I need not clarify anything with you. Thanks anyways. I can see how old and matured you are too from your responses.

FYA

Please print this email and take it to the visa officer.

Your I-20 states your program of study as Public Administration because the SEVIS system does not list Public Affairs or Political government and Processes. As DSO's we are to choose the title that best fits our school's program of study for I-20 purposes.
You can change the DS 160 to match your I-2O as that is what is stated on your I-20.

Thank you,

Ernestine B Clayton
Director/ PDSO/RO

AfonjaBoston:

Bros,

Public Affairs and Public Administration are not the same.
How old are you?
Funny you brought up your dad's citizenship.
Why would you rather "immigrate" to the USA to go and study as an international student when you have HUGE benefits if you travel under the F1 or IR2

Your story is not adding up.

Keep exposing yourself

Nothing was in asterisk. It's the 214B they gave me but in a white paper.

Amakyzuu:
@cmbagwu we also had same white paper with passport handed back to my sister. Did they asterisk the administrative processing section? or the paper was blank without the vo's ink? i sent u a PM, pls respond... thank you!

Thank you for your comment. I seriously have home ties here. I got a promotion in January with a good salary increase and I have been in the banking sector for 4 yrs now. So I really don't understand what you mean. Needless to say, my dad is a US citizen so if I really wanted to migrate desperately, I would have asked to file an immigrant visa for me but I have a job and a business I run here which is going great. Then again, the delay is best known to the Visa Officer.

AfonjaBoston:

Being cocky and blowing grammar will not give you visa.

The VO saw he clearly doesnt have "home ties" and he will "marry" to hurriedly "cheat" the system.

He does not hold a vital position in the industry he works at. (Accounts team, IT could have given him a better chance) The bank is saturated and anybody can do customer service.

He killed it when he.couldn't tell what his career path is

You cannot be paying millions of naira to go study that .

This one go enter street and the VO did his or her job

My visa was delayed yesterday the 9th of June by a young VO in Windows 4 after delaying the guy before me. I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong. I was as confident as the VO.

VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning and how're your?
VO: Great! Please pass me your passport, Sevis and i20.
Me: There you go. Passed them.
VO: Why did you choose this course?
Me: I chose to study Public Affairs because, asides the fact that it's a sub-field of my undergraduate study which is Political Science, this course is a vital requirement needed to take up a position as a Public relations officer after my masters degree.
VO: So you will come back to your place of work when you finish your masters?
Me: Yes please but as a Public relations officer as I am currently a Customer Service Executive in my place of work.
VO: So where do you work and what are your duties?
Me: I work with XYZ Bank PLC as a customer service executive and I manage the social media platform which is Facebook, Live chat and Twitter handle. I'm duly responsible for handling customers queries and complaints and I provide feedback from customers not satisfied with a particular product or service to the unit involved for proper review of the complaint and possible timely resolution which is conveyed to customers on these platforms. We also monitor the channels (Mobile app, Online banking and ATM) for network fluctuations.
VO: Okay.. So what will this course do for you?
Me: This course will give me the knowledge and insights to manage emerging issues in my organization both internally and externally. It will also help me develop current policies and besides, it's a vita requirement needed to take up a position in my current place of work.
VO: Are you married?
Me: No please.
VO: Any kids?
Me: None for now.
VO: I can see Public affairs on your DS 160 and on your i20 I'm seeing Public administration.
Me: My admission is in Public affairs but when my I20 was sent to the US government for processing they didn't have my course of study as it is stated on their system and the course closely related was Public administration. Both courses have same curriculum and course outlines. So it's no different but just the name.
VO: Okay. Starts typing for a minute or two.
VO: Have you traveled outside the country before?
Me: No please, haven't had a reason to until now.
Vo: Okay. Types again and again and again.
Then he handed me a white paper. As I was about to jubilate, he gave me back my passport and i20... and he said, I'm sorry I won't be granting you a visa at this time. Then I looked at the paper.. 214B. Now in a white paper... I shook my head.
Me: May I please confirm why I'm being delayed again?
VO: it's written in the paper I just gave you.
Me: Thank you. Didn't know where I gathered the strength to laugh. But I laughed anyways.

This isn't the end of the world. I said to myself. I just drafted a mail and sent to my school telling them about the discrepancy in my admission letter, and what I have on my i20 and the international office was kind enough to send me a mail stating the reason for the discrepancy and asked me to print it and send apply again.

I have chosen to defer till Spring 2018 coz school (New Mexico Highlands University) resumes on the 15th and I don't want to start explaining and speaking English at the POE.. Let me give myself time.

