Drelexy: Next time you’re asked if you’ll like to use the visa for childbirth purposes, your answer should make it clear that you don’t have such intention at the moment, at least. And if there’s a need for you to consider childbirth in the United States during the period of holding a valid tourist visa, you will apply for another B1/B2 to state such intent. That’s the expected procedure. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

fratermathy: Tried not to get into this discourse to no avail. I don’t think he has belittled English as a course of study. If anything, you both are saying the same thing. A degree in English may not take you that far compared to other ‘lucrative’ disciplines. Essentially, you both have added other skills and certifications to your first degree which is English. Put simply, it paved the way for you. And I think it’s noteworthy for anybody in the discipline. Expand your knowledge beyond your first degree. I started taking professional courses in my finals. Began my PGD too. By the end of NYSC, I was well positioned for jobs! Told my colleagues back then to do same, they all laughed, told me I was wasting my time. Lots of them are primary school teachers and even job seekers today. I have the luxury of selecting jobs cos I opened myself up for it. When I hear people deride English, I just smile. I don’t have the strength to debate. Go enlighten yourself! 3 Likes 1 Share |

Philosophia: You're still in that phase of denial, the could-it-be-true phase. You're having a hard time wrapping your head around another man telling her the sweet things you used to say to her. You're trying to come to terms that another man will begin to make her laugh, blush and make her heart skip a beat. It's all part of the process. Truth is, the end has come. Cry as much as you want but that's it! Guess what? It's not the end of your life and hers too. Here's another shocker; she could be with another man and be happy. That's life. In fact, that you breakup doesn't mean you'll both regret it. Don't even waste time thinking she'll come grovelling, begging you to take her back or regret her actions. Might not happen. What you should do now is to try and pick yourself up. I know that feeling of being stuck in a pit and trying to get out. Eventually, you will as long as you keep making the effort. Dude, don't overthink. Get out there and start your hustle! 7 Likes 1 Share |

Philosophia: You’re wasting your time hanging on to straw. Painful as it may be, initiate the process of emotional detachment now. She’s moved on already and you should do same. Delete her numbers, emails, photos and everything that binds you. Unfollow and unfriend on all social media. If you’re wondering why or she asks you, tell her in plain terms you’re moving on and you need to heal. To do that, you need to rid yourself of her or anything that brings her memories. You’ll hurt badly, even for as long as a year but you’ll heal. Scientifically, the pain of rejection is akin to having your arm cut off. So consider this your purple patch. Pick yourself up slowly and continue to assure yourself that all will be well. The early days won’t be easy but time is a healer. When you heal, don’t try to reach out to her. Purge your system completely, at least until either of you is married. But don’t make the move, first. Don’t berate yourself for spending on her or not acting fast. It’s your learning curve; everyone goes through it. You may consider taking up hobby while you’re trying to make money. It will help you heal. One more thing; cry if you have to. If it will make you feel better. Rent your heart out and ease the tension within you. Don’t let anyone bully you into that masculinity bullshit. Crying is part of the process. All the best. 11 Likes |

Sebastine1606: I do agree with you on being short and simple. In fact, no interviewer wants to listen to boring life tales. The key here is knowing the right thing to say per time. Let me tell you, my whole interview I narrated here didn't last up to 7 minutes, that's me trying to put a time frame. Know what you want to say and say it well. If you know your answers quite well and prepare, you shouldn't have trouble expressing yourself in short simple sentences. For me, brief yes/no answers aren't convincing enough and I'm yet to see an approved transcript bearing such markings here. My advise as always is that people shake off the timidity. And again, if you're interesting enough, the VO will listen to you. Other applicants will wait for their turn. 2 Likes |

keyshalee14: Why didn't you include your bookshop business? That should have come through but since you didn't no point discussing it at the interview unless it is very necessary. Yes, you can travel alone. The way you have explained to us why you're going alone is the same manner albeit more articulate is what you should to during your interview. Be sure to explain your travel plans clearly. I see no reason why you can't tell the VO you had your baby before your current union; no crime in that. As for your travel history, forget that Ghana trip. Officially, you were never in Ghana. You have no way to prove that. Same with your trip to Dublin as a minor. But wait, I suppose you'd have provided these information in your DS160, no? |

