In honor of the iconic Italian brand's 70th anniversary, 70 historic cars will appear in different locations around the city over Columbus Day weekend.

This weekend more than $100 million worth of Ferraris will be on public display in New York City.

Ferrari flew 70 of its most iconic models there to celebrate the brand’s 70 years of existence. It’s the last stop in a world tour of more than 60 countries where the brand held anniversary celebrations.

Key among the cars to be shown in New York is a 1964 250 LM Scuderia Filipinetti Ferrari valued at $19 million and the Ferrari that Michael Schumacher drove to victory in the Monaco Grand Prix in 2001. The latter, arguably the most important modern Formula 1 race car, will be the first auto ever sold at a Sotheby’s Contemporary Art sale. That car is expected to fetch as much as $4 million.
In the meantime, here’s a look at the Ferraris on display at Sotheby's on New York’s Upper East Side.

Car TalkCustoms Gives Account Of Vehicles Seized Since President Buhari Came Into Power by Classicjadon(op): 10:57am On Oct 06, 2017
The Comptroller General of Customs, Hameed Ali, said that the service has seized 3,665 vehicles from 2015 till date with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of over N13 billion. NAN reports that Ali said this during his lecture titled “Problem of Smuggling and its attendant Consequence on Nigeria’ s Economy and the Way Out” at the IBB Golf and Country Club, on Thursday, October 5, in Abuja.

Ali, who gave a breakdown of the seizures, said in 2015, 1,917 vehicles were seized with DPV of N3.856 billion and 1,483 vehicles were seized in 2016 with DPV of N2.683 billion. He added that from January to August his year 265 were seized with DPV of N6.625 billion. The Customs boss said that the high value recorded in 2017 was because most of the vehicles were of high value which included 15 bullet proof vehicles.

Ali said out of the 18 vehicles seized in September in Abuja over non-duty payment, 13 were bullet proof vehicles of which 10 have no Customs papers. He said that Nigeria imported about 70% of its needs and that 45% of all the imports were smuggled into the country. “Lack of patriotism among the traders and complicity of Customs officers has added to the problem.

“Over 85 per cent traders are not trustworthy as they falsify documents except for about five per cent of them who can be trusted and often have their goods cleared within 48 hours,” Ali said. He said that the four arms containers intercepted this year were concealed with many cases of under declaration and diversion of imported goods.

On the challenges of Customs in fighting smuggling, he said the Service lost three officers this year. Ali said that Customs under him was being sanitised and now very few corrupt officers in its midst. “Ninety per cent of our officers are now imbibing the culture of doing the right thing,” he said. He urged Nigerians to report corrupt officers to enable the service weed out the 10 per cent of the corrupt officers.

Ali said that importers must be patriotic and stop inducing officers to fast track clearance of their goods. According to him, smuggling is a problem to the society that kills the local industries, adding that it hinders the growth of the economy. Ali attributed the cause of smuggling to greed.

PoliticsMakarfi Cautions Fayose Against Campaign For 2019 Presidency by Classicjadon(op): 7:29am On Oct 05, 2017
The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has said that the present campaign mounted by Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State to vie for the 2019 Presidency is contrary to the decision of the party’s convention that zoned presidency to the North.

Makarfi stated this in an interview in Kaduna when he spoke on national issues and the progress made by the PDP reconciliation committee in resolving the problems of aggrieved members.

He said: “He is on his own. What he is doing is not in compliance with the position of the party. The party’s position has not changed. The convention has zoned the presidency to the North and the chairmanship of the party to the South.”

Besides, Makarfi also dismissed speculation that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may be given an automatic ticket to contest the same position on the platform of the PDP if he finally decides to join the party before the 2019 general election.

Meanwhile, Fayose has said that the leadership of the PDP in the state adopted Option A4 system to conduct its primaries to select candidates for the coming local council election to allow transparency in the process.

Fayose, who stated this in Ado-Ekiti during the commencement of the exercise, also said the system would give room for the most popular candidates to win.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi yesterday, the governor was quoted as saying that Option A4 system would also help to reduce acrimony.

In another development, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Dayo Adeyeye, has urged the national leadership of the party to intervene in the crisis rocking the Ekiti State chapter of the PDP.

He alleged that Fayose might destroy the party if the national leadership failed to intervene.

Director of Media and Publicity of Prince Adebayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM), Niyi Ojo, stated this yesterday in Ado-Ekiti while reacting to the decision of the governor to conduct the primary in the Government House.

He said: “The national leadership of our great party should quickly come to the rescue of the party in Ekiti State before Governor Fayose destroys the party.

“In the first instance, the governor created his own constitution by fixing the maximum age for chairmanship candidate at 50 years while maximum age for councillorship candidate at 30 years against the provisions of the Nigerian constitution. There is nowhere in the constitution that stipulates maximum age for any elective position.

“Furthermore, the primary elections to elect the candidates for councillorship and chairmanship of various local councils commenced yesterday at the Ekiti State Government House instead of the various wards and local councils respectively. The governor is the electoral officer for the exercise.”