Top of the day people. Please I have a slight challenge. I filled the DS160 form and submitted it but I'm unable to access the confirmation page and it logs me out when I try to access the confirmation page. Though I have sent a mail to them asking if my confirmation page can be retrieved coz I need it on the day of the interview. My question now is, can they help me retrieve and maybe send the confirmation page since I have successfully submitted it?

Lest I forget, I was told to talk about the state "New Mexico" I'm traveling to after requesting for my account statement. I had to ask the VO "please are you referring to the school or the state and he said "The state itself" I became confused but I just said the little I knew "New Mexico is in the rural part of the United states and their economy is quite affordable compared to other cities. I think this sold me out.

Visa delayed this morning 26/7/2017 at windows 4 at Lagos consulate. NB: when a VO Nods his/her head, please don't be confused. It's not a sign of affirmation, it might simply means "I can hear you, continue your super story". Anyways, Transcript goes thus:

Me: Good morning
VO: Good morning, and how're you?
Me: I'm doing great and I'm sure you are too.
VO: Oh yes I am. Pass me your i20, sevis payment and passport.
Me: passed them
VO; what's your highest level of education?
Me: BSc in political science
VO: when did you finish?
Me: 2011
VO: what have you been doing?
Me: I have been working with different organization. I worked with Losberger GmBH, xyz bank but presently I'm with ABC bank as a Customer Service Executive
VO: So why Masters degree now?
Me: when I joined ABC bank, I drew up a 10 years career plan which is to work for three years, go for masters for two years then come back home to apply the skills learnt in the next 5years before running for public office as a councilor. The VO "nods head"
VO: So how did you find out about the school?
Me: A colleague of mine who just came back from his study leave recommended the school to me and I also used educational websites like usnews and Princeton review to check the ratings and reviews about the school and other schools.
VO: So why public affairs?
Me: Public affairs is a sub field of my undergraduate which is political science and it's in line with my short term and long term goals. It will help me to learn the analytical... VO cuts me.
VO: So you have a job waiting for you when you return?
Me: Oh yes, I'm going for a study leave.
VO: so have you travelled outside the country before?
Me: No please, haven't had a reason to.
VO: who will be covering for the tuition expenses?
Me: My dad will sponsor and I will also assist as I have been saving up for this program.
VO: Dis you get any assistantship
Me: No please.
VO: May I please have both statement of accounts.
Me: passed them. He looks at them for a while and typed on his computer for a while then passes it back to me.
VO: I don't think I will be able to approve your visa today.
Me: oh, no problem, it's okay. Have a great day(not from my heart though)

Got out and went to the car park, then my car refused to start.. village people, una well done oh. Spent money I didn't budget. But it's okay. Ready to fire again. The VO just wanted to be a tough nut to crack. I will crack it up this time around. Any corrections please? So I could change formation and do the necessity.

I was in your shoes some weeks ago. Please wait for three business days then apply again on the fourth day so you don't pay another N64k. You will use same Ds160 barcode and update it on the appointment page or you refill a new DS160 form if the expected date of entering the US doesn't elapse when you book another appointment. Feel free to hit me up if you need more clarification.

luzon:
Good day house. Will like to know when I could reschedule an appointment that was supposed to be for today. There was a mix-up in the application code as my name on today's list had the code of Abuja (My previous appointment). Meanwhile the DS 160 page I was holding had the new code.
They said I should reschedule it and apologised that it could be a system mix-up. I tried to but can't see the reschedule tab, although I started filling the ds 160.

Egbon Sunday, nobody is criticizing you for asking such a "strange" question. It just sounds weird when an intending student will be looking for free application fee. They do not share 'free' i20 in the US, it is processed with the application fee. So rather look for schools with less expensive fees and apply. There are schools that do not require GRE and TOEFL but to increase your chances of 'free' tuition, you may have to write these exams. Hope I have been able to help you Sunday Freeman.

My people am new here.. I need list of schools where i can do my PGD in US with free application form and without requesting for any standard exam.. Pls kindly help a brother.. thank you

Texas State University is actually a good school. I have a friend who just graduated from the school. They give TA and RA but you will need to have convincing reasons why you chose the school.

free74fire:
After carefully researching about schs based on many criteria, one of them is Texas state university, I have not seen anyone here apply to this sch, so I want to ask if this school is safe especially for interview at the embassy because it is one of the schools I am considering.

Also if u school there or applied or u know som1 there, please describe wat its like schooling there.

As Femi usually does to help students, please find information below and do the needful.

