CrimeOgun Policemen Torture Father Of Six To Death by coaco(op): 9:56am On May 03, 2016
A mason, Adeshina Adewuyi, has been tortured to death by a team of policemen who raided his community in Itoki, Ogun State.

It was learnt that the policemen, numbering about seven and attached to the Agbado division, picked up the deceased around 4pm on Saturday and ordered him to enter a bus they brought to the area.

Forty-five-year-old Adeshina was said to have declined to enter the bus, demanding to know the offence he had committed.

He reportedly fled but was chased and arrested. He was beaten up, bundled inside the bus and whisked away.

Our correpondent learnt that he was later released around 7am with injuries on his back.

The father of six was said to have been given a drug which he vomited before he died.

One of the children of the deceased, 10-year-old Jonathan Adewuyi, who spoke in Yoruba, said one of the policemen hit his father’s head with the butt of his gun.

He said, “I am an apprentice at an auto spare parts shop beside our house. On Saturday, some policemen came to collect money from my boss, but he said he did not have any. My father wanted to cross to the other side of the road, but they stopped him. He fled, but one of them chased him with a motorcycle while others followed.

“They caught him and hit his head with the butts of their guns. He shouted for help, but nobody answered. The policemen dragged him inside their bus. I can identify two of them.”

The wife of the deceased, Mrs. Turanyo Adewuyi, said the policemen gave her husband N500 to buy food and find his way back home from the station after torturing him. She demanded that the erring cops be brought to book.

She said, “My husband was a bricklayer (mason) and farmer. He was going to those working with him in a building opposite our house when the policemen arrested him. They did not find anything incriminating on him. He came back around 7pm, complaining of pains and headache. We bought paracetamol for him, but he vomited it. He died around 12am.

“The policemen that killed my husband must be punished. We have six children and the burden of their upkeep is now solely on me.”

The auto-spare parts dealer, Donatus Obina, told our correspondent that the cops had indeed come to collect money from him, adding that people were afraid to come to Adeshina’s aid.

A police source told PUNCH Metro that the Divisional Police Officer lined up members of the team and the deceased’s son identified two of the cops that tortured his father.

“The DPO had warned us to desist from acts that could dent the image of the force. He called for an internal parade and lined up the policemen on duty that day before the deceased’s son. The two cops he identified have been disarmed and detained. They will be transferred to the command headquarters in Abeokuta,” the source said.

A resident, who identified himself only as Fisayo, said policemen had turned the community into an avenue for making money.

“We are afraid of policemen in this community. They come and arrest people indiscriminately to extort money from residents. There was a time I was arrested and had to part with N9,000 before I was released. The policemen responsible for Adeshina’s death must face the law.” he added.

The Itoki Youth Chairman, Toluwalope Alatishe, said the incident demonstrated an utter disregard for human rights and called for the prosecution of the cops.

He said, “Adeshina was hard-working and easy-going man and did not deserve to be killed like a fowl. His corpse has been deposited in a mortuary.”

The Ogun State Police spokesperson, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the state Commissioner of Police , Abdulmajid Ali, had waded into the matter, noting that the policemen would face the weight of the law if found culpable.

He said, “A family alleged that some policemen from the Agbado division tortured their relative to death. The DPO called for an identification parade and the deceased’s son, who witnessed the incident, identified two policemen. However, the policemen denied the allegation.

“The CP ordered that they should be transferred to the state command, Eleweran, tomorrow (Tuesday) for discreet investigation.

“If the policemen are found culpable, they will face the music because nobody sent them to torture anybody.”

Health10 Cancer Symptoms Men Should Not Ignore by coaco(op): 10:23am On Apr 27, 2016
Cancer remains one of the deadliest diseases in the world, with 14 million new cases and 8.2 million deaths recorded in 2012, World Health Organisation statistics show.

According to cancer.org, cancer can start anywhere in the body.

It starts when cells grow out of control and crowd out normal cells. This makes it hard for the body to work the way it should.

It is important to note that cancer affects both men and women.

“One of the best ways to fight the disease is to catch it in the early stages, when it’s more treatable,” says WebMD’s Linda Rath.

“The problem is that the warning signs for many kinds of cancer can seem pretty mild.”

