Travel / Re: USA Visit Visa Part 2 by Coefficient(m): 9:32pm On Sep 06, 2017 |
Once, I went for the US visa interview after a failed attempt two years prior. My first application was fraught with bogus claims and huge misrepresentations. I didn't even earn anything near what I claimed, wasn't married as indicated. All of these were at the instance of an agent hired by my Dad and coupled with his strong desire to see me cross the divide. I was flatly denied, much to my own delight cos I wasn't quite comfortable with the huge lies. In my second application, I decided to come clean because I wanted to clear the misrepresentation. I could be called to travel for work anytime and if I was refused based on prior application, it would be a huge dent on my integrity. Off I went to embassy with the utmost aim of clearing myself and not necessarily to secure the visa. Here's my transcript: VO: Good Morning. Pass me your passport. Where are you going to? Me: I'm going to California (Big gaffe! I was going to Ohio but was fixated on my previous application where California was the intended destination) VO: Why are you going to California? Me: I'm going to attend my cousin's wedding and also spend my annual leave, a month long. I haven't gone on leave in the last two years and I think I should reward myself for working that long. (At this point, I realized my error and seized the opportunity to correct my destination and talk extensively about my first application. I told him about all the misrepresentations, affirmed my single status, dispelled the salary claims and every other wrong information therein. The VO nodded his head and started smiling at this point) VO: Next, he asked: where do you work? Me: I work with xxxxx, a marketing communications company at the level of Deputy Manager VO: How long have you been working? Me: 4 years in my current profession VO: How long have you been working with your current company? Me: 2 years now VO: You've worked elsewhere before? Me: Yeah, started my career with xxxx but I also worked in xxxx, my father's company which was responsible for my initial application. (Another opportunity to further discuss the first denial. Told him about the company and why I left) VO: Tell me about your job (Another opportunity to talk about my enjoyable job. At this point, it had become a friendly chat. He was quite intrigued by my responses. It further strengthened my confidence and I was coasting. He even leaned forward and we maintained eye contact all through. I told him about past project, current and upcoming ones) VO: Nice. So you're going to Ohio for your cousin's wedding? Me: Yeah and to spend my leave too (We we're both chuckling here) VO: Are you married or engaged? He asked again) Me: No, I'm not married or even engaged! I'm very single. (He laughed) VO: Ok, I believe you, I believe you. I'll approve your visa now. This paper explains how to pick your visa in the next three days. Me: Thank you I walked out without looking back, emotionless. To be honest, I wasn't carried away. I wasn't even listening to the security guy who was hailing me. I just rushed out. I had a meeting to attend. I insisted on coming clean on all misrepresentations despite people telling me to maintain a lie. For me, when you tell a lie, you need a bigger lie to cover it up. Since another opportunity has presented itself to come clean, why don't I take it? The outcome will be dependent on the VO. To be honest, I wasn't really bothered if I was gonna get the visa or not. I wasn't fidgety or nervous. I just wanted to get it over with and clear my mind and for future applications. Quite honestly, I did say a simple prayer that morning on my way. I said God should not let me fail where others have succeeded. I said this because I believe in God and my colleague had secured his even though he was my subordinate and earned way below what I earned. I'm sharing this here because I owe it a duty to this forum and this section in particular. I have been here a long time and I read this section and US visa threads extensively for that application. The outcome? A success! I had never been outside Nigeria before when I secured this visa. Let me just add this, visa applications and interviews are no big deals. Not at all! Fill your form yourself; you're in control. Be articulate in answering the questions. State all facts clearly and be honest. Stick to same story at your interview. My POE is another experience all together. I made it to secondary inspection at JFK...lol 31 Likes 3 Shares |

You made a huge mistake marrying into that family. Getting back with her is only a death wish. Your wife will forever be tied to her mom's apron strings. As for your son, put your foot down. You've been taking responsibilities for the child and you're the father. Don't be swayed by emotions, insist on taking your son and if possible, take permanent custody. Your MiL never liked you and doesn't seem like she will. From all you said, she seems like someone on a mission to make your life miserable. Using your son as a tool will be her utmost aim. Resist it! 9 Likes 1 Share |

Seg05: EgyptAir will lodge you in either of 2 hotels (Novotel and one other one I can't remember the name) not far from the Airport. The food at Novotel is better that the other hotel's. Be sure to be at the lobby on time for your pick-up by the next morning else you could miss your flight to JFK. 5 Likes |

