Bad example? Yes. But there are many on this thread with holier than thou attitudes to this woman. I don't even know who the hell she is, yet have always held the belief that if a man cheats on his wife then, it's the man who is to blame. Same with any woman who decides to cheat.

Not much I can really add to it. The elite benefit from the ignorance of the population (it's pretty much true everywhere but taken to extreme in the less developed countries).

It will take a really long time. Look to the next generation as (since independence) our parents and grand parents have failed us.

Yet the PDP were voted in by the vast majority of those living in the south. Yeah sure there was some rigging involved, but most people I speak to in Lagos say they voted PDP, scratch that; they say they voted for Jonathan and not the PDP, go figure.

Yes I totally agree with you. Although not everyone's waiting for their turn. A lot of corruption stems from education (or lack of it) and poverty. I would love to see Nigeria look to leaders like Chavez and Morales as inspiration. Although I don't think there are too many left leaning parties in this country. It's way too conservative for my liking.

If you'd been in China during the 80s and 90s and driven around the streets there who would have thought that today they've just overtaken Japan as the 2nd largest economy in the world, they have a growing middle class and are literally constructing new cities as we speak. There's still lots of poverty there but they're developing, no?

Nigeria's not a BRIC nation but it's an N11 (next eleven), meaning it has everything in place (natural resources & population) to overtake the European superpowers within the next 30-50 years (if it can get it's act together).

Walking around Britain in 1913 knowing that Britain was the number 1 superpower in the world. Do you really think those citizen's foresaw two world wars that would leave their economy crippled and pave the way for America to overtake them as the number 1 super power. My point being things can change.

It's no use just saying Nigeria's doomed. What are you doing to help? What will it take for citizen here to wake up and do something. I thought the fuel subsidy issue was the breaking point. I was wrong. Look at Bolivian water wars and the Cochabamba protests and know that things can quickly change.

We can't even maintain roads, and you're worried about a World Class Stadium.

For those of you saying the citizens are the problem of this country, I put these questions to you:

a. How many of you citizens swore with a Bible or Quoran to be good followers of the leaders?

You're right and wrong. Yeah, the leaders are the cause of our woes but what have the people here done about it. Most government ministers aren't there to do government work they're there to make money. So why should they change the system. They'll replace themselves with a clone and continue to reap rewards.

It's for the people to change the system not the people benefiting from the system because that won't happen.

Throughout history change has only ever come from the citizens, the people that make up a nation and never governments. They simply cannot be trusted.

Look at the French revolution (18 century) when the people executed the monarchy and turned France into a Republic.
You have the civil rights movement in America.
Woman's rights.
The abolition of the African Slave trade.
and more recently the Arab Spring.

All changed because the people rose up and said enough.

Nigeria's biggest problem is that no-one's yet ready to die for the future of the country.

Those donations you pay every Sunday, well that's what runs the business. Like every business the best entrepreneurs will make it to the top financially and will become multinational. They may well buy a private jet so they can fly at a moments notice.

There's nothing wrong with being rich and there's nothing wrong with making a lot of money even for a pastor providing it's all legit. Why be poor? There's no honour in it. Ask anyone who's poor. I doubt they like it very much. Make money so you can live life to the fullest and give yourself satisfaction by helping those less fortunate.

if OP can start a trading business for N500k, and can make money, sustain himself, and build so within 3 - 5 years he's trading with N10 - 15m then he's a man that knows how to make money from what he does.....

and you know that he can handle much larger sums and make money from it given the opportunity.

Raising finance is what separates those that have money and those that are extremely rich.

There's nothing wrong with going to the bank providing you KNOW HOW TO MAKE MONEY first. If you can make money from N100k and build so within a year you have N200k you can then be trusted with N500k. too bad most of the world has been taught to consume rather than invest.

JV (joint ventures) is a good source of OPM too. If you're a trader and you've developed a relationship with a supplier abroad they may start a credit line where you no longer need to put your money up front and they give you say N50m worth of product to sell. But opportunities like those only come along when people can see you can make money and you're reliable.

My best advice is do all you can to learn for yourself. Who are the big guys in your field, how did they do it. Go to the bank and speak to them you never know (unless of course you're a banking expert) there may be opportunities there.

Firstly, I can tell him what not to do, and that's give his money to other people ^^^^^^^ to invest for him. Unless that person's a really good friend/mentor that's trying to teach you etc (and that's hard to find).

If for example your guy wanted to invest in granite, tell him to go and do the hard work of learning the business himself. If it's Forex, then he'll need years of hard work everyday before he can master it, so he'll have to build very slowly.

What I recommend is trade. You can never go wrong. Find a product find customers and then buy the product cheaper than you sell it. Build slowly - work hard. Once you have the business working and you know it inside out, learn how to raise capital to grow. For it is the entrepreneurs who know how to raise capital that become rich.

If there's something he loves to do, then let him focus on that, because there's no easy way to make money, so best to do what you love.

We had a very long discussion on this issue in office today. England as a country is not known to have any mineral resources, I hardy see any manufactured product MADE IN ENGLAND despite the fact that they are our colonial master. The only major investment in Nigeria that is traced to England is BP.

OP you ever heard of SHELL.

My questions are;
1. Why do we have less poor people in England compared to America.

2. Without a huge manufacturing base like in America, China, Germany or Japan. How do the British manage to sustain a vibrant economy and at the same time avoid the recession ravaging Europe and America?

Specialized industries, e.g. Rolls Royce provide engines for almost all airplanes, submarines, tankers, aircraft etc etc... something only a highly skilled highly trained/qualified workforce can do. That rules out China.
Finance/Banking i.e. London... They attract big business like investment banking etc.
Influence: G7, IMF, Nato, UN, etc.
and who says they aren't in recession like anyone else.

3. We have many blacks in England, they hardy made their presence known globally except in the EPL. Most noticeable black personalities in the world are from America, in music, movies, sport and what have you. Are the blacks in England marginalized or what? why are they not making waves as their counterparts in America?

You need to understand how bodies like the World Bank and IMF work.

Countries which donate the most money get the most votes. America donates the most money to the world bank so when it comes to voting a new president - they're always going to win as they have the most votes - that's why the World Bank president has and always will be an American. I was in church this Easter. The Pastor was talking about how the path to God was not through religion, science, or even doing good deeds, but through Jesus. Therefore don't believe the lies going round that islam, judaism and christianity share the same God. i.e. we Christians have the one true God.

To answer your question OP: God is with you if you believe God is with you - no one will convince you otherwise. And if you believe God is not with you , then God is not with you - and again, no one will convince you otherwise.

On the question of God: I believe (sometimes), but understand that if I was born in Saudi Arabia to muslim parents who drilled the koran and only the koran into me I would be a Muslim not Christian.

I've had christianity drilled into me since I was a baby. It's difficult to move away when you've told ever since you were born that you would burn in hell if don't do this and don't do that. It's tough. I think parents should encourage children to find their own way. I certainly will. This is what I believe this is why I think I believe it.... go out there and make your own choices. If they ask for guidance I'll give it but force them, no. Trying to convince people on Nairaland why their wrong is just stupidity.

I find that nowadays I'm naturally more inclined to the idea of a deist god.... less the christian god. But the Christian God will always be with me for reasons I've already explained.