Below are 10 cancer symptoms men should not ignore:

1. Finding it difficult to urinate

2. Changes in testicles

3. Blood in urine, semen or stool

4. Weight loss without trying

5. Bone pain

6. Erectile dysfunction

7. Skin changes

8. Breast changes

9. Belly pain and depression

10. Mouth changes

CrimeAttackers Engaged Policemen, Soldiers In A Shoot-out – Enugu CP by coaco(op): 11:07pm On Apr 26, 2016
The Force headquarters said a special team set up by the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, has prevented many attacks on innocent Nigerians by Fulani herdsmen.

It stated that the Special Intelligence Response Team, had foiled many violent attacks by bandits, including herdsmen, adding that many suspects had also been arrested and charged to court.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Bisi Kolawole, said this in response to inquiries about the incessant bloody attacks by Fulani herdsmen across the country.

“The Special Intelligence Response Team has arrested many herdsmen and other criminals, it has also foiled several attacks before they were carried out; this means the police are ahead of the criminals, but where you have attacks, our men have been deployed and investigation has commenced and it is a matter of time before we arrest the perpetrators,” she said.

Kolawole stated that the police authorities had strategised and put in place security measures to degrade the attackers, adding that the police would continue to arrest and prosecute all criminals across the country.

Commenting on the attack in Enugu in which about 20 people were allegedly killed by herdsmen, she said that the police had commenced investigation into the incident, noting that the Enugu State Commissioner of Police had deployed his men to the crime scene.

On the allegation that the command had prior information on the attack, but failed to foil it, Kolawole said she had no such report.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Nwodibo Ekechukwu, has said that he deployed sufficient policemen in Nimbo, Uzo-Uwani local government, which was attacked on Monday.

The CP informed our correspondent over the telephone on Tuesday that the marauders engaged policemen and soldiers that were deployed in a shoot-out.

He explained that the intention of the attackers was to attack the centre of the town, noting that the security forces engaged them in a shoot-out and thwarted their plan to stage a massive attack.

Ekechukwu said, “We massively deployed policemen in Uzo-uwani when we got information that the place is under threat, anyone saying we didn’t deploy sufficiently would not have been on the ground and so cannot say what happened.

“Sufficient police officers were deployed, but the community is very vast; Nimbo is in Uzo-uwani Local Government Area and it has boundaries with Ebonyi, Anambra, Benue and Kogi States.

“Our men were supported by soldiers and they prevented the attackers from coming to the centre of the community. The attack took place at the fringe of the town and my men engaged the attackers in a shoot-out and prevented them from coming to the centre of the town which was their target.”

When asked if any of the attackers were arrested, the CP declined to comment, saying, “It’s an ongoing thing, it’s a process, so we want to be silent on that.”

Christianity EtcPopular Pastor, Lazarus Muoka, Battles Ex-member Over Property by coaco(op): 2:46am On Apr 10, 2016
A businessman, Uba Emmanuel Abraham is entangled in a legal battle with a popular Lagos-based cleric, Pastor Lazarus Muoka of the Lord’s Chosen Church Inc., over some properties at Jakande Estate, Lagos State and Independence Layout Enugu, Enugu State.

Abraham, who accused the Lagos-based popular pastor of falsifying the documents of his (Abraham’s) independence Layout property at Enugu, Enugu State, in favour of his church, also alleged threats to his life.

But Muoka, through his lawyer, Mr, Obioma Oti, said Abraham had been paid for both properties.

Abraham, who hails from Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, said he joined Muoka’s church in 2005 on his late mother’s advice after he returned from Japan.

He said his travail began when he decided to leave Muoka’s church, and he asked Muoka’s Lords Chosen Church congregation to vacate his (Abraham’s) No. 2 Lemon Street house at Phase II, Lagos.

It was against this background, according to Abraham, that Muoka allegedly connived with one Ikedi Igbokwe, whom the pastor introduced to Abraham’s family as a house boy to give his property’s documents to Muoka while he was away in Japan in 2009.

According to Abraham, on his return to the country he had demanded for his property’s documents from Muoka.

Abraham further alleged that Muoka, through Oti, denied knowledge and receipt of the documents but requested for N1m to search for them. Abraham claimed he refused to give any money but headed for the court where he swore to an affidavit for the lost documents to authenticate the ownership of his property.

