medube:Arsenal went unbeaten the whole season just the season before last, no other team on the British Isles have ever managed that. Arsenal have never won a European title, but then again neither have Ch€£$k¥. |
Football on its own is more than a sport. Haven't you noticed the pattern here? It is consistent with the saying: there are only 2 activities in this world, football and the rest! |
1. Jose Mourinho 2. Didier Drogba, 9 goals 3. Yakubu Aiyegbeni (what an idiot) 4. George Best 5. Rio Ferdinand (world's most expensive defender) 6. 22 goals 7. Wilson Oruma 8. Emmanuel Adebayor 9. Stephen Keshi 10. 3rd time |

I think Seun should seperate football from the sports thread. Football is something else that should be on its own. See the example here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/ |
Ferdinand is the world's most expensive defender, yes. And he isn't worth it at all. As Martin Tyler said: No attacker would be afraid to be marked by Ferdinand. I think that says it all about all current defenders under the age of 29. |
Every club needs an icon, and in these days of mercenary players, it is nice to see someone deciding to stick with his club. Let's hope that Arsenal matches the man's ambitions with some good players lest he becomes jaded like Paddy was... |
Show down in the ancient city ja? This is going to be interesting... |
Gray is a shadee of black or white depending on which side of the fence you're on ![]() |
After watching the world's most expensive defender on display against Manchester City earlier, I came to a realisation. Nowadays it's hard to find decent defenders like the great ones that were around a decade ago for example. A whole new breed of young defenders has risen, but none will amount to the legends of the past and the legends that are finishing off their last years such as Maldini, Cannavaro, Thuram, Stam, Cafu, Sensini... I may have missed many but you get what I mean. The question now is who will be the next Maldini? Carlos? Or for that matter the next big time defender? Looking at the current players, I really feel that they are not as disciplined as the old timers. That really is a scary thought, because we will no longer see great defending..I dont even want to start with the legends such as listed below: 1- Franz Beckenbauer (Germany) 2- Nilton Santos ( Brazil) 3- Bobby Moore (England ) 4- Carrizzo ( Uruguay ) 5- Franco Baresi (Italy ) 6- Elias Figueroa ( Chile ) 7- Domingos da Guia ( Brazil) 8- Djalma Santos ( Brazil) 9- Gaetano Scirea ( Italy ) Anyone on the same frequency please comment... |

Personally, I don't think that looking east is exactly a long term solution. But then again, can't Nigerians get off their arses and do some investing for once? |

Ladoja says he will resume office on Monday. Read here. Wow. Looks like the knives are being sharpened. The problem with our politicians is that they are too egotistical, and greedy! |
Inter patron Massimo Moratti confesses his regrets about 11 years of leading his beloved club through thick and thin. “Do I regret any of my decisions at Inter? Perhaps the first I ever made – taking charge of the club in the first place!” he joked. “All the others followed on from that.” Oil baron Moratti’s father took this side to the European Cup in the 1960s, but since he has been at the helm they have spent over £100m and won just one UEFA Cup, a Coppa Italia and an Italian Super Cup. “I have to say that sometimes you realise after a while that you have made a mistake, but if you make those decisions at the time then it’s because circumstances have put you in that position,” he told Antenna 3 television. Moratti’s popularity has wavered over the years and he eventually gave up the Presidency to former Nerazzurri legend Giacinto Facchetti. “I don’t regret this experience, as it’s nice to have such responsibility in your life and it was certainly a pleasure in that respect. However, as the results weren’t great, I don’t know if this brought pleasure to others. Once you divorce, you start to wonder if it was better never to get married at all.” The patron still holds the purse strings at the San Siro and confirmed reports Inter were looking to offer Francesco Toldo to Fiorentina in exchange for the loan of Valeri Bojinov. “It’s a transfer that makes sense, as they need a goalkeeper and we are missing a striker,” he added. |
