For everything you are doing with your family, you must consider them especially your mother if not, she will develop heart break and you will be the one to suffer it more because you put her through such

She sees you as her light and life, pls try and play along

You don't know how much she cherish you as her inky son even more than her husband

You are the reason she is living happily

Don't be surprise at their protection on you

You owe her a duty to be calling her every day or alternate days

You have to for the time being be close to them and that doesn't mean they will be the one to decide or design your life

The same eyes she sees you the day you were born is the same eyes she will be seeing you

You can only have a little break once you get married and have children that will keep them busy

Mind you she will still influence your marriage along with your sisters so bear that in mind

You have to travel to see and be with her this Christmas if yih want her to be happy

Failing to do so, be prepared to blame yourself if she breaks down

If yih feel you want to pack out the you will have to present to her a woman you want to marry and lucky you if they accept her without rejection, then after marriage, you can now pack out

Pls like I said, play along with all of them for national peace at home and for you too

Give her grand children and she will have less time for you

If you must pack out, pack close to your neighborhood so that she can access you pls

Arrant nonsense. Never seen so much crap spewed elsewhere‍♂️

Next time you’re asked if you’ll like to use the visa for childbirth purposes, your answer should make it clear that you don’t have such intention at the moment, at least.

And if there’s a need for you to consider childbirth in the United States during the period of holding a valid tourist visa, you will apply for another B1/B2 to state such intent.

That’s the expected procedure.

Depending on the school you got admission into, some schools offer English and another course, mine was English and literature from the university of Benin. Be prepared to have a lot of what you thought was correct English "corrected" ,be prepared to have almost everyone you know ask you to correct every single statement they make. Be prepared to read a whole lot, especially outside your class texts, its very helpful,i found it useful, practice what you're taught always, dont be shy to stop speaking pidgin,it helps too,and quit writing in short hand. English is very interesting and you'd find it both useful and practical after graduation.

I doubt if you read English and Literary Studies well. If you truly did, you would know that graduates of English have a space in every company, firm, bureau, parastatal, etc, that you can think of. So employees need not ask you what you can offer, your resume says it all.

Instead of pursuing phantom certifications that have no bearing with what you read, try and better yourself. Package your resume and apply for jobs as a PR officer, Editor, Speech Writer, OAP, Magazine or Newspaper Journalist, ESL or EFL teacher, etc. Apply to the right firms and you will make it.

Infact, the money I make on Fiverr doing the above I listed per gig is far more than what many of the critics here make in a YEAR. Everyone has to discover themselves, create a niche and make it.

Mind you, I'm also a freelance Web Designer, Graphic Designer, and Code Debugger, Code Editor, etc. And I didn't need to leave my field to make some extra bucks from the above named skills. My exposure to English syntax make programming and coding very easy to catch up on. Most times, I edit the English content in an already written code while I also edit and debug the code itself. You should know what what means in terms of pay.

So stop putting down your discipline if you truly studied English and have a passion for it because I know 60% of English graduates read English because they felt they had no other choice. Many don't even like the course enough to make a living out of it. Unfortunately, we have many dispassionate holders of a pass, third class or a 2.2 grade degree in English. I hope you are not one.

Tried not to get into this discourse to no avail.

I don’t think he has belittled English as a course of study. If anything, you both are saying the same thing. A degree in English may not take you that far compared to other ‘lucrative’ disciplines.

Essentially, you both have added other skills and certifications to your first degree which is English. Put simply, it paved the way for you.

And I think it’s noteworthy for anybody in the discipline. Expand your knowledge beyond your first degree.

I started taking professional courses in my finals. Began my PGD too. By the end of NYSC, I was well positioned for jobs! Told my colleagues back then to do same, they all laughed, told me I was wasting my time. Lots of them are primary school teachers and even job seekers today. I have the luxury of selecting jobs cos I opened myself up for it.

When I hear people deride English, I just smile. I don’t have the strength to debate. Go enlighten yourself!

Hey guys. Thanks a lot.

I don't want to seem like a stupid person or what not. But I am in a confusion like I have never been in.

I slept on this issue. And my mind was troubled through out the night. I find it hard to really believe or accept that she would be seeing another guy right now. The reason is that she has been in several situations where guys would try to hit on her and start up something but she'd shut them down and tell me about it and we would laugh over it.