Abraham also claimed that Mouka falsified and registered his (Abraham’s) Independence Layout, Enugu property with the Enugu State Ministry of Lands in favour of his church after the March 2011 tsunami, thinking he (Abraham) had died in the disaster.

“But when I came back from Japan and tried to survey and register the property, the fraud was discovered. Confident that the property belongs to me and in a bid to get those behind the fraud, I fenced the property and built a bungalow on it and nobody came out to lay claims to the land,” Abraham added.

He added that after his relocation to Lagos, the property was pulled down by some youths allegedly sent by Muoka.

Abraham said, “I invited the police, who arrested the suspects. They confessed they were sponsored by Muoka. The matter had since been taken to court.”

He noted that he had been under threats from Muoka and his agents since 2011. “Sometimes, they would call me for negotiation and then send attackers after me. My life is in danger,” he said.

Abraham’s counsel, Mr. Benjamin Nduka, accused the Lord’s Chosen Church of trying to avoid appearing in court as neither the church nor her counsel had appeared in court for the two cases.

Nduka said since the church was duly served the court summons, he would approach the court with a motion to compel it to appear in court, the only institution with the capacity to adjudicate on such matters.

The Divisional Crime Officer at the Independent Layout Police Station Enugu, Mr. Igbochi Igbo, in a text message referred our correspondent to the DPO.

When contacted, one of Muoka’s pastors in Lagos, Francis Eze, said he did not know anything about the said property in Enugu.

Speaking for Muoka, Oti, said Abraham was paid N2m for the half plot in Jakande Estate, Lagos.

He also claimed that Abraham was paid N1.7m for the plot at Enugu eight years ago when there was no form of property development around the area.

He said, “We fenced the two pieces of land in Lagos and Enugu, but to our greatest dismay, Uba (Abraham) went and demolished the fence at the Independence Layout. We reported the matter to the police and that is why the police are looking for him.”

Oti said Abraham was trying to drag the image of the church in the mud.

He said the church never mandated Abraham to sell his landed property to them, but that Abraham disposed the land when his business in Japan crumbled.

Oti said the matter was in court and that he would not like to discuss it in depth.

In addition to the list of newly hired staff released by this website two days ago, the new set of irregular hires are scheduled to be formally inducted into the CBN workforce on April 4 and 5 in Lagos. Among those on the new list are a daughter of Governor Bindo Jibrilla of Adamawa State as well as the daughter of President Buhari’s personal assistants and the daughters of the Deputy Governors of Bayelsa and Delta States respectively.

A high-ranking official at the CBN had stated that CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, decided to embark on the jamboree of hiring relatives of the political elite close to President Buhari as a strategy for keeping his job at the bank. In order to preserve his job, Mr. Emefiele apparently chose to ignore all hiring rules and procedures.

One of our sources disclosed that the bank abandoned its practice of using a professional human resources organization known as Nextzon to vet the credentials of its recent hires. According to the source, the CBN Governor unilaterally decided that the newly employed relatives of the rich and powerful would not go be scrutinized through the aptitude tests and interviews that are usually part and parcel of the recruitment process. In addition, Mr. Emefiele also waived the induction protocol required to familiarize new employees with operations at the CBN for some of the new hires. “Those we recruit newly usually go for training at the CBN Learning Centers in Lagos,” said one source, adding that merit was completely jettisoned by the CBN leadership in order to hand out plum jobs to children and relatives of rich and politically connected Nigerians.

Since the employment scandal broke this week, President Buhari has not addressed it directly or indirectly. When SaharaReporters contacted presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu three days ago, he said a response was being prepared by the Presidency.

The earlier list released by SaharaReporters included a niece of President Buhari, a son of the Comptroller General of Customs, and a daughter of the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase. The new list includes several names of politically influential people, including Falila, a daughter of the Comptroller of Nigeria Customs, Hammeed Ali.

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters learnt that the CBN yesterday brought in forensic experts to check all the computers at the human resources department. One source said the aim of the exercise was to discover the person who leaked the list.

Investigations by SaharaReporters have revealed that the employment scandal currently rocking the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is worse than previous reports indicated as our correspondent has discovered that the bank gave well-remunerated jobs to another 121 relatives or wards of people who are politically connected with President Muhammadu Buhari. Our investigations also determined that the plum jobs the CBN handed to politically privileged people did not go through due process.
