that way. A Pajero owner should be able to read this thread and enjoy it while learning a thing or 2 from it.
Everybody knows we all have our favorite brands. There's really no need turning this to another "na my d*ck big pass" thread.
But n'a him pass oh. Thank for being the voice of reason.

Yesterday, I drove to Epe from Oshodi. I went via Lagos Ibadan expressway.
The Pajero prior to being owned by me averages 500 km per month. The last 2 years as per the owner was spent on the island.
I have put over 500 km in the short time I owned it. The ride is smooth. Would get to 100 without an effort. Refused to go past 120. Lots of noise but no progress. Ride on the Sagamu Benin portion of the road was good. The new Epe road was smooth as butter.
The AC on these cars are good. I did not overheat. I set it to 25 and left it.
Tomorrow I will replace the torn boot, get new spark plugs and replace trans fluid.
Nice ride so far. The vehicle has présence. Black with tinted windows. The police officer that stopped me at a check point only said. Good morning sir. The last time I was driven there they asked for money.
The best stealth vehicle to own. Low cost of entry but a lot of bang for your buck.
Pictures are of my trip to Paradise and the torn boot that will be replaced.
Next time I will take fishing gear with me.

Yes, they are very different vehicles.
One is an SUV, the other is a sedan.
However, the engine displacement to power ratio is what I was comparing. Not the cars.
The torque that the Mitsubishi can produce and over the range it produces it is what you should look at. An F1 engine is 1.6 liters and yet makes over 1000 hp. Would you compare it to the Honda. The three cylinder Yaris with 1.5 liters produces 300 hp. Does it make your Honda a bad engine?

Honda accord 2011 v6
They serve different functions. The accord would out drag the Mitsubishi. Throw in snow mud or sand and it would be a different conversation . Horsepower does not help you in those conditions.
Car TalkRe: Car Gear Box Oil Change by chris81964(m): 11:53am On Mar 05, 2023
Get the owners manual. It lists what type of fluid. After 2007 Toyota started to use the WS or world standard. Supposed to be life time fluid. If you have over 60 km change the fluid. Drain and add fluid. Measure what comes out. So that you put the same amount back in.

I still disagree sir!!!
After using my Pajero for close to 10yrs (1995/96 model) I can confidently beat my chest and tell u there's no desert it can't cross.
That car was specially built for off road adventures and boy I did have alot of off road experiences with that baby.
As far as I'm concerned the Pajero can go anywhere the Prado can and can't go
Toyota builds some incredible vehicles. I am not sure we should be making comparisons. However the Pajero has won the Paris Dakar race more than the Toyota. The 4WD systems in the Mitsubishi is very impressive. If compared to a Toyota of similar engine power the Mitsubishi does very well.

The reason there's no buyer for this is because it's diesel.
Dying brand ke!!! Whoever told u Mitsubishi is fragile is probably hallucinating.
Mitsubishi, especially the Pajero brand is one of the most rugged, durable, tough SUV i have ever driven. As a matter of fact I think the Pajero is even a better SUV than a Toyota Prado.
The person I bought the Pajero from also had a Prado. Guess what they liked the Pajero more
Car TalkRe: The PAJERO Club by chris81964(m): 6:08pm On Mar 04, 2023
I did a coolant flush. First with liqui Molly and a 2nd with Prestone. After draining with Liqui Molly. Coolant was still green. Réservoir is reddish. I am running it with Prestone for a few days. Then I will do a 50/50 mix. I also did a engine flush using Liqui Molly engine flush. Drove the Pajero for a few days. I drained it today and it was nasty. Very heavy. I used a Mitsubishi filter and Shell Rotella T6 15W40 oil. It has some powerful detergents and it would help clean the engine. I also added 12 oz of Techron fuel system cleaner to the tank. All this I did myself. Earlier in week I replaced four tyres. General Tyre 265 65 17. I also replaced the air filter. It was very dirty.
Coming up a torn boot and spark plugs.
I use an app My Car to track everything that I do on the car.