AGATHIAS: You don't understand. I know you're not desperate, it doesn't seem like someone with your profile will be. Preparing your itinerary on paper is one thing; talking a VO through your plans convincingly is another. In a visa application, there's no too much information. What is required is the right information presented truthfully and convincing enough. If you're going to New York for vacation like you stated, you should enthusiastically talk about such proposed trip. Not just answer 'for vacation and sightseeing' That's even tautology in itself; vacation and sightseeing could connote the same thing in this context. How about you saying 'I intend to visit New York for my vacation this year. I have a few interesting places like xxxxx and xxxxx and xxxx to see. I also plan to take a road trip to xxxxxxx and will be doing xxxxxxx' That, I believe is a more acceptable response. For one thing, it shows you're prepared for your trip. Such answers can lead the VO to ask about your finances and job which you're also expected to talk very well about. 5 Likes |

pheebe: If I gave you link to a specific place, I won't be helping you. This thread is a book to be read very well. Try it, you'll be the better for it. The only thing close I can give/tell you is to check my last 5 posts on this forum. I shared my personal experience. Even at that, you should still read through the thread and similar ones, randomly if you can't read page after page. As for travel experience, big NO. Not having a travelling experience is no hindrance to securing a visa. Not having enough home ties is. Second to that is not being articulate during your interview. |
Travel / Re: USA Visit Visa Part 2 by Coefficient(m): 4:35pm On Sep 13, 2017 |
AGATHIAS: Your answers are quite short and not informative enough. Heck, you sounded very casual, like you didn't even have enough information about your proposed trip. You're expected to sell yourself, explain in simple details your travel intent, itinerary. When she asked if you've traveled before, you simply answered Ghana. You're even lucky she asked the purpose. Next time, answer comprehensively even though its Ghana. 'Oh yeah, I was in Ghana once, February this year for the burial of a colleague' Compare that with the terse reply you gave up there and see which is more interesting and take the conversation further. If you read this thread like you claimed, I expect your transcript to be better than this even if you are eventually denied the visa application as it is now. What you posted is not a true reflection of your claim. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Since I've shared my interview experience in the other thread, let me tell my travel and POE experience here. After a 2 day winding flight with Egypt Air, I landed at JFK amidst several foreign nationals, mostly Egyptian and eleven other Nigerians. No intent to call out Nigerians here (I'm one), but the guys I flew with? They were one lousy bunch! Making noise all over the place. The rushed the food at Novotel in Cairo as if their lives depended on it. There were two particular guys who met on board and struck friendship. They kept boring everyone with how they had traveled all over the world. One had been to the US before but the other hadn't. He talk endlessly about visiting Kenya, SA and India. Once we settled into our rooms for the layover, they took off into Cairo in the dead of the night. They asked me to join them but I declined. By the time, we were leaving the for the Airport the following morning, they were nowhere in sight. We left them behind and proceeded to retrieve our passports and board the next flight. Luckily for them, the flight was delayed and they arrived some 40 minutes later with stories of how they went clubbing and paid $300 for a bottle of Heineken at a top-end club. We boarded our flight to JFK a little later. The food and entertainment way a far cry from the crap we ate on our departure from Nigeria. Not superb but the difference was evident. At JFK, we all joined the queue. You could sense the nervousness in all the Nigerians save for the guy who had been in US before and myself. I wasn't even worried, I was just cold, tired and hungry. I noticed one of the lousy guys was being hauled to secondary the moment he presented his documents. For me, CBP: Why are you in the US? Me: I'm attending my cousin's wedding and spending my leave period here. CBP: Is this your first time in the US? Me: Yes CBP: Cone with me please Off we went to secondary. There were several people, different nationals there including my lousy guy and one other man who was separated from his wife. They took him only to secondary. They took the lousy dude inside and drilled him very well. I suspected they checked his phone too. His bags were thoroughly searched before they let him off. All the while I was reading a book I had with me and glancing around intermittently. I just remembered I didn't know my cousin's exact DOB by heart, so I took out my phone to check. That's when noticed the no phones allowed sign. Luckily, I wasn't spotted. After a while, one heavily dressed dude called my name and signaled to me. We entered a white room, more like an interrogation room. We started the visa interview all over again! This dude asked me every single detail I filled in my form and I answered correctly since I filled it myself. He further requested my social media handles and I gave them to him. I'm sure he checked them out. Same for my email. By this time, I was angry cos I was cold and was gonna miss my bus. I asked if he wanted my office email too, in annoyance and he collected it. He then did the most unusual thing; he asked me my cousin's date of birth which was not in my application! I answered almost immediately. He requested for the wedding RSVP, I pulled it out of my bag! This guy started smiling...lol. There and then, the tone of the conversation became friendlier. He asked for my finances, travel itinerary and some other stuff. He ended up stamping me in for the stay of my duration with a lot of apologies...lol. I had missed my bus by then. I sauntered out to pick up my bag and disappeared into the city. The cold that hit me outside the Airport ehn, no be small thing. I was really tired and confused and ended up in a cab where the driver had his wife in the passenger seat in front...lol I was suspicious at first so I tuned to my Lagos mode, ready for anything but they ended up being very helpful. Although, I still paid $85 for the trip to my destination. 5 Likes |
