before anything, can your scanner portray the live data in graph format? If yes, then go to it and check which is dropping out, and you must do it while cranking the engine. If not, you can get (I did not say buy, you know what I mean) better scan tool like the maxidas from any shop and check the live signals coming from the crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor, don't rush and buy any part yet.

you don't have to be afraid of anything. Or you can disconnect the air tube, take a peice of cloth, wet it with kerosene or gasoline and clean the butterfly plate and the wall surrounding it, but using a 10 millimeter L Pipe can easily remove the four screws, then remove the connector and other things (use a paint or maker or something to help you remember where everything goes before disconnecting anything) then bring it out and clean it just as you will see in the video.

I am afraid, while cleaning it myself, the cleaning fluid might actually drip inward along with the dirt . . and cause more damage.

Look, usually this type of situation happens when there is a carbon build up on the throttle body, inspect and clean the throttle body and see what happens, another cause for this is vacuum leak, that is rogue unmetered air getting into the engine, bypassing the Mass Air Flow sensor, or that the MAF is dirty or OTHER CAUSES TOO NUMEROUS TO MENTION (lolz), BTW you need to scan not only for fault codes but live data.
If you don't know how to do it or go about it never worry yourself, these things were built by men like you, there is no hidden thing. Just go to YouTube and query how to Clean throttle body of a car.

Try this, when ever it stalls, check for the missing component, is loss of spark, loss of injector pulse, in other words there must be three things for an engine to run, spark, fuel and compression, one of them is missing.

I know a hummer h3 that had this same problem too, the engine over heated at one time and fixed, but later it started to misfire and run really crappy, we opened the engine cover and saw milky substance everywhere.

There was a time the engine overheated because one of the fan was bad. It stopped overheating when the bad fan was replaced. There was a time it brought out that check engine sign but later went off by itself.

Okay, have you done what GaZuz said you should do? that is check the spark plugs and everything, it's in his post above. If yes, then, try to do a compression test on each cylinder, or in a quick dirty old school style, disable the fuel pump by removing its fuse and disconnecting the plug connectors, then open the radiator, and crank the engine, if you see water GUSHING out with force from the radiator, I mean real gushing not just drizzles, and check the radiator coolant for oily substance, if yes, then the head gasket is blown. I just hope it is no.
I hope You are not overwhelmed, for me, with this bit of history of over heating, I will prefer doing a leakdown test. It's a V6 right?

To add to that, you might have unmetered air coming in from intake side via leaking injector O rings (manifold side) if I were you I would start from easy to hard, inspect the sparkplugs, if there's a build up of carbon deposits, and the tip is not worn, clean and regap to specifications, if tip is work replace sparkplug. That usually fixes misfire issues.

Yes your right but, it might also be spark related, if he can get a technician that can interprete a live data, surely he will be on the right path.
or that the fuel pump is not sending enough fuel, or as saw the other day there was no air.
In fact the list is almost endless but the bottom line is there must be fuel, spark and compression, so you must determine which is missing.