This story annoys me! You're a weakling mister! Apart from love, a woman needs a man that can stand up for her, defend her and speak for her. From your narration, you haven't done any of these and you expect her to stay in an environment where she's hated and you, the supposed defender is a weakling? You must be a joke! No one dare disrespect my girlfriend talk more my wife! 3 Likes |

TV/Movies / Re: BBNaija: Efe Family & Tboss' Family: Which Family Needs The Money More? (Photos) by Coefficient(m): 5:03pm On Apr 06, 2017 |
Came across this on FB A while back, CNN Africa reached out to my friend and asked to feature her business and how she started. They asked her to send in her story. She was so excited and I was over the moon for her. She sent in that story and was contacted shortly after. They asked her to change the story a bit to show how she suffered to start her business. She was also supposed to say that she did the business from her car for lack of a shop. She did home deliveries and it was painful having to juggle all that in Lagos. My friend was both disappointed and amused. She had worked as a manager at a big company in Nigeria before quitting to start her business. And although she started really small, with no shop in the beginning and I, her mobile customer, suffering was never a part of her journey. She told CNN she would not change her story. They replied to tell her they were not interested in her story because the business was too young. Sigh. Now, there's a need to paint Africa a certain way and if it's not that way, it is unafrican. Yesterday, Kitchen Butterfly talked about how a German TV wanted her food featured on their show but backed out when her cooking + food was not 'Nigerian' enough. Of course she would have been using a blender rather than pounding and sweating. She would have cooked in a nice, clean environment and not in a dirty backyard. A German TV knows what it is to be Nigerian better than Kitchen Butterfly, the Nigerian foodist. Look at BBNaija now and see the same thing propagated by Nigerians themselves. These too photos, do they have account balance attached to them? No. But one is a semi-white family which equals rich and the other is a black family which equals poverty stricken. There's nothing the world loves more than an African who tells about how poor and needy they are, and unfortunately, in Nigeria, be poor or act poor and you're loved. 'I had no shoes' made Jonathan a frigging President. 'I have no money in my account' gave us the current dundi of a President. Now, Efe too. We have not seen his bank account but he must be poor. TBoss has some whiteness, she must be rich. Just before I came back, I went to the city center and bumped into this white charity organization raising money to give water to African children (complete with photos of hungry black children) and I kept wondering, like I always have, are there no hungry white children in this world? The question on that photo is plain stupid and unfortunately, many Nigerians find it reasonable. If you're going to vote for Efe, vote because you like him or whatever, and not because he somehow looks or acts poor. That's bullshit. The fact that he even needed to act like a person who has never eaten food in his life to be REAL is a fucking problem. When did acting poor equal realness? 2 Likes |
Car Talk / Re: Mercedes Benz Thread by Coefficient(m): 6:36pm On Feb 13, 2017 |
Hello guys, Please my C180 99 model vibrates annoyingly. When in idle mode the slow running fluctuates; goes up abnormally and drops abruptly like the engine is going to switch off. It's worse when I drive with the AC. When I'm moving, everything is fine until I slow down perhaps for traffic. When I engage the gear in D mode, it starts. As for solutions, I've changed my plugs and cleaned out the injector, problem persists. What could be the cause and what's the way out? |

Chiezzh: I'm not an expert here but I don't think you've answered that question correctly. When asked what has changed since your last application or in your last application, it simply means if you have had life-changing situations. Simply put, what have you been up to that's different from what you told us earlier. It's either you've earned a new degree, changed jobs, got married etc. Those should be your appropriate answers. Often times, applicants are quick to reapply after first, second denial but it's advisable to give enough time between your applications. Engage in other things that will help your application such that you'll be able to answer the 'dreaded' question of what has changed since your last application. And remember to be truthful always. |
Family / Re: Is It Proper For A Woman To Ask A Man For A Come Back? by Coefficient(m): 5:41pm On Dec 05, 2016 |
Orabamxy52: I'd advice you ask him straight up what he wants! You're both adults, not teenagers. Ask him point blank what he wants. If it's ordinary friendship, please shut the door on such association. You still nurse feelings towards him and being friends alone will always leave you gasping, hoping and shutting out other men. Getting back together with an ex doesn't always turn out fine but it will do you a lot of good if you clearly define your objectives upfront. Have no expectations when you ask him and don't be beggarly about it. 1 Like |
