TheSuperNerd: @bolded and the rest... You have stated in a nutshell a Mentality I forged when I began my football followership journey years ago as a little boy.
It's not hard really to be a Naija football fan. This was always the way and still the best way. Reason why keeping up with our players is always a thing of Joy for me.
Some or several are still just realising this.
Kudos. It was easier for me because I grew up watching and hearing more about Okocha and Kanu in the early 2000s as a kid. No one had time for club football since we could hardly see one. When I was a kid, I could go on a hunger strike just because the Super Eagles lost a match. Our loss in the shootout against Tunisia in 2004 was one of such. |

BankyGee: It's the "our match" for me 😆
Shey na Peseiro dey coach Leverkusen? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I don't really fancy all these European club fanaticisms, so I just root for any team that has a Nigerian player. That said, I'm a Barca fan but funny enough, I would support Madrid to defeat Barca in a final, if Madrid fielded a super Eagle. In a situation where the two teams have Nigerians, I just wish the players have good games while the best team wins. |

Was he still playing top flight football as at 33 years old? Zurich is top league in your eyes?
Somebody that was playing retirement football after 1994 world cup. Lol okay |

forgiveness: 1995, Yekini, prime in Switzerland league at 33 years old? Okay. I understand. You are looking for the easy way out, hence resorted to distorting fact deliberately. Yekini's best was in Setubal where he scored 91 goals in 114games from 90-94, then in 95, Weah got crowned for his cumulative effort between 94 and 95. If Yekini was good enough, he would have at least gotten a nomination. He went to Zurich in 97 where he scored 14 in 28 matches. |

forgiveness: Well, in the 80s, African football was very competitive because majority of their stars played in Africa then.
That was when the Nigerian professional football league was very interesting. Even CAF champions league.
Rashidi was part of the team that was defeated in 1984 Champions league finals in Lagos after winning the league in 1983 and scored 45 goals in 53 matches for 3sc.
He was just 20 years old then.
Osimhen has also done well and has achieved in Europe. Those years African football was far from being competitive. It was filled up by too many minnows |

Before 2026WC, we will have an improved midfied and defense. The defense is already taking shape.
Between 2024 and 2025 Eletu, Daka, Akin and others will have been blooded in. |

Icon4s: That is the point bro Take away goals Osimhen scored against Sao Tome and what will be left? Yekini never played against such opponents or even worse while repping Nigeria? How many did he score against them even with our heavily lubricated midfied and wings spoon-feeding him, unlike what Osimhen has in the midfield and wings now? Hey and that was even when football rules were not as strict as they are today. |

I remember Yekini had this thunderbolt of a shot, he could shoot with extreme power and accuracy. lovewins: How exactly do you describe "too religious"? And how does his "religiousity" hurt anybody? How his he any different from many other players who express their faith in the game?
For some players, Muslims especially, they without fail bow their head in worship when they score a goal. The best player in the world at some point Kaka was known to flash "thank you Jesus" whenever he scores a goal and he was expressive and unapologetic about being evangelical. Arguably one of the best sprint athlete in the world today Sydney Mclaughlin is 10x more expressive about her faith l. It's easily one of the first things you'll notice about her when you check her out and she does it in a more liberal society like the US.
Taiwo has only flashed once if I remember correctly, yesterday was celebrating with his corss ingrained shin guard which again isn't unusual. Much of the expression of his faith has been on his social media, which any disinterested person is free to unfollow. I hope you wouldn't be mad if he was flashing a symbol of Calabash filled with some materials? |

Taiwo Awoniyi is becoming too religious in the game for my liking. You lot should learn to keep your religions away from the game. |
