At present, I am conducting careful research that will enable me to choose a course (access or vocational) and an institution I will study at. Besides, I have packed my belongings, I am waiting for January to relocate to London. So there's no element of procrastination.
Once again, thanks. I will keep following this thread so any advice you give will still be highly appreciated. I believe you gat no more problem , you've made the very right decision, CONGRATULATIONS MAN! |

mathways: It's not at all difficult to bag a first class.Just attend your lectures, know what's going on academically in all classes and I wonder why you wouldn't make it.It's not working hard that matters.Just be smart in all ramifications and work gradually all through the semester. Like me,I get enough sleep on daily basis and still doing great. My classes are really tight but I manage to attend all lectures and get the materials right in class. This is not graduate school.Getting a first class doesn't make u a genius-it only shows you met the requirements for the course and at least of average intellect.I'm a senior now in telecomms and have gotten just 2 B's ever since I started studies.I still have time for lots of extra-curriculars. Making a first class is up to you.It begins on your first day in college. So work smarter and not harder as you need time to ease. @mathway guess s' b'cos ur not studing in Nigeria. but I think daz an excuse though!. I know with diligence and little prayer, first class is possible. |

Education › First Class In The University: Is It Hard? by chyziani(op): 7:53pm On Oct 19, 2006 |
While I was on the web reading the news, I can across a news on an Igbinedion University student who had a first class in law, I was so inspired by it. But I have a question to ask, , is it that hard to acquire a first class? Please can you read: Igbinedion varsity records another first class By Victor Omoregie
In the year 1999, the Federal Government of Nigeria decided to allow private initiative in the provision of university education in the country. That directive became the catalyst which saw Chief Gabriel Igbinedion establish the first private university in the country – Igbinedion University , Okada. Chief Igbinedion received a certificate on the 10th of May 1999 to operate a university.
The university commenced its academic programmes in the 1999/2000 session in five (5) Colleges namely, Arts & Social Sciences, Business & Management Studies, Health Sciences, Law and Natural & Applied Sciences. The foundation students arrived Okada on Friday, 15th October 1999. Since then the university has without interruption upheld its desire to return tertiary education to the internationally accepted calendar of September to June.
The College of Law is among the foundation Colleges of the university. It is worthy of note that Igbinedion University, Okada is the only private university in the country that runs three (3) professional courses, namely, Law, Engineering and Medicine. The College of Law has produced two sets of Law graduate since inception. The first set of Law graduates that went to the Nigeria Law School recorded a 100% pass at the Bar Examinations. The present second group of Law graduates in the Law School has just created a record. Among the Law graduates that have just completed the mandatory professional law examinations at the Law School is Damilola Sunday, who bagged a First Class.
The true ambassadors of any university are its graduates. Their performances when they graduate and join the larger society, goes a long way to show what they received as training from their alma mater. Igbinedion University , Okada has consistently made known that all the courses offered by the university are accredited by the Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC) and necessary relevant bodies. It is on record that all accreditation visits to the university have been successful. The various courses are at different stages of accreditation.
A course or programme is said to be due for accreditation visit if it has been operated for three (3) years. This means that no student can graduate in a course or programme without the programme being accredited by NUC and the relevant professional body. Accreditation in essence is to make sure that there is a uniform educational standard operative in all Nigeria universities in the country. The NUC is saddled with responsibility of making sure that educational standards are not compromised. Also the relevant professional bodies make sure that the students receive educational instructions of professional standards.
Olawuyi Damilola Sunday, a Law Graduate from Igbinedion University , Okada, who recently bagged a first class at the recently concluded Bar Examinations at the Nigeria Law School , is a very unique individual. An indigene of Osun State , Mr. Olawuyi was born on the 28th of August 1983 in Ibadan . He attended INRI Nursery/Primary School in Ibadan and for his secondary school education, attended the Igbinedion Education Center in Benin City . He was admitted into Igbinedion University , Okada, during the 2000/2001 session to read Law.
