Business / Re: Alaba International Market, Correcting The Populace Mind And Setting The Record by christopher123(m): 7:11pm On Sep 03, 2020
Onlinealaba:
I will start by quoting Edmund Burke where he stated “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Yesterday after a busy day at work I was just on my stroll on nairaland front-page when a particular topic caught my attention I carefully read all the comments and I think it's necessary to create this topic to correct notions identify many issues concerning the market and business related activities and set the record straight.

Alaba international market is a very big market(biggest electronics market in west-africa) even though we have the electrical section, industrial section, fancy and furniture section that is categorised , each of this section of the market have their union leader with a task force set up in over seeing the day to day activities of the Market. The electronics section is splitted into two the IMAE( You get most of the new electronics here and also tokunbo though not major) and is headed by the able leadership of Evangelist Paulinus Ugochukwu( MD sound prince company limited) then the St Peter's axis this where you get most of your tokunbo items.

As a first timer at Alaba you will be approached by a lot of osoafia hustlers some are genuine(looking for their daily bread and hustling to better their lives) while most of them are there to rip you off without conscience now most times they work on your greed, someone will approach you to tell you he will give you a Samsung 32" LED TV for 15k and so many outrageous prices like that if you fall for this first and cheap scam then you are your way to come create more topics about how you were scammed at Alaba.

These scammers and fraudsters have their rings and are connected it's likely you don't escape their bitter pill when you fall in the hand of one of them the best to do is to be wary of their subtle devices. It's worthy to also note that these set of people are both Yoruba and Igbos because it was terribly seeing so many people playing the tribal game and associating a particular tribe to the cheap scam that happens daily, the Yoruba osoafia guy will approach you and poison your mind on why you shouldn't patronise a Igbo guy and with trust you believe him the same thing an Igbo guy will do too(note that are all same ring both the Yoruba and Igbos) their major aim is to rip you off.

I stated earlier that there are task force that handles all the issues concerning each section of the market the main thing is identifying the section you transacted from and go and report immediately , identify the task force chairman it will be easier solving your case.

There are alot of genuine and hardworking traders in the market the same way you can't Cross out the bad guys in such a big market like that(they always have their way round) the only thing is making sure you are observant and detect any shady deals before paying for an item, read the receipt issued to you before signing.

And lastly that an item is tokunbo doesn't mean it should go for an outrageous pricing unless you are buying non tested, some particular item in tokunbo are costlier then the new ones (depending on the country of import and manufacturer).

A submission from a trader at Alaba int'l market Ojo Lagos

my dear....nwayo...Abu m onye Igbo ...Mana alaba Ike gwuru.... it is scary buying stuff in Alaba...I prefer buying online

Is the mdx based on the transmission or is the transmission type based on the mdx?
I would have loved to take your advise but statistics from users and reviews say otherwise.

Again, the bullet proof reference was to the second and third gen mdx transmission.

I never said the transmission on the first gen mdx which the op bought is bullet proof. Read again to understand this.

Don't worry about what I should do about my transmission. It's not failing any time soon. I can assure you.

I was surprised the way they are calling the mdx when almost everyone I know that uses it has gotten gear issues before ,why must I use a car and budget money for gear change ?

that is one challange with Honda products and MDX isn't excluded ....if left for me,I would go for Volvo ....you know we have this Japanese mentality here ...that's why

Thanks to everyone for the recommendations.

I actually went for the MDX, it's been 3 weeks now and I'm okay with it.

I actually have a friend using the Volvo XC90 and it's been 2 years now with no issues.

But I choose MDX because of my budget plus it carries the highest vote here and among some other friends I talked to.

I appreciate everyone's contribution.

you would have gone for Volvo bro...that SUV is noted for ruggedity ! Volvo has. a tradition of ruggedity and safety...beside that you can't call this a full SUV ...this is cross between a sedan and SUV ...not a full SUV , Acura isn't a body on a frame ride ....though it might be 4x4 ride but it doesn't drive like an SUV

Slightly true for the first generation mdx which op bought.
However, if op follows the maintenance schedule and uses the right fluid, that transmission will last a long time.

For second and third gen mdx, their transmissions are bullet proof as long as you change the oil when due. In the mdx group (mdxers.org), I haven't come across a post for a failed transmission but have come across posts with failed radiators which led to transmission failures. As a stand alone unit, those transmissions hardly fail.

my brother forget that bullet proof, most Honda transmission which MDX is built on its platform don't have strong gears most Honda and Acura guys always change their gears ....that is true , if you drive one budget 150k - 200k for gear change when it comes ! that is the truth

Volvo is a car or brand noted for ruggedity... people follow popular demand not as if that MDX is thee best

if I was to select, I would go for Volvo first and then Ford, Acura MDX is the. last because of her gear and leg wahala and the engineer isn't robust like Volvo