1) You can register for gre as soon as you are ready and prepared to take the exam. Its done online at www.ets.org. You can also get all the information you need about the exam on the website. You will get adequate materials to prepare for the exam here https://www.dropbox.com/sh/t9ot6d07hp1lkm7/AADL_dTihjEvNBRCBsmAcoXja?dl=0 . Proceed to this thread to learn from people's experience about the exam
https://www.nairaland.com/1832477/how-achieve-high-scores-
gre/44#39955826

Go to this link and download how you can ace the GRE
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-ii97JplpxMTVhRZGplOEhPaVE/view?usp=sharing

TOEFL is an English test required by some US universities. tho, some schools waive due to d fact that Nigeria is an Anglophone country but u can write it if you have d capability as it will increase your chances of getting assistantship.
For toefl, all you need are the speaking noteful videos, the ets toefl guide is enough to ace the exam for other sections. Just download the toefl ETS Guide from there website and the simulation test.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/45tvc3ifi8wh8sh/AACXR5j6l3nsWK8vZx5P28TVa?dl=0

2) Honestly, If I were you I will plan towards Fall, more opportunities open up in Fall because that's the main admission season in the US. However, you can still meet up with spring but everything will be at a rush which doesn't always help you to put in a good application.
3) Nobody knows how to write SOP until they start. It takes about 3weeks-4weeks to write a good worth graduate school SOP. The SOP is just as important as your gre score and CGPA.
4) In life it is always good to know how to fish than to always ask for fish from a fisherman, learn how to use google for some public knowledge questions. A quick google search would have given you the meaning of LOR. I am not discouraging you from asking questions but always try your best to research about your curiosity first, Infact no excuse for ignorance. LOR is letter of recommendation. Most times, you need 3 LORs from your undergraduate Lecturers.
5)In summary, go and prepare for gre to boost your chances of admit and funding. Few things in life are certain, admit and funding isn't one of them but you can only do your part and leave the rest to God.
The following link will help you in chasing your graduate school dream

My first appreciation goes to d founder of ds great forum Seun Osewa, cos without him lot of us would av bn lost nd duped by agents, me being no.1.

My esteemed regards goes to Cmbagwu, ds guy calls me as if he’s my father. As if he’d be at lost if ds thing go otherwise. The surprising thing bou ds guy z dt I never knew he hasn’t even gone 4 his own visa yet. Where an average Nigerian would be fightin 4 his own head. He still called me ds morning 4 a quick one. I salute ur selfless act boss.

Texrem!!! Ds dude is an angel. He told me last nty: “Guy, I want u to wake me up wt a good news” after our concluding mock session. My profound gratitude goes to PrinceG& Shabol, I thank u for everything. Ur impacts are unquantifiable.

To other gurus in d house (lagosismyhome,oludare01 nd odas)dt I knw, it wz due to d fact dt deir hands were full tats y dey were unable to help me. Bt ur contribution is unquantifiable, it also complete my whole. Keep up d gud work.

I used to be among d ones dt tot Nigeria can never be great again, bt ds forum proved me wrong. Let's replicate ds to d outside world.

Fast forward to the morning of this day. I woke up by 2:20AM to use the restroom. Sleep must have remained there because as I got back to my room and jumped on my bed, I didn't get of any of it for the rest of the morning.

While on the bed, I peeped my WhatsApp to see uplifting messages from this awesome gentleman, cmbagwu. Banks don't give BTA and PTA unless you have a return ticket. Since yours is a student visa and a one way ticket.. you may have to look else where. You can meet with BTC to buy dollar from them.

OGreene:
You don't need to bribe anybody. Go to a branch and request to speak with the manager, they have to say what you will understand. You need PTA not BTA. The B stands for Business and P - Personal.

If you have accounts in other banks, it wont hurt to ask them how the process works there. Then apply where you want.

Hi guys, I introduced a family friend turned sister to this thread and she got her visa approved so I had to persuade her to send her transcript so others can learn a thing or two. Please find transcript below.... quite long though.