I remember that atimes I would read stories off nairaland about relationship troubles to her and we would discuss it. She would always give sound and very mature advice. And I would thank my stars for having met such a wise and conscientious girl.

I am thinking, is it possible she just wants to wake me from my seeming "slumber" to take life more seriously and make things happen faster generally? Or Does she expect me to get my act together ASAP and step to the plate to fulfill her desire?

She's the type that would think up an idea this minute and 3 mins later, she's doing it while I would take a bit more time to think the idea through. She has gotten me to take decisions faster in past by pulling up some stunt. Some of the decisions were ok while some others, I still regret till date.

I don't want to be in a haste. I want to follow her as smartly as possible so I don't loose out unnecessarily. Sometimes I fear she is smarter than me in "things of the world". She obviously has more experience, as this is her third relationship and my first.

What do you think?

You're still in that phase of denial, the could-it-be-true phase. You're having a hard time wrapping your head around another man telling her the sweet things you used to say to her. You're trying to come to terms that another man will begin to make her laugh, blush and make her heart skip a beat. It's all part of the process.

Truth is, the end has come. Cry as much as you want but that's it! Guess what? It's not the end of your life and hers too. Here's another shocker; she could be with another man and be happy. That's life. In fact, that you breakup doesn't mean you'll both regret it. Don't even waste time thinking she'll come grovelling, begging you to take her back or regret her actions. Might not happen.

What you should do now is to try and pick yourself up. I know that feeling of being stuck in a pit and trying to get out. Eventually, you will as long as you keep making the effort.

Dude, don't overthink. Get out there and start your hustle!

Wow! Thanks for all the love and advice.

Thank you lalasticlala.

I am glad I brought this here. Thank you too to my good friend who asked me to bring it here. You don't want me to name you, so I won't.

I have learnt so much because I decided to share tonight. I feel much better. Before logging in now, I just called her to say goodnight in my usual way.

I asked how she was and she said fine and returned the question. I said I was "just there". She asked why and I told her that her decision got me into a bad place. She then asked "My decision is a good one now, not so?". I told her that I am not sure it is a good decision. Her tone changed and she told me that it was not my place to be sure about her decision. She said it was her decision to make and she was sure about it. I got a bit angry, but I calmed myself and told her as I usually do that I love her. She said a simple ok and goodnight.

If not for the advice I have gotten here, I would have gone on to ask her why she is acting the way she is. But I did not, I just goodnight and hung up.

It is clear to me now what you guys have been saying. I know her to be quite stubborn but this time around, something more is giving her impetus.

I will study all your advice and create a good path to exit as gracefully as I can. Thank you all. It is well.

You’re wasting your time hanging on to straw. Painful as it may be, initiate the process of emotional detachment now.

She’s moved on already and you should do same. Delete her numbers, emails, photos and everything that binds you. Unfollow and unfriend on all social media.

If you’re wondering why or she asks you, tell her in plain terms you’re moving on and you need to heal. To do that, you need to rid yourself of her or anything that brings her memories.

You’ll hurt badly, even for as long as a year but you’ll heal. Scientifically, the pain of rejection is akin to having your arm cut off. So consider this your purple patch.

Pick yourself up slowly and continue to assure yourself that all will be well. The early days won’t be easy but time is a healer.

When you heal, don’t try to reach out to her. Purge your system completely, at least until either of you is married. But don’t make the move, first.

Don’t berate yourself for spending on her or not acting fast. It’s your learning curve; everyone goes through it.

You may consider taking up hobby while you’re trying to make money. It will help you heal.

One more thing; cry if you have to. If it will make you feel better. Rent your heart out and ease the tension within you. Don’t let anyone bully you into that masculinity bullshit. Crying is part of the process.

All the best.

Shay to the Best of your knowledge, that's no perfect answer in a visa interview, you can only unless your interviewer, with grace

I do agree with you on being short and simple. In fact, no interviewer wants to listen to boring life tales. The key here is knowing the right thing to say per time. Let me tell you, my whole interview I narrated here didn't last up to 7 minutes, that's me trying to put a time frame. Know what you want to say and say it well.

If you know your answers quite well and prepare, you shouldn't have trouble expressing yourself in short simple sentences. For me, brief yes/no answers aren't convincing enough and I'm yet to see an approved transcript bearing such markings here.

