So to you, Ricardo Carvalho and Cudicini are bigger legends to Chelsea than Mikel. Na wa.
After Carvalho left, Mikel stayed on for the Europa League triumph. Carvalho and Cuducini are Chelsea greats not legends there is a difference. That said, they are definitely greater Chelsea players than Mikel. Carvalho was a key member of a successful Chelsea generation that dominated the epl. Cuducini was a dependable Chelsea goalie |

TheSuperNerd: Sooooooooo...... AFCON 2013 no follow for great moments in Nigerian soccer folklore abi??
Loooollllllll......
because Mikel was Lord of Afcon 2013? You left it out?? Boyyyy!!!! You have no idea how a whole medical college felt after we conquered Africa in 2013 and how in love we fell with Mikel again after the beautiful memories of Holland 2005 Fifa u-20 world cup.... Ahhhhh... You don't know... You don't know the ripples of Joy and excitement that emanated....
Bro... You're trying too hard to diminish Mikel's place among the greats.... Try harder!!!
Hahahahahahahahaha.....
https://persephonemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/tennant-crazy-laugh.gif Mikel wasn't MVP of AFCON 2013, he didn't win the golden boot neither did he have the highest number of assists. He wasn't even Nigeria's best player or captain in that tournament. Again he was just a part of the squad, nothing more nothing less |

There are players that helped Nigeria qualify for her first nations cup, won Africa's first olympic football gold, won Africa's footballer of the year awards(some multiple times), were best players in their clibs in Europe and inspired a Nigerian football club to win back to back African champions league title. Those are our true greats. Players that gave us great night in football, memorable nights, proud nights. Players whose moment of magic we remember til this minute. Rashidi Yekini celebrating Nigeria's first WC goal, Kanu Nwankwo scoring two of our most memorable goals on that 1996 night, Finidi George regarded as one of the finest wide midfielder in the world, Amuneke scoring that headef goal that gave us gold, Ikpeba referred to as the prince of Monaco.
Truth be told, Mikel won't be remembered like these true greats whose contributions we still appreciate decades later. |

Mikel was part of all these. with all those club titles, Mikel is still not regarded as a Chelsea great except here on nairaland. It's not just about titles but contribution to the team matters more. safarigirl: like I said, zero knowledge. Just another amateur who thinks football is based on how many defenders you dribbled past and how many aerial duels you won.
Please, when you write this list, put down their achievements as footballers by the side and compare it to Mikel's.
We'll need the amount of tournaments they featured in and how many they won in their careers, not daft things like amount of tackles executed and pass accuracy, ain't nobody using that shiiit in the real world. That's just for PES and FIFA gsmes you want to tell me that Mikel is a greater player than a Jay Jay because he won more medals than him? |

Hell, I like to think I'm a failure cuz I'm nowhere near where I ought to be in life considering how I started, shit happens, you don't get to give someone flack when you have no idea what they've had to go through.
The people who matter don't think he's a failure though, that's why he stays happy. The way Mikel started, he could have ended worse, you know? Like Balloteli, cuz I remember he had a terrible temper, he's better now
And saying Mikel will never be a great for both club and country just goes to show that you know nothing of what you speak of. Mikel is already a GREAT for Nigeria, you can't mention Top 10 Nigeria's Greatest without Mikel,. He's done it on all levels already for both club snd country. What else is there? you asked for top 10, I'll give you top 30 Nigeria players of all time and Mikel wouldn't feature. Mikel isn't even the greatest Nigerian footballer to have worn the blue of Chelsea fc Mikel has made money from football, that remains his greatest achievement. If that makes him happy, I'm happy for him too but we shouldn't attempt to rewrite the script |

TheGoodJoe: You call one of the most decorated footballers in African football a failure.
Let me give you a heads-up. Mikel's former agent, Anderson went to jail because of Mikel. You can not understand the situation he found himself. Mikel used his head to stay relevant in the game and beat his trials.
Mikel is underrated but his impact in football will never be forgotten. He is one of the greatest midfielders in football. He just played a disciplined role, instead of a flashy role. His discipline and brilliance earned Chelsea titles.
There is no relationship with failure with Mikel. one of the greatest midfielders in the world? That's it, I no fit argue further. |

