Vision101: Did you understand the meaning of what he said at all. He said that the country was technically broke. A company could be technically insolvent but the buildings are standing and the workers are being paid but there is no tomorrow. Everything could pack up at once which will become fatal. Does companies that are technically insolvent sponsor workers in hajj or do welfare? |
Crime › Re: 1,800 Manhole Covers Have Been Stolen From Coastal Road Since January (Video) by CodeTemplar: 1:07pm On Aug 21 |
VoiceHenshaw27: there are several alternatives to this;
Heavy-duty reinforced concrete covers – probably the most practical option. They can be cast on site with steel reinforcement and made strong enough for the expected load.
Polymer/composite manhole covers – non-metallic covers made from materials such as fiberglass-reinforced plastic or SMC. They are corrosion-resistant and have little or no scrap value, making them less attractive to thieves.
Ductile iron covers with anti-theft locking mechanisms – still metal, but the cover is secured to the frame with bolts or a locking system so it cannot simply be lifted and carried away.
Concrete-filled steel/composite covers – a combination that provides strength while making the cover much heavier and less attractive for theft.
Lockable recessed covers – the cover sits inside the concrete frame and has a concealed locking arrangement.
If I'm given the opportunity I will provide more alternatives to this whole waste of resources. You tried. |

From AI about Chinese industrial subsidy form and structure. Chinese industrial subsidies do not take a single standardized "form"; rather, they operate through a decentralized and multi-layered policy toolkit managed by central, provincial, and local levels of government. According to analysis by organizations like the OECD, state support is categorized into three primary mechanics: direct government grants, tax concessions, and below-market financing.
Key Forms of Subsidies
Below-Market Financing: State-linked banks and financial institutions provide cheap credit, preferential loans, and below-market debt, which constitutes the largest share of financial advantage for Chinese firms.
Government Grants: Direct fiscal allocations, innovation funds, and specific cash subsidies are distributed by local and national authorities, heavily weighted toward targeted high-tech and green transition sectors.
Tax Concessions: Preferential corporate tax rates, R& tax deductions, and tariff exemptions reduce operational tax burdens for favored industries.Indirect and Guiding Support: Equity injections from state-owned venture funds, subsidized land use, and cheap inputs (such as electricity or raw materials) act as hidden structural supports.
Sector Targets and Evolution
Strategic Focus: Support has shifted away from general foreign direct investment (FDI) incentives toward indigenous innovation and advanced manufacturing, prominently featuring green technologies like electric vehicles, batteries, and solar photovoltaics.
Local Implementation: Wealthier coastal and trade-oriented provinces actively deploy local industrial guidance funds to co-finance domestic champions and manage overcapacity challenges. From the above, we can see the chinese subsidize production and every other thing follows. Profitability and sustenance. |

Who did they offend in that Sokoto axis?
If it isn't islamic terrorists killing their law-abiding citizens, it is one disaster or the other. It is like someone from the headquarters of islam in the sultanate is doing sacrifice. They should use the funds they spend on hajj and half a dozen islamic subsdizes to buy good boats/canoe that won't be capsizing every year. |

This is what we should all push for. Accountability. Some of the shining lights that woke me up to the reality of good governance were the performances of people like Akunyili(NAFDAC), Adeshina(Agric Min), Adeosun(Finance Min). Though they faced persecution, their performances opened eyes to the reality of perennial bad governance across all MDAs, states and 774 local governament areas. As it stands, we are yet to have a truly visionary governor in Nigeria. Not since 1999. |
