Well yes I am, and you didn't give any contacts |
hi y'all, This topic does not really concern this category but I just felt I should share this with my fellow web developers and designers and of course this is just about the only section of this forum I visit and I respect every opinion posted here. Now here's the situation If you were to see a very visble object inside a cocked bottle of popular drink, how would you react to this? Would you sue the company, or prefer to take it personal? also, for how much? that's if it even works in Nigeria Let's just say you are in this situation, how would you start to deal with the case. |

Hi y'all, For a moment, after reading the long article, I actually thought A2J was the author of the article. In future, we should always try to give credit to the actual authors of stuffs like this, or art works. @topic, It's actually very difficult working with someone else as a team. In my situation, I'm the self-thought kinda person. I started out as a programmer. After a while, I realized that most clients tend to want to have a good visual feel of your work. This of course does not apply if you are into programming. What did I do? I started training myself on website interfaces and well, i'm doing fine so far. Based on the massive work load I've started experiencing, I'm beginning to try to work with a designer and I can tell you, it's not as easy as you saying "We (designers and developers) should work together". Though you cannot be "Jack of all trades", you've just got to know a lot of one and put yourself in a comfortable position in the other. That's usually the best way of pouring all the great ideas you have in developing a particular website. Like I said earlier, I'm trying to work with a designer but I can't help moving faster than him. If anyone has Idea of how the relationship can be strenghted, it'll be cool to let the "house" know. Come to think of it, do you even work with somebody A2J? ![]() |
@mambenanje The links were indeed helpful. Thanks for the lead. |
@kobojunkie What do you mean by URL rewriting. That should also be the apache mod_rewrite for php coders |
Yeah thanks guys, that will do. All I needed was the term (apache mod_rewrite). I'll do the rest of the work myself. Again, thanks. I hope this post helps other guys who have always wanted to know this. |
The site looks professional. Well kinda like www.cnn.com. Nice work tho. I hope you don't mind sharing the knowledge of how stories in the news section of the website are usually arranged in "folder like" url parameters i.e. http://www.nigeriaport.com/story/2008/apr/thestoryfolder/ onlike the traditional; http://www.nigeriaport.com/story/?year=2008&month=apr&story=thestoryfolder Just a brief explanation will do or if you can help me out with resources, I don't mind. Meanwhile kudos to www.nigeriaport.com You did a great job. |
Hi yall, Yeah there's this stuff I see on "well designed" websites. Nobody really uses url parameters especially those using PHP. Now what do I mean ![]() Let's take for instance this nice website www.nigeriaport.com. you can check the post out [ https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-130806.0.html ] You'll notice that the stories in the news section of the website are usually arranged in "folder like" url parameters i.e. http://www.nigeriaport.com/story/2008/apr/thestoryfolder/ onlike the traditional; http://www.nigeriaport.com/story/?year=2008&month=apr&story=thestoryfolder can someone just explain how this effect is achieved or any resource on the web where explanations can be found. Meanwhile kudos to www.nigeriaport.com It's professional. it kinda reminds me of www.cnn.com |
so where's the file? remember I'm using XAMPP. If you can, you can just direct my using a url to where I can get the resource I need. |

