Guessed it's a failed thermostat


Got a good rewrite to Run the fans directly, test driving tomorrow to see it it fixes the issue.

If it does, a thermostat replacement is way to go.

you are making a headway. Replace the thermostat. If you can't source a good one, remove it for now. Better ur engine runs cold till you provide another thermostat than overheating. However, if you use coolant, faulty thermostat can't explain disappearance of the fluid.

I Refill the coolant container every 2 days

The only day I forgot to top up the coolant (was the day the issue started.

New Radiator cap now, new radiator, fans run directly now...I pray if should fix it all.

no, it won't. It will only mask it till it can mask it no more. The culprit is in the engine. Mostly the top. Go and fix it. Change your top gasket.

I just wrote troubleshooting areas for you. For a car parked that long with battery probably disconnected, I doubt it will register any code. But if you have the service engine or malfunction light on, then scan. Even if they are not on, still scan.This can lead you to a straight forward fix. Where is ur location.

After driving for about 10 minutes, temperature gauge stays at middle point and doesn't leave there but immediately you switch off the engine, the coolant reservoir is bubbling hot and full to the brim (meanwhile it contained little coolant before driving)

Also, dashboard heats up a lot and on cranking the engine, it's like a rush of water happens behind the dashboard.

sorry, this happened. You likely have a head gasket issue. Your coolant is getting burned off. What's your exhaust fume like.

The major gripe of GDI engines is the buildup of carbon, particularity on the intake valves and pistons which would cause the condition you stated above.

This, coupled with poor maintenance would easily coke up piston oil control rings and lead to excessive oil consumption.

Sometimes consumption can get so bad (imagine 1 quart for every 200 miles) that the owner may not know he is dangerously low on oil till the oil light comes on.

Using API SN is a very good decision ( although the car in question was designed to run with SM, but SN is backward compatible up to SL)

I will add a picture to better explain LSPI and the role of oil. A car designed to run on SM cannot be compatible with SL. It can be compatible with SN and all other specifications with alphabet above or after M but not below or before M. The latest grade of oil is now SP.

WHEN EIS STRIKES
I think everyone needs a distraction from these endless fights so I'll drop the gist of my recent travails with the W204 C300.
I went out in the morning and returned home, no issues.
Wanted to go get something nearby but when I stuck my key in the ignition, I didn't hear the ESL unlocking. Turned it to start and nothing happened, bros was telling me to remove key from ignition
And so it began. My mech came in to check it out, verdict: Almighty EIS has struck
He tried knocking/tapping it but the ESL wouldn't bulge so he disassembled the steering and took it with him alongside the EIS.
2 days later, he's back with the ESL replaced and a new key, all had been programmed of sort. Then he was able to start the car and take it to his shop to complete other programs and repairs.
Now this is the shocker, given the past experiences i read on this, I was already scared on repair cost but it turned out quite alright, the fix cost roughly 120k.
I'd say any C300 is good to go if this is one of the worst issues it can have, everything else is pretty solid.
When I got it in January, I changed water pump, front shocks,linkage and plugs, besides those, its been a joy to drive.

there is a way they bypass the EIS. But then, the vehicle is at risk of theft. They also work on this module in ladipo, get a new key and program to it for about 50k or less.

Going by the user's review I saw online it's a nice vehicle, nice exterior and interior set up. However, the engine might suddenly pack up on you on your way to buy bread from the next street. The airbags also appear to just pop up at the slightest opportunity most of them on copart with just bumper damage already have their airbags deployed.

it's the Gdi engine. Gasoline direct injection engines. The injectors are designed to spray fuel at high pressure directly into the cylinders. This results in a phenomenon they called the Low speed pre ignition LSPI which knocks the engine. For this, they recommended API SN plus grade of oil for these engines to make them last longer. So if you have that GDI engine, use oil with that specification. This is the reason BMW now uses Pennzoil as their official oil cos it meets that grade.