IslamNigerian Pilgrim Stranded In Saudi Arabia After Losing International Passport by Classicjadon(op): 11:56am On Oct 03, 2017
A female pilgrim from Bauchi has been left in Saudi Arabia following the loss of her passport, according to Abdullahi Hardawa, Executive Secretary, Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.

Hardawa, who briefed journalists on the exercise on Monday in Bauchi after the arrival of the last flight that brought back the pilgrims, said that the unnamed pilgrim was from Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area. “All pilgrims are back to the country, except one woman that lost her Passport; we left her behind in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia because she lost her Passport,” he said.

The official, however, said that Nigerian officials in the Holy city were processing a new passport to enable the pilgrim return home. He described the exercise as “generally a success”, and attributed that to the full support and total commitment of the Bauchi State Government.

The Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Adamu, in a remark, commended pilgrims from Nigeria for exhibiting good conduct throughout their stay in the Holy land. He also commended state pilgrims welfare boards for their support to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria during the pilgrimage, and described the 2017 pilgrimage as a “huge success”.

Ibrahim Jahun, Chairman, Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, commended officials, sponsored by the state government to cater for the welfare of the state pilgrims, for what he described as “total commitment” to assigned responsibilities”.

PoliticsRestructure Now Or Implode, Dickson, Bakare, Afenifere Warn by Classicjadon(op): 8:15am On Oct 02, 2017
Mixed reactions yesterday trailed President Muhammadu Buhari’s Independence Day broadcast, especially as regards the call for the restructuring of the country.

In the speech, the president said “Recent calls on re-structuring, quite proper in a legitimate debate,” have “let in highly irresponsible groups to call for dismemberment of the country. We cannot and we will not allow such advocacy.”

But Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, who insisted on restructuring, lamented that some leaders misconstrue the issue to mean secession. He warned that in its absence, there might be an implosion.

He described those calling for restructuring as the ‘’true patriots of Nigeria.’’ According to him, the current political structure of the country is not sustainable.
The governor spoke yesterday in an interview with newsmen shortly after a special thanksgiving service to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the creation of Bayelsa State and 57th independence anniversary of Nigeria at the King of Glory Chapel at the Government House.

“My view is that there is an urgent national imperative for us to review the country. Maybe some people have problems with the word restructuring, but we have to reexamine our nation’s foundation and see how we can make necessary adjustments that will promote a more stable and prosperous Nigeria.

‘’The structure of the country as it is now is not sustainable. Very often, a number of our leaders misconstrue the call for restructuring to mean secession, no, those calling for restructuring are the patriots of Nigeria because we want to lay a foundation for a Nigeria that will last for the next 50, 100 and 200 years and beyond.

‘’Those people forget that in the next 10 to 20 years, the country will be one of the most populous on the face of the earth. You can’t have that kind of high density human population, arguing every day and every time about the injustices and imbalances, there will be an implosion.”

Dickson said the best thing for Nigerians now is to have a consensus. “If there is any problem at all, it is how do we go about it? Not whether we should attempt restructuring or review or not. That, to me, is taken for granted and I am happy President Buhari said he was not opposed to restructuring.’’

Similarly, the Serving Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, disagreed with Buhari that recent calls for restructuring have provoked irresponsible agitations for the dismemberment of the country.

Bakare, who spoke on the state of the nation, yesterday said contrary to the views of the president, “it is the refusal to consider the need to address the issue that is causing crisis.”

The cleric also disagreed with the President’s position that the government is keeping up the momentum of dialogue with stakeholders in the Niger Delta to keep the peace.

“It is like the president has reduced the call for restructuring to naira and kobo by focusing on the area (Niger Delta that produces the oil) that lays the golden egg as if other areas calling for restructuring have no voice.”

Bakare, who was the running mate to Buhari in the 2011 presidential election under the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), said while he agreed that no responsible leader would encourage the dismemberment of Nigeria, the president’s statement could further infuriate other leaders who were genuinely advocating restructuring for true federalism, equity, fairness and justice in the system.

Bakare said: “The clamour for restructuring some years ago was the exclusive lingo of pro-democracy groups like the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), the Pro-National Conference Organisation (PRONACO), and The Patriots. The leading individual voices in this call emerged mainly from the southern part of the country.

“However, in more recent times, leaders from the northern part of the country have increasingly lent their voices to this call. From former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who has aired this opinion since around 2012, to a former governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, and, most surprisingly, former Head of State, General Ibrahim Babanginda, the call for restructuring appears to be reaching a tipping point.”

He added that despite the fact that the restructuring of the polity was implied in the manifesto of the APC, the government had, for a long time, been silent on the matter. He added that after much evasion, the APC, two months ago, eventually constituted a 10-member committee headed by Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the current Governor of Kaduna State, to address the increased agitations for restructuring.

According to the cleric, what restructuring means is to change the way an entity is organised or arranged.

Also, the Nigeria National Summit Group (NNSG) said it was a pity that, yet again, the presidency misread the tone in the land and the world, saying “this is a democracy and our president should not continue standing on the wrong side of history.”

