In 2019, China imported nearly $10 billion worth of minerals from sub-Saharan Africa, according to The Economic Times newspaper.

Afilaka is among the local leaders who feel that Nigerians are not receiving their fair share. He also questions how many of the Chinese laborers have permits to work in Nigeria, a common refrain in the communities surrounding mining operations.

“There is a lot of darkness in my land,” Afilaka said. “If you’re coming in here and you’re extracting billions of naira worth of gold, I think the people should benefit from it.”

Ojewale and Onuoha called on the Nigerian government to intensify regulation and protection of its burgeoning mining industry.

“In a country contending with diverse forms of criminality, the involvement of foreign criminals in the extractive sector presents a serious security challenge,” they wrote. “These minerals are among the country’s most critical national assets and should be guarded through a coordinated security response.”

This is a valid concern for sure, and as if to underscore your point, Nigerian customs recently seized a large consignment of drones many of which were large enough to be fitted with weapons. Regardless of whether criminals and terrorists acquire drones, it is VITAL that law enforcement and the military must ALSO deploy their own drones for both surveillance and munitions delivery.

Thanks for this, this is exactly my fear, the terrorists are more sophisticated than we think and the military need to up their game and be wary of their antics.
I strongly believe they are sponsored by some foreign eliment who supplies them with weapon.
Im positive that with the combined effort of the airforce and military we will surely defeat the terrorist.

Goverment has been running it for years with no headway.Let private companies take over the business of running our refineries.

This is very very good news for those who understand what's happening right now in Nigeria.
Despite the NNPCL delivering 6 million barrels of Crude oil to Dangote Refinery,it was still able to produce 20 cargoes which it exported for sale.
Adding 1+1 together,the crude set aside for local refining and the one exported,it's clear to see Nigeria has started getting close or even surpassing it's crude allocation by OPEC.
Although it's a bit sad that Nigeria still hasn't finished selling its stock for January,the cheering news is the fact the NNPCL will never deduct its earning every again in the name of paying for Subsidy.
Another cheering news is NNPCL has already set aside 4 cargoes for delivery to Dangote Refinery in February, meaning it's forward planning its delivery inventory for next month.
My Fellow Nigerians,This great country is about to experience massive and exponential growth in its Industrial prowess.
I say it with utmost Faith, Nigeria Journey to greatness has started,it's only a matter of time before things start to get better.
Let me sound this note of warning though,things will definitely get very tough before it gets better.
The distribution network of Dangote is still at its elementary stage.
I expect there will be massive chaos over the next 2-3 months while it perfects its distribution network.
Pls let the government and the company start planning on how to evacuate the product.

Another area the government need to look at is the insecurity situation in the country, it's getting out of hand and it seems the military is overwhelmed. This alone could frustrate the effort of government in reviving this country.

Dangote refinery will not make fuel price come down.Only improvement on the foreign exchange can bring the price to where we want it to be.But with this refinery on board we hope it will strengthen the naira.Improve electricity will also help curb inflation.

But you should know that once the Refinery is in full operation and we don't have any reason to import again there will surely be an improvement in the foreign exchange rate.

I'm not blaming the soldiers infact I commend their efforts and sacrifices.

With simple fractional distillation of crude oil you can easily get diesel and jet fuel (kerosene).The process is easier that's why Dangote decides to go for these 2 byproducts first.