Culturally and traditionally, the anioma people of delta state are not Igbo's. The language might be similar. The core Igbo's refers yo delta igbo are 'Igbo Hausa". Which is derogatory and a classification. To avoid long explanations like in case of Derbi, average aniomas might call him/herself Igbo. We don't say Igbo kwanu in our meetings.

have you gotten the difference in culture and traditions of Anioma and Igbo people

let's start with
names
village names
village festivals
village deities
village heads titles
maiden names
market days
names of their gods
names of their village founders

this would make me to know if they are Benin related or Igbo related

Spot on, you see say na the average students dey over rate themselves why the brilliant students keep humble and reserve.
I'm a 22yrs alumnus of the Great UNIBEN, while it's a general attitude of some lecturers in Nigerian public universities to deliberately toughen things for students to seat up while in sch, its sadly part of the Nigerian mentality that until these tension or stress or shouting by authority figures, young people don't seat up.
This eventually negatively affects the other students who doesn't need the stressful environment to thrive.
Most of our lecturers never improve or upgrade their methods or approach and sadly so, because the schools mgt are not dynamic to assess lecturers out and re train them to improve.
There's no way an average hard-working student in Nigeria will not excel in universities abroad, given the more relax and intellect building approach over there and especially after surviving the "war" approach in Nigeria.
Too many students on this threat are just being the average Nigerian undergrad, there are advice from some brilliant ones on this thread but they won't learn and grow, only complaints all over.

it's crazy bro

Politics / Why Igbo Man Can't Be Allowed To Rule Nigeria - Tunde Ednut by christopher123(m): 5:59am On Sep 02, 2020
Though with a funny musical career or do we say faltering musically with no album the last few years, no single, no "banger", no LP Tunde Ednut made a name when the Nigerian pop culture was in her nascent period when competition wasn't there much ! He dropped a single or two and off he goes! Though today, is a blogger or do we say a social media commentator. He has been in the news lately for his love for Igbo staying in Nigeria and his phobia for Igbo being a president because of Biafra! Whichever way you look at it, Tunde is in news and possibly using Biafra to trend once again!

All for the gram, Tunde, just like tundra took to the Instagram and made his position clear to those that follow him amms said "“An Igbo man should not be allowed to be president of Nigeria. I have a feeling that BIAFRA will be established if that happens. They will leave us Oo and Nigeria will crumble if they leave Oo. Igbos have been planning BIAFRA since. They have their plan together. Let’s not give Igbos the opportunity to leave now. We are in this Nigeria together, you will not run anywhere. we die here."

Now we have a different school of thought here, some folks are saying that Tunde has demonstrated his hate for Igbo and that he has made it clear that no Igbo will ever be president if he has the opportunity, while others have seen this statement as a patriotic statement which is in tune with the "indivisibility" of Nigeria and the need to keep the Igbo ethnic group in the country having seen the tremendous glory and strides they have brought to the nation.

"How did you even". You are wrong on this bro. There are so many ways you can construct your sentence with the same meaning. Example: How did you manage to ... Or how on earth did you...

If you like even, use 2, 4, 6 etc

I am talking of tenses not useage or syntax

I am looking at basics of English (tenses) I am worried that they can't use proper tenses ! it is just worrisome,I must say.

Can we now say that Edo is no longer Edo because they accommodated people of various origins in the past?

Yorubas have people of Edo, Nupe (Tapas), origin living among them. Can we now claim there are no Yoruba again since they are of diverse origins? Ijebu even claim Sudan origin.

Anioma is Igbo if we are being honest.

do you know that obaseki has Igbo origin
do you know that the oba has Yoruba origin
do you know that some quarters in Benin have igala origins

today they are all Benin ...I wonder why many of these agbor folks are daft not as if we in Igbo are begging them ....I don't see what they are bringing to the Igbo general table...they are not richer than Anambra per say or more educated or .ore enterprising or more developed or more technically advanced....Anambra alone dust the whole ika ...Nnewi alone dust the whole agbor and their ika stuff...an average Anambra dude doesn't give a freaking damn how they see themselves

an average Anambra man is at home with Enuani delta and Aboh because they have been neighbours centuries and inter married and shared same culture...but many ika think that damn are given about them...

trust me , no damn is given about ika and that is why Anambra don't even engage them, they are the ones that try to engage Anambra...they have started wearing our red caps and using our terms of leaderships like obi and ichie

they are latins and yet they call themselves anioma a purely Igbo name ,they call themselves delta Igbo, they still called themselves be del igbo, and they are still in Ohaneze, in short one of the founding fathers of Ohaneze (Osadebey ) is from Anioma

you can say some agbor people don't see themselves as pure Igbo or truly Igbo thg doesn't mean that Anioma isn't Igbo...because the last time I checked , my friend okonji is seriously Igbo....you can say the confusion lies in agbor folks which we understand and don't give a damn about ...an aniocha or Enuani mam totally know who he is