In his reaction, the Secretary-General of NNSG, Mr. Tony Uranta said: “It is evident that he still lacks a real connection with the people; he is still unaware that we are not in the 1980s anymore; that he still doesn’t realise that guns are not the solution to every challenge besetting today’s Nigeria; and that force has never triumphed over ideology in all of history.”

The group wondered if Buhari’s advisers are not really leading him off the mark, and have not let him see how, by opposing restructuring, for example, he is setting himself up to lead a failed Nigeria, even when the majority of Nigerians and the country’s foreign friends are telling him that his only hope for gaining total support is by his acceptance to restructure Nigeria.

According to Uranta, it is because the president is not pro-restructuring that secessionist agitations are gaining ground, not the other way around as his speech indicated.

On its part, the Yoruba socio cultural group, Afenifere said the earlier the government embraces restructuring, the better.

The spokesman of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, in a phone interview yesterday said the refusal of the government to heed the call to restructure was responsible for the rising agitations and not the call for restructuring.

However, elder statesman, Malam Tanko Yakassai and the National Vice Chairman (South South) of the APC, Hilliard Eta, applauded the president’s position on restructuring.

Yakassai said he was impressed with Buhari for choosing not to take sides with either the antagonists or the protagonists of restructuring.

According to Yakassai, there is little the president can do on the issue as the power to restructure the country is vested in the National Assembly in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution.

Eta who underlined the need to restructure the country described the president’s speech as a great one.
“Like the president said, the call is legitimate but the issue must not be hijacked by secessionists. I am strongly in support of the president’s position that the country must not be dismembered. I stand for the indivisibility of Nigeria just like our president said in his speech.”

Meanwhile, President Buhari who said in his independence anniversary broadcast that Nigerians should be grateful to the armed forces for their efforts in ensuring that the Boko Haram terrorists in the northeast are defeated later yesterday joined the service chiefs to boost the morale of the frontline troops fighting insurgency in the northeast .

A statement signed by Air Force spokesman, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya in Maiduguri said the president’s aircraft landed at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) 105 Composite Group, where he was received by the Borno State governor, other top government officials and the service chiefs, including the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.

Adesanya said after the brief reception at the NAF Base, President Buhari was airlifted with a NAF Agusta 109 Light Utility Helicopter to the venue of the independence anniversary celebrations in Maimalari Barracks.

While addressing the frontline personnel, the president expressed the nation’s gratitude for the sacrifices being made by members of the armed forces, adding that without their efforts, the relative peace being enjoyed by Nigerians would not have been possible.

He commended them and promised that the nation would not spare expenses in ensuring the welfare of military personnel as well as enhancing their capacity.

Buhari took the time to personally interact with some of the personnel, especially those who have been wounded in action.

According to the statement, the NAF added colour to the occasion with aerial displays by its aircraft, which are involved in the ongoing counterterrorism operations.

On his facebook said "So Governor Ayo Fayose declares for the 2019 Presidential election today and within hours his finance commissioner and Accountant General are arrested! The EFCC couldn't not even pretend and wait a couple of days after Fayose declared before arresting his finance team to cripple him! Is this what we should expect as 2019 approaches? Is there still democracy in Nigeria? What type of administration is this? If Jonathan had done this to Buhari and the APC would they have been where they are today? The APC got to where it is by free and fair elections and they must not remove the ladder that others left intact for them."

Christianity EtcIslamic Preacher Who Order Husbands To Have S*x With Dead Wives Lands In Trouble by Classicjadon(op): 2:00pm On Sep 19, 2017
An Islamic Preacher has been banned from appearing on TV and radio after preaching that men have the right to have s*x with their dead wives.

Egypt's Supreme Council for Media Regulation issued a decision to ban preacher Dr. Sabri Abdel Raouf from making TV appearances after he issued a fatwa (religious edict) granting husbands the right to have intercourse with their dead wives.

According to Al-Arabiya, the decision to ban Sheikh Sabri from appearing on private or public satellite channels or to be hosted on radio stations was taken after Sheikh Sabri issued a fatwa that insults Islam.

Makram Mohammed Ahmed, chairman of the media body, on Monday added that such fatwa disregards Muslims’ ethics and morals and disrespects the sanctity of the dead.

He added that the council will not allow TV programs to discuss such issues, and will appeal to Al-Azhar - the leading authority on Sunni Islam - to investigate the controversial remarks.

The chairman also said that the media body a issued a memo to all channels to take into consideration which guests to select and to rely on scholars from Al-Azhar and the Awqaf Ministry in matters of fatwa.

Dr. Abdul Raouf denied issuing the fatwa, saying it was falsely attributed to him and that it was taken out of context.

He said he was responding to a reporter's question about a fatwa issued by an Arab cleric allowing intercourse with a dead wife and said it was forbidden, but he was surprised that the fatwa spread on social media and was attributed to him.

Dr. Ahmed Hosni, Vice President of Al-Azhar University, said Sunday that the university will summon Dr. Abdel Raouf to investigate what was attributed to him, and to know from him on what reference his fatwa was based on.