I'm just a website developer (well you can say a new one ). When I get web projects, I usually do the hosting on external servers. Now a client wants to run a database on his system (Connected to the internet) and be able to synchronize the database on his local server (computer system) with the one on his website. How do I accomplish that? Here's my point: I'm of fan of the popular XAMPP software. Even if I install the XAMPP on his local system, how do I get to synchronize the database system (MySQL) with that of his website or how do I get the website to use the database on his local system using PHP, enabling real-time contents of the database to reflect on the website? |
@ uspry1 Are you really a female? If yes, then I'm impressed. Most ladies usually look at IT as a man's world. I guess the world is rapidly changing. Looks like you know so much about these Networking stuffs. I'm just a website developer (well you can say a new one ). When I get web projects, I usually do the hosting on external servers. @barin24, Well who ever is going to be doing business with me on this deal also has something to gain right? It's supposed to be a WIN-WIN at the end of the day right? Well, the only way it's going to be a win for me would probably be if the financiers respond on time to my call and in return, we get to settle at the price he offers plus the monthly interest rate. Now, that's a WIN-WIN. I don't have to beg for the deal. |
uspry1, you see the laptop is supposed to help me improve on my current business, making my work faster and easier to make presentations to clients. Now if I get this deal you talk about, without the laptop, it's just as good as me saving for it. There's actually no difference. |
I've been expecting replies for this tread for over 24hrs. Does it mean people in Nigeria are not willing to sell laptops on installmental payment basis? Well I'm still waiting for anyone who's interested. If no one comes up before the end of the weekend (sunday 13th, april), then this offer is closed. However if you think you can do business with me, reply to this tread before then. |
Hi y'all, I actually need a laptop with the following specs; - Intel(R) Pentium(R) dual core processor T2130 (1.86 GHz, 1MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB) - 15.4" WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800) - 1GB DDR2 System Memory - Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 950 (224MB Shared video memory) - Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection - 120GB 5400RPM SATA HDD - SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support - 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery - Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) I'm expecting either a HP or Dell. I just need one with good batteries lasting about 4 hours with continuous use. Another condition is that I can only afford to pay for such a laptop on installmental payment basis .Initial payment should be about 40-50K and subsequent installments of 10-15K depending on the deal. Since I stay in the east, the shipping cost will be covered by me. If you are interested in such a business, please send your replies on specific configurations, price and contact information to this post. Having a corporate 'company' bank account will be an added advantage. ![]() This deal is only between me and the company, no banks involved. I'm definitely not ready for any bank wahala and interest rates. ![]() Believe me, if the deal is good, your phone will just keep ringing. ![]() |
Is there really anywhere on the web you can get good quality photos used in designing website. I mean Professional photos even if it's paid for. Please give naija friendly links. You should know what I mean. ![]() |
Sure it's a proven fact, but so what?At least you know it's a proven fact so I expect anybody visiting the site to be knowledgeable enough. My point is that everyone's perception of your experiment will be that you are a horrible speller. If anybody thinks I'm a horrible speller, why not check the rest of the website for spelling errors. If any other person supports you, then I'll start thinking of changing it. So start seeking support. |
Hi y'all, I've actually been away for some days now. When I came to check how far the review went, I saw 19 posts and I was glad, only to get in and see a long list of arguement. Well it's okay because I really learnt something from the CSS and OOP "war". @ITBeings That's actually the concept. For you to think of "integrated thinking" I guess you are on track. There's this article I read on spelling words. They actually said if the first and last characters of a word are left intact and you shuffle the characters in between them, your brain intepretes the actual word. Something like that. So I kind of know what I am doing. @my2cents I really strive to make my websites as table-less as possible. Thanks for that commendation. I've ckecked through all your points and I agree with you in all the points but I don't think I'm going to make the fonts bigger. I think I prefer the way they are. @mambe, Every code on that template was developed by me. Though I have a few peeks at a template and wanted to develop something similar. Who no like better thing ![]() As for extending the template, when I learn the OOP stuff, then we'll start talking about that. @buzzgonz I'm definitely not the owner of the site but of course, I developed it. @hanen I'll work on that. Thanks |
Hi y'all I'ld like you to help review this website: www.anthonyogheneokoloandco.com for any suggestions, observations or commendations. Hope to get something from you. |
I really don't want to waist my time studying something that wont make much impact to my skill. However, I'll just take a look at ruby and see what it's got. Thanks to all your inputs so far. |
Thanks syskay. |
How? Like you would any other programming language. No big deal.I already know PHP. So what can ruby on rails offer that well written PHP can't. What brought about this issue was that I was going through a topic a while ago and someone indirectly insulted me by saying some other guy knew just plain PHP, no ruby on rails to support. Which is almost like referring to me. So if I can see the effective use of Ruby on Rails, then I'll start looking into it. If not, I'll just go about what I do best. So, if u can't find any books, make google your friend,I'ld really like links to resources if you do have them. ensure your web host supports itThey definitely do. and start cranking some good quality code!Just tell me where to start. |
I've even tried that in about 3 cyber cafes and I get the same message. My host said something like it having to be with Port:80 or so. That the ISPs must have used wrong proxy or something like that. |

). When I get web projects, I usually do the hosting on external servers. Now a client wants to run a database on his system (Connected to the internet) and be able to synchronize the database on his local server (computer system) with the one on his website. How do I accomplish that?
