@tunderwoods It aims to increase the speed and ease with which database-driven web sites can be created,I think I like that. How are my supposed to start using it. Is it an application like the common dreamweaver or what? |
Can someone please explain why I should use Ruby on Rails? Is it an application? I've checked the website and found really no information on why I should use it. So if you use it, what's the essence of using it. More security? Less Overhead? or what? |
Hi y'all I really don't know if It's just me (local problem) or does this also happens to you? For the past 3 days now, I've not been able to log into my "dedicated" (you@yourCompanyName.com) email account. Logging into my cpanel is also not left out but what surprises me is that the website (actual web pages) work perfectly. I've contacted my hosting company and they keep telling me that their server is not down and what ever the problem is, it's a local one. On Firefox, it gives me the message "The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. TRY AGAIN" Does this also happen to you? or Has it happened to you before? If yes, how did you get around the problem. |
@smartsoft, Thanks for encouraging @Thenetwork, I really don't think you need any professional training on how to install and edit forums like nairaland. All you have to do is to install it using your web hosting panel. Most of these forums come with an administrative panel where you can customize the forum the way you want it. There's really no experience like trying out something so just install it and explore. If you don't like it, you can always uninstall it. @my2cents I was really looking forward to you contribution when I made this post and I'm glad you did. I've looked into your points and taken the following actions. 1) I really don't see what made you think the company offers just syrups because there's no where on the website it was written. To view the other products, the products page states everything. 2) I agree with your opinion on the contact page. Since all the fields in the page are required, I just placed a text telling the visitor that all fields are required. Thanks for the point. 3) The owner of the website didn't even like the pix I used so I changed the entire graphic to something that should satisfy both you and the client. 4) The motto was made bigger. I agree with you on this issue 5) as for the <span class> stuff. I hope I'll stick to your style on my next web project. In all, thanks a lot for your contribution. |
A pharmaceutical company wanted a website and I offered this ::: www.webworksnigeria.com/dm ::: what do you think of the website? The news and media section on the home page is database driven so don't mind the emptyness. I just didn't want errors on the page so I removed the PHP script for it. |
Thanks syskay, I actually thought of that but I needed clarification. Thanks again. |
I am transferring my domain to a new host but I have troubles backing up my email. |
Please I'ld like you guys to review this website, www.futocomm.com I hope to get as much holes as possible. |
You can now geet the latest information on what's happening in futo by visiting www.futocomm.com It is an information portal for anybody with interest on what's happening in futo |
@webmonk and niyyie Thanks alot. Thats what I'm looking for. ![]() @webmonk I like patronizing nigerian stuffs you know, but I still have to make sure I'm not dissapointed in the process. So how reliable is Web2SMSpro? If they can't be trusted, I beg tell me O! Their website just gives me the creeps. They need to work on it. But come to think of it, can I develop or configure that system on my own, using my own website server? ![]() |
@smartsoft All I need is your URL. I should have to go thruogh what you have to offer. I want to start integrating the web-sms service for websites I develop. So If I can get your URL, I should be able to go through what you have to offer then I can sign up to retrieve you API. Then it's business as usual. |
I checked out the site but it's not something I can integrate to a website to send sms to subscribers. That's the solution I mean |
Does any body offer web to sms solutions or do I have to meet these MTN and GLO for it? |
Dear developers, Please I'll like to know how to set up a website that can send sms automatically. I'm a php/MySql developer so I'm not new to programming. I already gathered that I'll need something like an sms server. Is that true? Besides I think there are some firms that have this sms solutions where payments MUST be made is that true or can it be done by oneself. In short, I just need a breakdown of how web-based sms applications are built. Links on where I can get info will be cool. |

Thanks for your contributions. @kazey, Thanks particularly. You don't need to tell me about Nairahost cos I already have a couple of sites hosted with you guys. Keep up the good work. You've been impressive. So far. |
Please I'ld like solutions to the above topic |
Hi y'll Can anyone give me a tip on how to create a 'What You See Is What You Get' (WYSIWYG) type of form, similar to the one used to post topics on Nairaland. I actually want to create a forum and anytime I use the normal form, The database does not reproduce the message exactly how it was typed (eg for line breaks to occur, you have to type <br> before the next line and not many web visitors understand this) Well in summary, how can I create a form like Nairaland's topic posting form? Urls where I can read them up or scripts I can study will be very helpful. Thanks |
Wow, I can't believe when I'm just starting to get excited about web design and development, someone else is thinking of quitting. Well that's life but to sincere with you, I don't see myself quitting it. Thanks for the suggestion on the navs I guess I'll have to apply that when I'm working on another website cos I don't intend working on the design of that site anymore else I just want to play with it or I'm paid for doing something on the design (or structure). I've not really attended any seminar or workshop on web desing and development. As for pricing, I don't think I have an idea about that. For the location, I suggest Lagos cos that's where you find most designers and developers in Nigeria. Since lagos is big (very big), I also suggest you hold the seminar in various areas in lagos. You can send it as a topic on nairaland to get other peoples view about organizing seminars |
my2cents, you're a web genieus and a good teacher too. You must have been in this design business for quite a while (i'm just starting commercially tho). I also found out why I have the horizontal nav. I used negative values for page margin (corrected it) I kinda applied some things you thought me on www.paulcom.net (eg, the style sheet). You can punch some holes on this site if you find one. Thanks for your tips I've taken note. |
my2Cents, I kind of agree with you about the main graphic but the slices where done to keep the visitor "entertained" while it downloads. I didn't just want to have a big graphic downloading at once. What if I make the graphic a background of the <div> tag, is that a better Idea? As for the horizontal scroll, it also appears in internet explorer. The Idea of the site is to make it appealling to both those using 800 by 600 resolution and those using 1280 and 1024. Do you have a better way of going about this? I'ld also like to know how the stretching navigation that seem to go into the ends of the screen found in www.gloworld.com are done. And also note that I have an external CSS sheet. Anyway thanks for your observation. Can anyone else contribute? |
Hi y'all I just designed this site http://www.futocomm.com what can you say about it Design and Structure wise. |
I checked the site myself. They've not even designed a website and they are talking about developing one. Well I guess they're still learning and trying to find some clients they can experiment with. Hope you don't be a victim. ![]() |