My advise as always is that people shake off the timidity. And again, if you're interesting enough, the VO will listen to you. Other applicants will wait for their turn.

Good evening everyone. Pls I need answers. My interview is next week 19th of this September. My case is , I'm 27years old girl. I'm engaged but I also have a 3years old son which i had before I met my fiancee. I'm a graduate lecturer at one of the pravite university. My salary is 185k and I also have a bookshop business but I didn't include my business in my ds160 form. i only used a graduate lecturer as my occupation. I bought a b1/b2 visa . My pourpose of traveling is to go for my wedding shopping and also use the opportunity to also do a little site seeing like universal studio ,since I'm shopping at Lilys bridal in orlando Florida. I made hotel reservation already which i included in my ds160 form. the issues is that I'm travelling alone cause my hubby to be is not intressted to go cause of his work. he's a banner and I'm also not going with my baby cause my baby will be writing his exams in school during Nov when I'm going for my shopping. the only travel experience I have was when i visited my uncle at Dublin with my mom as a minor. which i can't prove cause i don't have my minor passport anymore and I want to Ghana by road early this year and which means my passport carrys no stamp. should i just say i haven't travelled before if they ask? will going with my baby give me more chances and also, should i also let them know I had the baby before I met my hubby to be? pls I need advise .

Why didn't you include your bookshop business? That should have come through but since you didn't no point discussing it at the interview unless it is very necessary.

Yes, you can travel alone. The way you have explained to us why you're going alone is the same manner albeit more articulate is what you should to during your interview. Be sure to explain your travel plans clearly.

I see no reason why you can't tell the VO you had your baby before your current union; no crime in that.

As for your travel history, forget that Ghana trip. Officially, you were never in Ghana. You have no way to prove that. Same with your trip to Dublin as a minor.

But wait, I suppose you'd have provided these information in your DS160, no?

Thanks for your response. But i know i did not sound casual only that my response is not convincing enough. I did an itinerary of my proposed trip with cost that would be incurred. As for the Ghana response, replying with what you have posted, i thought is implying that i am revealing too much of what i was not asked. All what i posted is 100% truth, i am not desperate o. i have a better job here with a lot of prospects. Who knows, the state government may decides to send me on a training in US as they have done for my superiors. I am posting it to let other people learn from this, As i have also learn from people denials and approval. I will reapply next year insha Allah. Thanks once again for your sincere opinion.

You don't understand.

I know you're not desperate, it doesn't seem like someone with your profile will be. Preparing your itinerary on paper is one thing; talking a VO through your plans convincingly is another.

In a visa application, there's no too much information. What is required is the right information presented truthfully and convincing enough. If you're going to New York for vacation like you stated, you should enthusiastically talk about such proposed trip. Not just answer 'for vacation and sightseeing' That's even tautology in itself; vacation and sightseeing could connote the same thing in this context.

How about you saying 'I intend to visit New York for my vacation this year. I have a few interesting places like xxxxx and xxxxx and xxxx to see. I also plan to take a road trip to xxxxxxx and will be doing xxxxxxx'

That, I believe is a more acceptable response. For one thing, it shows you're prepared for your trip. Such answers can lead the VO to ask about your finances and job which you're also expected to talk very well about.

If I gave you link to a specific place, I won't be helping you. This thread is a book to be read very well. Try it, you'll be the better for it.

The only thing close I can give/tell you is to check my last 5 posts on this forum. I shared my personal experience. Even at that, you should still read through the thread and similar ones, randomly if you can't read page after page.

As for travel experience, big NO. Not having a travelling experience is no hindrance to securing a visa. Not having enough home ties is. Second to that is not being articulate during your interview.

VO: For what purpose
me: Vacation and sight seeing

me: Yes
VO: (typing all the while, then stoped typing) To where
me: Ghana
VO: for what?
me: burial of a colleague
VO: When?
me: 20th of feb 2017
VO: (she handed me the blue copy) sorry blah blah

i was surprised by her verdict. the interviw ended within 2mins.
I am a senior officer working with the state govt for 7 years, married with kids.
i will want the gurus in the forum to analyze this and what might cause the denial.
Thanks

Your answers are quite short and not informative enough. Heck, you sounded very casual, like you didn't even have enough information about your proposed trip. You're expected to sell yourself, explain in simple details your travel intent, itinerary.