His school certificate results were indicative that an intelligent student had been admitted into the university. His certificate showed that he had three As, three Bs and two Cs. This pattern was further enhanced with the instructions, tutoring and guidance he received from his lecturers at the Law College of Igbinedion University, Okada. Most importantly, his lecturers say of him that he was a very respectful and humble student. Ever ready to learn and following instructions.
For his first year in the university, his results showed that he had twelve As, four Bs and one C, for the 200-levekl he got eight As and three Bs, for the 300-level he had eleven As and two Bs, at the 400-level he had seven As, two Bs and one C. For his final year, he received eight As and one B. Because of his exceptional and brilliant performance, the external examiner to the College of Law during his final examination had to take his scripts away for re-assessment. The results came back the same. His project in which he received an A, is titled “The 1999 Constitution and the Subversion of Federalism (May 2005)”. Till today the project has continued to provoke intellectual discuss among the constitutional lawyers and the inquisitive minds.
The only sad moment of his life came two weeks to the commencement of his final examinations, with the loss of his mother, Mrs. Victoria Olawuyi. According to Sunday Olawuyi, although he missed his mother and the loss was painful, he knew that his mother would have acceded to his decision to be steadfast and continue with his examinations. He said he had dedicated his success at his final examinations to the memory of his late mother.
Mr. Olawuyi was President of the Law Students Association (LAWSA) of Igbinedion University , Okada during the 2003/2004 session. According to his Project Supervisor and Sub-Dean, College of Law , Mrs. C. Okoboh “Sunday Olawuyi never missed a class throughout his stay at the university, whether in health or sickness”. He is a very outstanding student. Whenever the school goes on vacation, Olawuyi just goes home for one week and then returns to the university. Upon his return he copies the entire syllabus for all the courses that he would offer in the next session and thus prepares ahead of his classmates and lecturers. He reads for at least nine (9) hours in a day, which is indicative of a very disciplined mind concluded Mrs. Okoboh.
Professor Mojisola Ogungbe, Dean of the College of Law , Igbinedion University , Okada and has this to say about Mr. Olawuyi. “He is very respectful, humble, intelligent and levelk0headed. Am not surprised that he bagged a first class at the Bar Examinations. He has already done it here earlier on by obtaining a first class’. At the end of his programme at the Law College, Olawuyi asked his lecturers to impress upon his father that he will repeat the same feat of obtaining a first class at the Law School, as he did at the university, if he was adequately empowered. To this request, his father obliged him.
During the third Convocation Ceremonies of Igbinedion University, Okada held on Saturday, 26th November 2005, Mr. Olawuyi received the following prizes – Oba Erediuwa Prize for the Best Graduating Student, Vice Chancellor’s Prize for the Best Graduating Student in Law, Professor Olu Aina Family Prize for the Best Graduating Student, who must pass in First Class Hons. And the Vice Chancellor’s Prize for the Overall Best Graduating Student. Aside from these prizes, he received promised a cash prize of N100,000 by Dr. Ahmadu Adamu Mu’Azu, Executive Governor of Bauchi State .
While at the Law School , Mr. Olawuyi participated in a scholarship examination for Post-Graduate studies at the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He was successful and has since proceeded to Canada after the completion of his Bar Examination. The scholarship is being sponsored by the Canadian Embassy, the University of Calgary and the Law College of the University of Calgary . The scholarship is worth $30,000, with all expenses paid.
The performance of Sunday Damilola Olawuyi has again showed that Igbinedion University , Okada would continue to provide and produce quality manpower for national development. The performance is also an indication that Igbinedion University , Okada provides the right learning environment, teaching aids, professional education and quality staff to impart the right knowledge on the students.

Convenant University is a very good private university compared to her other counterparts, though I've never been there before, but have a friend there. But the only thing I think the should have a rethink is about the student's social welfare, we all know they'r training future leaders, but how can a leader lead well if he hasn't felt the pain of the lowly placed citizens, at least they should have a feel of the other side of life, don't get me wrong!, but let them feel as if em' still dey this world, cos I feel the freedom of expression is not there, and thats one of the basic right of a human, how would you ban, phone, jeans, coustomized jersey, , daz so outragious! Please this is not a secondary school, they are growing adults. |

DIA, u might be correct when u say the song was inspired by the role she played in the movie 'The Dream Girl', I can believe dat, but I know she has other motives behind that song, indirectly it is for little Rihyanna, I guess she just not secured with the way Rihyanna is into the Jigga man, I also believe Jigga has sometime in the offing! |