joseph1013: You can't say the reason she says 'nonsense', according to you, is because she is a woman. TheSuperNerd and thegoodjoe made the exact same point, why didn't you attack them with the exact statement.
I can assure you that there are so many males who have said rubbish on this thread. One of them said Mikel is a failure with intense emotions. What do you say to that? for starters, I never wrote that she says nonsense as u falsely quoted. As a matter of fact, I fancy safarigirl as one of the brightest nairalanders. The only issue I have with her is her feminist and argumentative chatacter which I know is because of her inecperience in life(i was once like that). On Mikel, I would totally understand it if someone calls Mikel a failure. Yes, he has made a lot of money from football and is living a life many of us can only dream of. But I watched Mikel play in his teenage years and thought he would one day become one of the best midfielders in the world. But do you know what he decided to be? A coward. A mediocre who killed his own talent by deciding to play safe and not explore his own talent. Take a look at Kevin De Bruyne. When Mourinho didn't show faith in him what did he do? He pushed for a transfer to Wolfsburg because he knew he was better than what he was getting at Chelsea. The kid went to Germany, proved himself and today is playing for city and regarded as d best player in the epl. Mikel was in a De Bruyne situation early in his career and decided to remain there. He will never be a great either for club or country cos he failed to dream, to take a risk. So yes, mikel is a failure in some ways |

The stats speak for themselves. 20 goals and 10 assists for club and country in about 1500 minutes of play, even the likes of Rooney and Lukaku didn't have those stats at 19 where is d misogyny in my previous comment? Abi ones sex doesn't influence their thinking again. Anyways, lets stick to football On the golden boy vote, Rashford deserves to be above Kelechi on that list, though he shouldn't be above Iwobi. You see, both Rash and Iwobi are playing important roles for their respective clubs but Kelechi is a bit part player for city. Please stop calling Rashford a fraud, the young man doesn't deserve it because he has been a model of what a young footballer should be. Iheanacho and Iwobi equally have great attitudes so far |

Whether he becomes a ballon contender or not will not be determined by my faith in him, but his faith in himself and his abilities. I did not say Kelechi is better than Sanchez, but please, Aguero is certainly closer to a ballon d'or than Sanchez is
Bros, very few people take Kelechi as serious as I do, I know how many debates I've had on his account on social media, most people here haven't even bothered that much. Mikel and Kelechi are two players I'm very much invested in, so no, I doubt you take him as seriously as I do.
You question his talent when he's pitted against some of your favorite players, I never question him. If you know how sad I get when he doesn't get a goal or an assist in a game, that's exactly how I feel when Nigeria loses a match.
It's very personal for me abeg, you no like am reach me I no say I like am pass you. Well for u it's more of emotion than reality, that's the summary of what you are saying here. Not surprised at all, your profile doesn't lie you r indeed a woman |

safarigirl: Meanwhile, to those who say we are over hyping Kelechi, perhaps you guys didn't watch him at the U17 World Cup, so you may not understand our point of view.
If a legend like Ian Wright can consider Iheanacho starting ahead of a legend like Aguero, pray tell, who is this Sanchez that Kelechi cannot bench? Is Sanchez better than Sergio Kun Aguero? Does he have a better goals-game ratio?
When English press is telling us that Rashford can bench Zlatan, then it's Kelechi that is even better than Rashford that can't compare with Sanchez? Is Sanchez better than Zlatan?
Nobody is over hyping anybody, where was Sanchez at Kelechi's age? The only thing Sanchez has over Kelechi is EXPERIENCE Sanchez is a greater asset to any team than Kun. Yes, Aguero is arguably the best number 9 in the planet right now but his overall contribution to the team falls a little short of Sanchez's, IMO. My dear, you don't love Kelechi more than some of us but we have watched football for so long and have seen players with greater talent than Kelechi fail to fulfill their potential. Bojan krkich created records as a Barcelona youth player that surpassed the likes of messi. But where did he end up at his prime age? Stoke city. You are not doing Kelechi any good by comparing him to Sanchez. The boy needs to grow and garner more experience and hopefully we'll proud as Nigerians if one day he is pictured caressing the Ballon d'or |

Who Sanchez is obviously better than Kelechi and also at par with Aguero. Giroud as a number 9 is better than our home boy when you consider experience and aerial ability. Perez, I can't rate yet cos he has not played on a consistent basis. For walcott, I don't fancy him that much |

safarigirl: Iwobi is a more used player. Kelechi would ne starting if he was in Arsenal.
The more frequent player is usually the better eventually. Me thinks Kelechi should look for another team next Season because City won't use him like he should be used, Gabriel Jesus comes in January and he'll be seeing even less games
As for CAF APOTY, both of them hsve at least 2 seasons to go for that Kelechi won't start in the present Arsenal team |

Loke I said, resting him is the sokw excuse for the last 2 games 3-1 is not a wrap in d epl these days so d Swansea game didn't meet that reqt. As for yes'day's game, you don't change to a less defensive formation against a team that has taken the lead 3 times. Bringing in a second striker would hv left city more vulnerable at the back against a team that had breached their goal 3 times already. |