When she asked if you've traveled before, you simply answered Ghana. You're even lucky she asked the purpose. Next time, answer comprehensively even though its Ghana.

'Oh yeah, I was in Ghana once, February this year for the burial of a colleague'

Compare that with the terse reply you gave up there and see which is more interesting and take the conversation further.

If you read this thread like you claimed, I expect your transcript to be better than this even if you are eventually denied the visa application as it is now. What you posted is not a true reflection of your claim.

Since I've shared my interview experience in the other thread, let me tell my travel and POE experience here.

After a 2 day winding flight with Egypt Air, I landed at JFK amidst several foreign nationals, mostly Egyptian and eleven other Nigerians.

No intent to call out Nigerians here (I'm one), but the guys I flew with? They were one lousy bunch! Making noise all over the place. The rushed the food at Novotel in Cairo as if their lives depended on it.

There were two particular guys who met on board and struck friendship. They kept boring everyone with how they had traveled all over the world. One had been to the US before but the other hadn't. He talk endlessly about visiting Kenya, SA and India.

Once we settled into our rooms for the layover, they took off into Cairo in the dead of the night. They asked me to join them but I declined.

By the time, we were leaving the for the Airport the following morning, they were nowhere in sight. We left them behind and proceeded to retrieve our passports and board the next flight. Luckily for them, the flight was delayed and they arrived some 40 minutes later with stories of how they went clubbing and paid $300 for a bottle of Heineken at a top-end club. We boarded our flight to JFK a little later.

The food and entertainment way a far cry from the crap we ate on our departure from Nigeria. Not superb but the difference was evident.

At JFK, we all joined the queue. You could sense the nervousness in all the Nigerians save for the guy who had been in US before and myself. I wasn't even worried, I was just cold, tired and hungry.

I noticed one of the lousy guys was being hauled to secondary the moment he presented his documents.

For me,

CBP: Why are you in the US?
Me: I'm attending my cousin's wedding and spending my leave period here.
CBP: Is this your first time in the US?
Me: Yes
CBP: Cone with me please

Off we went to secondary. There were several people, different nationals there including my lousy guy and one other man who was separated from his wife. They took him only to secondary. They took the lousy dude inside and drilled him very well. I suspected they checked his phone too. His bags were thoroughly searched before they let him off.

All the while I was reading a book I had with me and glancing around intermittently. I just remembered I didn't know my cousin's exact DOB by heart, so I took out my phone to check. That's when noticed the no phones allowed sign. Luckily, I wasn't spotted.

After a while, one heavily dressed dude called my name and signaled to me. We entered a white room, more like an interrogation room. We started the visa interview all over again!

This dude asked me every single detail I filled in my form and I answered correctly since I filled it myself. He further requested my social media handles and I gave them to him. I'm sure he checked them out. Same for my email. By this time, I was angry cos I was cold and was gonna miss my bus. I asked if he wanted my office email too, in annoyance and he collected it.

He then did the most unusual thing; he asked me my cousin's date of birth which was not in my application! I answered almost immediately. He requested for the wedding RSVP, I pulled it out of my bag! This guy started smiling...lol.

There and then, the tone of the conversation became friendlier. He asked for my finances, travel itinerary and some other stuff. He ended up stamping me in for the stay of my duration with a lot of apologies...lol. I had missed my bus by then. I sauntered out to pick up my bag and disappeared into the city. The cold that hit me outside the Airport ehn, no be small thing. I was really tired and confused and ended up in a cab where the driver had his wife in the passenger seat in front...lol

I was suspicious at first so I tuned to my Lagos mode, ready for anything but they ended up being very helpful. Although, I still paid $85 for the trip to my destination.

wow wow Thank you for the comprehensive transcript and this is an avenue to dispel rumor that misinterpretation can not be overturned if you confess your sin also there's still chances for applicant to come clean although coming clean does not guarantee visa but it will clean your slate.
Waiting eagerly for the POE experience.

Lol... grin

It was long time coming. I've been here a long time. Just been lazy about writing this. I hope it helps someone though.

As for POE experience, I believe there's an appropriate thread for that. I'll write that later. Make I watch this Netbusters first... grin