Ok, well I'm just a silent person on this thread, joined exactly 2wks ago, and u guys have been amazing, I didn't do any mock interview persay, more like I kept on going over transcripts and asking myself questions.
Visa was approved yest 7am appointment, 12th June 2017. I saw all of u, green and white native, the guy that was interviewed after the guy that cried(chai I really felt for that guy, see as full grown man they weep). I also noticed the white pretty lady was giving blue papers, the oda 2 guys were giving white papers. I noticed that the chinese guy was drilling pple with quest . I was interviewed by the chinese guy.
Before I go on with my transcript, please note, Vo's are tayad of same old story from what I observed while on que. E.g xxxx recommended the skull to me, us news, Google.Com, Princeton review... " it perfectly fits my career goal or area of interest". I actually heard a vo say "that's what you all say, tell me summin else, it now looks like a rehersed line to them. Now they wanna hear summin diff and unique not the regular. There was a lady that was denied cos, her lines looked rehearsed, even if she answered all the questions correctly.
Well someone would say, so I was busy observing pple, yes I was and I observed carefully while on the que till it was my turn with the Chinese guy, after he just denied a family of 5( though the wife was going as a student F1 and the husband and children were going as F2. I heard the Chinese guy telling her, that she didn't write any online tests that why is she lying.(I wonder ow he found out) he just told her he doesn't belive her test results, and that it doesn't look like she has plans of returning to Nigeria. She is Nurse practioner.

Ok so after all my plenty aproko jist wey nobody send me, my transcript goes:

Vo: Gd morn
Me: Gd morn ow was nyt. Vo: Good, and urs
Me: Great(all smiles)
Vo: So why PVAMU?
Me:I chose pvamu, cos the course structure of the schools mba prog, perfectly fits my area of interest and it also aligns with my career path.
Vo: what do u mean by dat?
Me:I mean i chose the school cos d courses cuts across diff biz discipline, which is my area of interest.
Vo:oh pls tell me summn else, mba is a mgt course, and all schls mba prg cuts across diff biz discipline. ( at ds point I was nervous, i lost hope kinda, cos I felt the guy was not pleased with me at all, i ws thinkn God what else can I say make ds guy a little pleased with me.I was already saying I Don mess up)
Vo:So u said u were particular about the school because u like the course structure, so what are ds courses( for my mind I say thank God, I fit answer this one.
Me: I gave him like 6 courses.

Immediately I just continued talking, after listing the courses, that during my last visit to the Us in march, I had the opportunity of attendn a 2hr info session by the schl,(i did sha)for intending mba students and we were addressed by the asst Dean grad stud and the director college of biz.(I just needed him to hear this abeg, as him just dey strong face look me, so he cn be aware I hv travld bfr)
Vo: so what did dey say
Me: they said that the schools mba programme will bring great opportunities and equip us with......(I said plenty things here sha, at that point he was nodding his head, I said thank u Lord at least he is pleased with this answer)
Vo: so what do u do
Me: work with xx xx bank
Vo: so tell me about ur bank what do u do for them
Me: I work with the international trade finance unit, my major responsibilities are. .....(listed everything for him, im sure he was even tayad of my talk cos i do a lot were i work, it has a lot to do with international trade and business e.g imports, exports, i told him ow i talk with the comptroller of customs and ow i liaise with nafdac officials, and the FIRS team. ( nodding his head, he was kinda interested in my jist)
Vo: Oh Interesting!! So what are ur plans after mba
Me: I said after my mba, I would come back to my organisation, to work with d biz Dev team which has to do with emerging biz, were our focus is on the sme's, as we know in nig the sme's are major drivers of economic activities which is very critical to the growth of the economy, and also due to the recent circular released by cbn, were it was said that forex will be given to sme's dat intend to start import biz on a quarterly basis, there's gonna be an expansion for the sme's, so il be working on bringing innovative biz solutions to enable biz owners not only remain competitive in the market but also thrive to generate more revenue......(Na here I finish work, he was convinced at this point that this girl sabi her job function and would come back to implement her plans "story land", I just noticed he didn't cut me off, d way they cut pple off, he was feeling my jist)
Vo: so are u married
Me: yes
Vo: who is xxxxxx(looks at my ds form finally cos all this while he was looking at me)
Me: my hubby
Vo: any children yet
Me: not yet
Vo: how long u been married
Me: a year and half
Vo: tell me about ur hubby( I say which kain wahaala be dis one, cos truth is I was tayad of talking, make dis guy free me joor)
Me: he is xx yrs old and a director at xxxxx coy.
Vo: I will be approving ur visa. ....bla bla bla...what's ur coy email(then he was typing, i wonder y he asked though, maybe for verification).

So pple of NL, no test question( cos I had low scores for my Gmat and was very worried that they may not give me cos of that), no sponsor quest. Not everyone is asked same quest. Then pple with scholarship that did very well in school, they have started requesting for transcript maybe for verification.
Key point: speak intelligently and not some copied/rehearsed lines,(please know why u chose a school and why ur doing the course) They need to be convinced, that's the trick If the Chinese guy is interviewing get ready for drilling session, but he will give in the end...God bless us all, have a blessed day.
